AU version of events starting from the wedding reception in 8x10 (Bride) as Clark returns to Smallville having taken care of Doomsday at the Fortress, and removed Brainiac from Chloe with the help of the Legion. He needs some advice and also has some news to share.

In chapter one of this Smallville spin-off story, we meet Clark. It's been a decade since the events of the Smallville finale. Clark is dealing with many things that all adults deal with, including a family. But now, new complications seem to be rearing up. Chief among these revolve around a newcomer to Metropolis. Also, an old friend has found Clark but..is it a mere coincidence?

Clark closed his eyes, blocking out the rest of the irate man's tirade. Instead, he bowed his head, desperately seeking out the connection that he and Lois have always shared. He smiled slightly as a clear image of Lois flashed to the front of his mind, and he gained strength from the love he saw shining in her hazel eyes. He could do this... he would do this... to save them.

Following Clark's return home from Metropolis, everything in his life seems to spiral out of control. Chloe remains loyal as he struggles to cope with a blindsiding tragedy, and he falls hard for her. When a routine rescue goes wrong for Clark, will their relationship survive it?
