Note: Harry Potter was created by J. K. Rowling and is a Warner Bros. film series.
Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley were in their last year of Hogwarts. Now that they were all eighteen, they started feeling like adults. Harry and Hermione had always acted very mature for their age. As for Ron, he had struggled to act like a mature person. Some people thought he became even more childish as he got older.
Harry, Hermione and Ron had always been friends, but there was some tension between Hermione and Ron. While Hermione and Ron both got along with Harry, they occasionally struggled to get along with each other. Ron's immaturity bothered Hermione and Hermione's dedication to following the rules got on Ron's nerves. Despite that, there was a special connection between the two of them. Some of their classmates even thought that Hermione and Ron had a crush on each other.
One morning, Hermione got up early, because she wanted to pay Ron a visit before classes started. After getting on her school uniform, she started walking to Harry and Ron's room. She looked around and saw Draco Malfoy sleeping in the hallway. Draco had wanted to stay up and pull pranks on Harry and Ron, but he fell asleep before getting a chance to do anything.
Hermione walked to Harry and Ron's door and knocked on it. Ron almost never woke up early, but Hermione was hoping that Harry was up. Thankfully, he was. Harry opened the door and said, "Hi, Hermione. What's up?"
Hermione said, "I wanted to make a quick visit before school."
Harry replied, "Good timing, because I just finished getting ready for school."
Hermione asked, "What about Ron?"
Harry let Hermione inside. Hermione looked around and saw Ron sleeping on his bed, while wearing pajamas that were covered in dirt and mud. Harry sighed and said, "Ron's still asleep. I tried to use an alarm clock to wake him up, but he used his wand to make the clock stop ringing."
Hermione said, "Well, he needs to start waking up, because he doesn't have a lot of time before school."
Harry said, "I don't know how to wake him up."
Hermione stepped closer to Ron and started shaking him. Ron opened his eyes. Hermione said, "That was easy. Good morning, Ron."
Ron had a confused look on his face, while asking, "What are you doing here?"
Hermione said, "I wanted to see you before school."
Ron smiled, while saying, "I like the sound of that."
Harry stared at Ron, while saying, "You need to hurry up and get ready for school."
Ron stuck his hand in front of Harry's face, while replying, "I intend on doing that, but before I do, I want to hear what Hermione has to say."
Hermione said, "I know that you need to start getting ready, so I'll be quick. Ron, I was wondering if you would like to go get dinner with me."
Ron raised an eyebrow, while saying, "Dinner? I thought it was still morning time." He gave Harry a disapproving look, while asking, "Did you let me sleep through another day?"
Hermione said, "It's still morning. I was talking about this evening."
Ron replied, "Getting dinner with you sounds great."
Hermione smiled, while saying, "I'm happy to hear that. I know a fancy restaurant that serves the finest food."
Ron said, "Fancy? I don't like the sound of that. Fancy restaurants charge way too much money. In fact, regular restaurants charge too much money. I'll make you a deal."
Hermione asked, "What's the deal?"
Ron said, "If you pay for both of our dinners, in addition to getting me flowers and chocolate, I'll go out with you."
Hermione replied, "I was hoping that we could share the cost of dinner."
Ron said, "I don't really want to do that, because I'm the type of person that likes saving money."
Hermione folded her arms, while replying, "Well, if you want to go to dinner with me, you have to pay for half of it."
Ron sighed and responded, "Okay."
Hermione said, "I'm looking forward to tonight."
Ron replied, "Me, too."
Harry stepped closer to Hermione and Ron, while saying, "I'm happy for both of you, but Ron really needs to start getting ready for school."
Ron stood up and said, "I'll meet you guys at class."
Harry asked, "Where are you going?"
Ron answered, "There's something important that I need to take care of." Ron gave Hermione a kiss on the cheek and walked out.
Harry looked at Hermione, while saying, "I hope that you and Ron have a great time."
Hermione replied, "Thank you, Harry. I hope that you aren't jealous."
