Author's Note: Hello everyone, here we are with the second chapter. Please read and review generously. I hope you all enjoy it. I thank all who have favorite the story, who are following the story, and those who have taken time out of their busy lives to review. It all helps and I am grateful for the reception shown for this story. Special thanks to silverking77 for his help in crafting new back stories and giving me loads of help for this story.

Things are a work in progress, but I will endeavor to put out quality work here. I am thinking for the harem here to be Kara/Lena/Sam/Imra/Donna. That will be the max. This chapter is another POV chapter of Kara, a year post Nar-El's funeral and how things have progressed since then. I also like how all of you have offered suggestions for Naruto's occupation here. I will be going with him bring a teacher in a university teaching philosophy/psychology, not sure yet. He will also become a hero as well as he has not been one in a very long time. The stories of Kara/ Imra/ Sam/Donna, and Lena have been tweaked and will be different as I am not sticking to canon fully.

Without further ado, let us begin

Chapter Two- A Different Path

She was walking through a wheat field, a blonde-haired woman dressed in white admiring the scenery and color of the bright sky and warmth of the sun, as its rays were shining on her. As she brushed her hands across the plants, she could feel a hand gently grasp hers, as she smiled as a pair of arms wrapped around her waist, as a kiss graced her neck.

She turned around slowly and gasped as she saw her handsome lover's face. She gently leaned in and kissed him, savoring the taste of his lips, as they silently dueled with one another. She wrapped her arms around him, and gently broke the kiss as she joined her forehead with his, and gently massaged his cheek with her hands.

Her lover brushed away her unshed tears as they hugged each other and were lost in each other's embrace. Soon enough, the embrace was broken as her lover nudged her to see an important sight as the woman gasped again.

A brown-haired woman had turned around and smiled at her, as she walked closer. It was her mother, her long-lost mother that she lost when her home was destroyed. She was surprised by all of this and was confused, as she looked at her lover in confusion. He simply smiled and nodded at her, as she tearfully embraced her mother.

The alarm clock blaring is what woke Kara from her dreams as she sighed. She closed her alarm clock and stretched gently as she went for her morning rituals. She thought about the year that had passed since she hung up her cape. It had not been an easy decision for her to make but she was glad she did it. She was not ready to come back and be a hero for the city or for the world. She needed to heal on her own and process her grief in her own way. And more importantly, she needed to find a path of her own. She would be damned if she stayed as a secretary and reporter for the rest of her life.

No, she had a better mind, a scientific mind. And she would use that mind for something much better. She would make her own mark in the world and perhaps she did not need to be a hero to do so.

When she quit being a hero, her friends and loved ones were shocked to say the least. They thought it was temporary and that she needed time to heal. However, a month had turned into two months and then into six. The criminals had sensed Supergirl's absence and got emboldened. They took this as their cue to realize that they could do whatever they wanted. The DEO stepped up to cover Supergirl's absence but the city missed and needed its favorite hero.

And then, when she quit her job at Catco Media, her friends were worried more for her. They felt that she was isolating herself from the world and choosing to wallow in her pain. That was not true for her. She needed and wanted to find her own path and do what was necessary and right for her, not for anyone else.

And so, she decided to go back to school. She already had such a vast knowledge of science from her life on Krypton. She had no idea what fields she would pursue or what her future occupation would be, but she wanted to use her mind to help heal the world, find cures and answers for disease, and create a way to strengthen America and its militaries from harm.

And then, there was Lena Luthor. She had no idea why she chose to keep her at arm's length. She was not Clark and Lena was not Lex. Lena was a good soul. Perhaps, it was fear that kept her from sharing her secret with her even though Lena had poured her own heart out and told her things she kept close to the vest. Perhaps, she truly was afraid that Lena would turn on her if she knew the truth. Or was it the fact that she was manipulated by Zod's wife into releasing the rogue Kryptonians from the Phantom Zone that cost her Nar's life?

Whatever the case was, Lena and Kara were not talking, and Kara decided to give Lena space. She knew Lena was struggling with her own guilt and pain about the lives that were lost. Hopefully, soon enough they would be able to talk and she could share her secret with her. She could only hope that when she does, things would be okay.

