Prologue 3: Escape Start!
"And that's why Ruby is forbidden to use the oven until she is older"
Laughing at her story Kuro learned a lot about Yang, before he is still treating Yang as a character, but not her as a person. Kuro can see the difference between her and the character from the show, she is not as flirty as he thought she would be and was actually pleasant to converse with.
"How the hell did Ruby become socially awkward as she is in the show with Yang on her side? One of life's greatest mysteries I guess."
Kuro knew that the world he currently living in is real, but still can't help but treat it like it was a show, since it's the only source of knowledge he could rely on before experiencing more of this world. While Kuro is having an existential crisis he felt his phone vibrating in his pocket, taking it out he saw something that made him lose his composure.
[Notification: GadgetGabe left a message.]
Yang noticed him taking out his scroll-like device and was curious about it.
"That's a weird scroll. It looks like it belongs in a museum"
"Aha, gonna take this call. Be right back"
Excusing himself and going to a spot, Kuro opened his phone and read the message.
[I hope this message can reach the person transported in this world. I am Agent Smith, publicly known as GadgetGabe from a hidden organization focusing on otherworldly items and beings. A few hours ago I lost a peculiar device made with materials not natural on Earth. After activating the device it disappeared from my possession to what I'm assuming to your general location. A few minutes ago one of my devices detected an increased spike of dimensional energy in a 4-mile radius, I was close by at that time and rapidly ran towards the origin, I saw you moments before you were transported to whatever world you were placed in and ran into your workshop. Whatever you did to the device damaged it so badly that all of its components were turned into carbon, making the origin of this device untraceable. Sadly I wasn't able to track whatever world you were thrown into due to the interference of the world's will, but a bit of that dimensional energy remains, big enough that I could send a data packet containing this message and programs that will help you survive. I am sorry to say that it will be close to impossible for you to return back to Earth due to the rapidly increasing distance between your world and Earth. To alleviate any concerns you have, all of your debts will be paid in full by the government, and your closest relatives will receive a good life, letting them able to live without worries. I hope that reading this message will let you able to focus on your survival and not worry about Earth. Good luck. I hope some of the data is not corrupted when this message reaches you.]
Kuro is shocked that aliens and magic exist back on Earth and feels anger towards this Agent who sent him the box. Screaming profanities at the sky, he felt a change in his phone, looking at the display he saw.
[Message has been received, installing Radar. Success.]
The phone's home screen has now changed into a futuristic design, with the phone's previous data being compressed and new ones installed. An icon with a radar image popped up.
{Notice: detected faint traces of low-level origin energy (Magic)}
[Upgrading Radar to be able to detect beings of magical nature, Success]
A magical sign was added to the Radar icon.
[Installing Map, Success]
[Installing Translator, Success]
[Installing Journal. Success]
Three more apps have been installed, a map icon, a book icon, and a paper icon.
{Notice: Detected world's law of quintessence energy modified (Soul)}
[Modifying Phone to receive soul energy. Success]
[Phone can be charged using soul energy]
[Phone can now be stored in the soul.]
[Tethering Phone to owner's soul. Success]
A sign that depicts a soul has been added to the Radar. Kuro felt like his mind was having an itch that you can't find before it disappeared. Disorienting the boy.
[Phone is now connected to your soul. You can now remotely access the phone using your mind]
Kuro's vision is now riddled with warnings from the phone, even if the phone is not in his visual direction. The phone disappeared into motes of light, making him panic. Wishing for the display to go away, Kuro's vision is back to normal, and felt like his hand was grabbing something.
[Update: Radar can now detect beings with a soul]
Kuro saw Yang's soul through the Radar, moving in his direction. He is worried since Yang heard his screams.
[Detected corrupted package, starting backup restoration program. Success.]
[Completion time: 4 years, 3 days, 11 hours, 30 minutes]
What a coincidence that the package will be fixed at the start of the canon story Kuro thought. The phone blares out a warning sound.
[Warning! Darkness-type magical beings are closing in your position.]
Kuro saw multiple red dots closely approaching Yang's position. Kuro runs back towards Yang, trying to warn her about the Grimm. Halfway he saw the phone's display and scoffs at it.
[User level of combat: Civilian]
[Recommended action: Escape]
"LIKE HELL I WILL!"
Despite wanting to live a peaceful life. Kuro felt a connection with Yang for a short time and considers her to be a good friend, and Kuro doesn't abandon his friends.
"I won't let that accident happen ever again!"