Harry said, "Jealous? Why would I be jealous?"
Hermione said, "Well, you, me and Ron have been quite a close trio. I didn't mean to make you feel excluded."
Harry replied, "I'm not jealous. I know that you and Ron have a special relationship. Honestly, I'm happy about that."
Hermione smiled, while saying, "That means a lot to me."
Harry said, "I just hope that Ron doesn't get into more trouble. He doesn't have much time to get ready, yet he's wasting more time."
Hermione looked a bit concerned, while asking, "Do you have any idea what he's up to?"
Harry answered, "I'm afraid I don't."
A short time later, Harry and Hermione went to Professor Severus Snape's classroom. Since they had gotten ready earlier than the other students, they had arrived before anyone class. Professor Snape tolerated Hermione, but he didn't hold Harry in high regards. Harry tried to be nice by waving to him, but Professor Snape refused to wave back.
Harry looked at Hermione, while asking, "Do you think that Professor Snape hates me?"
Hermione said, "I don't think he hates you. He just doesn't express his love very well, because of his grumpiness."
Professor Snape stared at Harry and Hermione, while asking, "Where's the other one?"
Harry said, "Who?"
Professor Snape replied, "The two of you are always with that troublesome Ron."
Harry said, "He's still getting ready."
Professor Snape replied, "I see. He better not show up late."
Hermione believed in Ron, so she said, "He'll show up before class starts."
Professor Snape replied, "Frankly, I doubt that."
A few minutes later, various students started arriving. Harry and Hermione were looking for Ron, but they didn't see him. They both hoped that he would show up at the correct time.
A minute before class started, Ron showed up. Harry and Hermione both looked relieved about that. Ron waved at Professor Snape and said, "Hi, Snape." Snape scowled at him.
After the bell rung, Professor Snape noticed that a couple of students were missing, so he asked, "Where are Neville and Draco?"
Hermione said, "I saw Draco sleeping in the hallway." Snape rolled his eyes.
Harry asked, "What about Neville?"
Hermione said, "I'm not sure."
Ron grabbed a wallet out of his pocket and started fiddling with it. He wasn't paying attention to Snape's class, because he was too busy counting the money in the wallet. He accidentally dropped the wallet on the ground.
Professor Snape walked up to Ron's desk and picked up the wallet. He angrily said, "I see that you're using your wallet to keep yourself from listening to my important lessons." Snape noticed that Neville's driver license was in the wallet, so he asked, "Why do you have Neville's license?"
Ron nervously said, "Um, Neville's license must have accidentally fallen into my wallet."
Professor Snape was smart enough to tell that Ron was lying, so he slammed his fist on Ron's desk and said, "Tell me the truth!"
Ron looked guilty, while saying, "I took Neville's wallet!" Harry looked shocked to hear that.
Hermione gave Ron a disapproving look, while asking, "How could you do such a thing?"
Ron said, "It was something that I had to do."
Hermione folded her arms, while asking, "What are you talking about?"
Ron explained, "You wanted me to pay for half of tonight's dinner, so I decided to break into Neville's room and take his wallet."
Professor Snape said, "So, you decided to steal from a fellow classmate?"
Ron said, "Neville and I are friends, so I thought that it wouldn't be a big deal."
Professor Snape didn't have much respect for Ron, but even he was disappointed in Ron. He asked, "Where's Neville?"
Ron answered, "He's in the janitor's closet."
Harry asked, "Why would he be in there?"
Ron explained, "When I tried to take Neville's wallet, Neville started making a big deal about it. I tried to reason with him, but he wouldn't listen. Because of that, I beat him up. After he was passed out, I tied him up and stuffed him into the janitor's closet."
Professor Snape handed Neville's wallet to Harry, while saying, "Go help Neville."
Harry replied, "Yes, sir."
