An: So, for my new Molly x Libby one shot, I decided to try something different as this would be a little darker than my usual story. Thank you for ready my new story and I hope you would enjoy it!

Is This Our Last Goodbye

Today is an exciting day for Libby Stein-Torres! A few days ago, Libby's girlfriend, Molly asked her out on their first date together. She had never felt so excited in her life. Libby had been together with Molly for several months and she cherished every moment they spent together.

As she waited for Molly to show up, Libby helped her mom out at their bookshop, Book Marks the Spot. Libby spent this time organizing the books on the shelves.

"I'm so happy for you, Libby!" Mrs. Stein-Torres said as she was carrying a stack of books. "You must be so excited to be going on your first date with Molly!"

"I am, Mom!" Libby replied. "Molly promised me that she was going to give me the best date ever!"

"Aww! That's so sweet! Have I ever told you that I think you and Molly are perfect for each other?" Mrs. Stein-Torres asked.

Libby giggled. "Yes! This is only the hundredth time you told me!" Libby soon took a glance at a nearby clock and noticed how late it was getting. "That's strange. Molly and I talked to each other on the phone a couple of hours ago. I thought she would have showed up by now."

"Don't worry, Libby! I'm sure Molly will be here soon!" Mrs. Stein-Torres assured her daughter.

Right as she said that, Mrs. Stein-Torres heard her phone ring. She soon put the stack of books on a table before picking up the phone. The name on the caller ID showed that Molly's mother, Sharon was calling her. Mrs. Stein-Torres accepted the call before putting the phone up to her ear.

"Hello, Sharon! How are you?" Upon hearing the name of her girlfriend's mother, Libby glanced towards her mother, curious. The once cheerful smile of Libby's mom soon faded and was replaced by an expression of shock. "I'm sorry, what happened to Molly?" As she listened to the conversation, Libby knew that something was wrong and started to get concerned. "Sharon, please calm down!" There was another pause before Mrs. Stein-Torres gave a silent nod. "Okay, we'll be there soon! Bye!"

Once the call ended, Libby sent a concerned glance towards her mother and decided to ask what was wrong.

"Mom? What's going on? Is Molly okay?"

Mrs. Stein-Torres opened her mouth to speak, but hesitated. As hard as it was to break the news to her daughter, Mrs. Stein-Torres knew that Libby would find out eventually.

"Libby, I got a call from Molly's mother. She told me that Molly is in the hospital."

Shocked by what she heard, Libby started to get worried for her girlfriend before she found her voice. "Wh-What?"

"It seems that on her way here, Molly got hit by a car and she is now in a coma."

Libby couldn't believe what she was hearing. Today started off so wonderful and now it just turned into a nightmare. Molly was in a coma and Libby had no idea what to do about it.

Libby, more worried than ever faced her mom before she said, "Please take me to Molly! She needs me!"

Without giving it a second thought, Mrs. Stein-Torres nodded as she closed the shop early and got in the car with her daughter. Wasting no time, Mrs. Stein-Torres drove to the hospital as fast as she could.

After the car was parked at the front of the hospital, Libby and her mother rushed inside the hospital, where they met up with Molly's family. Just as Libby would have expected, they were all worried for Molly. Despite the situation, the family smiled at Libby and her mom, grateful that they showed up.

"Mr. and Mrs. McGee, how is Molly doing?" Libby asked, concerned for her girlfriend.

"We don't really know." Pete let out a depressed sigh. "The doctors would be here soon to tell us what is going on."

"Oh, Molly! Why did this have to happen to her?" Sharon tried her best not to cry.

At that moment, Mrs. Stein-Torres walked over to Sharon before giving her a comforting hug. "Oh, Sharon! I'm so sorry!"

As Sharon silently sobbed, Libby decided to give them some space as she at down in a nearby chair. After a few moments, she was soon approached by an old woman, who she assumed was Molly's grandmother.

