Jaune had done it. He had actually done it. All this training and torture from his crazy sisters and he had somehow survived. He's finally free from the madness that is the Arc family! How he survived Jaune would never know.
It's not like he doesn't love his family, he'd do anything and everything for them but Oum knows who taught his mother Jeanne Arc that throwing a 14 year old with no aura into a forest with Grimm constituted as light training!
And don't even get him started on his sister's, he still has the shakes when thinking about what he went through with their instruction. And those dresses...oh Brothers, all those dresses.
At least his father James Arc was the only sane member of the Arc's, providing a sense of calm and stability in a household of pure chaos. Although Jaune could never figure out why his father would hiss everytime Jaune would bring any friends home to hang out and play games.
However, Jaune had seen much worse from the other members of his family so he didn't think too much on it, just accepting it as one of the many weird quirks that comes with being an Arc.
But alas!
No more having to deal with that madness! All it took was a flood of tears, a promise to keep in touch everyday and hugs from all his family that nearly sent Jaune to his late grandfather and he was on the bullhead to Beacon Academy.
Jaune could hear a pair of girls nearby admiring the view of Beacon from the bullhead and something about knees..? ...What?
He wished he could look up but if he so much as breathed wrong right now then the famed Arc waffles he had devoured that morning would probably be making a one way express trip from his stomach to some unfortunate souls shoes.
'Ughh, I think Violet mixed up my motion sickness pills again, I promise when I see that girl I'm going to eat all her snacks in front of her', Jaune promised, grinning to himself knowing how devestated his little sister would be if he did so.
He groaned when his stomach did another front flip as the bullhead shook once more.
Jaune decided to sit and bunker down and pray the bullhead didn't shake again. The gods either must have not listened or just didn't care because not even a few moments later violent vibrations occurred once more throughout the bullhead. Jaune could only whimper clutching his lower torso.
'This accursed Arc motion sickness!'
Jaune had somehow managed to keep his breakfast in his stomach after that tortuous journey in the bullhead, nearly failing when some hyperactive redhead in a pink skirt had bumped into him on the way out and muttered something about pretty girls, pancakes and a Renny?
Jaune reckoned he must have not been listening properly as he was busy trying not to expel the contents of his stomach.
Jaune shook his head and took in a deep breath of air.
Now he felt better and calm. He was on solid ground now. It was time for him to become a huntsman. This is what he trained so hard for the past three years for.
No more having to deal with random explosions and fights that could destroy acres of lands like at home, he was in a place where elite huntsmen gathered. They would expect nothing but the highest form of professionalism.
"BOOOM!!" an explosion ripped through the courtyard.
Well never mind then.
Jaune could do nothing but wipe a small tear from his cheek saying goodbye to his peace of mind. He sighed and decided he might as well check out what happened. Hopefully, not losing brain cells along the way.
Ruby was having the worst day ever. First her sister Yang abandons her leaving her to make friends for herself.
Yang must have forgotten what Ruby's two specialties were; Weapons and Social Akwardness.
Then as she was already down in the dumps she bumps into some crabby princess in white who wouldn't stop complaining and belittling her. Ruby did nothing but apologise but the princess kept shaking some half-opened vial of dust in front of her face.
Next thing you know, she sneezes blowing up the courtyard. Thank the Brothers she had aura as she came out unscathed from the blast. However, the glare and words the girl in white threw at her didn't leave her mentally unscathed.
Thankfully a girl with long black hair and a large black bow on top of her head stepped in and was somewhat able to diffuse the situation. The girl Weiss as she recalled gave her a nasty glare and told Ruby never to speak to her again leaving afterwards.
Now Ruby lay on the floor down in the dumps
'Great, 5 minutes into Beacon and I've already made a fool of myself and have an enemy. Welcome to Beacon I guess' she sighed feeling sorry for herself.
Maybe accepting Ozpin's offer was the wrong choice but before she could go deeper into that realm of thought, a relatively short figure approached her.
A red cap with a lunar crescent emblazoned in the front sat on top of long blonde hair up in a ponytail, a red sleeveless coat covered in leather buckles that was unzipped that went down to their mid thigh, a white shirt that stopped just short at their navel revealing a tan and toned stomach, white shorts that stopped mid thigh with red armoured boots with intricate gold edges that covered up to their knee and a brown leather buckle satch on above their shorts which carried a sword.
"Hello there are you alright?" a kind feminine voice said. The figure outstretched a hand for Ruby to grab.
Ruby nodded rapidly and grabbed their hand being pulled up. She then took a second glance at her saviour noting they were a few inches taller than her maybe 5'6-5'7 "Aren't you the one who nearly threw up on the bullhead?"
The blonde figure snorted "Nice to meet you too"
Gah! Ruby cursed her awkwardness why would she say that to someone that just helped her. "Oh my god I'm so sorry! My mouth doesn't know when to shut up, I'm so bad at this talking thing I can only get along with my sister and weapo-"
The blonde placed a finger to Ruby's lips stopping her rambling and giggling "Relax I get it I have a little sister who's bad at talking too, you're fine don't worry about it"
Ruby blushed and took in a deep breath calming down. Why is communication so much harder than killing a pack of beowolves? Seeing as the blonde didn't ditch her yet Ruby decided to introduce herself, maybe even get a new friend!