Professor Snape looked very upset, but Ron was hoping that he could avoid getting in too much trouble. Ron said, "I know what I did might sound bad, but I did it for love. Hermione and I wanted to go on a date, but I needed some extra money. That's why -"
Before Ron could finish speaking, Professor Snape said, "Your behavior is pathetic. You will not be taking Ms. Granger to dinner. Instead, you are going to spend this evening cleaning up the hallway."
Ron raised his eyebrows, while asking, "Why do I have to do that?"
Professor Snape said, "Since you caused so much trouble in the janitor's closet, it seems like an appropriate punishment."
A few minutes later, Harry and Neville walked into the classroom. Harry had untied Neville, in addition to giving him his wallet back. Harry looked at Neville, while asking, "Are you going to be okay?" Neville nodded.
Professor Snape said, "Mr. Potter, did you see Mr. Malfoy?"
Harry answered, "Draco's still sleeping in the hallway." Hermione and Snape both rolled their eyes.
After class was over, Ron was eager to talk to Hermione. He wanted to try to explain his side of the story, but he feared that Hermione would be really angry at him. He saw Hermione in the hallway, while nervously saying, "I know that you're probably upset at me."
Hermione replied, "I'm furious, Ron."
Ron said, "I know that I made a few mistakes, but deep down, this is partially Neville's fault."
Hermione raised an eyebrow, while asking, "Are you blaming the person that you attacked and robbed? How desperate are you? You're lucky that Professor Snape didn't report you to the authorities."
Ron said, "If Neville had just let me use his wallet, I wouldn't have had to make a scene."
Hermione replied, "Ron, you're not talking like the boy I love. You're talking like a petty thief."
Ron proudly said, "I'm not a thief."
Hermione replied, "You normally aren't, but today was a different story."
Ron put his hand on his own heart, while saying, "I know that I acted irrational, but that's because I love you. Love makes people do irrational things."
Hermione said, "If you're trying to be romantic, you're not doing a good job."
Harry walked up to Hermione and Ron, while looking disappointed in Ron. He said, "Ron, I know that you've done some immature things, but I thought you knew better."
Ron replied, "I thought that taking some money from Neville wouldn't be such a bad thing to do."
Hermione angrily said, "Grow up, Ron."
Ron sighed and said, "This evening, I'll be busy doing Snape's dumb punishment. However, we could reschedule our date."
Hermione replied, "Snape may have already punished you, but I feel like giving you a punishment of my own."
Ron nervously asked, "What is it?"
Hermione said, "For what you did, I'm taking away my offer to take you to dinner. Our date has been cancelled."
Ron replied, "Oh, no."
Hermione looked at Harry, while saying, "Harry, how would you like to take me to dinner?"
Harry didn't want to cause more arguments between Hermione and Ron, so he nervously said, "I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say."
Hermione said, "I really need to spend some time with someone I can talk to."
Harry replied, "Okay."
Hermione said, "Thank you. We'll go a few hours after school." She gave Harry a hug and walked away.
Ron looked at Harry, while asking, "Do you have any idea what you just did?"
Harry said, "I agreed to help Hermione out."
Ron shook his head, while saying, "You have no idea what you just did."
Harry asked, "What did I do?"
Ron looked quite upset, while saying, "Hermione just asked you out on a date! You agreed to go on that date!"
Harry calmly said, "Ron, Hermione just needs a friend to talk to. Please don't make a big deal out of it."
Ron said, "You know that I love Hermione. If you tried to get in the way of my future with Hermione, you wouldn't be as good of a friend as I thought you were."
Harry replied, "Frankly, you're the one who needs to treat your friends better. How you treated Neville was inexcusable." Harry started walking away, while Ron angrily pouted in the hallway.
After school, Harry started getting ready for his evening with Hermione. He figured that he shouldn't dress to fancy, because he didn't want this evening to seem like a romantic date. Because of that, he decided to wear a gray sweater and a blue pair of jeans.
Shortly after getting ready, Harry heard a knock on his door. He opened the door and saw Hermione. To Harry's surprise, Hermione was wearing a red dress that looked very beautiful and fancy. Hermione put her hand on her hips, while smiling and asking, "How do I look?"
