The next morning arrived, Elena slowly opened her eyes, her vision slightly blurred; she looked around the room before pulling herself up into a sitting position, she rubbed her eyes several times until her vision was clear.

She pushed the quilt from her and dragged herself out of bed, she went straight into the bathroom and began getting ready for the day; shower, teeth, dressed, etc, she threw on a pair of black skinny jeans and a t-shirt with a pair of black ankle boots to match.

She exited the bedroom and made her way to the kitchen; the house had been completely silent until she neared the door, she could hear Klaus talking on the phone, his voice filled with frustration, she knew she shouldn't but she couldn't help but listen in.

"What do you mean he's not there, Rebekah?"

A few moments later, he spoke again, "so, he wasn't lying then, make all the arrangements for tomorrow night, we have to leave."

When she heard the phone snap shut, she cleared her throat and entered the kitchen he had his hands pressed against the counter and he leaned against it, "good morning."

"Mornin', love," he was trying to act sincere but she could tell he was annoyed, "how did you sleep?"

"Fine," she smiled kindly towards him before reaching for the coffee pot, there was already some made thankfully, "did you get any sleep?"

"Not exactly," once again, she poured him a cup of coffee and passed it to him; the one thing Elena hated about herself was her heart, she felt compassion towards those who seemed to be suffering, she tried to find the best in people.

"Do you want to talk about?" she spoke before bringing the cup to her lips and taking a big gulp, feeling more refreshed already.

"Not much to talk about, darlin', your crazy boyfriend wasn't lying about waking Mikael up, Rebekah went back to the crypt last night and he was gone," anger began to become apparent in his voice, "we have to leave soon, I need to make more hybrids then move on to somewhere safer."

"I'm sorry they done this, they where just scared," she tried to defend them, an attempt that had proven pointless, he was only becoming angrier.

"They don't know fear until they cross paths with Mikael, if I hadn't of taken you from Mystic Falls, he would kill them all, anything to get to me."

"Why does he want to kill me?" she questioned, her fear beginning to rise.

"You're the doppelgänger, the key to making new hybrids, he hates anything to do with me and my kind, you'll be the first he kills and everyone you love would defend you, he'll kill them all for getting in his way."

"Okay, so how are we going to stop him?" she cocked her head to the side, trying to be as brave as she possibly could.

"You want to help me?" he questioned, looking at her with a puzzling expression.

"I told you, no matter what the situation, I'm there," she took one last sip of coffee and placed the cup on the table, "so, what do you need me to do?"

He was surprised by her response, he knew they had an arrangement but he never expected her to be so co-operative, "do you want the whole plan or the parts that involve you?

"All of it, secrets always make it worse, I can handle it."

"Fair enough, love," he sat down at the table opposite to her, "there is a another reason why we came to Charlotte, there is a pack of wolves that live deep in the forest on the edge of town; using the blood I collected from you in the hospital, I'm going to change them before the full moon tomorrow."

Elena nodded her head, trying to handle all this as best she could.

"Once they've turned, we leave here and begin preparing a defence for my fathers arrival; for the first time in a thousand years, I'm going to face him, I want my family whole again."

"So what should I do whilst you're with the wolves?"

"You're coming with me, I'm not leaving you alone for that long, I don't trust that you will stay," Klaus was still paranoid, he doubted he would ever trust anyone, not just her.

"Fine," Elena smiled, trying to be onboard with him as much as she could, even if she didn't like it, she had no choice, she couldn't risk someone getting hurt her because of her, "when do we leave?"

"Whenever you're ready."

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

"You're really not going to fight me on this?"

"No, Klaus, forever is a long time, we might as well get used the fact this is how life works now, I'm not going to fight you forever."

Klaus appreciated her words but a part of him still didn't believe her, he just remained cautious, "then let's go."

-w-

It was midday, the sun was at its highest peak and Klaus and Elena where hiking through the woods, it had been at least an hour until they had arrived and still no sign of the pack, he couldn't even sense them yet.

"How deep in the forest are they hiding? I'm regretting not changing my shoes," she came to a sudden stop and Klaus had turned around, she pointed to her feet and shrugged her shoulders, she could feel the blisters forming on her heels.

Klaus laughed, Elena too finding the amusement in the entire situation, "wow, did I actually just make you laugh?"

"It would appear so, love," he smirked out of pleasure, "don't get used to it."

