It took a while, but Oscar managed to eventually get a ticket for Mistral. Thankfully, the train stations weren't all that full though it became clear that it wouldn't be for long. Seeing as Oscar noticed how more than a few people were trying to enter the station for tickets. Made sense, everyone was worried about the floating city. Last thing people wanted was to think they were safe, only to realize it was going to fall again. Thankfully, Oscar needed not to worry about that.
"My money." Instead, he's just worried about how much cash he'll have left once all this is done. Looking painfully at how much lighter his wallet is and the amount of Lien he had left in it. So much for buying that new book he wanted.
"Worry not Oscar." Ozpin then spoke to the depressed farm boy. "When all this is done, I'll be sure to get you this book you want."
"Uh…thanks." While a bit grateful, Oscar wasn't sure how to feel about an old man peeking at his thoughts. Creepy. Regardless, Oscar continued on as he then got onboard the train. It'll be a few hours, but eventually he and Ozpin will soon find themselves in Mistral. From there, they'll talk to Lionheart about what can be done and how they can move on. Because from what Oscar is aware of thanks to Ozpin, Salem will already be making her move. Whatever it will be.
Sitting down, Oscar relaxed himself and giving a good stretch to his limbs. Taking out his scroll, Oscar then placed it by his ear. "So," It was off. "What now?"
"For now, we wait." Using Oscar's little trick to speak and let people assume it's a normal conversation, Ozpin answered back. "For the time being, just relax and have a meal. It'll be some time before we meet Lionheart, so until then, do what you'd like."
"Neat." Oscar then checks around his area and sees a screen on the back of the seat in front of him. "Then may as well kill some time." Watching a few films didn't seem so bad, not to mention snacks as well. With that in mind, Oscar leaned back and hoped his food would get here soon. Grabbing a remote and tuning to the film, 'The Paladin Attack'.
"Order some popcorn. I heard the reviews on this were good." Ozpin then said.
"Sure." Oscar chuckled. "That'll be nice." Lets not forget the soda too.
While Oscar did that though, unknown to him and everyone else, a group of people could be seen in the station. One that attracted attention as they saw these people wearing the strangest of clothing. None that matched current fashion statements which made them look rather odd. Strange even.
"Look at those clothes." Which the very same people thought vice versa. Macarios himself noticed all the strange styles these humans and demi-humans had on. Some of them carried the strangest of weapons.
"Yeah." Another person with the 'young' Olympian nodded. "What kind of person carries a mace these days?"
"Their clothes are so colorful." A female Olympian noted with slight awe. Since pretty much all Olympians only wore the usual simple white colors and no more than that for the most part. Just another reason to go against those jerk ass Gods they had ruling over them.
"Uh-hu." The only grown-up (physically) of their group just gazed at the buildings. "Maybe it makes up for their lack of technology. I mean, where's the service center? The guard bots?"
"Things do seem…primitive." By a lot from what the girl could tell. Just how did these people survive without such technology? It made no sense.
"Now I wish I studied history more." Nods all went around. Many of them have really bothered with history. Or, well, if they did, it's probably been centuries for them to remember anything that they have learned. Still, they took pictures of the area they're in. Excited to see so many new things on their trip to this backwater town and how the faithless lived their lives.
"Alright guys, enough sightseeing." Macarios told his allies. "Remember what we're here for. To find answers."
"You mean like those books?" One of the members pointed at a bookstore. Many then gasped, as their Lostbelts had long since discarded books and replaced them with the faster, much more efficient, digital libraries. So it was a sight to see actual books here in that place called a bookstore.
"Incredible." The lady said. "It's like we're back in time or something. Before the Gods guided us to what we are now." Pretty amazing in its own way. Now wondering if the supposed Proper Human History lived the same way.
"I suppose so." On that Macarios agreed with. "But we can do this later. Remember, we need to find that guy our scanners picked up." Books weren't going to help them at all.
"Fine." Taking out her scanner, the lady then pointed at a train. "The signal is coming from there."
"Alright, then let's get going," Following their leader, everyone then went to the train station to find their target. It seems they were inside though, so they passed by the entrance and attempted to get past the gate to find their target.
"Halt!" Where they're then stopped by some guard. "Where are your tickets?"
"...our what?" Macarios asked.
"Tickets. You can't get aboard without buying one." The guard told them.
"Wait, buy?" The female said with surprise. Same with the others who couldn't believe it.
"As in…money?" One of the Olympians went to clarify.
