Hey everybody thanks for all the love and information for me to take into account I really do appreciate every thing you've all said and helped with. I've had a bit of a rough moment in my personal life and just looking and seeing all the love for this simple fanfiction is what is pushing me further. I'd also like to give a shout out to one FergalG3. They have suggested a take on this story that has a pretty big change. I'm not going to spoil too much as I am still in the planning stage and wanna finish this story. Thank you so much and now ON WITH THE SHOW!
It wasn't until after breakfast did Harry finally start to come to realization of what had transpired before. He invited his Uncle's family to stay for now until they figured out what would be best for them and himself. After all if he just sent them back out into the muggle world than they may get attacked again in association with him especially after Petunia and Dudley yelled and, in Dudley's case, attempted to attack Voldemort. However, a bigger question sat on his head. How did Voldemort know so fast about his majority being reached, although by contract. Harry stepped outside in order to attempt to figure this out in the calm nature of the outside and it gave him a chance to see the full manor and the field that surround it all complete with a nice pond not far from the manor.
"You're wondering about him, aren't you?" A voice broke through Harry's thoughts. He turned his head and saw, to his own surprise, not Tonks but Dudley. "You did the same thing at the park. Sitting in the swing and for the longest time just staring out. I guess I knew why after the what happened last year."
Harry simply nodded as he moved over a bit and Dudley took the seat beside him.
"It's why I always came back..." Harry said and Dudley looked towards him with a raised eyebrow. " I wanted to run away more and more. Especially after that summer I went to the Weasleys two years ago. I only came back because at the time me living by Aunt Petunia kept my mother's magic alive. On the night she died to protect me..." He went on to tell Dudley the story of his parent's sacrifice and the magic his mother created to keep Harry safe and the necessity of being by someone of his mother's blood. "And that's why I stayed especially after it became clear how much you needed it last year." The haunting memory of the dementors holding Dudley up in the air, sucking out his happiness, his soul...
"You know I don't blame you for that?" Dudley finally spoke catching Harry off guard. "I actually wanted to thank you for that night... but all I could do was feel frozen. I felt stuck in a state of fear and darkness. Those things..."
"They're called Dementors."
"Yeah, those, the dementors." Dudley was beginning to pull grass out of the ground and tying the grass together to keep him focused and his mind going otherwise he may freeze up again. "If it wasn't for you.. Well thank you Harry." He said and put a hand on his shoulder. "Here." He handed him a rope. "I had to use it after last year to help myself. I'm thinking your gonna need it more than me for now."
Harry looked down at the rope and for the first time getting something like this didn't seem like a joke or simply a insult from the family but something to actively help him. He began to use it immediately and after a few moments his shoulders dropped and he felt thoughts become a bit clearer. "Wow...that does help."
"Yeah. I'm gonna go check on mum." He smiled at his cousin and headed off to the manor leaving Harry to put his thoughts together correctly and as he did this he couldn't help but wonder if Hermione did something similar to this to help her out and as he did he began to categorize them.
Facts.
Voldemort found out Harry reached his majority.
Voldemort had always known about the old magic his mother used to protect him and the wards must have been stronger at the Dursleys with the blood connection.
Voldemort must have spies not only at Hogwarts, through the young family members of the Death Eaters, but also at the Ministry of Magic.
However, as his thoughts kept going he began to have some questions.
Why didn't the other wards hold up or warn him?
Where was Dumbledore the moment the wards were broken and not after the fact?
Why were none of the Order members keeping a eye on him at that moment like Tonks said they were?
As more questions funneled in these were the most prevalent. Maybe it was time to have a word with Dumbledore. He stood and headed back to the manor. "Tippy!" He yelled and a house elf appeared beside him as he walked.
"Yes Master Harry?" The young elf looked up at him with a wide smile and big eyes.
"Firstly you do not need to call me Master or Sir. I'm just Harry." Harry's memory of Dobby brought such a bold image of how annoying that had been. "Secondly, I need you to tell me about the wards here and which interact with people upon coming and leaving." The elf bowed and began to tell Harry how the manor's wards were set similarly to the same charm as others but the major one was made by the Potter family. A ward in which upon leaving the wards the location is removed from your mind. Apparently Dumbledore had even been affected by this strong memory ward.
