Elena ran as fast as she could, all she could hear was the sound of her heartbeat in her ears as she struggled to find breath but she had to keep running, they where coming, she'd already escaped once, if they caught her again, they would kill her.

She had no idea who they where, all she knew was she was having lunch with Davina again and they took her, they pushed something against her mouth and everything faded to black; she woke up in a tunnel, it was dark and damp and she was completely alone. She walked through the tunnels for an hour and found a small opening in the roof above her and she clawed at the wall until she reached it, her fingers where bloodied and her nails cracked but she made it out.

The bayou was her exit, it was dark and the rain filled the area, all she could hear was the howling of the wolves and fear overcame her, she chose flight and ran for her life, she didn't have the strength to fight. She just kept running, completely lost and unbeknownst to the area, she had spent very little time in the bayou, for good reason.

She had no bag, no phone or any way of communicating with the Mikaelsons, all she had was herself and her will to live but even that would only take her so far; her legs where weary and the darkness clouded her vision, she couldn't see the large tree roots growing out of the ground or the large rocks that would get in her way and she fell, a lot.

Out of nowhere, she ran straight into a dark figure, his arms catching her and wrapping around her; she fought for a few seconds, thrashed her arms against him and screamed but she saw him in the end.

She wiped the tears and blood from her eyes and blinked several times to adjust her vision and Klaus became visible, a sigh of relief escaped her lips but she still trembled from the fear that consumed her; she wrapped her arms around his neck, thrilled to see him, "how did you find me?"

He was silent, barely even looking her in the eye; she became nervous the more he remained still, the moonlight shine across the trees and flickered across his face, his eyes glimmered yellow and his facial expressions where cold and fearful, her lips parted slightly, a small gasp escaping her lips at the sight of him.

Fight or flight kicked in again and she darted away from him, she focused all of her strength and energy into her legs and ran, she knew she didn't stand a chance in getting away from him but she had to try, the tears streamed down her cheeks once again and blurred her vision, she was too weak.

He appeared in front of her like a blur, he was too fast, all she could do was plead with him, make him see sense, "Klaus, please, don't."

Silence befell him once again and his eyes became more piercing, he grabbed her by the waist and put his hand on her head, opening the gap between her jaw and shoulder further, revealing the vein in her neck; he plunged his fangs into her skin and drank, she winced slightly from the pain from the first initial contact but she was too weak to scream or cry.

Her eyes where closing slightly, all she could see was the trees in front of her but as her vision became blurry, everything was out of focus and she felt numb, eventually her eyes closing; he stopped feeding the second she fell unconscious and her heart rate started to deplete, he cradled her limp body in his arms and disappeared from the bayou, her torment won't end there.

3 days earlier.

"Just another dull and dreary day in New Orleans," Elena spoke, watching out the window as the rain tapped against the glass; it had been non stop for 2 days, she could barely leave the house, it stopped briefly at times, quick enough for her to run out and complete some errands but she always caught it before she returned home.

"It's quite random weather, I know it's august but I don't remember it ever raining like this," Rebekah commented, raising her eyebrow slightly.

"So, what can we do today?" Elena asked, coming away from the kitchen window and sitting down at the table, her attention turning to Rebekah and Kol, "Klaus and Elijah will probably be gone all day again, so that just leaves us."

"Yippee," Kol spoke sarcastically, waving his arms about playfully; Elena rolled her eyes and nudged him slightly, a small chuckle followed.

"Have they still not told you what they're up too?" Rebekah asked.

"Not a word, he barely talks as it is, he just comes home, showers and we go to bed, he's being very distant," Elena tried to hide the worry in her voice with just speaking casually, she knew there was something very wrong, she could feel it in her bones, "I haven't even heard from Davina or Marcel, they've completely forgotten about taking the quarter back, everything is just too weird."

"They won't even tell us," Kol spat, becoming annoyed at the ignorance of it, "we're supposed to be a family and they're running about without us."

"I know, it's highly frustrating," Rebekah agreed, shaking her head slightly, "I'll try and talk to Elijah tonight, I may be able to get through to him."

"I'll try Klaus," Kol suggested, shrugging his shoulders lightly, "I don't see them sharing, though."