"Uh, yeah." Now that got everyone shocked. I mean, they had to freakin pay just to get aboard the train. This really was some backwater society where you had to rely on money of all things to go where you want. Let aside just to get past the gates.
"This place really is godless." One member says with some of them reluctantly agreeing to it. Admittingly, that did mean that there aren't any tyrannical rulers making them be nothing more but obedient worshipers with no form of ambition at all. Yet to be forced to pay for stuff, now that's unnatural in their eyes.
"Um." With Macarios then saying, "We don't have money."
"Then you best get moving away." The guard then turned while pointing the way out. The Olympians, despite having far more power than anybody around here, reluctantly obeyed. While they had their mission, beating up innocent people isn't part of that nor did they wish to cause such harm. As such, they left the station while the train they hoped to get on suddenly began leaving the station. Once they got outside, the train left and now went wherever it was supposed to go.
"And there goes that." Patting Macarios's back, the grown-man sighed. "Gotta admit, I didn't expect these guys to use money of all things just for society to work." What a difference in values compared to Olympus.
"Whatever. Can we just go now?" The woman then said, her eyes looking up where a great distance above is none other than the city of Olympus. "I don't like being under that." The city that held them back, while forcing them to simply hear and obey, no more than that. Horrible. Not helping that they're all under the Olympian Gods noses, who could attack at any time once they got ready.
"Alright, fine." After thinking a bit, Macarios then had an idea. "We can just follow on the ship. Should be good by now actually."
"Good idea." The man said, liking it. "Plus we can show all the pictures we took for the others. They'll love it."
"We can agree on that." Macarios chuckled, betting his sister would enjoy such imagery. In any case, the gang began to head back to where the ship was at. While walking, taking more pictures like tourists so that they didn't have all the fun compared to their comrades who are fixing the ship.
Though as they moved, Macarios then felt his pocket buzz. Frowning, from his pocket Macarios took out none other than a simple device that appears to be a sort of cell phone as seen in Proper Human History, though obviously more advanced. Though it still had similar functions such as texting and calling. A message sent to him from one of the members.
"What?" Where the message told him one thing, that made Macarios worried.
Servant Rider was gone.
"Let's get going." Best to get answers and fast.
The train ride was overall a nice change of pace. The films were good, the snacks were nice, not to mention later on some meals will be served. Sure Oscar didn't like the fact that he's losing money through all of this. But on the other hand, he enjoyed doing something new for a change as he traveled to Mistral, something he's never done before.
"So this is what it's like to go on a journey." Like one of those characters in comics or films. Though with less monsters, bandits, or jerks attacking the main character as they journeyed. Thank goodness reality wasn't like some action show with drama in it, if just a bit more boring.
"Trust me. Best to enjoy these leisurely moments now rather than later. Peace, while wonderful, isn't something that lasts forever." All one has to do is look at the papers and realize that peace enjoyed before has just been ruined.
The Grimm are more active. The White Fang have become more than just simple thugs and outright terrorist. Villages were vanishing at a more rapid pace. Bandits becoming much bolder. The kingdoms keeping themselves isolated from one another. Just a lot of bad news one after the other, ever since the disaster that happened in Vale during the Vytal Festival.
"Yeesh. Talk about bringing down the mood." Still, Oscar supposed he can't blame Ozpin too much. From what he knew, the former headmaster of Beacon is one of the dude's trying to ensure peace is kept. Then he died and crap happened all over the world.
"Apologies. But the truth hurts." No denying that.
"Got it, got it. Fine. I'll just enjoy what we got here." Oscar then ate some candy, the expensive kind too, then looked out the window. "On the bright side, this trip has been pretty neat. Going to places I've never been before, riding a train, watching the latest films." The farm had poor reception and the latest movies always came late. "Pretty neat stuff."
"Hehe. I suppose traveling around is a wonderful way to explore the world. And Mistral, while certainly full of undesirables, has much culture to see." Yeah. Oscar has heard about that. Mistralians always express themselves the most out of all the kingdoms. Just a shame the kingdom has loads of gangsters all around. Thank goodness Oscar lived on a farm and avoided all of that back alley crime.
Checking his scroll, Oscar then saw that they'll be arriving to Mistral's station in about another five hours. Plenty of time for a few more films. Maybe a nap as well since it'll be dark eventually, as by the time Oscar and Ozpin get to Mistral, the sun will be setting. Hopefully a hotel will have room to let them in.
"Aren't you going to play another film?" Ozpin then asked his current host.