New question.
If the wards here were so strong...then why did Dumbledore asked his parents to go to Godric's Hollow?
He sighed and by the time he realized it he was back in the manor and had taken a seat with a quill and ink. He began to work on a letter or letters to be sent out. Firstly, to the Weasleys, to let them know he was safe and that he would invite them soon to where he was. Secondly, to Hermione, for the exact same reason and to let her know to keep them all safe. Finally to Dumbledore, he informed him he was indeed safe and that he had questions only the self named and worldly recognized "Greatest Wizard of All Time" could answer for him. To each he had said that when they were ready to say the name Tippy and they would have a way to be taken to where he was.
Once he finished he sat the quill down and rubbed his wrist. He hadn't written as much since last school year due to the education set forth by the former Under Secretary to the Minister Dolores Um-bitch. He still felt the bumps on his hand.
I must not tell Lies.
Another sign of how bad and torturous last year had been for him. From the dementors, to the blasphemy of his own name, to the literal torture, and the death of...a lump hitched in his voice as he again recalled Sirius' death. He closed his eyes and hung his head. His hands went into his hair and held his head as he tried to hold back and keep his mind on task. Little did he know his shuddered breathing had caught the ear of someone. For when the arms wrapped around him and the pink hair he saw lean over his shoulder to hug him did he began to cry.
"It's okay Harry." Tonks whispered to him. just a small soft whisper and yet...it was comforting. He leaned back into the hug as the tears dripped freely.
"I...I couldn't keep them sa-" Harry began before being interrupted.
"But you did Harry. You kept them safe. You did it." Those words. To simply tell Harry that he did save someone after the past two years of failing in his own mindset. Cedric, Sirius. Both bravely standing up against that which would harm and did destroy them. He could only hope that they both are happy. "Thank you Harry."
She turned him around and leaned more into the hug helping him stand up and squeezed him tightly.
"I should be thanking you Tonks...You've been there for me." Harry pointed out. "More than Hermione and definitely more than Ron. Though I could guess that's thanks to you having to watch me." He tried to do what his godfather would do and elevate the sadness with humor. Tonks simply shook her head against his chest and looked up at him.
"Enough of that." She smiled. "Come now. You and me are a unbeatable team. I promise next time I'll stand by your side and not on the ground knocked out." She promised him and her both with that. The humiliation of not being prepared for that sudden attack. Dear god, she thought, Mad-eye is going to kill me for failing his number one rule. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
"We were caught off guard the first time...now I want you to help me train and be ready for the next time. For there will always be a next time." Harry smiled at her.
"Sounding like a Auror under Mad-eye's training already." She teased and smiled. "Well then consider the novice training complete. Now...Now I'm gonna train you harder than you've ever been before." She winked at him causing his face to go red and he stepped back at that. Tonks had to admit she did quite enjoy getting this sudden rise out of him for her jokes and teasing. She turned to walk away having the final word.
"What happens if I surpass you...Professor Tonks?" Harry grinned back red faced as She froze. No one. No one gets the final word on her and that one rushed the blood up to her face. She turned and for a long moment thought and thought and thought of a way to get back at him for it.
"I-I'm." She bit her lip trying to think of the best way to counteract him and then smirked. There's no way he'd have a good comeback for this. "I'd have to make your lessons more...Physical." She smirked with a hand on her hip looking at him.
"Looking forward to it." Harry grinned back at her. "Professor." This left her mouth stuck open as Harry walked past her only stopping to close her mouth. "Careful, you'll catch flies." He smirked before running off before she hexed him. However, once Tonks turned around she couldn't think of a good hex...but she could think of how much she actually kinda liked his teasing back, and the way he had capitalized on her frozen nature by closing her mouth like that. Perfectly educated. She let her shock turn into a smirk and a grin. This training may be more fun than she expected.