"Nor do I but we have to at least try, whether we like it or not, they're brothers, if they're in danger then they need us," Rebekah spoke, her voice full of seriousness and a hint of nobility, as much as she tried to say she hated her family, she was incredibly loyal to them.

"Let me know how it goes? Even if they you not to tell me," Elena pleaded with them, she hated being kept in the dark.

"I will, I promise," Rebekah smiled at her, attempting to reassure her.

"Of course," Kol smiled at her also, she felt uneasy with both of them being so nice to her, things where definitely changing around the Mikaelson mansion.

-w-

The night time had rolled around and Elena had spent the entire day lounging around, worried about Klaus and Even Elijah, she was growing tired of being consumed by paranoia and concern, it was effecting her more than she had realised; regardless of the torrential rain, she still felt like a prisoner in the plantation, it didn't feel like home and her anxiety made her stay locked away safe inside.

She ran herself a bath in attempt to relax, she filled it to the top with hot steaming water and bubbles, she lit a couple of candles and had quiet classical music on in the background, she had her hair tied up in a bun and she just lay with her head rested on the edge of the tub. She closed her eyes and tried to wash away all of her troubles, even if only temporarily.

Her mind wandered, she thought about Mystic Falls, her brother and all of her friends, she tried not to think about them too much, it just brought her sadness but every now and then, they crept in, she missed them more than she'd care to admit to herself, she abandoned them all for there safety and her new life but what she wouldn't give to go back for one more day.

She was harshly brought back to reality by the bathroom door swinging open and colliding with the wall, causing a loud thud; her eyes shot open and she fumbled slightly, Klaus was stood over the bathtub, his clothes soaked and covered in blood and dirt.

"Are you nearly done?" He asked coldly, he barely looked her in the eye and had tonight decided to skip the niceties, not evening asking her how she was.

"Yep," she said, as she stood up, a wave of water falling over her, "hand me that towel."

He obliged and grabbed the towel from the side, holding it towards her; he watched as she wrapped it around herself and for just a moment, she caught a glimpse of sadness in his eyes but he quickly pushed that away and averted his gaze.

She stepped out of the tub and walked past him, slamming the door shut behind her; she stormed into the bedroom and stood by her dressing table, placing her hands on the surface and leaning in frustration, he was becoming more and more distant from her, she felt like she was losing him and she could do nothing about it. Her trust was dwindling, the colder he was becoming.

She quickly dried herself over and changed into a pair of denim jeans and a t-shirt, she sat down at her dressing table and ran a brush through her hair; she opened the small drawer on the left, usually where her make up bag is housed but it was empty, she tilted her head back out of frustration because she knew exactly where she had left it.

Standing up from the chair, she walked towards the bathroom and opened the door, she walked through and went to the cabinet, she didn't give him the pleasure of looking or talking to him and she just retrieved her make up from the top.

"Where are you going?" Klaus called out but she responded by slamming the bathroom door behind her and returning to her dressing table.

She wore makeup most days but never a lot, only a bit of powder and eyeliner with a splash of mascara; just as she was applying it, she heard the shower stop running, Klaus had stepped out of the tub and wrapped a towel around himself.

The bathroom door swung open and he walked into the room, immediately approaching her, "I'll ask you again, where are you going?"

She simply remained quiet and finished applying her eyeliner, she could see he was becoming impatient and he was becoming more abrupt with his questions.

"Why won't you answer my questions?" He was close to yelling but he was trying everything within his power to not, he knew she didn't deserve that but he was never one for patience.

"Frustrating, isn't it?" She remarked, before standing from the chair at the dressing table and walking towards the coat rack, she picked up her leather jacket and bag and threw them on.

"I'm not in the mood for games, Elena, you can't leave the house, the rain alone is terrible," He argued, rubbing his hand against is forehead in attempt to release the tension forming within it.

"Who's playing games?" She asked rhetorically, she was completely done with sitting around the house worrying about him and his family, she needed space, "I don't even want to talk to you."

She left the bedroom and walked through the hallway and down the stairs, Klaus followed her after a long moment of contemplation; he could either let her leave and potentially bring harm to herself or he could stop her from leaving and he'll ruin there relationship further.

"Elena," he called out to her once again, leaving the bedroom and catching her before she left, "you can't leave."

