Beatrix was lulled back to consciousness by the soft white light streaming in from the window, and Alistair tracing lazy figure eights on her arm. She felt his strong torso pressed against her back. His warm breaths tickled her neck. She turned just enough to look at him, and couldn't help but smile. His hair was an absolute mess, and he had the softest look in his eyes.

He tucked a few stray strands of red hair behind her ear, "Good morning... my wife."

"Good morning, my husband," she said before turning, and leaning up to kiss him.

He pressed his forehead against hers, "I still can't believe we're married. You are my wife."

"And how do you think I feel? My worst nightmare has somehow become my best dream thanks to you."

"I could say the same about you."

"Then aren't we the luckiest people in the world?"

"Yes, yes we are."

He kissed her again, but he jumped slightly at the sound of someone banging on the door of their chambers. She giggled when he scowled at the door. He was still a little sleepy looking, so the annoyance on his face just made him look adorable.

The scowl turned to a look of confusion when a voice on the other side of the door said, "Your Majesties, breakfast is ready. May we come in?"

"One moment," Beatrix shouted to the door. She looked back at Alistair, "Alright, big guy, let me up, so I can put on a nightgown."

He rolled over to let her up, "Why do they need to come in? I don't feel like getting up yet, so can't we just put off breakfast? I am the king after all."

"You of all people want to put off food? Color me surprised, but they need to come in, because they're serving us breakfast in bed. It's tradition for the nobility and the royalty to be served breakfast in bed the morning after their wedding," she explained as she pulled out a nightgown, and pulled it over her head.

"Then I retract my previous complaints."

"Good."

She walked back to the bed, and slid between the covers again. He wrapped his arms around her, and shouted for the servants to come in. Sure enough, they brought a large two tiered cart filled to the brim with food. It had the juiciest looking fruit, the most perfectly baked pastries, and meat roasted to perfection. Beatrix felt more hungry just looking at the cart. She heard Alistair's stomach growl loudly next to her, and she was pretty sure he licked his lips.

"Good morning, your majesties. I hope you slept well," one of the servants greeted.

"We did, thank you," Beatrix said. She gave Alistair a peck on the cheek before pushing his arms away. He pouted, but it was wiped away by one of the servants setting up a tray over his lap.

"Is there anything you want specifically?" Another servant asked.

"A cup of tea would be nice, but other than that, I trust your judgment," Beatrix replied.

"The same for me," Alistair said, before turning back to Beatrix, "I didn't realize how hungry I was until the food came in."

"That's because of how good it looks."

"And smells."

"That is very true."

The servants began pouring their tea, and piling food onto their trays. They served them a little bit of everything from sliced apples, oranges and, to smoked sausages, eggs, and chunks of bread. Beatrix's stomach growled loudly, and a year ago she might have been embarrassed, but fighting in the Blight had made her stop caring about the little things like that. Alistair gave a very quick, but very genuine thank you before all but diving into his tray. Beatrix almost had tea come out of her nose in response. The servants placed little bells on their trays before retreating to just outside the chambers.

A few minutes passed of them eating in silence, enjoying the food and each other's company. It was the calmest moment she had experienced in a very long time. It was pure bliss, and an overwhelming feeling of joy washed over her. She blinked rapidly to fight away the tears.

She turned to Alistair with a sudden urge to express her affection, "I love you, you know? So, so much. I am so lucky to be sitting here with you."

He grabbed her hand, and pressed a kiss to the back of it, before moving it to caress the side of his face, "I love you too, and I will never leave your side, I promise."