Running through the bushes, scratching his arms and clothes, he saw Yang looking at him worriedly and reaching out to him. Kuro points his hand behind her and shouts.
"Yang behind you!"
As if that sentence was a signal, multiple beings jumped out of the trees and looks at the pair with rage, and promises their destruction. Kuro stares at the creatures, in the show they were called beowolves, and they look much worse than what is shown in Yxxtube, they are more realistic, the gross details that the show left out are fully displayed in the flesh. Looking like the pair's chances are slim, Kuro asks.
"Can you fight them, Yang?"
"I had a bit of training with my dad, but I can't handle this many Grimm yet. I was supposed to go to Signal Academy for more training this year. Kuro, get your stuff, and let's run away."
Yang is visibly shaking from fear, it looks like she is not combat-ready yet, kinda obvious since she is not as powerful as the one in the show, seeing the canon starts in a few years. And she is probably shaking due to a trauma in the past. The fear the pair is emitting is making the grimm more and more excited until a howl was heard and the grimm jumped towards them.
[Playing: Night of Nights (Flowering nights remix) - COOL&CREATE/beatMARIO]
At this point, the phone is playing music appropriate to the situation. Kuro thought that the phone has a sick sense of humor.
Seeing that the grimm are attacking, Yang and Kuro run towards Patch. The adrenaline is making Kuro calm down from fear as he deduces that they would be eaten before stepping foot in the town's wall. Kuro gambles.
"Yang! Can you call your dad to save us?"
Yang brings out her scroll and tries to call her dad.
"I can't! Something must've been blocking the range of the CCT tower and my scroll can't get a signal."
The gamble failed, looking around the path he notices objects that can be used to block the grimm's path.
"We need to buy time! Yang, can you do something to block their movement?"
Yang looks at the nearby trees and saw what she needed to do and grins at her plan.
"Oh, that? Easy! Just watch this."
Yang's arm glows with yellow light as she punches the trees, making them lumber down. The fallen trees crush some of the beowolves while the others jump, slowing them down.
"Looks like the grimm is Timbering down."
Laughing at the absurdity of the situation, Kuro is astonished to see the full effects of aura and complains.
"Man aura is such bullshit."
That much force would've broken a full adult's arm if it weren't for aura. Still, the grimm slowed down giving enough time for the pair to talk while running, breaking trees along the way.
"Well, that's what made humanity survive for a long time Kuro. Plus it gives me an aura of confidence. Just look at me!" Yang flexes her muscles, nearly crashing to a nearby tree.
Kuro rolls his eyes over the terrible pun. Seeing Yang joking around in this situation gives him a feeling of hope. After a few meters Yang notices that her scroll is connected, Yang quickly calls her dad.
A blonde middle-aged man with a rugged beard appeared on her scroll looking at Yang.
"What's up Yang?"
"Pant. pant. Funny story, me and Kuro are being chased by a group of beowolves for a while, and I only got a signal to be able to call you right now."
Yang's dad looks behind her and notices both Kuro and the chasing beowolves.
"We'll talk about you going too far to the forest young lady. And introduce me to your friend once I come over."
Yang placed her scroll in her pocket while calling out to Kuro.
"Kuro! My dad is coming. Also, I believe you gave him a bad impression."
"I saw, seeing you with a new person being chased by monsters generally gives you a bad impression, and I'm scared. Also, the beowolves are gaining on us now."
The grimm shows its terrifying nature as they noticed that the trees are blocking their way, so they ran around to prevent the pair from using the environment. Kuro didn't account for the grimm to be this smart.
"Breaking the trees doesn't work anymore Yang, they're running around."
Yang also notices the situation and gets more nervous from the implications this had.
"But grimm don't adapt that quickly. They must have an alpha with them!"
Kuro remembers from RWBY that older grimm can command younger ones making them more dangerous. He curses while understanding that the trees are now useless and instead of hindering the pair's path. He found a clearing where they could defend themselves for a while. Kuro calls for Yang to run towards the clearing. The pair prepares as they see the grimm approach them.
[Playing: Stopped]
"Looks like blocking their path worked, there are fewer of them now. Can you handle this many Yang?"
Compared to before, there are indeed fewer beowolves from the beginning. Yang feels confident about this situation
"Who do you think are talking to? I could delay them, but not enough time for dad. I also didn't bring my weapon with me, anything in your bag that could help us?."