Harry said, "You look amazing. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to dress. If I look too plain, I can change."
Hermione replied, "You look fine. Let's go."
Harry responded, "Okay."
Meanwhile, Ron went to the janitor's closet and pulled out a broom. He started sighing and grunting, while walking around the hallway. Ron hated the idea of cleaning stuff. He refused to ever clean his and Harry's room. Cleaning the entire hallway felt like too much for him. He said, "I shouldn't be here. I should be with Hermione. I can't let Harry win Hermione's heart. I have to get to the restaurant and confront Harry."
A moment later, Ron saw Neville walking around the hallway, so Ron pointed at him and said, "Come here."
Neville sighed and asked, "What do you want?"
Ron handed the broom to Neville and said, "Go clean the hallway."
Neville replied, "You have to be kidding me. The reason you got this punishment was because of how you bullied me."
Ron responded, "I'm not a bully."
Neville said, "I'm not going to clean the hallway."
Ron started getting his fists ready, while saying, "If you know what's good for you, you'll start cleaning the hallway." Neville nodded and started cleaning.
A short time later, Harry and Hermione arrived at the restaurant. It was a very dignified, sophisticated place that was full of customers that were wearing tuxedos and dresses. Harry looked down at himself, while saying, "I feel like an outcast."
Hermione replied, "You look cute, so don't worry about it."
Harry and Hermione sat down at one of the tables. Harry felt unsure of what to say, because of everything that had happened. Because of that, he spent a few minutes in silence.
Eventually, Hermione decided that it was time to speak up. She said, "You know what? I don't want to talk Ron. He was being the worst friend, so I don't want to let him ruin our evening."
Harry replied, "I understand. I just want to say that I'm really sorry about what he did."
Hermione said, "You shouldn't be apologizing for him. He should be mature enough to make his own apologies."
Harry replied, "Yes, but he often has me apologize to others for him."
Hermione sighed and responded, "He's unbelievable."
Harry could tell that Hermione wanted to change the subject, so he said, "I was really surprised by your choice of wardrobe."
Hermione jokingly asked, "Were you expecting me to dress up as a book?"
Harry chuckled and said, "No, but I wasn't expecting you to look so fancy."
Hermione asked, "Do I look okay?"
Harry said, "You look far better than okay. You look absolutely stunning. You're so beautiful!" Harry blushed, while saying, "I can hardly believe that I said that."
Hermione asked, "Why? It was a very sweet thing to say."
Harry said, "It just felt wrong to say. I know that Ron still has a lot of strong feelings for you, so I shouldn't be commenting on how beautiful you are."
Hermione replied, "Harry, our night isn't about Ron."
Harry said, "I know, but I don't wish to upset him."
Hermione replied, "Ron's the one who's making people upset. Let's just focus on our date."
Harry said, "Um, yeah. We should focus on our dinner." He grabbed a menu and started reading it.
A few minutes later, a waiter walked by and asked, "Can I get you anything?"
Hermione said, "I'll have a butter beer and a small pizza."
Harry said, "I'll also have a butter beer, in addition to some chicken strips."
The waiter looked at how Harry was dressed, while saying, "With all due respect, you're dressed as generically as humanly possible. Your outfit might be fine for a regular restaurant, but this is a fancy place that expects customers to wear their finest clothes."
Hermione replied, "Please stop giving my boyfriend a hard time. This is our first date."
The waiter said, "Well, on your second date, he better be wearing nicer clothes. Otherwise, you should reconsider who you spend your time with."
Harry blushed with embarrassment, while feeling awfully confused. Hermione was acting like she and Harry were on a date. He tried to not sound too nervous, while asking, "Is this a date?"
Hermione answered, "Of course it is."
Harry said, "But I thought that you and Ron were in a relationship."
Hermione explained, "Today's events made me realize that I can't date him. If he grows up, our friendship might work out. However, at this time, Ron is the last student in Hogwarts that I want to be with."