"I can't stay either, so we're at an impasse," she folded her arms across her chest, her lips pursed.

"No impasse, you're staying."

"No I'm not," she simply tutted her lips and spun on her heel, grasping the door handle and turning it.

"Wait, Elena," his voice had softened ever so slightly, she could hear her Klaus in there; she turned around to look at him, all she wanted was for him to apologise and stop treating her like she doesn't exist, wasn't too much to ask for.

"What, Klaus?" A small sigh escaped her lips, her stubbornness ceasing slightly.

"Please stay," his eyes where locked onto the ground, eye contact wasn't his strong suit lately.

"Give me a reason too," she tilted her head slightly, wondering where all this behaviour was coming from, she had started to doubt herself at one point, her anxiety made her think she was the problem.

"Wait," she heard a voice emerging from behind Klaus, Elijah had exited the kitchen and appeared behind them, his frustration apparent too, "if Elena must leave for a while, then you should not stop her, I'll accompany her."

"Thank you, Elijah," Elena smiled arrogantly towards Klaus, this was quite a childish act but she enjoyed that she won this round, "Rousseau's please, Elijah."

"Of course," he nodded his head slightly towards his brother before walking past him, his silence and internal anger had returned, he abhorred being undermined, especially by his family but logic told him that if he tried to argue, he'd lose Elena more than he already was.

They exited the plantation and jumped in the car, Elijah had insisted on driving considering how severe the weather was; Elena knew she shouldn't have caused more trouble between her and Klaus, especially considering how much they where struggling as it is but he needed to realise she wasn't his puppet.

"Elijah?" She turned her attention the eldest sibling, watching as he drove effortlessly, even through the blankets of rain, "what's going on with Klaus?"

"I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean, Elena," she could tell her was lying through his teeth, this was all growing very tiresome.

"Why is Klaus acting like this? I can handle mood swings and vampire-related outbursts but completely ignoring me and being deceitful, no, I can't handle that," she shook her head slightly, turning her gaze to front window, the wipers where thrashing from side-to-side, she couldn't see a thing, probably best she hadn't drove herself,

"He goes through these phases, he has temper tantrums and periods of withdrawal," his answers where short and simple, anything to avoid the main point.

"I don't believe that," she closed her eyes for a quick second, holding back her frustration, "and it's not just Klaus, you're doing the exact same to me, you haven't even looked me in the eye since we left the house, either someone tells me what is going on now or I'm going to find out for myself and I can be quite good at snooping around where I'm not supposed too."

"Elena-"

"Stop the car," she interjected, refusing to let him argue with her.

"I'm not stopping the car, it's too dangerous," he kept his voice calm and collected but also firm, he felt like he was starting to lose.

"I'm sure I can handle a bit of rain, let me out of the car," she undone her seatbelt and turned to look at him, his gaze leaving the road for a long moment to look at her; he had avoided eye contact so he couldn't see her pain, he completely softened, "fine, have it your way."

She opened the car door, the rain starting pouring in the second there was a gap; Elijah slammed on the brakes and used his speed to exit his side of the car and appear next to hers, he slammed the door shut and returned to his seat, switching the engine off and turning to face her.

His suit was wet and his hair glistened withered the raindrops had attached, he turned his body to face her and locked his gaze onto hers, "I can't tell you much."

"Just tell me something," she exasperated, her patience completely gone.

"You are right, there is a new threat, an extremely dangerous and cunning enemy from our human lives," he started, his voice low and his body language on high alert, "I cannot tell you who they are and what they are planning but I can tell you they have us stuck in a desperate situation, Klaus more so than anyone, you have to be patient and trust us."

"What desperate situation, Elijah? Let me help," she pleaded with him, her concern growing by the second.

"If I were to tell you, I would be endangering your life more so than I already have and I cannot put you in harms way my further, you're too important," his voice broke and she could hear the emotion in his tone, she knew he was risking a lot by being honest with her but she couldn't help but feel she was left with more questions than answers.

"Why am I so important?" Her voice was a little louder than before, she was sick of hearing how important she was but made to feel so small.

"Because I care about you, Elena," he paused for a long moment, realising how abrupt that came out, "we all do, you're a part of our family now, you haven't just been Klaus' redemption but all of ours, you don't realise how important you are and have been to each of us, even Kol, he's never gotten along with anyone."