Kuro brings out his bag of material and hurridly scavenges through it, the bag is full of silver wires, bronze wires, and some lead, but no power tools, or sharp objects. Kuro curses before he notices the silver utensils that he used for his midnight meal. Pulling out a silver tableware knife he throws it towards Yang. Catching the object, Yang complains to Kuro.
"Wha? A food knife? You can't fight grimm with this. You can only fight food with this junk."
Kuro regrets not picking the correct tools he had back at Earth but blames the box that he didn't have enough time to properly bring his tools.
"That's the only thing I have that could be used to stab something. Just give it aura so that it doesn't break easily"
Yang looks at Kuro as if he's an idiot.
"You idiot! Aura doesn't work that way, you can't surround aura to objects without proper training, and I haven't trained with aura manipulation that much."
Kuro learned something new about aura, without any options left he begged Yang to try it.
"Just try it! It's the only way we could survive."
Yang looks like she was to throw Kuro down a cliff but restrained herself to try surrounding the knife with aura.
[Playing: Fighting Impulse - Goblin Slayer]
"Alright. Don't say I didn't war.. Huh?"
Surprising the pair, the knife easily accepts Yang's aura as it changes its color as the same as Yang's aura.
Before the pair comments about the situation, a beowolf raised its claw towards Yang. Panicking Yang swiped the knife towards the arm of the monster, easily cleaving it into two. She was surprised that the seemingly normal tableware is capable of easily cutting grimm's flesh. Kuro looks like he is excited that silver has this kind of magical property. Yang, not complaining about the knife anymore, faces the group of beowolves feeling confident towards killing them
"We talk about this later. "
Kuro nods as he watches Yang in admiration fight the beowolves with ease, weaving through the attacks and destroying grimm one by one. Unfortunately a grimm bigger than Kuro seen before rushes to Yang's back hitting her with a force that created a small crater around Yang. The girl is surprised that she could handle that much damage without flinching but felt like her back was sliced ten times over. Crying in pain Yang heard Kuro saying something.
"It's the alpha! Yang hit it with everything you got!"
Yang spun around, seeing the alpha beowolf eye to eye. Pushing all of her aura towards the small knife, she unleashes a slash that shone like a yellow inferno towards the alpha, instantly vaporizing it on the spot, with the aftershock damaging the rest of the beowolves.
"Was that.. huffs ..my Semblance?"
Yang looks at the hand holding the knife as she falls to the ground, aura dimming but not shattered. Yang tries to move her body, failing to move as she wished. Looking at the surrounding beowolves closing towards her it looks like her father is going to be late. Yang closes her eyes, she hears Kuro coming next to her.
"NO! I won't let you hurt her!"
Yang knows that Kuro isn't a fighter, but a civilian settling down on Patch, he will definitely die if he tries to fight. Even with her body refusing to move, Yang calls Kuro to leave her so that he could be alive.
"I WON'T! Even when I'm weak I won't leave you behind. You are my first friend in this world. I promised my parents that I would live my best life, and that will never happen if I leave you behind so please let me protect you."
Hearing his plea Yang wishes that her aura would work faster on repairing her body, while Kuro picked up the small knife, now back to its silver state, shaking as he pointed it towards the grimm. As the grimm approaches, Kuro slashed at it wildly and clumsily that even the lucky hits couldn't harm the grimm.
The grimm strikes at Kuro, severely injuring him as he falls to his legs. Looking at Yang, it feels like this short time in RWBY was worth it.
"Even in a short time we met in this world I had fun Yang, it was a blessing of fate for me to meet with you. I hope you won't hate me for this."
Kuro closes his eyes. His mind blared with a warning.
[Warning! High-level soul individual approaching at high speed]
[Warning! Individual arriving in 5]
[4]
The grimm raises its arm. Ready to kill this weak individual. Disgusted by the positive emotion it was giving off.
[3]
The arm falls, dropping as if it was a guillotine, ready to execute the prisoner.
[2]
The grimm felt behind its back a strong soul, but it wouldn't stop for anything now.

"What an idiot. Good job kid."
Author's Note:
Did you like the chapter? I was going to give it a simple fight but the muse in me decided that it wasn't enough.
The phone's powers are inspired by 'Isekai with a smartphone' but the phone actually doing something useful.
Did you also notice? Silver has a special effect on RWBY. Inspired by the legends where werewolves and creatures of the night are damaged by silver metal. Something I wish RWBY canon would have.
Edit(3/28/22): Yang should've taken control of the situation due to family's hunter legacy, also mach 2 is a bit over the top