"Ah, you must be Libby. I am Molly's grandmother, Nin." she introduced herself.

"It's nice to meet you ma'am!" Libby replied.

"I have heard a lot about your relationship with my granddaughter! She talked about how you always keep her happy!"

As she heard that, Libby started to tear up slightly before wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater. "She really said that?"

Nin nodded. "She did. I can tell that you are really special to her!" Despite her happy smile, Libby could tell that Nin was trying her best not to cry as well.

It wasn't long before Nin left and Libby waited some more in the silent room. She looked over to the side to see Molly's brother, Darryl sitting right next to her. Just like the rest of Molly's family, Darryl appeared distraught by the recent events.

"Darryl? How are you feeling?" Libby asked Molly's brother.

"I'm fine, Libby." Darryl sniffed, obviously trying to hide his sadness. "If there's anyone who's not okay, it's Scratch. He's devastated over what happened to Molly!" Darryl pointed towards Scratch, who was floating in a corner of the room. "I think you should talk to him."

As she took notice of Scratch, Libby knew that he needed someone to comfort him. Knowing that her mom was the only one who wasn't aware of Scratch's existence, Libby sneaked over to the corner of the room very quietly before she decided to speak to the ghost.

"Scratch, are you okay?"

"No, I'm not." Scratch spoke in an angered tone without even turning to face Libby. "I'm guessing you already found out what happened to Molly. She was on her way over to see you when she suddenly got hit by a drunk driver. The man who hit her ended up getting caught and arrested." Scratch soon turned around, revealing his angered expression. "After what he did to Molly, that's not good enough!" Scratch suddenly yelled, causing Libby to jump back in shock. "I swear, if I ever find him, I'm going to haunt his nightmares for all eternity!" Upon noticing how scared Libby looked, Scratch calmed down. "S-Sorry. This is just a lot to take in!"

"I know, Scratch! Everything is going to be okay!" Libby said before she gave him a hug.

It was at that moment when the doors opened and a doctor entered the room. Everyone stood up as they approached the doctor for answers.

"What is happening to Molly? Is she going to be okay?" Sharon started to tear up.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. McGee, but your daughter isn't doing so well. It seems that she would need to stay here for several days at least." Molly's loved ones remained silent as they tried to take in the bad news. "If you wish to visit Molly, please do so! I'm sure that she would want to be with her friends and family at the moment."

Wasting no time, everyone hurried over to the hospital room where Molly was at. They opened the door to find Molly unconscious in a hospital bed. Molly was covered in bandages and had all kinds of plugs and wires attached to her. Just the sight of seeing her girlfriend in such a terrible state made Libby want to throw up.

Sadden by what happened to Molly, the McGees surrounded her bed. Despite her unconscious state, Molly's family did everything they could to assure her that everything was going to be alright.

After a few minutes of comforting her daughter, Sharon turned to Libby and asked, "Libby, is there anything you would like to say to Molly?"

"I would. Thank you, Mrs. McGee."

Gathering up her courage, Libby walked up towards Molly's bed before taking a closer look at her. It broke her heart to see Molly like this. Molly had always been so kind and caring to everyone and she didn't deserve something like this to happen to her. As she was fighting the urge to cry, Libby opened her mouth to speak.

"H-Hi Molly. It's me, Libby! I know that things seem bad right now, but I promise that you are going to be fine." It was at this point when Libby's voice started to crack as she was getting closer to breaking down every passing second. "I don't know when, but someday, I know that you would wake up, and we'll be together again! I promise!"

Before Libby could say another word, a doctor walked into the room. "I'm really sorry to interrupt, but visiting hours are over. I have to ask all of you to leave."

"What?" Libby gasped in shock. "But I can't leave yet! There is still so much more that I need to say to Molly!"

Mrs. Stein-Torres soon walked up to her daughter before placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Libby, we need to let Molly get her rest. I promise that we will see her again soon." As much as it pained her to do this, Mrs. Stein-Torres reluctantly grabbed Libby's hand as she pulled her away.