Elena couldn't help but laugh slightly at his words, she began to speak sarcastically, "look, more progress, we'll be best friends before you know it."

"You're right," he nodded, his sarcasm just as apparent, "I'll buy us matching friendship bracelets."

"Oh no, Klaus, real best friends make them," they both laughed at her words; the sun was certainly helping Elena's mood and she had to admit to herself that he wasn't that bad when he was by himself, not showing off or fighting everyone near him."

"Shame, I guess we're not true friends then," He shot her a cheeky smile before continuing on the hike.

Elena's feet where starting to hurt so much that even putting slight pressure on them would cause her skin to rub against the leather, she lost her balance when she stepped on a large rock beneath her foot, she called out as she felt herself falling.

Just as she thought she was going to hit the ground, she fell into Klaus' arms; he had used his speed to catch her before she fell down, her arms instinctively went around his neck to stop her from going backwards.

"You alright there?" he smiled, his demeanour softening.

There faces where inches away; Elena's heart was racing, not just from almost falling but because of the contact between them and she knew that he could hear it. She cleared her throat, "I'm fine, thank you."

"Can't have you falling and breaking your neck now, can we?"

As he helped her back onto her feet, she held onto his arm for balance, there bodies still just as close; she was shocked by her own reaction to him catching her, she didn't feel fear being near him, she didn't know what it was.

"I'm definitely regretting the shoes now," the both chuckled before continuing on the walk, Klaus stood beside her and slowed down the pace, they where deep within the woods now and he was starting to smell the presence of wolves.

"Shh," he placed his finger on his lips and looked to Elena, his arm extended in front of her to stop her moving, "I can hear something."

Elena just looked at him and shook her head, unable to hear a thing.

"Stay behind me," he whispered as he continued to walk more forward, pulling back the bushes and branches that got in his way.

Suddenly, a man emerged from behind the trees and lunged at Elena; Klaus caught him and threw him in the opposite direction just before he could touch her, "found them."

"What do you want, hybrid?" A woman's voice could be heard but she was no where to be seen; Klaus glanced over the surrounding area, he didn't see anyone but he could feel them.

"If you don't come out into the open, I'll kill your little friend here," he walked over to wolf that had tried to attack Elena and picked him up by the neck; he was kicking his legs and trying to pull Klaus' hands away but he failed.

"Fine," the woman spoke as at least twelve more wolves emerged from behind the bushes and trees, "what do you want?"

He released the wolf and let him drop to the ground, he remained stood next to him as he spoke, "I'm here to offer you the deal of a lifetime, join me as hybrids and never have to change on a full moon again; never having to endure that pain and suffering of every bone in your bodies breaking at once, be stronger than ever and change at will."

"You're crazy if you think we want to be hybrids, now leave before we kill you and you're pretty little human," Klaus snarled his lip at her words, his patience evaporating.

"You're extremely mistaken if you think you have a choice," he grinned, his facial expressions completely sinister; he used his speed to bite into the neck of the wolf on the floor, he was weak but not dead, Klaus bit into his own wrist and pushed it against the wolfs mouth, forcing him to drink; before the others could attack, he had snapped his neck, his body lifeless on the floor.

"Who's next?" his mouth was covered in blood as he began to attack, he couldn't kill them yet, they needed his blood in there system first so he could only fight enough to disable them, making them unable to fight back the blood.

Anyone who came at him was met with a painful blow, he threw there bodies to the side and carried on until there was no-one left but him; he walked around the wolves, dripping his blood into there mouths and snapping there necks until it was in there systems.

Elena had hidden behind a large bush at the start of the fight, keeping out of the way as much as she possibly could, everyone was too focused on trying to kill Klaus that they left her alone; all she could do was watch as Klaus attacked and killed every single one of them, she was terrified and she could barely look at him.

Once they where all dead, he came to her side and extended a hand towards her; she swallowed a lump in her throat and took it, he lead her out from behind the bush and towards a large, broken tree trunk laying on the ground, they both sat down, "now, we wait."

-w-

Hours had passed and there was still no sign; the entire afternoon had come and gone and the night was upon them, darkness began to fill the area and Elena was becoming more and more scared.

A loud gasp emerged from the first wolf that woke up, he woke up confused and disoriented; Klaus went into the duffelbag he had brought and pulled out the blood-bag filled with Elena's blood, he was instantly at the wolfs side and feeding him a small amount of the doppelgängers blood, the key to transition.