She laughed slightly at his words, the tension between them lifting; her cheeks turned a slight shade of red at his words, "I care about you all too, I'd do anything for this family... but I still feel like I'm missing something."

"We're doing this because we care about you, this family can't lose you, it's important you just act as normal as possible around Klaus, it's essential what he is doing."

She locked her eyes onto his, searching for any sign of dishonesty or doubt within them but she found nothing, only that his eyes sparkled in the moonlight; the conversations they had brought them just that a little bit closer, she had the greatest of respect for the eldest brother and she appreciated him.

"Thank you for being honest with me, Elijah, at least, the best you could be," she turned to face the windscreen once more and buckled herself in, "let's go home."

He nodded his head and switched the engine back on, shooting her a kind smile before they took off; she watched the rain dance on the window beside her, she was somewhat relieved to have more information but she became fearful of what Klaus was doing to ensure the safety of his family.

The drive seemed to go by quickly, they hadn't drove far, it just seemed like it because of the rain and the darkness, it's hard to see where you're going when all you can see is sheets of rain.

When they arrived back at the plantation, they both ran from the car and into the house as quickly as possible to avoid becoming drenched; they laughed slightly when they got inside, his blazer was soaked and they where acting somewhat childishly.

She removed her coat and hung it over the living room door to dry out properly and her bag was tossed onto the sofa, Elijah turned to face her once he had removed his jacket and tie, whilst he was unbuttoning the top button, he spoke, "you should get some sleep, Elena, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah, I'm beat, goodnight, Elijah," she smiled softly towards him before heading towards the stairs, she turned back to glance at him one last time before she went to bed; his eyes met hers and she just waved her hand slightly, mouthing 'goodnight' once more before proceeding up the stairs.

She slowly walked towards her bedroom, taking a deep breath before quietly entering the room; all the lights where switched off and all she could hear was the rain tapping against the window, she glanced over Klaus who appeared to be sleeping; she grabbed herself one of his t-shirts from the chest of drawers and slipped into it quickly, she lay down on the bed beside him, her mind racing with confusion and guilt.

"Are you awake?" She whispered, placing her hand on his chest and moving it gently in attempt to rouse him; when there was no answer, she propped herself up on her arm to look down at him, "I'm sorry about our fight earlier, even if you are sleeping, I have to say it, you mean more to me than anything in this world and I trust you completely."

He was still and his eyes remained closed; she placed a soft kiss on his cheek and cupped her hand around his jaw, taking in every inch of his face, she missed his touch and his lips against hers, she was saddened by the distance between them, "I love you, Klaus."

It was silent for a few moments, just as she was about to give up, his hand moved onto hers and caressed her skin; he tilted his head towards her, his eyes filled with sadness as he locked onto her gaze, he sat up and speaking in a hushed tone, "I'm trying to be strong, Elena, I need to be, so I can keep you safe."

"Don't be strong, just for a moment, be weak," she neared her face to his, pulling herself up onto her knees to be level with him; she brushed her lips against his cheek slowly and he could hear her heart beat faster, his matching hers.

Her lips trailed along his skin until they reached his, her hands now cupping his face; his eyes watched her carefully, taking in her beauty and the soft touch of her lips, he was trying with all of his strength to resist her but his head wasn't in this argument, it was his heart and it always won in the end. He grabbed gently onto the back of her head and pulled her into him, his lips crushing against hers with as much passion and heat as he could put into it.

Days of not being able to touch her or even speak to her all came flurrying to the surface and it crashed into the kiss, all he could hear was her heart race and it hurt him more than it couldn't last, not even for a moment longer, he had to break the kiss, his head lingering near hers just for a little minute longer.

"No, don't stop," she whispered against his lips and moved as close to him as she could be, there bodies pressed against each other; his arm slid around her back and went up her t-shirt, he inhaled a short breath, he knew he shouldn't be doing this, not after everything that has happened but he loved her and he couldn't hurt her, not anymore than he already has.

"Elena-"

She crashed her lips onto his, her lips parting and allowing there tongues to massage against each others, she climbed onto his lap and wrapped her legs around his back; she felt she had waited so long to just be in his arms, the place she felt most loved and most safe.

