Sumia: I'm back, sweetie!

Link: ...

Sumia: O-Oh my gosh, I didn't- I wasn't calling you 'sweetie'! I was just talking to my pegasus, that's all!

Link: I-It's fine... No big deal...

Sumia: I didn't expect anyone else to be here. Do you... need help with the pegasi? They tend to be distrusting of men, so you might need to be patient with them.

Link: ...No, I'm not here for anything important. I just... wanted to spend some time with them...

Sumia: *gasp* You like pegasi, too?!

Link: This is actually my first time seeing one up close... They don't exist in my world, as far as I know.

Sumia: R-Really!? That's terrible...

Link: We do have horses in Hyrule, at least...

Sumia: Oh, I've seen you ride on horseback in battle a few times. You're really talented at it!

Link: ...Fighting on a mount has its perks, that's for sure... but it also... brings up some bittersweet memories, I guess...

Sumia: What do you mean?

Link: It's nothing against the horses we have here... They're trained well... but not being able to ride the horse I grew up with... It doesn't feel right... Makes me miss her...

Sumia: Oh... You had to leave your friend behind, then...

Link: ...Yeah... Her name's Epona. When I was young, I walked into a ranch without knowing where I was going. I met a girl there, Malon... and she showed me her favorite horse... The untamable mare, Epona.

Sumia: Oh, gosh... I've had plenty of experience calming those types down. It can be a real challenge.

Link: At first... Epona wouldn't even go near me... but with Malon's help, I was eventually able to earn her trust... and she became one of my greatest allies during my journey.

Sumia: That's such a beautiful story! 'The noble hero calms the heart of his willful steed and, together, they save the world!' *sigh* It's exactly like something out of a fairy-tale... Ah! I didn't mean to start daydreaming! A-And I'm really sorry that you had to be separated from her. If I were in your shoes, I'd be thinking about my pegasus all the time...

Link: It's okay... Seeing Epona again... That's just another motivation that will help get me through this war and back home.

Sumia: You will make it home! If there's one thing I've learned from reading novels, it's that the hero always wins!

Link: ...Heh... I admire your optimism.

Sumia: ...Wow! You're really good with Palla! I rarely see her so relaxed like this, especially when she's around someone new.

Link: ...Palla?

Sumia: Yep! She's the big sweetheart you're giving some love to right now, and she's also my partner. I named her after one of the 'Whitewing' pegasus knights of legend! ...I-Is that silly? I thought it might be... an inspiring name... but that's kind of embarrassing, isn't it? *groan* I should have known!

Link: N-No... I don't think there's anything weird about it...

Sumia: Oh, thank the gods! If I messed up something as simple as naming my pegasus, I'd know for sure that I'm a lost cause...

Link: Well... I'm gonna get going. You're probably here to take care of the animals, yeah? Sorry if I got you sidetracked with all this... I'll see you around, maybe...

Sumia: Ah, t-that's okay! I always enjoy talking to another rider... Uh, and yes! I will definitely see you again soon, uh, sir! ...Geez... Way to go, Sumia! You completely forgot to introduce yourself! Now he already knows what a scatterbrain you are...

Link: ...Hey...

Sumia: ...Oh! I knew you'd come back! Er, I mean... H-Hello again! I'm really sorry that I didn't tell you before, but I'm Sumia, one of Chrom's honorary Shepherds!

Link: ...It's no problem... I'm Link.

Sumia: Huh, that's a unique name. W-Well... I wasn't trying to say that it's weird or anything... I meant... *sigh* Just forget it... So... did you come here to see the pegasi again, Link?

Link: ...I'd like to stay and help out with them... but I was also looking for you, this time.

Sumia: M-Me!?

Link: There's something I've been curious about... and I think you'd be the best person to ask for answers.

Sumia: I... I can try. What's got you so interested?

Link: ...What's it like to fly?

Sumia: Flying? It's... well, it's... freeing... I think that's the word I would use to describe it.

Link: ...Freeing?...

Sumia: Flying is... a lot of things, really. It's exhilarating, and wonderful, and mind-boggling all at once. For me, though... that liberating feeling is what brings me back so often. When I'm flying... all my worries disappear... I don't dwell on all the mistakes I make... I don't think about the mess of a person that I am... It's just me, my pegasus, and the open skies...

Link: ...That sounds amazing...

Sumia: You told me that you don't have pegasi in your world, so this is probably a dumb question, but... are you curious because you've never flown before?