One-by-one they began to wake, Klaus had used up the blood-bag on the first 5 wolves that had risen and went onto the second, the final one. He reached hybrid number 9 before he ran out, 3 more wolves where about to wake and he had none stored.

Elena watched as they all began to transition, there eyes yellow and they looked fierce; she couldn't believe she was stuck in the depths of the woods with Klaus and his group of crazy hybrids.

When the last 3 wolves had awoken, it was seeming like they where unable to finish there transition; there was no blood-bags left and Klaus looked angry about that fact.

He walked towards Elena, kneeling down behind her, "what are you doing?"

He pushed the long, brunette hair from her shoulder and moved it to behind her back, his finger tracing along the soft skin on her neck; he looked up to the hybrids, a grin plastered on his face, "looks like you lucky 3 get it straight from the tap."

"No!" Elena screamed, she tried to stand up and get away but Klaus stopped her; she watched as they stared at her neck, moving closer and closer, "Klaus, no, please?! Stop!"

He ignored her and pushed her obvious pain to the back of his mind, reminding himself that he does not care, he couldn't.

She kept struggling against him as two of them dived on her, biting into either side of her neck; screamed out in pain as she felt her skin rip and they began to drink her blood, screaming turned to frantic crying, Klaus pulled them off her and allowed the 3rd one to feed.

Although she felt weak, when he was done and Klaus had tore him off her, she ran as fast as she could; blood was still oozing from the three bite marks on her neck and she was disoriented, the blood loss causing her to feel dizzy but she still ran.

It was dark and she had no idea where she was going; she could hear twigs snapping behind her and rustling in the bushes, she knew someone was following her, Klaus would never allow her to die but that didn't mean they couldn't keep hurting her. As she kept running, her mind just kept racing, how Klaus could do this to her, her stupidity for thinking they could actually get along.

He was a monster, no more and no less.

Her body was starting to fail her; the blood loss was too much and her strength was depleting, she had too stop, the area around her spinning; her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she went limp, her body crashing to the floor, once again, knocked unconscious.

-w-

She woke up frightened, several hours had passed and she had been brought back to the house; she was lying on her bed, blood stained the pillow where her head had rested. She was still a bit weak but the rest had helped some, the adrenaline giving her the rest of the strength she needed to climb out of bed and race downstairs.

Klaus had appeared in front of her, his arms open so she crashed into him; she began punching away at his chest trying to break free from his grip, "let me go!"

"Elena, calm down," he kept a hold of her, she was frantic.

"No, let me go," she kept punching away at him, trying to force herself free, "just let me go."

"This was our deal, Elena, calm down," she stopped struggling at his words, her body completely still.

"What did you say?" Shock overcame her, tears welling up in her eyes, "you think this was our deal?"

"Your blood for the lives of your loved ones, if I recall."

Before he could say anything else, she brought a hard slap across his face, tears escaping her eyes, "this wasn't our deal, being attacked and bitten by three hybrids in transition wasn't our deal, you promised me I wouldn't be hurt."

He looked down to the ground, unable to look her in the eye; there had been many times in the past where he had gone too far without even realising it, this was one of those times, "Elena-"

"Don't!" she shoved past him and went straight out of the front door, slamming it behind her; she couldn't help but burst into tears, it wasn't even Klaus' betrayal that was hurting her the most, it was the realisation that this was going to be the rest of her life.

She couldn't handle it, not alone.

She peeked her eye inside the window, unable to see Klaus in the living room; she ran around the outside of the house, peering her head in the kitchen window and there was still no sign of him, she assumed he was upstairs, giving her the space she needed after such an ordeal.

Elena ran back to the front of the house, finding the truck Rebekah had drove here; she opened the drivers seat door and saw the keys in the ignition, she took them and ran to the back, unlocking the back and lifting it, revealing the coffins of his daggered family.

She opened the coffins until she found Elijah's; she feared this may be a mistake but she knew once he would learn of the situation she was in with Klaus, he would help, at the very least with controlling his brother. She wrapped her hand around the dagger and pulled it out, keeping a tight hold of it until he awoke.

-w-

After an hour had passed, she closed up the truck and went back into the house; she went straight to the kitchen, making herself a pot of coffee. She needed to act like normal as to not raise any suspicion.