His fingers traced along every inch of her body, as if they where getting to know her all over again, he was slow and gentle with her, which made her body ignite and a heat rise within her; her hands smoothed down his chest and along his waist, her nails digging slightly when he felt the area under her breasts.

She slowly pulled the t-shirt over her head and tossed it to the ground, the only barrier left was there underwear; she could feel his erection against her black laced panties and pushed herself further against him. A small groan escaped his lips as she rubbed against him, he used his speed to lay her on her back and remove his underwear, leaving him completely bare, she wrapped her legs around his back and pulled him back into her, there lips meeting once more.

Sliding his hand up her thigh, his fingers trailed along her most sensitive area and he could feel her heat through her panties; he tore them in two and threw them to the floor, his fingers sliding between her walls. She clenched slightly as her body began tingle, her area becoming more moist the more he played with her.

He brought his lips to her stomach and placed soft kisses all along her skin, his hands moving up towards her hips and gripping her tightly, her small moans encouraging him further; he buried his head between her legs and glided his tongue across her walls, he rocked her hips into him, his tongue colliding with her clit. A loud moan escaped her lips at the pleasure erupting within her, her back arched and her hands where grasping at the sheets beside her.

She could feel herself building up to climax, his tongue flicked and massaged her clit and moved over her entrance, the more he felt her writhe, the more he pulled her hips into him; her area began to throb and her body tingled, her legs clung to him harder when she came, unable to control the moans that escaped her lips repeatedly.

He towered his body over her and pressed his lips onto hers once again, her legs entangling with his and her arms clinging around his neck; he kissed every inch of her face, mesmerised by the feel of her skin against his and her warm lips on his, he pressed his manhood against her and teased her entrance.

She was ready to explode from the pleasure, without breaking there kiss, she pulled them both up and sat herself on his lap again, her body crushing against his and her hands tussling through his hair; she couldn't take it any longer and neither could he, she slowly slid herself onto him, his full length inside her and loud moans eliciting from there lips simultaneously.

His hands moved down her back and onto her waist, rocking her slowly and gently to match her movements; she lifted herself on him over and over again, her sex clenching around him with the more friction between them. This time was different, there intimacy was slower and more passion fuelled then there previous encounters, he just wanted to be near her in every way possible.

She buried her head in his shoulder for a long moment and bit down on her lip to stop the continuous moans that escaped her lips the more he thrusted into her; she placed her hands on his shoulders and slowly guided him back, laying him flat whilst she straddled his waist, her body pressed onto his and her breasts rubbing against him. She bounced her hips onto him forcefully, a loud groan escaping his lips as she dug her nails into his arms.

There breathing was becoming heavier and there a glistening layer of sweat enveloping there bodies, Klaus used his speed to take control, laying her on her back and entering her once again, he smoothed his hand up her arm until he reached her hand, intwining there fingers and moving it above her head; they where getting close, her legs instantly wrapped around him and she pushed him into her with force, her body starting to tingle once more as she started to reach her climax. He buried his erection within her, a loud groan emerging from his lips as he erupted inside her, his head landing just above her breasts.

They remained together for a couple of minutes before he lay down beside her, Elena remained still, trying to catch her breath and collect herself but she was on a whole other level of pleasure, her body was on fire. Klaus moved his hand towards her face, his fingers trailing across her cheek and along her jawbone, she turned to face him, a small smile curling up on her lips, "that was perfect."

"You're perfect," he spoke quietly, his gazing eyes filled with only love; she turned onto her side, nestling into him.

"I never want this night to end," she admitted, as much as she tried to push the sadness of losing him away, it crept back, it was hard to enjoy a moment of calm when she knew this was probably the last time for a while they could be so close, "I don't want it to go back to the way it was."

Klaus was quiet, he didn't know what to say, he wanted to comfort her and be with her but he knew spending the night together was dangerous enough, she didn't know what they had risked, even he wasn't sure what the consequences would be.

She sat up slightly, locking her eyes onto his and cupping his face, "are we going to get through this?"

"I want nothing more than to be here beside you and holding you, I need us to get through this, I can't lose you," his voice broke, the sadness overwhelming him, "I love you, Elena, no matter what."

"I love you too," she placed her lips onto his, indulging in a heated and passionate kiss, probably for the last time.
