Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto; it is owned by Masashi Kishimoto. Supergirl is owned by the CW, CBS, DC COMICS and Warner Bros. I own nothing and I am just a humble fan.
Author's Note: Hello everyone, I am here with the rewrite of "To Heal a Broken Heart". I hope you all enjoy this rewrite and I am confident you will like it better than "To Heal a Broken Heart". Honestly, I hit a wall with that last story and it was sapping my energy and creative juices. I felt there were some decisions made in that story that did not fit and work well. It was not my best work and I am capable of better. I will do better and you deserve that from me. I will hope that you stick along for the ride. I thank MultiverseNaruto and Aragorn II Elessar for all their help and support.
This story will have sad, tough, healing moments, but also moments of comedy and a little crack. This rewrite will be my first and last rewrite of "To Heal a Broken Heart" and hopefully my last rewrite ever. I will always accept constructive criticism that helps me to be better. I will not accept sick, disgusting, abhorrent comments ever about me. I will be reporting those individuals and if I have the chance, I will delete those comments. Flamers can kindly or unkindly fuck the hell off. No one forces you to read my stuff ever. If you don't like what I write, don't read it and don't comment. It is as simple as that. To the ones who have always had my back and given me support, I salute you. Without further ado, let us begin.
Prologue- A Hero No More
It was cold, colder than anything she had ever expected or felt in her life. She disliked funerals and now she realized that she was filled with nothing but hate for them. It never made things better for her or provided her any closure in her life. This was not the first time she ever saw a funeral or was a part of one. She remembered her Aunt Astra and how she lost her. She lamented how show lost so much time with her and how she could never get it back. She painfully realized that life was not full of do-over's; you only got one chance in your life to make your mark, and if you could not, you could not.
On this cold, rainy day as everyone held their umbrellas to ward of the tears from the sky, Kara looked around and saw humans and aliens alike standing together, shedding tears with each other. She realized that during times of tragedy, humans and aliens could put their differences aside and stand together as one to honor and mourn each other in peace. Though Kara could not help but realize that this might be temporary, at least for a little while, things could be looking up for all.
Kara wiped a small tear from her eye as she looked at the headstones and the roaring fire in the center of the new memorial. And before that fire was a monument, a monument dedicated to the lives of everyone lost in the Invasion, an Invasion she would never forget.
She noticed from the corner of her eye that her friend Lena Luthor was standing there in the back. There were tears coming from eyes and she noticed her sobbing. It was for the victims and for the children that were killed with such callousness and cruelty that she could not comprehend. For a moment, she swore she saw Lena was staring at her. When she turned around, Lena was no longer there.
Kara sighed. She wondered if she and Lena would ever speak again. She wondered if a Luthor and a Super could be friends and comrades in arms. She wondered what the people thought of Lena Luthor after the Invasion. She wondered what Lena would do if she ever knew that she was Supergirl. She wondered if the world enjoyed toying with their emotions.
And then there was the Invasion. Zod was freed inadvertently from the Phantom Zone and he wasted no time in launching his assault and doing everything he could to get vengeance on Earth and destroy the planet that her cousin called home.
There was blood and chaos and destruction in the streets of National City. For the first time in her life, she felt powerless. She was supposed to die that day, she was supposed to be buried six feet under. Instead to her horror, and to her everlasting regret, someone else died that day.
The Son of Zod died that day. A man she should have hated died for her and her ideals and dreams. She fell for the man who was once named Nar-El, a man who was the Son of Zod. He was a man who handed her his first greatest defeat the day they met. They had such a rocky start, but she could not help but fall for his heart and his soul, and his will and his purity.
Nar-El fought for her and protected her. He fought against his family for her. And he was killed by his own father for siding with her. She was overtaken by rage and hate when she held his dead body, a gentle smile on his face. His death unleashed a rage that she never thought she could produce. In front of Zod's army, she killed him, slaughtered him as if he was mere cattle in front of her. The sheer brutality and ecstasy of wrath she indulged in scared the Invading Army. She sent them back with a dire warning inside the Phantom Zone and told them in no simple terms that their lives were forfeit.
She shook away her thoughts as she moved to the Memorial Stone and stared at Nar's name etched on the bottom. She placed her hand over it gently and then left. She could no longer be here. She noticed the sky continue to cry and the emptiness in her heart as she quietly made her way out of there.

She somehow managed to make her way to her loft as she held her superhero costume with her crest She held it gently as ran her hands along the crest that made her so proud. She then placed her costume in a bag along with another special possession of hers and planned her next destination.
She also decided to check up on Lena. Despite everything that had happened between them, she was a dear friend to her. She quietly made her way to her penthouse and saw the empty bottles of alcohol and how Lena was screaming into her bed, sobbing loudly and clearly. Kara saw the news report on her tv and saw that the children in the Luthor Hospital had all died due to Zod. Lena was screaming into her bed. Kara shook her head and shed a tear for Lena and those dead kids. She had no regrets in killing Zod now. Yet, she wondered what help she could be for Lena in these times when she could not help herself.
Kara quietly left and made her way to the Fortress of Solitude. This Fortress was the last reminder of Krypton's existence. The knowledge of many worlds lie within this fortress. She sat on the cold ground and wondered where her life had taken her.
