Bill appeared with the others deep underground. Torches lined the walls. They were still lit and gave no visible smoke. He looked around. "Pretty bleak place you have here."
Celeste said, "It is an old abandoned diamond mine that Lucius stole from it's muggle owners."
Bill asked, "What do you know of how its protected? Traps?"
Phoebe blushed. "We um, kind of killed him before we got that information."
Bill rolled his eyes.
Mindee piped up, "He was vile."
"That I can believe."
Harry said, "We think we can punch out through any wards, at least with only one other, so as long as get a little warning..."
Bill said dryly, "Sometimes you don't get that. Still, stay close and be ready to apparate is always good advice. Okay. I'll take the lead. If anyone is incapacitated then we try to get everyone out. Agreed."
"Agreed," came from all four simultaneously.
"Do you know how creepy that is? And I grew up with my twin brothers."
All four said, "We do," with amusement.
Bill said, "You know next time you could wait till, I don't know breakfast? Robbing Voldemort's old money cache seems the kind of thing that would work better after coffee."
Phoebe asked dryly, "Would you leave around sixty million galleons just sitting around for anyone to take?"
He swallowed. "No?" he barely got out before he thought to add, "Seriously?"
All four nodded.
"Still creepy."
"Still amusing," said all four.
Bill pulled out a small potion and downed it. Steam came out of his ears. He continued their journey downward. Less than two hundred feet later he said, "We are here."
All four of the others held balls of light in their hand that they motioned to the ceiling. The balls of light floated up and stayed there. They could now see the slight shift of the rock where the area beyond seemed sliced from the area they were in now.
Bill said, "Without a full team I can't easily remove this. Well, it wouldn't be easy then. One slip and we get buried in rock. The thing is, I don't think it covers our target. This is just an entrance ward. Can you apparate us to the surface? I know its hard to judge without having seen it."
Mindee motioned him back into the middle of the circle. Their eyes flashed blue white before they vanished, only to reappear nearly a thousand feet above, with no apparent regard for the force of gravity.
Bill said, "Well that works, but its creepy too."
They rolled their eyes.
Bill said, "Do you see that tallest tree over there?" He pointed roughly towards the direction where the moon was in the sky.
They quickly flew over to it. Bill motioned them down. They touched down. Their link faded.
Bill asked, "How are you at digging?"
Their link was instantly back as Harry pointed the Elder wand nearly straight down. A stream of Earth liquefied and started piling up into a hill of dirt.
Two minutes later Harry stopped. He said, "I think we are there."
Bill cast a very bright light spell from his wand down the hole. Down below, as far as the eye could see was nothing but gold. "Sweet" he muttered.
"Okay, can you um do the same thing but just restack it all on the surface. I want to run checks before we store it."
Harry repeated the effort, but this time the gold coins came out in a steady stream and piled on the ground and just kept piling.
"Crap Harry. I think there is more than you said."
Mindee added, "And we are fresh out of expanded bags."
Bill said, "Would you mind if I contacted Gringotts? Given I'm an employee I can get their fee for help down to 10%. They should also include checking all this for traps, and quite honestly I don't want to do it. Something nasty is liable to be in there somewhere."
Harry shrugged.
Phoebe said, "It is fine with us."
Bill pulled out a silver rune engraved rod from his inside pocket and broke it in two.
Before long a very grumpy and very old Goblin appeared along with half a dozen younger goblins.
"Arnock, I am sorry to disturb your rest."
Arnock looked around, seeing the gold and goggled.
"I think we will forgive you for this. What is the situation curse breaker Weasley?"
"Harry?" asked Bill.
"My friends and I killed off another of Voldemort's followers. I helped kill Voldemort not long ago. We extracted the memory of where they hid their gold. With everyone who knows of this place but us dead, we claimed it and recovered it. We do not know if there are any further traps in the gold."
Arnock smiled a fierce smile.