"No! Please don't take me away from her!" Libby begged as she could no longer stop the tears from running down her face. "I can't just leave Molly like this! She needs me! Molly!" Libby desperately tried to reach her hand over to Molly as she was dragged further away.

It broke her heart to see her daughter break down like this, but Mrs. Stein-Torres knew that she didn't have much of a choice. She soon started to tear up as well as she reluctantly dragged Libby out of the room.

After returning home for the hospital, Libby went to bed early. As she laid in her bed, Libby found it hard to fall asleep because Molly was all she could think about. Even when she was able to sleep, she ended up having nightmares of Molly dying in her hospital bed. Libby laid in her bed for what felt like forever before the sun rose.

As Libby woke up, she simply sat down on her bed as she was silently hoping that Molly would be okay. That was when her bedroom door opened and she heard the voice of her mother.

"Libby? Would you like to come downstairs and eat some breakfast?" Mrs. Stein-Torres asked.

"I'm not hungry." Libby sadly replied, without even turning to face her mother.

Deep down, Mrs. Stein-Torres knew that Libby was still mad at her for what happened yesterday. Not wanting to upset her daughter any further, she decided to leave her alone for now. Mrs. Stein-Torres closed the door and just when Libby thought she was alone, she suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"Libby." Startled by the voice, Libby looked up to see a familiar ghost.

"Scratch? What are you doing here?"

"Um, no reason. The McGees are still upset over what happened yesterday. It is way too depressing at the McGee household even by my standards, so I just thought I'd hang out somewhere else." Scratch explained.

"Is that really why you came here?" Libby asked in suspicion.

Seeing that he was found out, Scratch gave a defeated sigh. "Okay, I may or may not have come here just to see how you are feeling! Look, I know that we are both worried about Molly, but I'm sure that she'll come back to us! She just has to!"

Libby nodded in agreement. Thinking back, this wasn't the first time Libby had to deal with the possibility of losing Molly forever. Back when Libby and Scratch were fighting over who should be Molly's best friend, Molly nearly got herself killed when she got trapped in a compost machine. It took Libby and Scratch to settle their differences to save Molly, but unlike that time, Libby has no idea how she will be able to save Molly this time.

"Scratch, I'm scared!" Libby confessed. "I know that we were able to save Molly's life that one time, but I don't think we'll be able to save her this time. What if she's never going to wake up?"

"She's going to wake up!" Scratch assured. "We both know Molly and she is strong enough to get through this. She's just way too stubborn to give up on her friends and family that easily!"

For the first time today, Libby smiled, grateful for Scratch's words. "Thanks, Scratch! I'll be honest. When I first met you, I really didn't like you that much, but I can now see why Molly considers you to be one of her best friends!"

Scratch chuckled. "I can say the same about you, kid! When you and Molly first became girlfriends, I honestly didn't get what she saw in you, but after seeing you two together for so long, I suppose she could have done worse!" Scratch joked, earning a laugh from Libby.

Even though she was still worried about Molly, talking with Scratch helped Libby feel a little better. Her smile soon faded before she decided to ask Scratch a question.

"Scratch, I know that we are not as close to each other as we are with Molly, but can you please promise me something?"

Scratch didn't like the sound of that. He never had been the kind of ghost who kept promises, but considering it was a promise for Molly's other bestie, he might as well hear her out.

"And what promise is that?"

"If by some chance Molly doesn't make it and-" Libby paused as she chose her next couple of words very carefully. "If Molly ends up joining you in the afterlife, I want you to promise me that you will take care of her. It will bring me comfort knowing that Molly would at least be with her other best friend!"

It was at that moment when Scratch started to get emotional. He started to tear up, but quickly turned away so Libby wouldn't see.

"I-I promise." Scratch choked as he did his best not to cry. "Listen, I should really get back to the McGees."