"Not yet." Oscar looked out the window. Smiling as he saw all the trees they passed by. "Just going to enjoy the view. The lovely grass, the trees, the clouds. Oh. Not to mention a Bullhead…" Oscar then went quiet along with Ozpin.
A Bullhead?
The side of the 'Bullhead' then opened, where some guy wearing a robe of sorts can be seen and pointed at the train. No, wait, not the train. It looks like they were pointing at…Oscar?
"Um, Ozpin. Are they-?" then, before Oscar could ask anymore, he suddenly felt his own mind being pushed back.
"I'm sorry Oscar, but those people. I don't think they're normal people." Suddenly, Oscar could see, but like he was seeing in the backseat of a car. With no control over his body. Some form of energy coursing through him as none other than Ozpin took control. "If anything," 'Oscar' narrowed his eyes. "They might be working for…"
Whatever Ozpin might have said vanished as suddenly, the person hand their palm facing toward them.
Crack!
Where the glass then shattered, falling outside the train with Ozpin stepping back. Then ran forward and jumped out of the train and headed towards the more advanced Bullhead, surprising the young man.
"Woah, what?" Oscar said mentally.
Ozpin quickly saying, "We can't let the people on the train get hurt. As such," Oscar then landed on the strange bullhead in front of the person, who appears to just be a teenager. "Let's take the fight to them."
In that instant Ozpin lifted his fist and threw it at the teenager's gut, making the male stumble back as he didn't expect the attack.
"Woah!" Nearby, another person dressed similarly to the boy stepped backwards. "The hell!"
Ozpin grabbed the teenager and threw him at the man making both slam onto the ground. His eyes then turned and saw many people inside already. All of them looking very wary of him right now. To be expected as they never considered Oscar/Ozpin to resist them. That'll be their mistake as Ozpin then saw a broken metal bar and grabbed it.
"This'll do for now." He then rushed to where the controls are only for some people to get in his way.
"H-Hold on!" One of them shouted. "We're here to-" Whatever the man had to say, went ignored and silenced as Ozpin slammed the end of the metal bar against the dude's face. Although the sound of the jaw breaking was a bit surprising.
'Did he not activate his aura in time?' Ozpin thought while he then prepared to attack the other person only to see them get out of the way. Judging by their stances and postures, they didn't seem to know how to fight. At all.
"Got you!" Nor were they aware that yelling only gave away their position. This time, a grown-man struck, trying to grab Ozpin. Turning, he simply swung the metal bar down at the man's knee.
Crunch.
Where the man cried out and fell down clutching the broken knee.
"Brutal!" Ozpin could hear Oscar, horrified that he, Ozpin, they (?), just crippled a person.
"Huh." Did nobody have aura here? Either way, Ozpin turned and got ready to deal with the driver when suddenly, the person he struck before came back with not even a bruise on his face.
The man grabbed him and seemed to get ready to shove Ozpin down on the ground. So, while a bit dirty, Ozpin lifted his knee between the man's legs.
"Augh!" The man went down with Ozpin grabbing his leg, lifting him and throwing him at the group of individuals who tried to attack from behind. The person piloting looked back and gulped, looking very much worried. Ozpin got ready to strike again when suddenly, he felt something from behind and turned.
"Go to sleep already." The teenager from before, the one Ozpin and Oscar first saw, then said something under his breath and a bolt of energy hit them both. Where suddenly Ozpin felt very…sleepy…
"Aw man." Oscar, also affected, said his last words as despite both souls desperately trying to stay awake, only found themselves to hit the ground and get themselves knocked out. Immobilized and unmoving, as the spell casted by Macarios did its magic.
"Aw. My nuts."
"At least you didn't get your damn knee bent the wrong way."
"My jaw actually cracked."
Though not before Ozpin did some damage, even if said damage was already undone thanks to the healing capabilities the Olympians had. Though just because they could heal, didn't mean they liked feeling pain. The ones hurt now glaring at the knocked out boy, feeling rather peeved off that they got attacked when all they wanted was to talk. Though Macarios could understand a bit, betting the kid just misunderstood or something.
'At the very least we got him, even if it was more…tougher than expected.' Rubbing his stomach where he'd been punched. "Anyway, just put him in a corner but keep an eye on him just in case. We came here for answers and maybe allies, but best to be prepared in case he tries attacking us again."
"Got it."
"Sure."
As two God Slayer Alliance members grabbed the young teen and dragged him away, Macarios then went to speak to someone else. Asking, "So Rider vanished away? Like, for real? Not just…turning ghost?"
