Chapter 1: Discrepancy
After waking up, Kuro was faced with Yang smiling eerily, he imagined for a moment a scary figure behind Yang, it seems like he was still affected by the previous battle. He tries to calm her down, but was scolded for all the reckless things he had done so far, and assured him that she could have handled the battle herself. After she ran out of things (He learned new words today) to say Kuro was surprised at what happened next.
"Look, besides all the stupid things you have done in the forest. Thanks for saving my life."
Kuro was confused, thinking that she must've seen something wrong, Kuro says.
"What do you mean saved your life? I was minutes away from being grimm food in that forest if it weren't for you finding me Yang."
Yang reluctantly explains.
"You were actually fine if you walked to Patch that night, the grimm was too far away from the place you stumbled on. No, the reason we were attacked is…" Yang looks at the ground. "Because I was jealous of you. As you know, grimm are drawn by negative emotions, so when we were talking that night, I was jealous about you talking about your family."
"Yang if this is uncomfortable for you we could.."
"No, I should say it, it's bad to keep all this guilt inside, if I won't say it now, I may never admit it to you in the future. I have some problems regarding my parents"
"About your father? He seems nice…." Kuro remembers Yang's backstory. And keeps his mouth shut as Yang continues to say her story.
Yang explains to Kuro that Ruby and she are not actually from the same mother. Summer was the one who raised them up until she was killed by an accident, it was when Taiyang was drunk when she found out that Summer isn't her biological mother, but a woman named Raven Branwen, who abandoned her after birth.
"It was then when I made my biggest mistake. I found a location where Raven was last seen residing from. After waiting for dad to leave the house I brought young Ruby with me in a wagon and went there until I was bruised and tired from all the walking."
Kuro was be shocked to hear the following statements.
"When I reached the location on the map, we were attacked by three beowolves. Thankfully my dad found me just in time to kill the grimm and save us. That was when I realized that I shouldn't let my search consume me. "
Kuro thought he heard wrong so he clarified.
"Uhh.. didn't another person save you? Like, I dunno maybe an uncle?"
"Did you mean uncle Qrow? That drunk couldn't do anything if he tries. Sure he could've, but he was affected the most by my mother's death. Anyways that's the reason why I got jealous of you in the first place, you get to live with your mother. But mine died early and my other mom abandoned me when I was born. I blame myself for drawing out the grimm."
Kuro focuses more on Yang before speculating about those issues later.
"It's not your fault Yang, we can't help but think to ourselves the what if's, I was jealous too when I heard you are still living with your dad. Maybe I brought the grimm too. So that's why don't blame yourself for factors you cannot control."
Yang was relieved by his words before suddenly smiling and looking energetic, with her eyes being predatory.
"Now with the sappy stuff out of the way, You should come to the house when you're fully healed, I insist."
Kuro sweats and looks to the door, trying to escape from Yang he says.
"Haha, look here's my next check-up you don't wanna be bothering the doctor now are you Yang seeyabye."
Yang knows he's trying to refuse the offer, but can't really refute him at this time because there is a doctor coming to the room. Leaving the room, Yang looks back and declares."
"I'll be waiting for you to get out! You won't escape from me from giving you a party. I'm going to give you the best meal you'll ever have. Out with a Yang!"
Yang throws some confetti, creating a mess, before running away from the screaming doctor.
"These can be a hazard to the patient and the equipment! Kids these days."
Grumbling to himself, the doctor walks next to Kuro and examines him and the medical instruments, Kuro thinks about what just transpired.
"That's weird, this does not align with the story, if I remember, Qrow was the one who ended up saving the girls. If some of the info I'm relying on ends up wrong, how could I survive peacefully here? What if Patch gets attacked?"
The doctor just finishes their job and tells Kuro that he would be well and healthy.
"It seems there are no more complications regarding your body , you are expected to heal in two days, your belongings are on that table. However, if you feel any issues you can use this button next to the bed to call one of the nurses."