Right before Scratch left, Libby called out for him one more time. "Scratch, before you leave, I want to thank you for coming here. I know that you only came here to make me feel better, even if you won't admit it. If you ever want to talk to me, just know that I'll be here for you."

Scratch stayed silent for a few moments and said, "Thanks, kid!" before floating out of the window.

For the past couple of days, Libby spent everyday she could visiting Molly in the hospital. Every time she looked down on Molly's motionless body, Libby silently hoped that Molly would wake up and everything would go back to the way that should be.

After several days of visiting the hospital, Libby began to lose hope. One morning, Libby ate breakfast with her mother. Even though she was able to eat again, Libby still couldn't stop thinking about Molly.

"Mom?" Libby suddenly spoke up, gaining the attention of her mother.

"Yes, Libby?"

"Do you think that Molly will ever wake up?" Libby asked.

Mrs. Stein-Torres nodded. "I'm sure that she will! I'm not sure when she will wake up, but when she does, I know that she will be happy to see you again. After she wakes up, I know that you two would go on your first date together, just like you wanted!"

Libby sniffed as she started to feel a little better. She couldn't help but smile at her mom, grateful that her she did everything she could to make her feel better. Suddenly, the phone started to ring, so Mrs. Stein-Torres rushed over to the counter to pick up her phone.

"Hello?" Mrs. Stein-Torres listened to whoever she was speaking to for a few moments before letting out a terrified gasp. "What? Are you sure?" Libby listened in on what her mom was saying and just knew that it had something to do with Molly. "But you can't do that! There has to be another way!" Mrs. Stein-Torres was about to argue some more when she was interrupted. She listened for a few moments before she replied, "I-I understand. We will be there soon."

With that, Mrs. Stein-Torres put down the phone. She tried to avoid eye contact with her daughter as it looked like she was about to cry.

"Mom, who was that? Is this about Molly? What happened to her?" As Libby asked her that, Mrs. Stein-Torres opened her mouth to speak, but couldn't find the words. "What happened to Molly?" Libby repeated as she began to cry. "Please tell me that Molly is going to be okay! Tell me, dammit!"

As Libby said that, Mrs. Stein-Torres stared at her daughter in shock. This was the first time she ever heard Libby curse. Once she realized what she said, Libby started to feel guilty for talking to her mom like that.

"Mom, I-I'm sorry." Libby apologized "I'm just really scared. Please tell me what happened to Molly."

"Libby, I just got a call from one of the doctors. He said that Molly has been feeling worse. She is in pain right now, so the doctors are-" Mrs. Stein-Torres fought back her tears as she spoke once more. "The doctors are considering pulling her plug."

Libby's eyes widened in horror as she heard that. "Are you saying that Molly is going to die?"

Libby felt as though her whole world was breaking apart. With no idea on what to do anymore, Libby collapsed to the floor as she broke now, crying. Seeing her daughter this distraught was too much for Mrs. Stein-Torres to bear. She hugged Libby tightly, who in turn hugged her back.

Despite how strong she tried to be for her daughter, it was hard for Mrs. Stein-Torres not to cry as well. Molly had also been a nice girl and done everything she could to make Libby happy. She didn't deserve to die in such an awful way. Deep down, Mrs. Stein-Torres was angry that life would be cruel enough to take Molly away from Libby just like that.

Once they both calmed down, Libby and her mother got in the car as they drove back to the hospital. They hurried over to Molly's room, where Molly's parents were yelling at one of the doctors, while Darryl was starting to cry, leaving Nin to comfort her grandson.

"Mr. and Mrs. McGee, please try to understand." The doctor tried to reason with them.

"Understand? What is there to understand? You are sending out daughter to death!" Pete yelled.

"We brought Molly over here because we trusted you to save her life! Now, we find out that you are going to pull her plug and let her die! I am not going to let you do such a thing to my daughter!"

Before Sharon could argue anymore, Nin walked up to her before placing a comforting hand on her daughter's shoulder.