"Yeah, he's gone." The girl he asked sighed. "My best guess, he ran out of mana or something. But supposedly the Counter Force empowers the summoned Servants, so I don't know why it would stop giving him mana."
"Then something else is at play?" Macarios asked with the girl shrugging.
"No clue." The girl then decided to walk away. "I'm just wondering if the other Heroic Spirits are having the same problem." That's definitely a good concern. As far as Macarios knew, there had been many Heroic Spirits who arrived from the Atlantic seas to join them. Granted, some ditched them and cut their connections with the God Slayer Alliance when they believed they couldn't win, but many remained behind.
But after hearing the possibility that some of them might vanish because of some unknown reason…frightened Macarios.
'Even though the Olympian Gods are crippled, they're still massively dangerous.' They'd need as many hands as possible. No way could they, regular citizens who have rarely, if ever fought could harm the Gods. Thus why they supported the Heroic Spirits.
So hopefully, the other Servants are doing okay.
"Well that was terrifying." From a broken ship that landed miles upon miles away from the town, where it'd take days to walk over there, a voice came out of it. Busting through the door, one of the many Servants that arrived in the Atlantic Lostbelt through the Counter Force came out a young man wearing golden armor with spiky green hair and a confident expression on his face. Not even looking harmed despite the crash landing.
"But all's well that ends well, am I right?" Turning, another person stumbled out of the ship. They looked very displeased.
"Only you would think falling out of the sky is neat." It's a young boy who admittingly, looked a bit girlish. Wearing what many would call an adorable outfit while having a small animal on his head. A sheep to be specific.
"Yeah. Especially with that invincibility of yours!" The sheep then spoke up, showing it was no mere animal if it was at all. "Heck, you didn't suffer even a scratch, ya jerk!"
"Yeah!" The boy said while the green haired man rolled his eyes.
"Uh-hu, whatever." The young man said which angered the two, which he promptly ignored. "The point is, we're alive and active to…woah. That's new."
"Huh, new?" The sheep spoke up, noticing the confused face his partner's great enemy had on him "What are yo-" Then, the sheep and the boy also looked up. "...damn."
"The moon's broken!" The boy shouted as all three saw it. A busted up moon that had its pieces floating around it. One that definitely shouldn't even be broken, showing something is clearly wrong.
"Not just that either." The armored warrior looked around. "This place feels…different." A lot different. He didn't actually know how to explain it though, just a gut feeling of sorts.
"Can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree." The sheep gave a little hop. "Something about this place feels off for some reason."
"What do you mean Apollo?" The little boy then asked the sheep, or should it be said, the God of Sunlight and other minor stuff like music and arts. Why the God is a sheep though, is another story for another time.
"My divine senses say so." Apollo explained. "Granted, I can't explain it all well. Uhh. This must have been caused by the spatial shift in the Lostbelt."
"Right, that." The green haired warrior understood. Remembering what happened a while ago. Where, after staying in the islands while the other Heroic Spirits moved on, something occurred that caused a bunch of water to be drained and fall right into the great city of Olympus itself. Many Heroic Spirits and Atlantic residents, pulled in by the shift where the three then decided to run off quickly when things got crazy.
Now, they're here in some weird place that didn't feel normal at all. Where the warrior then asked aloud, "Are we…even on earth?"
"What makes you say that?" The boy asked, raising his brow. "That seems dumb."
"It is." The little sheep God Apollo giggled. "But for once, the muscle head is right."
"Huh?"
"Who are you calling a muscle head?"
"Moving on, I agree with muscle head." Ignoring the warrior who just gave a small glare, Apollo explained himself. "We aren't in the Lostbelt anymore, as whatever spatial shift occurred brought everything elsewhere. Where exactly, I don't know. But we aren't in the Lostbelt seeing as last I checked, the Lostbelt had ocean water and a bunch of small islands. I see neither." The sheep then looked up at the blue sky. "Plus…the stars are different?"
"Huh. You can see the stars?" That confused the warrior. Last he checked, it's day time.
"Never underestimate a God's vision!" The sheep cried out.
"Yeah Achilles!" The boy joined his God. "You should know better!"
"Suck-up." Achilles then insulted the boy who gasped at the insult. Before another fight could occur, Apollo spoke up again.
"Anyway!" He continued. "I can't recognize any of these stars at all. None of them match anything known to earth. Though then again, the busted moon up there probably was a major warning. Along with the fact that we're no longer empowered by the Counter Force."
"What?!" The two individuals shouted at the same time.