Initially, she thought it would be hard for her to quit Catco. It was a part of her identity. Yet, after she quit, she found happiness. She was meant to be more than a secretary and a person who fetched coffee for her boss. She wanted more out of her life and she was damned sure she would get it.

She had decided to go back to University. She had no idea yet what she truly wished to pursue but she took as many science courses as she could. While saving lives was beautiful, she realized she could find a way to make a difference in people's lives besides being a hero. She had no idea what that path would be, but she would take her time and find out.

Another thing she had taken up after burying her uniform was combat training. The first time being captured by CADMUS was a nightmare for her She had been stripped of her abilities and tortured nastily during her captivity there. She realized how powerless she truly was without her gifts and she vowed to never end up in a situation like that ever again.

She heard from Clark how he was stuck on Warworld under a Red Sun, devoid of his powers. It had been a wake up call for him. He realized had no knowledge of how to fight. Yet, he learned on Warworld and earned his freedom. When he returned to Earth, he took lessons from Batman and Wonder Woman. It had not been easy but adding proper combat ability to his arsenal would turn out to be a welcome thing for him.

Kara had decided to do the same. She sought out Wonder Woman to never end up in a situation like that ever again.

Kara had decided to do the same. She sought out Wonder Woman and learned whatever she could from her. It was not easy and she realized how powerful one truly was when they had access to Superhuman gifts and could fight the right way. She realized that she had been fooling around for a long time. She humbled herself and learned from not only Diana but her Amazon sisters as well. It had been a welcoming experience when she earned Diana's nod of approval.

And so, once she had finished her morning rituals, she changed into her workout clothes while wearing a Red Sun Ring. She warmed her body up and began hitting the heavy bag like a seasoned veteran, careful to land each punch and kick with finesse, power, and elegance. Normally, she hated the idea of physical exercise and enjoyed eating whatever she wanted without the fear of ever gaining an ounce of fat. However, she really began to enjoy the feeling of sweat, grit, and the joy of taking out your anger on something stationary to ease the stress; simply put, she fell in love with it.

After she finished her session, she took a quick shower and made herself breakfast. While eating, she was lost in her thoughts of the conversation she and Alex had in the past when she quit CatCo. It was interesting… to say the least.

Kara was busy pounding on the heavy bag. It was no ordinary heavy bag, it was a bag that was meant to endure and endure heavy punishment. Kara was methodical with all of her strikes. Every punch and kick was launched with elegance, and even with her Red Sun Ring, there was still a degree of power behind those strikes. The heavy bag served two purposes for her: exercise and for a way to ease the pain and stress of losing the man she loved and cared for.

She ignored the knock on her door as she was in the zone. Finally, the door opened and it was her sister. Kara sighed as she launched a violent kick and the bag was pushed backward. She removed her hand wraps as she pulled of her ring and drank some water as she waited for her sister to speak.

" I heard you quit CatCo. Honestly, I thought it was a joke, but it seems I was proven wrong."

Kara smiled. "It seems good news travels fast."

Alex sighed. "I also heard that you buried your outfit. I have also heard that you have stopped speaking to your friends, stopped coming to game nights and doing nothing in your life that's worthwhile or productive."

Kara scoffed. "That's a lie."

"I see. So you have not been isolating from your friends? Are you ready to speak to Lena, or is she still a sore subject for you?"

Kara sighed. "I am living my life the way I see fit."

Alex looked around her apartment. She would have normally seen empty pizza boxes, empty containers of Chinese takeout. She was happy that Kara was taking better care of herself, but she needed to prod more to understand what her sister was doing.

"You liked working at CatCo. You said it made you happy, gave you purpose, made you feel you were more than Supergirl."

"If Cat Grant can move on, than so can I."

"Okay, so tell me, how long is this pity party of yours going to continue?"

Kara was angry now. "My what?"

"Who are you right now, exactly? As long as I have known you, you have never quit when it comes to anything. So, what are you doing exactly?"

Kara was doing her best to control her anger. "I don't have time for this right now Alex."