With a sad look, Nin said, "Sharon, Molly's time has come. We need to let her go."

"Nin, how could you say such a thing! This is your granddaughter we are talking about!" Pete yelled as he couldn't believe what his mother-in-law just said.

Despite how angry Pete was with her, Nin still kept her voice calm. "Calm yourself, Peter. Please understand that Molly is suffering. We need to let her rest in peace."

As much as she wanted to argue as well, Libby knew that Molly wouldn't want to live in pain, so the next thing Libby said hurt her more than she could possibly imagine.

"Mr. and Mrs. McGee, she is right." The family started at Libby in shock. She was the last person they expected to agree with this. "Molly is suffering and we can't let her go through that! W-We need to say goodbye to her."

Despite what she said, Libby secretly wished that there was still a way to save Molly, but she knew that Molly wouldn't want to live like this. It was at that moment when the family realized that there was no other choice.

Once he knew that everyone made their decision, the doctor said, "I'll just leave to let you say goodbye to Molly. Please, take all the time you need."

Everyone soon entered Molly's room, where they found her laying on her bed once again. Molly looked much worse from when Libby last saw her. Darryl was the first to say goodbye as he approached his sister.

"Molly, it looks like this is going to be the last time I would talk to you. I know that I've been a bit of a troublemaker and I always ended up annoying you, intentional or not. Despite that, you never stopped loving me. I want to thank you for never giving up on me!" Darryl stopped talking for a moment to wipe the tears from his eyes. "I l-love you and I couldn't have asked for a better sister!"

Once Darryl said his goodbye, the adults surrounded Molly's bed as they were ready to say their goodbyes now.

Sharon, who looked so close to breaking down, decided to speak first. "Oh, Molly! We wish that there was another way, but you don't have to worry. Soon, you won't be in anymore pain. We just want you to know that we love you and we are proud of the person you grew up to become!"

Unable to contain her sadness anymore, Sharon hugged Pete tightly, sobbing loudly. That was when Pete decided that he should speak next.

"Molly, you have meant so much to all of us! You have changed our lives for the better and we are so proud to have a wonderful daughter like you!" Pete teared up as he continued comforting his wife.

"And I am so happy to have a wonderful granddaughter like you as well. I couldn't be more proud." Nin said with a soft smile.

Soon, Mrs. Stein-Torres walked up to Molly. "Molly, before you go, I want to thank you for everything you have done for my daughter. I'm sure that Libby couldn't have asked for a better girlfriend and I always considered you a part of the family." Mrs. Stein-Torres soon turned to her daughter and said, "Libby, is there something you wanted to say to Molly as well?"

Libby nodded. "There is, but can I please have a moment alone with her?"

Knowing that this was a hard moment for Libby, everyone left the room to leave her alone. Little did they know that Libby wasn't alone. Floating right beside her was Scratch as he stared at Molly in sadness.

"Scratch? Would you like to speak to Molly now? I'm sure that she would want to see you." Libby explained.

Scratch gave a silent nod before floating over to Molly. At first he didn't know what to say because he never was good at these emotional moments. Despite that, he was still going to try.

"Um, heya, Moll! Libby insisted that I come over to see you, so I thought that I might as well so she won't get anymore upset than she already is." Scratch gave a forced smile, despite how much he wanted to cry. "You know, when I first met you, I thought you were some annoying kid, but after all the time we spent together, I'm happy to call you my best friend! You really made my afterlife better and you made me proud to call myself a McGee." Seeing Molly's unconscious body made it more difficult for Scratch to speak, but he still continued. "Everything is going to be alright, Molly. You will soon join me in the ghost world and we will be best friends for all eternity, just like you wanted! Despite that, it's just not fair that something like this had to happen to you!" It was at this point when Scratch didn't bother fighting back his tears anymore. "Darn it, Molly! You weren't supposed to join me in the afterlife this soon! You're only 13! You had your whole life ahead of you! If I could have saved you, things probably would have turned out differently!"