"Ten percent clause," Bill said.
Arnock's smile dipped a little. "Fair enough. How do you want the gold divided?"
Bill looked at Harry who shrugged. Bill said, "½ in mine, ½ in Potter's vault."
"Potter closed his vaults."
"Surely you can reopen one for this?"
"We can. We might even forget his indiscretion."
Potter replied. "I did what I had to. The dark lord had to die."
Arnock blinked. "I'll admit that many in Gringotts were quite angry about the robbery, but our forensic team determined what was stored in our vault and we were more angry about that. No, we refer to your other indiscretion." His last sentence had special emphasis.
"Ah," nodded Harry. "I'm keeping my money for now. I may put it in a bank in Australia. Surely this is enough for now?" He gestured to all the money.
"Gringotts has a bank in Australia."
"You guys don't give up do you?"
The goblin smiled. It was not a pretty smile. He said, "And if you deposited your money back, we might even return the fees we took out when you pulled it all out."
"I'll think about it."
Arnock said, "Limited time offer."
"I said I'd think about it," grumbled Harry.
Arnock smiled, even as his assistants went to work.
Bill said, "We will stay and guard till you are done."
Arnock said, "It will take us a couple hours. I will have to wake others, including Ragnok. Once I get some additional guards here, you can resume your normal job." He smiled.
"Sure," Bill said, obviously less than thrilled. He added, "Definitely looking forward to any traps that might be buried. My wife is going to kill me."
Harry offered, "Well we could melt it all down with alchemic fire. Nah, that won't work. It would take weeks with this much."
Arnock blinked. "You know alchemy?"
"A bit yes. Enough to do that much anyway."
"Gringotts will waive your fee for one ton of alchemically pure silver and will provide the silver and will even let curse breaker Weasley out of his share of curse breaking."
Bill said, "It is not that I don't want…"
Arnock replied, "Do not take me for a fool. I understand your concerns particularly with a family. We will do this by the book with care, so hopefully no one ends up dead."
"Harry," Bill said. "If you can really do that, it would be a very good deal for the Goblins. Still, it would be basically working for free given the cost of alchemically pure silver. Tell him you will do it for half of the product and if they want the other half they can offer you more for it. I'll stay and help as best I can regardless. Don't worry, I'm not about to fail to come home."
Arnock said, "If you weren't making us a lot of money I'd fire you for being so unhelpful curse breaker Weasley."
Bill shrugged, obviously unconcerned about his employment.
Harry turned to Arnock, "Is what Bill proposes agreeable and is there anything further that can be done to reduce the risk?"
Arnock said, "Agreed, and we will be cautious. Once we have secured the area you will be redirected where you will work."
Harry said, "I'll need my friends as well, but not Bill. He apparently needs to stay to make his bosses happy."
"Thanks Harry," Bill muttered, though from his expression he understood why he was staying.
"Your welcome. Look at it this way, you will likely get to bed before us."
Bill said, "Well there is that."
It was almost dawn and Phoebe was more than a little tired when they were escorted deep into the bowels of Gringotts.
Then they were forced, politely to set all their belongings down and take a meticulous shower, followed by being re-clothed in nothing more than a white robe was a bit ridiculous. It was, however, a very nice white robe. It did speak of the importance they held this process and the resulting metal, which spoke of other things. Just how valuable was alchemical silver? She sent the question to Harry.
"I'm honestly not sure. I know Hermione and I made a lot of the stuff before she pronounced what we had acceptable quality. I know it has a lot more uses besides making overpowered bombs. I think it mainly focuses on things like permanent enchantments and maybe things like Goblin forged weapons. I, no, we need to learn more."
Mindee said, "Your thinking of making Hermione's tombstone out of it, if you can figure out how to secure it."
"She helped figure it all out. I would have died so many times without her."
Mindee thought, "Fitting. Perhaps it would play music. Did she have a favorite song?"
