Prologue II: A chat

"Kuro Sterling"

While they were walking to the town, Yang relaxed at the name, something about it makes her more curious about Kuro, causing her to be less vigilant around him.

"Are you from Mistral?, I've heard similar names coming in Patch as tourists."

Even in this death world, people are still traveling, looks like this world is not as dangerous as he thought. Kuro thought it was convenient that he has an excuse to create a backstory, coming up of a story that might explain why he's not on any records, he said.

"Not exactly, I'm from a frontier village outside the capital, the name is from my parents being in different countr-kingdoms, so my mom is from Mistral, and my dad came from Vale. Sadly, the village was destroyed by Grimm and bandits."

Kuro's life on Earth is not the best one, struggling to make ends meet, just barely even having the money to buy for his hobbies, while his living expenses are paid by his scholarship. "Not that it will matter anymore." He thought. His parents were killed in an accident when he was young, causing him to be more reserved and consume fictional media to escape.

Kuro looks down at the thought of his parents, wondering what his life would be if they were there to support him, Yang noticed his predicament, feeling bad about it.

"Sorry for bringing up bad memories. We're cool though right?"

Kuro thought of his parents wishing him the best life, and even though there were not there for him throughout his early years, he was still glad that they were a part of his life. Shaking out the bad mood, he smiled.

"Yep, we're cool, it has been a long time since I've made peace with the fact, besides, living is the best way I could repay my parents."

Yang likes what she hears, feels a connection with Kuro, and thinks that he is lucky to have at least lived with his parents for a while, thinking about her mom, she feels sad before tucking the thoughts behind her head. Looking at Kuro's peaceful face, she felt a bit jealous but quickly turns it into a grin. It looks like he didn't notice her face.

Yang decided to steer the conversation to a better topic, so she wondered why Kuro is here.

"So what brings you to Patch, can't say you can make good money here, why not Vale?"

Besides the fact that he is on RWBY, Kuro is clueless regarding the life of this world aside from the info he got on the show. Since he had a decent backstory, he decided that it will be better to admit that he knows nothing about the outside world.

"About that, I don't know the world beyond the village, so I just traveled and asked some people that were passing through the safest place to settle down, so they recommended me this place, god knows I have too much excitement for my life. I also heard that Vale is getting unsafe due to rising criminal activity."

Yang is excited for Kuro to be living in Patch since he was not ogling at her when they met, and just walking beside her without being a pervert, thinking it would be great to make a male friend, she wonders if he has a reservation.

"Great! You'll love living in Patch. I understand that being a thrill-seeker isn't for everyone. Are you going to the hotel?"

Kuro absentmindedly replies.

"No, not really, I just got here a few hours ago."

Yang felt bad about bringing up bad memories for Kuro, so she thought it would be nice to invite him to the house, and maybe give him a good meal to apologize for it.

"Wanna come to the Xiao-Long house until you got a job? It's not a fancy hotel but it makes up for it with a good atmosphere and a nice view outside."

Kuro panics.

"WHAT! How did this turn to Yang inviting me into her house, THE house of the main character, oh god I don't want to be part of anything deadly. Maybe I should just run away, but Yang could easily catch me with this world's 'clearly not magic' aura."

At this point Kuro was screaming on the inside, his plans are already failing at the beginning. He doesn't mind living on the streets so that he couldn't meet more members of the main character's family, thinking of appropriate responses for refusal without making it sound rude.

"I wouldn't impose on such a generous offer Yang. Thanks but I'll find a place to .. OW"

Coughing for a bit, Kuro looks at Yang grinning at him, forcefully grabbing his arm so that he couldn't escape, Kuro is scared.

"Oh shut it, you'll be fine, aren't you happy going to a beautiful girl's house?"

Now that the subject is brought up, Kuro can't remember the last time he went to a girl's home, due to being more focused on his hobbies. Besides that, Yang is growing to what she would look like in the future. Blushing at her beauty, Kuro tries to escape.

"But" "Nope" "But" "Nope"

Looking at her smug face, Kuro knows he couldn't escape his fate, lamenting about his life, he relents.

"Fine, I'll stay for one night, then I'll find a place to sleep."

Yang nods knowing that is the best she could do, she was excited that even Kuro would be embarrassed about her holding him, which goes to show that even a boy like him could be affected by her charms.

"Alright!, so be careful with my dad, he doesn't really like boys hanging out with me or my sister, but I think you're cool enough. So there was this one time where…"

The two walk in the road, with Yang holding Kuro's arm to ensure that he doesn't escape, while Kuro is now screaming and lamenting about his fate.

In the forest where Yang and Kuro were earlier, a creature of dark nature comes into view, looks into the ground, finding marks that show human activity. While searching around the spot, the creature felt a pang of negative emotions, pointing its head towards the source. Growling and making noises unnatural for an animal, the creature's eyes glow a crimson color, huffs, and puffs, running to the direction this emotion is coming from.

Author's Note:

Yay! Action scene coming soon. How will our dear pair handle it soon?

Anyways this is my first time writing a fanfic. Imagine my surprise that an adaptation of RWBY by Studio Shaft has been announced after a few hours I uploaded my fic. I'm feeling pretty hype.