As Scratch sobbed, Libby walked over to him and gave him a comforting hug.

"Scratch. It's going to be okay."

After comforting Scratch, Libby walked over to Molly's bed. She took a deep breath before holding on to Molly's hand.

"Molly, I don't know if you can hear me, but before I say goodbye to you, I just want to tell you how much you've meant to me. Before I met you, I wasn't good at making friends, but you were willing to be my friend when nobody else would be. After all the time we spent together, you always did whatever it took to make me happy, whether it was giving me the best Bat Mitzvah ever, helping me gain confidence in myself, and being the best girlfriend ever. Molly, you're the best friend I could ever ask for!" As she started to cry, Libby closed her eyes before tightening her grip on Molly's hand. "I love you, Molly!"

Suddenly, a hand tightened around her own. Libby opened her eyes to see that it was Molly's hand. Molly's eyes slowly opened as she gazed at Libby.

"L-Libby?" Molly spoke up.

"Molly?" Libby gasped upon seeing Molly regain consciousness.

At that moment, Molly's eyes opened up completely as she smiled at Libby. "Libby, it's you!"

Unable to contain her joy, Libby hugged Molly in tears. "You're back!"

Scratch soon realized what was going on and floated over to Molly in excitement.

"Molly!" Scratch immediately hugged Molly as well, much to her surprise.

"Wow, Scratch! Usually I'm the one who hugs you first!" Molly laughed.

Scratch chuckled before he replied, "Well, just don't expect it to be a regular thing. Still, I would be lying if I didn't say I missed you."

"I missed you too, Scratch!" Molly replied.

"You two just wait right here and I'll get the rest of the family!" Scratch said before he flew out of the room.

As Scratch left, Molly and Libby were left alone in the room. Libby wiped the rested of the tears from her eyes, happy that she was finally reunited with Molly.

"Oh, Molly! I thought I was going to lose you!" Libby sniffed.

"It's okay, Libby! I'm here for you now!" Molly raised a hand up to Libby's face before brushing away one last tear. "When I was laying unconscious in my hospital bed all this time, I struggled to to come back to everyone who care about me. To Mom, Dad, Darryl, Grandma Nin, Scratch, and especially you, Libby! Just when I was about to give up, I finally heard your voice and I came back to you."

It wasn't long before Scratch returned and everyone was overjoyed to find Molly awake.

"Molly!" Molly's family rushed over to her and hugged her in joy. She soon smiled, happy to be reunited with her family.

The doctor then rushed into the room, astonished by what he witnessed. "I don't believe it! This is a miracle!"

Tears of joy ran down Libby's face once she knew that Molly was going to be okay. Everyone had stayed by Molly's side for the passed couple of hours until visiting hours were over. As much as they didn't want to leave, Molly assured them that she was going to be fine. Libby was the last one to leave when Molly called out for her at the last second.

"Hey, Libby?"

Libby turned around. "Yes, Molly?"

"When I check out of this hospital, do you think we can have our first date for real this time?"

Libby nodded. "Yes! I would really like that! But only after you fully recover."

Molly smiled. "Okay then! It's a date!"

Libby smiled back before she said, "I love you, Molly!"

"I love you too, Libby!"

After saying goodbye to Molly, Libby walked back to the car with her mom. Libby put on her seatbelt before she felt tears of joy in her eyes.

Mrs. Stein-Torres noticed and asked, "Are you okay, Libby?"

"I'm fine, Mom!" Libby assured. "I'm just so happy that Molly is okay!"

"So an I! I just know that you and Molly are going to have a wonderful future together!"

Libby blushed as her mother said that. "Yes, I'm sure that we will."

With a smile, Mrs. Stein-Torres started the car before driving back home. Throughout the ride, Libby looked out the window. Once Molly finally gets out of the hospital, Libby was sure that they would have a wonderful date together. Until Molly makes a full recovery, Libby would always be there to watch over her.
