Link: ...Uh... Frederick... I apologize if I have the wrong idea, but... are you following me?
Frederick: Pay me no mind, Link. Simply continue on with your daily errands as normal.
Link: So... you are following me?
Frederick: ...If you must know, then yes, you are correct. However, you being aware of my presence does complicate my objective, somewhat.
Link: Why does your... 'objective'... involve me?
Frederick: I am closely monitoring your behavior for any suspicious activity or causes for concern. As such, it is paramount that you are behaving naturally and without knowledge of my company.
Link: ...Am I really so untrustworthy?
Frederick: As I've asked of you before, do not these suspicions as an attack on your character. I am a protector of the royal family. My station demands that I am extremely thorough in these matters, especially when concerning the well-being of the Shepherds.
Link: Well... I guess it's okay if you follow me... I just feel like you must have more important things to do... like... that strange 'safety precaution' you obsess about... where you clear the road of... pebbles and stuff... Even that would be more productive than watching me all day...
Frederick: Do not misunderstand, I will not let this task of mine prevent me from completing any of my usual duties. In fact, I had the path ahead cleared of any stones and branches a mere hour after setting up camp. Making time to observe your behavior is no trouble at all.
Link: Uh... All right, that's... good? ...So, if you've been watching me... what have you seen? Have I done anything that's...'a cause for concern'?
Frederick: After you woke this morning, you traveled into the forest and began cutting down patches of tall grass with a great deal of fervor. For what reason? I've no idea.
Link: Ah... I was just a little restless... I thought I might try and find some spare change but... it seems I can't find Rupees here-
Frederick: Then, you walked up to an enormous boulder. In a baffling display of raw power, you lifted it overhead and tossed it to the side. At first, I assumed this to be a form of strength training, however, your reaction afterwards indicated that you were searching for something hidden underneath it. What that would be? I've no clue.
Link: Well... sometimes I find tunnels underneath rocks like those. They can lead to underground caves that have treasure hidden-
Frederick: Even more confusing, you later came across a wild chicken and became extremely irate. You could have easily slain it and provided a few of your allies with a small meal, but you, instead, fled the scene in a desperate manner. Why were you so fearful of a single chicken? I cannot imagine.
Link: Are... Are you kidding? If I tried to kill that beast, I'm the one who'd end up-
Frederick: After witnessing this chain of events, I regret to inform you that I now find you even more suspicious than I had the day prior.
Link: Ugh... but I wasn't...
Frederick: Do not despair, though. You are still a Shepherd, for the time being, and you will have the foreseeable future to prove your innocence. For now, I must check in with Chrom, but the observation period will resume after lunch. I will see you then, Link. Good day.

Link: Frederick? I have a proposal for you.
Frederick: Yes?
Link: The reason you don't trust me... It's... because of how you found me, right?
Frederick: Precisely. You were discovered unconscious in the middle of an empty field. You wear unusual clothing and possessed no knowledge of this land or its people. You then claimed to be a 'hero' sent to this realm by Naga, the divine dragon. All of this transpired only a few hours after finding Robin, who shared many of the same characteristics. Should you prove yourself to us, I will not apologize for doubting you. Chrom possesses a trusting heart, so it falls to me to be the voice of reason in these times.
Link: I understand. I just... wish we could get past this. This war is taking a sizeable toll on us all... Having to worry about whether I might betray you... That's a lot of unnecessary stress...
Frederick: It is merely the reality of the situation. I will not dwell on how things 'should' or 'should not' be. I will only do what needs to be done in this present moment. Nothing more and nothing less.
Link: Still... that doesn't mean we can't make this easier on ourselves. Instead of watching over me day after day, why don't you... try to learn more about me?
Frederick: You wish for me to perform a background check on you?
Link: Yeah... I could tell you about my adventure in Hyrule...
Frederick: Pointless. I would have no way of verifying any claims you may make. Naga transporting you here from another world... Your supposed deeds that would grant you the title of 'hero'... How do you intend on proving your assertions true?
Link: ...
Frederick: ...As expected, you have no proof-
Link: W-Wait! Maybe... this could convince you?
Frederick: ...You bear a mark on the back of your hand?
