Three hours after the conversation with Hinata, the three of them headed off to investigate the structure that Chiaki had seen behind the Hyuga house. It was a large structure which resembled a satellite dish on the ground, but there were visible burns, dents, and damage to the antenna.
"It's one of the broadcast boosters Soul Society uses to monitor hollow activity. No wonder I'm getting static," Chiaki stated as she observed the object.
Hinata was unable to see anything, but having learned a bit more during their walk, such as Neji only being able to see Chiaki without using byakugan because he nearly died a few years ago, she trusted what Chiaki was saying. Quietly the Hyuga heir apparent asked, "can it be fixed?"
"That's a good question," Chiaki admitted with a heavy sigh. After examining the object and she concluded, "If I had access to resources from back home I could have it up and running within a day, but that's not an option right now. If I leave and something happens—I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror."
The Hyuga cousins both looked as if they were in contemplation before Neji asked, "What materials would you need to fix this?"
"It's not like a gigai. I need a metal alloy that's only found back home. Otherwise the reiatsu signals won't be absorbed," Chiaki explained.
Neji's eyes saddened at the information, while Hinata felt her own eyes tearing up.
'I'm alone in this,' Chiaki thought to herself. "We'll see about a few other options," Hinata offered. When met with Chiaki's amber eyes she explained, "We have alliances with other nations. Maybe one of them would have what you need."
Chiaki gave a sad smile and replied, "I appreciate the thought, Hinata. However, this isn't something that can be found in your world. I do have a very small amount of the alloy but no way to replicate it or increase the amount to what would be required for the repairs."
"Well I'm not giving up. There's a bad person in our world, technically a rogue ninja called Orochimaru. He's sort of similar to the criminal you're chasing in that he performed a lot of illegal experiments on people. Maybe one of his known hideouts had some technology that we seized which could help. It's worth investigating if nothing else, right? If not then it's just one more possibility off the list," Neji suggested.
Chiaki's smile brightened a little and she nodded in agreement. 'Good, that's a real smile again. I don't like that one she puts on for show. It's so fake,' Neji thought to himself.
"In the meantime I'll see about having some of our family guard this area since it's near our property anyway," Hinata offered.
"If someone comes back to try to damage it further, there'll be witnesses at the very least," she concluded.
"I suppose that is worth something," Chiaki agreed, she gave a small sigh and looked to Neji before asking, "You want to try raspberry cheesecake? It's been that kind of day."
"Sure," he readily agreed.
Elsewhere a blonde haired man stood six feet tall. He was wearing a green kimono style shirt and hakama, wooden geta, and a black loose coat with white diamond symbols that wrapped around the hem of the coat. A black cat with golden eyes resided on his left shoulder. His right hand held a large bag which he was currently slinging over his right shoulder. He carried a simple can with a hooked handle, and on his head was a green and white boat hat which hid his eyes from easy view.
Next to the two of them stood a woman of 4'11 ½ in height, she was thin, and wore her black hair tied up in the back with chin length bangs framing either side of her face as well as medium length bangs parted to the left side of her head, her brown eyes reflected determination and kindness. She wore a badge on her left arm, she wore a standard shinigami uniform and a katana was fastened at her side. They stood in midair over Konoha, soon being joined by another man who stood 5'6 ½ "tall, his purple black hair reached slightly past his shoulders, he wore a white cape with his uniform which extended from his right shoulder to over the entirety of his left arm and fastened at the front by a single button. On either side of his head were feathered hair ornaments. His violet eyes were stern but also a bit wry.
They were soon joined by the final person who stood at 5' tall, with a standard shinigami uniform. He had blue eyes and chin length black hair with bangs framing his face. He wore a pack over his shoulder.
"Glad to see your flash step has improved, Yamada," the man wearing the white cape stated.
Hanataro cheerfully replied, "of course! Can't be tripping over myself as a third seat, can I?"
Momo closed her eyes for a moment before encouraging the two, "could we all be civil? I realize our different divisions don't always get along but we're all here on the same mission."
Yumichika was about to object when The taller man spoke, "Hinamori is correct. While you three search for her, I'll see about repairing the transceiver. He glanced to the cat, "stay close to Yamada-san. Hmm? He may have improved in flash step but he's still not quite fit for combat."
The cat wordlessly stood up and bounced onto Yamada's right shoulder. Momo hesitated before asking, "Will you be alright if you run into him?"
"I can hold my own for a while," the man confirmed before glancing to the others, "But remember if you find either one, signal for the rest of us."
A slight nod from the others and he sped off, the others doing the same in various directions. The man with the boat hat headed off towards the Hyuga house.