It wasn't long before Klaus had joined her; he was leaning against the door frame with his arms folded across his chest, "Elena, can we talk?"

"Nope," she was cold and distant, exactly what he had expected, he deserved no less.

"I just want to apologise," he walked further into the kitchen, staying a fair few steps away from her, "I don't know what came over me."

"What happened in the woods today was you, you're a monster," she felt her eyes welling up slightly, forcing them back as best she could, continuing to prepare the coffee, "I'm the idiot for thinking you could be anything different."

"I wasn't always a monster, Elena," he watched as she scooped coffee into the filter, pouring the water in the machine and switching it on, he found these simple and tedious little tasks that she does to be quite intriguing.

"I don't care about the past, Klaus, I care about now," a few minutes had passed and she finally got to pour herself a cup, wrapping her hands around it for warmth, "like I said, I'm the idiot for thunking you where different, you hurt anyone who stands in your way, even someone you claim you want to protect, I'll uphold our deal but I'm done trying to make easy of it."

"I truly am sorry, Elena," she could hear the sincerity in his voice but she wouldn't be blinded by him again.

"Yeah, me too," she took a sip of coffee and walked past him, turning her head towards her shoulder to face him, "I can't be in the house with you tonight, I'll be on the porch, I need some peace, If that's fine with you?"

She was being slightly sarcastic in her last comment, she knew she didn't need permission but she was expressing how captive she felt. Klaus just remained silent and watched as she stepped out, the door slamming behind her once again.

Elena entered the truck after a good ten minutes of remaining silent as to not raise suspicion, she sat next to the coffin and waited patiently for him to wake up.

-w-

Several hours had passed, she'd went back inside 3 times for coffee and she had just finished her last one; she started to worry in case it took him all night to rise, at which point Klaus would definitely come to check on her.

A loud gasped emerged from behind her and Elijah had sat up; she scrambled to her feet and placed her hands on the edge of the coffin, watching as he collected himself, "Elena?"

His throat was dry and his voice was weak, she knew he needed to feed and she couldn't handle being attacked again; she extended her arm, her wrist in front of his mouth, "please, just be gentle."

He looked from her wrist to her eyes; despite everything they had been through, he cared deeply for her and felt only shame for needing to feed from her. He grasped her arm and retracted his fangs, sinking them gently into her skin, drinking slowly and never taking more than he needed, he was done a few long moments later.

She watched as colour returned to his skin and his energy had returned; he used his speed to climb out of the coffin and stand near her, there bodies facing, "what did I miss?"

"I-" she paused to clear her throat, unable to find the best place to begun, so much had happened since Klaus daggered him, "long story, short?

He nodded his head, dreading to hear what his brother had been up too.

"Well, Klaus figured out my blood was the key to making hybrids, he turned Tyler Lockwood, kidnapped me and fled Mystic Falls because Damon woke up Mikael, we made a deal that I would come with him or he'd kill everyone I love, he took me into the woods earlier today and made more hybrids, I took the dagger out of your chest and here we are."

"Are you sure that's everything?" He had a complete look of disgust plastered on his face when he noticed her neck, ripped and bloodied, "did he do this to you?"

Elena instantly tried to cover her neck, pushing the tears back that fought to erupt everytime she thought about what happened, "no, his hybrids but he allowed it."

Elijah was speechless at her words; he knew his brother was capable of a lot but this was a whole new level of evil he had never seen in him before; his lip curled up in a growl before he used his speed to enter the house, he pushed so hard on it that it ripped off the hinges and flew to back of the hallway, he went upstairs.

"Oh my god," Elena exasperated, she ran into the house behind him but stopped in the doorway as she saw Klaus fly down the stairs; Elijah was close behind him, grabbing him by the neck and forcing his back into the wall in the living room

"Elijah-" his grip had become tighter on his neck, forcing him to stop talking; hearing his voice only made him angrier, he flung him across the room, catching him before his body hit the ground and pushed him down with greater force.

"Listen to me!" He demanded, his voice loud and strong; he stood onto his feet in seconds, his face covered in blood and wounds.

"Did you listen, brother?" he spoke, complete disgust in his voice, "Did you listen when I warned you not to pursue the hybrids? Did you listen when Elena told you to stop?"

He leapt towards his brother, bringing his fist down onto his face, knocking him back to the ground with force, "you're a complete disgrace, I don't even know who you are anymore."