Link: This symbol... is called the Triforce. It's composed of three pieces... each represented by one of Hyrule's goddesses. I'm told that I carry the essence of Farore, the goddess of courage. I'm told that I was... destined to...
Frederick: ...
Link: In Hyrule, this alone is evidence that I'm no ordinary man.
Frederick: In Ylisse, however, such a mark is evidence of nothing.
Link: B-But... what about Chrom? He has the Brand of the Exalt on his shoulder... That's proof that he belongs to the royal bloodline...
Frederick: The difference, here, is that I can verify the significance of Chrom's brand. Yes, you also possess a mark of some kind. Yet, how am I to accurately assess its authenticity? ...I will repeat this once more; In Ylisse, such a mark has no significance.
Link: ...*sigh*
Frederick: I'm afraid the only way to persuade me, Link, is to prove yourself through action. Thus far, you have done an ample job by continuing to fight for the Shepherds. But until there no doubt left within me, I will be keeping a close eye on you.
Link: ...Fair enough, Frederick.

Frederick: Link? Ah, there you are. I wish to have a word with you.
Link: Oh, hey... I'm, uh... out of commission at the moment... but go ahead.
Frederick: You speak of that horrid gash on your arm, I presume? As it turns out, I am here to discuss exactly that. I demand you explain your thought process to me. Why did you throw yourself into harm's way?
Link: ...Is that even a question worth asking? That Risen was aiming for Lissa, Frederick. She had no way of defending herself, so I... took the hit for her... I know that you would do the same, so I'm not sure why you have a problem with what I did... Would you have preferred I not save her?
Frederick: Tch! Do not even suggest such a thing! I am exceedingly grateful to you for saving the princess from grave injury. My confusion stems from why you would risk your life for hers. I... was not by her side when the attacker closed in, though, I did manage to witness the potential horror unfold before my eyes... Then, I saw you move towards them at an astounding speed without even a hint of hesitance or self-doubt to speak of.
Link: ...If I had paused, she could have been killed.
Frederick: I realize this, of course. I just cannot understand why you would act so recklessly on the behalf of our people. You do not belong here, yet you nearly threw your own life away for our cause.
Link: Hah... I guess I sound a bit mad when you put it that way... but if saving my allies makes me a madman then I accept that.
Frederick: ...And still, you show no desire to re-evaluate your rash behavior. *sigh* I will be candid, Link. You are a most perplexing man.
Link: ...I don't think I'm all that strange... Remember what I told you about the mark on the back of my hand? In Hyrule, I was chosen by the Goddess of Courage... This self-sacrificing streak is probably just a part of who I am.
Frederick: UNACCEPTABLE!
Link: ...W-What is!?
Frederick: Your display of sheer bravery has moved me, Link. I am overjoyed to announce that all suspicion of you has been erased from my mind!
Link: Are... Are those tears?... And that's great and all, but... what's so unacceptable about-
Frederick: Now that I finally see you as an invaluable ally and someone deserving of my trust, I forbid you from endangering yourself in such a manner from this moment onward. I can scarcely fathom just how monumental a loss the Shepherds would suffer if you ever fell in battle, Link... the thought sends shivers down my spine...
Link: ...You could sound a little more concerned for me, you know...
Frederick: Hmm? I didn't quite catch that.
Link: I, uh... was just saying that I'm glad you finally believe in me... even if it did take a near-death experience to get through to you...
Frederick: I share the same feelings, my friend. Although we must ask, why stop here? The bonds of trust can always be bolstered, and there is no better method for such than attending 'Frederick's Fanatical Fitness-Hour'!
Link: ...What? Are you... talking about that insane workout you force the other soldiers into?
Frederick: No need to be so dramatic. My training regimen is only standard fare. Now join me, Link. We have a few hours before the next one begins. This means we can get a substantial warm-up in beforehand, of course!
Link: Ehh... Maybe gaining his trust wasn't a good idea...
A/N:
As far I know, Link doesn't have the Triforce marked on the back of his hand in OoT (Edit: pretty sure he does, actually), but I'm willing to add some qualities from other Zelda games if it can give me some fun material to work with. I intend on keeping Link's knowledge of his world/the people to only OoT, but I wouldn't be surprised if I pull certain items and weapons from other games at some point.
