Eric decides to play a game of truth or dare to prove who belongs in Dauntless and who doesn't. But as always, Eric's rules are about as bad as they can get. If you pick truth, you're seen as a coward and are forced to stand in front of the target while Four throws knifes. If you flinch, you're out. If you refuse to do a dare given to you, you're out. Set during initiation.

Tris escapes her abusive and power hungry husband to not only find a new life in a safe and small beach town, but she also finds what true friendship and true love is really all about.

After initiation Tris starts her leadership training under Eric, leading to her and Four breaking up. Trying to adjust to her new responsibilities and find out what Erudite is planning, Tris practically spends all of her time with her new co-leader, almost forgetting that Eric is also the enemy.

Divergents were valued but kept secret in Chicago. Alexandria was glad to get Divergent on her aptitude test, soon joining Dauntless and quickly working up the ranks. A revolution was starting, one that wanted to keep the city closed from the world. It didn't help that she was attracted to a fellow Dauntless member and their chemistry was unrivalable. She was going to stop it.