" So what's your name? My name's Ruby Rose!"
"Ruby huh that's a nice name, my name is Jaune, short and sweet" the newly introduced Jaune then stuck a hand out for Ruby to shake.
Ruby shook Jaune's hand at Mach speeds causing Jaune to giggle once more. "You seem excited to meet me"
Ruby gave Jaune a big smile "Of course I am, You're the first friend I've made here!" She then blanched, uhh how did you make friends again?
"Unlessyoudontwanttobemyfriendofcourse, it's probably too soon isn't it?" Ruby rambled her tone dropping more in excitement.
Jaune waved away her concerns "Of course I would like to be your friend Ruby! After all my mom did say strangers are friends you haven't met yet"
Ruby thought that was a tad bit irresponsible but held her opinion and smiled at Jaune once more, this could be the start of a beautiful relationship.
"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a lot more common than you think"
Ruby snorted "Yeah whatever you say Vomit Girl"
Jaune pouted " I didn't even throw up Miss Crater Face! And I'm not a gi -"
"Don't call me that you meanie! It was an accident…" , Ruby squeaked.
"Well most accidents don't end up with a sneeze causing an explosion do they?", Jaune smirked
Ruby whined "I never should've told you that"
They both glared at each other then laughed.
Soon there was a lull in the conversation as they both walked to the stage where the Headmaster wanted the initiates to be.
This lull was awkward as heck to Ruby so she decided to end it with the only way she knew how. Ruby pressed the button on her beauty Crescent Rose to unfold it into its scythe form.
"Woah, what was that for Ruby!?" Jaune yelped, barely dodging the giant blade of Crescent Rose, his cap being knocked off his head.
"Oops sorry about that Jaune, I just wanted to ask-" As Ruby turned around to face Jaune her heart stopped as she noticed something.
'Oh my god she's so pretty!!
Ruby wasn't able to make out most of Jaune's features with the cap on but without it she finally noticed the beauty of her new friend.
Long silky blonde hair, sharp eyes, long eyelashes, sapphire blue eyes, a regal-like nose, soft and full pink lips framed with a heart shaped face and high cheekbones.
Jaune looked like she belonged to royalty!
A hand waving close to Ruby's face cut off her thoughts. Jaune looked at Ruby with concern her mouth forming a slight frown."You alright Ruby?"
"O-Of course I am Jaune, sorry about that I got a bit distracted hehe" Ruby replied nervously scratching her cheek.
Jaune smiled at her, dimples on display. "I'd hope not Ruby, you nearly took my head off there"
'So pretty' , Ruby thought once again, she then shook her head. No more getting distracted it's time to be a good friend!
"Yeah sorry about that Jaune I just wanted to show you my baby Crescent Rose" Ruby said in a sheepish tone.
"I could tell, that's an impressive scythe you're carrying, you must be pretty strong to throw that around" Jaune complimented her.
"Aw shucks, I'm not that strong, it's also a high impact caliber sniper rifle"
"A what?" a blonde brow raised.
"It's also a gun".
Jaune blinked. "Oh cool, I'm not that good with guns if you couldn't tell "Jaune said thumbing his sword. Ruby giggled, "It can't be that bad"
"Oh believe me it's worse, every time I fire a gun it somehow malfunctions, my family thinks guns are Jaune-phobic"
Ruby would have laughed but paused at the seriousness of Jaune's tone.
"Well umm what does your sword do then Jaune?"
Jaune raised a delicate eyebrow at her "I dunno it does regular sword things you know, stab, slash pierce and stuff", Ruby rolled her eyes.
"I mean does it transform into anything or use dust mechanisms" she clarified.
"Haha no, I don't really get that stuff this blade comes from a long line of heroes in my family, it's called Crocea Mors, the Yellow Death" he then unsheathed the weapon from its scabbard letting the light reflect from its blade. "It's nothing too impressive"
Ruby shook her head rapidly in disagreement, " Don't say that! I think it looks amazing, I mean a sword that's lasted that long must be pretty good right?"
Jaune smiled at Ruby once more "Right you are, thanks Ruby"
Ruby's cheeks brightened at her friends smile 'Why is she so pretty!?'
"Well uhh", Ruby stuttered "Do you know where we're going?"
They both stopped walking. Jaune blinked "I was following you though?"
Ruby squawked in indignation "Aren't you supposed to be the older one here? How do you not know!?"
"We're both first years here!" Jaune retorted
"Oh my god we're going to be late!" Ruby panicked not wanting to stand out more than she already has.
"Welp no choice then", Ruby said grabbing Jaune's hand "Let's run"
"Wait Ruby, where did my hat go?"
Ruby ignored the question as she activated her semblance. A loud squeal could be heard from Jaune as she took off.
"MY HAAAAAAT!!"