"Huh. You didn't notice Paris?" Apollo asks his favorite human the question.
"No! I didn't!" Paris shouted while now worried. "No, no, no! W-We're gonna vanish away now!" The Counter Force called upon countless Servants to save humanity, ergo, to destroy the Atlantic Lostbelt. Giving them the energy needed where normally a Servant needs a Master to function. But if what Apollo said was true, then with the Counter Force gone, the three of them will vanish into dust!
"Damn it!" Grunted the great Greek hero Achilles. "Are you kidding me?" A quick check on himself showed he was indeed feeling the lack of mana flowing into him. And considering how he lacks those unique nanomachines that other Servants apparently put in them, he'd vanish soon enough.
"I give you Paris, about maybe three hours." Apollo then looks at Achilles. "You got less than an hour, you energy hog." The curse of being a super strong Servant that needed loads of mana to fight. "And a reminder, this is so long as none of you use any-"
"Of our Noble Phantasms and extended fighting. Yeah, yeah." Achilles interrupted with a frown. "Great. We get summoned to help the world, only to vanish away cause we're in apparently another. How did that happen?"
"No idea. I was too busy trying not to drown." Then Paris saw Achilles and, while hating him, decided to call Rider to come with him so they could get on a ship and ride away to safety. Too bad they crashed here instead, where now they'll vanish away without even doing anything meaningful.
"Whatever." Grunting, Achilles then thought of what to do. "Mmm. Maybe we can find someone to be a Master. Cause I'm not vanishing without punching one of those damn Gods in the face."
"And just where are we going to find a person?" Paris asks while, after putting Apollo on his head, spreading his arms out. "We don't even know where the nearest town is."
"Well I'm not staying here either." Achilles then jumped up and went onto the highest tree. Where he could now see the horizon as best he could. "Now then," He said to himself. "Town, town, town." Sadly, all Achilles saw were just a bunch of trees which made his mood go down. "Great. Nothing."
Down below, Paris and Apollo wondered what to do themselves. The small God decided to at least see if they could sense anybody around, but it was just the three and no more than that. "Welp, we're done for."
"Don't give up lord Apollo!" Paris grabbed the fluffy God and shaked him.
"Hey, no need to shake me!" Apollo shouted as he felt his fluffy body getting sick from the motion. "This is just how it is. Not all heroes get to die with purpose." Or more like vanish back into the Throne of Heroes, but they may as well be dead regardless. "But think of the bright side. At least we can enjoy the sight of nice trees before we go."
Suddenly, bursting from the trees came a massive snake with red eyes with sharp fangs.
"...I'm gonna shut up now." Apollo simply said while Paris screamed.
"Damn!" Achilles looked down and saw the giant snake. A demonic beast? Whatever it was, it's a threat. Granted, normally Achilles and even Paris could kill such things without too much of a problem. Unfortunately, even just a simple punch drains mana, something neither could just waste.
"Ruagh!" Which they may not have a choice in doing, seeing as countless beasts started coming out. All of them have the same dark color scheme and bone armor with red eyes. All of them also sensed weakness, as they howled and roared out.
"Just great." Achilles then jumped down and landed. "Well, if he's going to fade away, may as well be while fighting. Paris, thinking the same, got ready to throw some fluffy sheep at these nasty creatures. Like Achilles, he too may as well die like a hero.
The strange creatures paused. Sensing their determination. How vile. Best to change that. Though before the giant Alpha Beowolf could make the charge with the rest, a sound could be heard. One heard by all the Grimm and the two Servants and God, where all of them then turned around to see what was causing it.
"Hya!" Where from the trees, a motorcycle burst out and jumping off it, a girl with blonde hair and a grin came out and had what appeared to be a robotic fist. One that decided to give the Beowolf a nice tasty knuckle sandwich. Sending the vile beast back while she grinned before looking at the two Servants while pulling down her sunglasses. Giving the two Servants a grin.
"Need assistance?"
Ah, the Olympian citizens. Having loads of mana, and could even fight a Servant…Unless they're trained. From what I understand, aside from those who train and are reserve guards, many in Olympus were just average people who, while having buttloads of mana, lived normal lives for thousands of years.
Meaning the regular members of the God Slayer Alliance, despite their vast healing powers, can be surprised and easily beaten up since in their years of peace they never bothered to fight at all. As such, Ozpin/Oscar easily hurt them due to their misunderstanding when confronting him.
In the meantime, we see a few Servants who meet up but are on the verge of vanishing away. Until a certain cool blonde came in with a Yang! Good for them.