Link: ...Yeah. In Hyrule, there are legends about the creation of the world... How the people lived thousands of years ago... And one of the most popular is about an era of time when Hyrule's descendants lived on a city that floated above the clouds... Supposedly, they flew on the backs on giant birds to travel the skies... similar to the pegasi you have in this world, I imagine.

Sumia: Wow... I'd love to live in a world like that...

Link: Regardless of its validity... that story has always fascinated me.

Sumia: ...Well, it's a good thing we met, then!

Link: ...Hmm?

Sumia: Now that I know about your dream of flying, I can teach you how to ride a pegasus and make it a reality!

Link: I thought you said that pegasi don't let men ride them, though...

Sumia: T-That's true... I've never seen a male pegasus rider before... but... that doesn't mean it can't be done! I mean, look at how calm Palla is around you. She already likes you more than some of the women in the army, and you haven't even known each other long!

Link: ...You would know better than me, I suppose...

Sumia: If anyone can do it, it's definitely you, Link. Just think about it... 'The otherworldly hero becomes the first man to join the pegasus knights in all of history'! It's like one of my fantasy novels brought to life...

Link: Y-You're giving me way too much credit, Sumia... but if you think it's possible... I'll give it a shot.

Sumia: Yes! You'll be flying your own mount in no time!... Though, I might not actually be the best instructor for this... Shoot, maybe I should try and find Cordelia to-

Link: Let's worry about that later... I came here to groom the horses, too, after all. Maybe you could... tell me more of your pegasus stories while I work?

Sumia: Y-You really want to keep talking to me?

Link: ...W-Why wouldn't I?

Sumia: I'm... kind of a blabbermouth... and a klutz... I don't think I'm all that fun to talk with...

Link: ...You seem fine to me... Why don't you tell me how you met Palla?

Sumia: Oh! That is a neat story, actually! It was while we were on the way to Regna Ferox...

Link: I have to say... I was afraid the novelty of flying would wear off after some time... but I still can't get enough of it...

Sumia: It's sooo captivating, isn't it?... Y'know... I was worried that you might've ended up hating flying, at first. A lot of people never even want to try because they're afraid of heights... And most of the ones that do give it a try find out that being up so high still makes them uneasy. They freeze up so much that they can't enjoy it...

Link: ...They don't know what they're missing...

Sumia: Well... Over the last few months, we've been on a pretty good number of test flights. I think you should start considering your solo-run debut!

Link: ...Hmm...

Sumia: You might feel hesitant... but you can do it! You and Palla are such good friends now! Trust me, you'll do great, like always!

Link: I-It's not that I doubt myself... It's just... I'm not sure that I want to fly by myself anymore...

Sumia: ...Oh... Well, there are a handful of riders in our army. I'm sure any of them would say yes to flying with you, Link.

Link: ...Ah... S-So... Just to be clear... You don't want to fly with me anymore, then? It's... okay if you don't, I just want to be-

Sumia: W-Wait, NO!... I-I mean... *ahem* That's not the case at all, Link. I would love to keep flying with you! Sorry for jumping to conclusions... I didn't think you liked being around me... I figured you were interested in learning from me, that's all...

Link: In the beginning, maybe... Nowadays, though, getting to be with you is a big part of why our flights are so fun.

Sumia: ...You really mean that?

Link: ...Yeah, I do... You don't look convinced, though...

Sumia: Of course I'm not... You're... you! The dashing hero that could have come straight out of the pages of my new favorite novel, 'The Mystery Man from the Shadows of Twilight'! In fact, you say that you traveled here from a different world, but what if an ancient sorcerer literally pulled you from the pages of-

Link: Sumia.

Sumia: S-Sorry... But yeah... You're you... and I'm me...

Link: ...Why do you think so poorly of yourself?

Sumia: Because... I'm no good at anything! I'm a soldier, but I'm terrible at fighting! I can't cook, or clean, or provide any kind of help... The only thing I can do is trip over my own feet...

Link: ...What about flying?... Taking care of animals?... Telling stories?... Being positive and making others happy? You're great at all of those...

Sumia: Well, I...

Link: Who cares about that stuff, anyway? I don't... You're my friend and I want to spend time with you... That's all that really matters.

Sumia: ...

Link: And also... you need to stop imagining me as some... fairy-tale character... It's true that I saved my realm... but I'm just as normal as everyone else... I'm certainly no royal prince... I'm quiet and... awkward... I like to sleep in trees...