As the doctor leaves, Kuro looks at the nearby table and saw an apple with a 'Get Well Soon' card by Yang. After eating the apple, he looks at the clock just peacefully screaming at himself.
"Uwaaa.. What happened last night was so embarrassing. I never meant to be that brave. Yang was right I was stupid"
Cringing at himself for a while, he is beginning to be bored. As he was thinking about various things that happened to him, most recently about the dream.
"I ended up unlocking my aura in the dream world. I wonder how did I… That's right! The phone."
Kuro mentally shouts in his mind to summon the phone. Above his head, a small part of aura separates from him as it materializes into a phone, slowly falling into his hand. He looks amazed and immediately plays with summoning the device. He found out that he could summon his phone where he wants as long as it is near him. So he decides to get into a habit of taking out his phone from his pockets to make anyone not suspicious.
After playing with it for a while, Kuro decides to open the phone and found the system log, where all the technical stuff happens, a wall of text just appears in his mind, scaring him. Kuro immediately turns off the display on his vision while he reads through.
"I'll never get used to that. It kinda looks like a HUD like one of those shooting games."
Kuro found a section of logs marked a few hours ago when he was sleeping.

[Installing CCT Browser app. Success]
Going back to the home screen, Kuro notices a few new icons, before noticing a CCT icon. Tapping on the app, the interface looks like an old search engine used in the early days of the internet. Feeling happy that there's an internet-like service, he searches for information.
Kuro found that Remnant is under an unprecedented time of peace after the Great War, where the 4 kingdoms are formed. Atlas, Vale, Vacuo, and Mistral, plus the unofficial kingdom of the faunus, Menagerie which was given to them after the Faunus Revolution. During this current era, the establishment of science has been the main focus for the prosperity of humanity, where all forms of advancements have been made, especially the utilization of dust on machines, in agriculture, infrastructure, aeronautics, etc.
Its also been discovered as a good propellant for guns and fuel for airships. Kuro frowned at the over-reliance on dust and knew that there are better technologies that he could provide that don't need dust. Guns are heavily weaker here than the ones on earth, you can see the bullets with your bare eyes. Due to aura preventing any major damage from bullets, the importance of gun tech has been heavily decreased, opting for the big cannons for giant grimms. Guns are mainly used for suppression, whittling down aura, and picking on weak grimm. Guns can still kill people without aura, so proper training is needed to use one.
The advancements to space have been ignored once finding out that dust loses its power from exiting the atmosphere, preventing Remnant from creating a global communications array. Leaving them with Cross Continental Transmit System being the most advanced communications tech they have, being a recent creation for a few decades.
Due to grimm being attracted to negative emotions, the kingdoms heavily promoted a culture that bring happiness and satisfaction, and made laws to make sure that every person gets to live happily with whatever passion they wanted, books that describe wars and evils are still being published but are heavily shunned due to bringing fear. Sadly this doesn't prevent poverty, racism, and other problems from cropping up.
There have been no major wars after the Great War for fear of extinction, and so humanity doesn't have a countermeasure against themselves from internal fights. The council thought that redundant systems that prevent sabotage from humanity's technologies would be a waste of resources. Many systems like cybersecurity and the CCT technologies are susceptible to human interference but have never been a problem since no one wants to disable communications between continents.
Mecha-shift weapons have been gaining popularity after the Faunus Revolution, due to their amazing adaptability between ranged and melee options during combat between the Grimm and criminals.
Kuro found that compared to Earth's technologies, Remnant in some way does surpass Earth, mostly in clean energy, holographic and hard light tech, AI advancements, and melee weapons. He concludes that if the two worlds fight, Earth will inevitably destroy the other. Earth is too good at making weapons aimed to kill people, and aura doesn't really compete with long-ranged artillery or nukes.
This goes on until Kuro is distracted by cat videos on the net.