She had her own life on her home planet. She had friends, family, loved ones. She was going to be a part of the Science Guild. She was destined for so much more. And then the planet had died and she was entrusted with taking care of Superman. Instead, her pod was stuck in the Phantom Zone and she arrived to Earth decades later. Her cousin was all grown up and a hero in his own right, the World's Greatest Hero. And she was reduced to being his burden and placed on someone else's doorstep.
While she did not regret her new family, she resented being fostered on someone else. She hated feeling like that and she hated the fact that her cousin had abandoned her and did not bother to check in on her. She also hated the fact that she had to hide herself and her abilities and settle for a life of mediocrity, something that she loathed.
And so she lived a double life, all to protect herself and her loved ones. She went to school and university, scoring great and phenomenal grades graduating with a few degrees due to her knowledge and will. She settled for a life of mediocrity working as a secretary for Cat Grant, a media mogul, wondering if this was all she had to look forward to for life.
She should have realized that life threw its own curveballs. She was forced to act and reveal her abilities when her sister's plane was about to crash. She later learned that her sister was a filthy hypocrite who worked for a government organization that kept an eye on wild cards and those that were deemed dangerous. It had taken much convincing, but she was given the chance to prove herself and she did. She finally was able to wear the crest of her family and became a hero in her own right, after surprisingly much encouragement from her sister and a beloved hologram of her mother.
However, she did wish that the hero's journey was an easy one. She was forced to confront harsh truths that shattered her naivety. She was forced to fight against her aunt and her ludicrous plan to save humanity through mind control while trying to get her to change her mind. She was forced to confront the hologram of her mother and realize that her mother was not the paragon of virtue that she thought. Even though she managed to save humanity, she lost so much.
A year had passed from that day which was termed the Myriad Incident. Lena Luthor had come to town looking for a fresh start and to prove she was more than her name. And then, he came into her life. The Son of Zod had appeared in National City in a broken down Kryptonian pod. The two of them had a rocky first start. She mistrusted him due to what Zod had done on Earth. It also did not help matters that he handed her a major defeat in combat when she tried to apprehend him.
However, time passed as she learned more about him. She realized that he was nothing like his father or mother. He was a good man with morals and kindness and a big heart. She was secretly jealous of the ladies who showed him attention. One day, they both confessed what they felt for each other and it was amazing. The night they spent together meant a great deal for Kara and for him.
And when his parents came knocking on the front door, he stood on the side of humanity and protected the Earth. The war Zod started was catastrophic and resulted in the deaths of many, many innocent people. And then, the man she came to love and wanted to build a life with, Nar-El, took a fatal blow meant for her.
She tried everything to wake him up but he no longer could. She realized that now, she had truly lost everything as she gave in to her dark rage and slaughtered Zod and drove away his army while she screamed and sobbed in agony as she cradled his body.
The world was inevitably going to change post Zod's invasion. She had a feeling that thing would change for the worse. However, this was not the time for that. Right now, she was sitting inside the Fortress holding a photo of Nar kissing her cheek as she smiled at him. Tears fell from her eyes, as she lamented all the time she lost fighting with him.
Her eyes glowed as she pounded the ground with her firsts, each strike becoming nastier and brutal than the last. The fortress groaned and creaked but Kara knew the Fortress would not crumble. She unleashed her tears, her rage, and her powerlessness as she was generating mighty quakes with her punches. She then released her heat vision as she screamed. It was a scream borne of pain as a large area of the fortress turned to ash. She collapsed as she sobbed at her misery.
"You won, Nar. You won. In this life or the next, you shamed me. You won by your actions and then what you did after."
"How…, how could you did like that…, my love? How could you just leave me…"
"I will never… have the chance… to apologize… to make amends… I will never…"
"You died without fear… you died with a smile on your face… what does that make of me?"
Kara put the photo away as she placed her costume inside the crystals, never to wear it or look at it again.
"I am no fucking hero… and I will never be one again."
Kara left the fortress never to wear that costume again. However, little did Kara realize that someone else would come into her life real soon and give her a reason to wear it again. She did not realize that person would come to bring happiness and peace to her life again. However, for happiness to come, there are trials that have to be braved.
Chapter End
Well everyone, this is the prologue. Please read and review. I hope you all like it. Once again, I thank MultiverseNaruto and AragornIIElessar for their help and support. I also wish to thank all of you for your help and support.
Normally, I would never have rewritten this. However, I hit a wall. I lost control of the plot. And the torture stuff did not sit right with me. However, this do-over will be a better one. I know the plot and I know the story I wish to write. I hope you stick along for the ride as I appreciate constructive criticism and reviews.
Please do share ideas and suggestions. I want this story to be serious, but I am also interested in infusing crack and comedy into this as well. The harem for this is Kara/Lena/Sam/Powergirl. The plot from Superman and Lois gave me the idea to incorporate Powergirl here.
Also, do tell me what you think Naruto's profession should be here. I am flirting with the idea of diplomat, therapist, or even a male prostitute on the side who gives the DC Ladies tender love and care.
Naruto has a past here. In the time that Kara has been retired, someone had to step up to the plate. You will also see POVs of Lena, Sam, and so much more. I am happy to debate and talk. Please do share ideas.
Stay safe and much well wishes to you all. See you in a new update.