Sumia: I'm sorry! I didn't mean to come across that way... and... thanks for saying all that... I know I'm too hard on myself sometimes. It's become a bad habit and it's so difficult to break...

Link: Don't worry about it... Like I said, you're so positive and uplifting... You deserve to have others in your life that will raise your spirits, too.

Sumia: You've been very uplifting! I can promise you that.

Link: So...there's no telling how long I'll be here... How long this struggle will go on for... But, at least until I leave... do you want to keep flying together?

Sumia: Yes, Link! Absolutely!

Sumia: Yeah, yeah... I know what you're thinking, big girl! 'Another brushing? Sumia, this is the tenth time this week!' I know! But Link's been asking to fly so often lately... I've gotta keep you nice and proper in case he-

Link: Hey, Sumia. There's-

Sumia: *gasp* I... I wasn't gossiping about you with Palla!

Link: ...

Sumia: O-Okay... I was... but it wasn't the mean, nasty kind of gossip! You can trust me on this!

Link: ...

Sumia: Do you believe me? It really wasn't anything bad! Oh, gosh... I'd hate for this to ruin our friendship...

Link: H-Hey... slow down. I believe you, I was just... caught off guard a little...

Sumia: ...Oh... Sorry... Did I interrupt you? You looked like you were going to say something...

Link: Yeah, I have something... important... to tell you...

Sumia: Mmm... Okay, I'm all ears, Link!

Link: ...I... I'm not exactly sure how I should say this... I'm... inexperienced with this sort of thing, but-

Sumia: You're not usually so coy, Link... *gasp* Oh, gods... Did someone eat that pie I made? This creepy Plegian guy told me that putting tree bark in a pie adds a really satisfying crunch. Of course, I dismissed this as a dumb joke at the time. I'm not even sure if tree bark is edible, y'know? But the more I thought about it-

Link: No... This isn't about... tree bark pies...

Sumia: Phew! Thank the heavens... What is on your mind, then?

Link: Well... I'm a bit anxious to tell you... I don't want to change our relationship in a... negative way... but if I never tell you-

Sumia: Ah, I get it... Vaike finally beat you in a duel, huh? No need to worry, though. I'm not disappointed in you at all, and we can definitely still be friends! Vaike is really dedicated to his training, after all. It's no surprise that he managed to-

Link: Sumia... T-That's not what I'm talking about... Can you... try not to cut me off?

Sumia: Sorry, sorry, sorry! It's just... when you said you had something 'important' to talk about, my mind started imagining the worst... You can go ahead...

Link: Alright... So... I should just say it... I really like you, Sumia...

Sumia: ...You 'like' me?

Link: ...R-Romantically, I mean... I like you romantically...

Sumia: ...

Link: ...Do... Do you... like me? Do you have feelings for me... is what I mean to ask...

Sumia: ...

Link: ...Was that too... forward of me?... I wasn't sure how I should-

Sumia: Liar!

Link: ...W-What?...

Sumia: Save your breath, shameless flirt! I... *sigh* I received a flower fortune a while back... I asked 'Will Link ever fall in love with me?'... and the answer was 'no'... So, shame on you for trying to get my hopes up! I... I thought you were better than that...

Link: ...Flower fortunes? Sumia... are your fortunes always accurate?

Sumia: ...N-Not always... but they're more accurate that you'd think!

Link: They are wrong sometimes, though...

Sumia: ...

Link: You really think I'm the type to lie about this? Or... do you just find this unbelievable?... You think there's no way I could fall in love with you... right?

Sumia: ...Yeah... That's exactly what it is...

Link: H-Hey, don't... don't cry, Sumia... I'll explain, in great detail, every single thing about you that I love if that's what it takes to put your mind at ease... I'll tell you that you're the most attractive woman I've ever met... I'll describe how a room, and every person in it, brightens the moment your presence is known... I'll remind you of all the lives you've changed for the better just by being your normal, caring self... I'll do it over and over and over again...

Sumia: ...Oh my goodness... You sounded exactly like the heroic Lord Sigurd in the Jugdrali sagas when he confessed to Deirdre, the love of his life...

Link: ...Um... Sorry? That... probably sounded pretty cheesy, huh?

Sumia: No!... It was perfect... I'm the one who's sorry. You made such a heartfelt confession and I had the gall to question you... You should just desert me for being so cruel...

Link: Heh... Not happening. Whether it's 'fair' or not, you're still the one I want to be with, and that won't change.

Sumia: ...And I want to be with you, Link. I'd be happy spending the rest of my life soaring the skies with you...