"Yeah, that's the answer I expected. You would prefer to do nothing and wallow in your self-misery than do what is right."

"At that point, Kara had enough. "Kara Danvers sucks right now! And so does Supergirl! They failed to do what is right. And they failed when it mattered. So, if I am turning my back on what they were, what's your problem? Why would I ever want to be them ever again?"

Kara sighed as she looked away, and Alex knew she had to prod further. It hurt her to go further, but Kara needed to say and confront what was in her heart.

"Is this about Nar-El? Please, let me help you, Kara. Please let me help you get over him…"

"EXCUSE ME!"

Kara turned around and her eyes were glowing red. With a yell, she shattered the table in front of her with a light tap from her pinky finger. Alex jumped slightly as Kara calmed herself down.

"He didn't dump me. I never left him. I murdered him, Alex. I murdered him. His blood is on me."

Alex was horrified. "You did not murder that man, and I won't have you say you did!"

Kara sighed sadly. "I did murder him, Alex. It happened when I let him get close to me. I should have pushed him away. I should have. Zod and Ursa, they could not leave well enough alone. They just had to invade Earth. And Nar had to be a hero, and save me from death. I held his body in my arms and watched him expire."

"You know something, Alex? He died with a smile on his face. He died without any fear in his heart? What does that make of me, Alex?"

"Every day I scrub my hands, and I still see his blood on them, even though its not there. I am no hero, and I will never fight again. I buried that suit in the fortress. I quit CatCo and I do not regret it. I needed a change in my life. I was meant for more than being a secretary and getting someone's coffee. I am going to use my talents that Rao gave me for something greater."

"And I don't want to talk about Lena. I am not sure what happened there between us, but I think our friendship is over."

"Do you blame her for Nar's death?"

"I…, I don't know. I don't know anything, Alex. I know in my heart that this is not her fault. Maybe I am protecting myself from her learning the truth. Maybe I don't ever want her to learn my secret. Maybe I am afraid she'll hate me and I can't have that."

Alex sighed as she saw the tears running from Kara's eyes. She held her sister as her sister just rested her head on her shoulders.

"I am sorry Kara, I am. I am sorry for pushing you so much. Yet, I am happy you said all of this. This is step one of the healing process. We all forgot that even though you are a Kryptonian, you hurt and can break just like the rest of us. You were so helpless when you came to this planet. I should have realized that instead of fighting with you so much. I also wish that Clark could have been there for you. We all should have been there for you. We should have realized you were hurting."

"Please, let it all out Kara. Please, grieve for tonight. Please cry for him and for what you have lost. It won't make you weak. It will give you peace. I know things will get better one day, they just have too."

And so, Alex held Kara as she sobbed in her arms. Alex stayed there and took care of her sister. Today, she would be protected.

Kara was actually be surprised by the events of that day. She thought she would be berated more or something. Surprisingly, Alex was quite understanding of her current issues. She knew she needed time and space to process all of this.

However, Lena Luthor was still a sore subject for her. She did not know how to make the first move. She had no idea if she was still blaming her for what happened to Nar and for how easily she was manipulated. She had no idea if she was protecting herself. She knew deep down that Nar's death was not on Lena, and she needed to speak to her regarding all of this.

She looked at the photo of her and Nar; the photo where he kissed her. She held that photo close to her heart. She went to her drawer and pulled out one of his shirts as she inhaled the scent of the shirt. It reminded her of him.

"You promised, Nar. You promised you wouldn't leave me. Why did you leave me? Why would you die like that?"

She sighed to herself again. Perhaps time would one day give her the answers she sought.

Chapter End

Well everyone that is the chapter. Please read and review generously. I hope you all like it. Silverking77 has given me lots of help for the back stories for the women, and I hope to use his feedback to craft some good chapters.

Future updates will be slow. Work has slowed down, and I am looking for more work. I hope I find stability soon. I am also working on "The Maelstrom of The Avengers", so maybe a chapter for that story may come out next month.

Also, maybe in April, I am taking some time off for gaming and other stuff.

Stay safe and much well wishes to you all. See you in the next update. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM and a review.