Harry replied, "I see."
Hermione started fiddling with a piece of her own hair, while saying, "I started realizing that I've been taking you for granted, Harry. You've always been a great friend to me, but I was busy trying to get Ron's attention. I failed to realize that the perfect guy was always there."
Harry started feeling uncomfortable, while saying, "I don't wish to be rude, but can you excuse me for a few minutes? I need to use the washroom."
Hermione replied, "No problem."
A moment later, Ron walked into the restaurant's kitchen. The cooks were very surprised to see Ron in the kitchen. They were about to ask him to leave, but Ron kept snooping around. Ron pointed at one of the cooks, while asking, "Did Harry Potter already his meal?"
The cook said, "Yes he did."
Ron asked, "What did he order?"
The cook pointed at a plate of chicken, while saying, "This stuff."
Ron had a mischievous grin on his face, while saying, "I see." He picked up the plate.
The cook asked, "What do you think you're doing?"
Ron said, "I'm going to rinse this chicken in toilet water. Afterwards, I'll make Harry eat every disgusting bite. He'll get such a big stomachache that he'll have to cancel the rest of his date."
The cook set the plate down and stared at Ron, while saying, "You're in trouble."
Meanwhile, Harry was washing his face in the washroom. He looked at himself in the mirror, while asking, "What am I doing? Am I really on a date with Hermione? Hermione's the girl that I've always been closest to, but I didn't imagine her being my first date. I imagined her and Ron being together. Hermione and Ron both mean so much to me, so I don't know if I can go through with this date."
A few minutes later, Hermione looked around and saw Ron being escorted by the cooks. Hermione had a confused look on her face, while asking, "What's going on?"
One of the cooks said, "I caught this guy trying to ruin Harry's dinner. He claimed that he wanted to give Harry a stomachache."
Hermione said, "Ron, what's wrong with you?"
Ron said, "Harry's the wrong guy for you! I'm supposed to be your man!"
The cook looked at Hermione, while asking, "Is this man bothering you?"
Hermione answered, "He is."
The cook said, "We'll get him out of here." The cooks started escorting Ron out of the restaurant.
A few minutes later, Harry walked by to Hermione's table. He sat down, while saying, "While I was in the washroom, I heard some strange noises. I might have heard Ron."
Hermione said, "Ron came to the restaurant."
Harry looked surprised, while saying, "He was supposed to be cleaning the hallway."
Hermione replied, "He came by to try to ruin your meal. He wanted to make you sick, so that you would leave our date."
Harry responded, "Wow, I never realized how desperate Ron was."
Hermione said, "In the back of my head, I think I knew, but I cared about him too much to acknowledge it."
Harry said, "To be honest, I felt bad about being here. I felt like I was being a mediocre friend to Ron."
Hermione replied, "You're not a bad friend. You're the best friend that I've ever had. In addition to that, you're shaping up to be a quite good boyfriend."
Harry looked awfully shy, while saying, "Boyfriend?"
Hermione held up her bottle of butter beer, while saying, "This could be the start of a beautiful new relationship."
Harry replied, "I like the sound of that."
After eating dinner and paying for the meal, Harry and Hermione walked outside of the restaurant. They held hands, while smiling at each other. Hermione said, "Thank you for splitting the cost of the dinner with me."
Harry replied, "No problem."
Hermione asked, "What did you think of our first date?"
Harry said, "Aside from Ron's interruptions, I had a great time."
Hermione replied, "Me, too."
Harry said, "So, I guess our first date is over."
Hermione replied, "Not quite. You see, there's one last thing that you need to do for me."
Harry asked, "What is it?"
Hermione smiled, while saying, "I require one kiss."
Harry smiled back, while replying, "If that's what you require, it would be my pleasure." Harry leaned closer to Hermione and gave her a tender kiss on the lips. Although Harry and Hermione's day started off with stress and anger, their first date became a good memory that they treasured in their hearts.
