Seventeen-year-old Neji sat on a boulder with Tenten eating the salmon rice balls that had been packed for lunch during their mission. Their focus however was on their Team Leader, Might Guy and their teammate Rock Lee who had decided to challenge each other to a push up competition. Neji gave an exasperated sigh as he bit into the rice ball, the grumbling of his stomach had convinced him to ignore the two fitness fanatics and focus on his own physical well being. Tenten soon followed suite eating a bit of the rice ball and glancing at Neji from the corner of his eye. He didn't need Byakugan to see the gesture, he'd been noticing it for the past two years. As they watched their sensei and teammate face off against each other Neji began to feel an unusual sensation in the air.

He placed his rice ball down and positioned his hands before calling out, "byakugan."

The blood flow increased to his eyes and his pupils became more noticeable, from the sky he could see a large amount of what appeared to be an energy signature similar to chakra, there was a large creature that looked similar to an octopus but had too many tendrils. Within two of those tendrils were what appeared to be a couple of small children, and there was a third humanoid standing in mid air with a fist wrapped around some kind of object that seemed to flow with the same energy.

Neji gasped at the sight before taking off towards the creature that was in the sky. Lee and Guy stopped their competition, while Tenten followed closely behind Neji. The other two wordlessly followed Tenten.

"What is it? I don't see or sense anything here," Tenten inquired.

"I'm not sure. I've never seen or felt anything like it, but it's definitely there," Neji answered as he ran, the larger humanoid made a slashing motion with whatever object they were holding and the sixteen armed octopus vanished from Neji's sight. It was then apparent that there were two children involved, both of which began to fall but the larger humanoid caught them, and then landed on the ground, placing the children down on the grass before leaving the area.

"The creature is gone. The older person abandoned the children," he reported to the others.

This seemed to anger Rock Lee as he inquired, "what kind of irresponsible person would just leave defenseless children alone?"

"Maybe they're a missing-nin," Tenten suggested as they arrived where Neji had seen the creature and the strange occurrence, but no sign of battle. There was no blood, nor corpse of the creature. They did however find a small child couldn't have been more than four years old, unconscious. He had dark red hair, next to him a girl slightly older who had dark brown hair. Near her lay an adult woman with jet black hair. When Guy touched her, he was dismayed to find her flesh scarcely had any heat to it.

"This is strange," Guy observed as he surveyed the scene. He then regarded Neji before concluding, "it seems you're the only one who can see this creature."

"I believe the only reason I'm able to see them is because of my Byakugan," Neji advised, he then suggested, "it may be better if I pursue this on my own. Take the woman and children back to the Hidden Leaf, and send as many from the Hyuga Clan as possible."

Tenten gathered the child, a young red haired boy who couldn't have been more than four years of age. Guy regarded Neji and cautioned, "if you're only able to see them with your Byakugan and they're otherwise undetectable they could be highly skilled Jonin."

"I won't take unnecessary risks," Neji assured him before running off and shouting back to his team, "the longer we delay the greater distance they gain."

Farther away, Above the tree tops of the Hidden Leaf Village, what appeared to be a brunette teenage girl raced to put distance between herself and the pursuer. She wore a modified sleeveless kimono, with shortened hakama that better resembled a skirt, a white undergarment beneath the kimono, no tabi and the same sandals. She wore a red obi and a red scarf in a shawl like fashion over her shoulders. Her brown hair was pulled up into a bun at the back of her head and secured by an orange ribbon. She had high cheekbones, an angular jaw and a porcelain skin tone.

Tied to her red obi was a dark red wakizashi sheath, which held blade with a golden flame shaped tsuba. As she flash stepped she noticed that on the ground a human was actually keeping up with her at a considerable pace. Spotting a nearby cave that was high up, she decided to take refuge there and see if he continued to pursue her. What were the odds of a Quincy being in this world? Hmm-that's a question to be sure.

She landed on a high tree branch then jumped from that to the mouth of the cave, landing gracefully she made her way in when the reaitsu from another entity struck her, she kept her posture relaxed noting that she was not alone.

She could sense something else, heading up the mountain side. Probably the human, but it was as if he was actually running, and not climbing. That didn't make much sense. Humans aren't spiders how could one scale the side of a mountain with such ease? Soon the other reaitsu hit her with more force, causing her to bring up an arm to shield her eyes from any dust or debris that could be blown into them. 'Oh boy, this one's stronger, but still fairly weak,' she realized.

She leapt backwards away from the creature which revealed its self to be a giant serpent like hollow.

She drew several symbols in the air, causing her body to glow with a red aura before she called out, "bakudo 9, Geki!"

The red aura transferred over to the Serpent like hollow. She gripped the hilt of her Zanpakuto ready to draw it when she heard a male voice call out, "Eight trigrams, sixty-four palms!"