"I don't know, and I feel I should have."
Celeste added to their conversation, "We are there."
Harry blinked and noticed that they had been led to a deep underground cavern. It looked like the whole room except for the door was cut from perfect marble in the shape of a half sphere. It was perhaps forty feet wide. There was way more than a ton of raw material here, all in neat stacks along the walls.
A goblin he now noticed was king Ragnok himself had joined them here, along with a half dozen goblin warriors.
Ragnok said softly, "You should know if you damage this chamber the consequences will be severe."
Harry said, "We understand. Will you select the silver to convert? I believe we agreed on one ton, with half to me, though as we are tired perhaps we could just do your half for now and put the rest in our vault and I'll do it later?"
One very old Goblin he didn't see before, came from behind the guards. He walked forward slowly with the help of a cane.
He walked carefully up to Harry and then said clearly, "I do not believe you. You claim you can make our most precious resource, and then claim you can do so if it is contaminated. I can barely make a fraction of that at one time, let alone if it gets contaminated by the pollutants and stray magic a vault would have."
Harry shrugged. "We can do the full ton if you want. Would there be someplace we can sleep and rest afterwards? It has been a very long day."
"It is agreed," intoned Ragnok.
The very old goblin motioned with his arm causing bricks of silver along the walls to carefully restack into a cubeabout a foot and a half on a side. "That is just under one ton. Adding another block would make it just over."
Harry shrugged. "You can add another if you want."
Another block floated over and rested on the top.
Harry said, "This is going to get intense. Everyone needs to either leave this room or at least stay against the walls. It will also get uncomfortably hot."
Ragnok motioned, and all moved against walls, himself included.
The very old goblin took almost a minute to make it there before he carefully sat down and gazed at Harry and the Frost sisters, his expression still disbelieving.
Harry pulled out his old wand and quickly held Celeste's hand with his other hand. Mindee completed the loop by holding his right arm behind his elbow.
Suddenly a burst of phoenix song filled the air. Mindee and Harry grinned. Phoebe rolled her eyes. Celeste smiled. The goblins looked interested.
Harry directed his wand at the pile. He quickly floated the entire thing into the very center of the room.
Then with further focus the silver rapidly began to liquefy giving off a searing heat to those closest and an uncomfortable one to those along the walls.
Their focus continued as their combined power spread the liquid into a two inch tall cylinder seven feet in diameter above their heads; and then it started to spin while generating ever greater amounts of heat. Small impurities began to visibly gather in both the core and the outer ring. Each was no more than a fraction of an inch in diameter, and were only visible at all due to their much darker coloration.
Another gesture from Harry had the outer impurities move out of the fast spinning disc and gather in the air to form a new block before settling to the ground. They repeated it with the inner impurities, forming a similarly sized block. Each block was less than a 1/3 the size of one of the original ingots.
The silver spun faster. The room got hotter. A secondary band of impurities shot into the center of the ring. Those too were pulled out and formed into a brick.
They increased the heat one final time, relying on Harry's shared magic to protect them. Only a small wisp of blackness touched the outermost layer. He directed that into a small cube no bigger than a tablespoon.
The heat back off now as they kept control but drew back the heat, slowly but steadily. Over a period of at least twenty minutes they slowly brought the temperature down while maintaining the spin rate.
In the end, in the middle of them lay a seven foot wide two inch high disc of purist silver.
Harry and the others carefully set themselves down afterwards.
The goblins were stunned.
Harry said tiredly,"You didn't specify a final shape, and we are a bit tired, so we just left it. I assume you can cut it in two."
Ragnok asked reverently, "What would you want for the rest of it?"
He still didn't bother to get up. He said tiredly, "I want fewer people, goblins, gnomes, and magicals all over to die or have crap lives for stupid reasons. Can you give me that?"
Ragnok blinked. "You want us to work against the next Dark Lord?"
"Well yes, but I'm talking something more near term. Magical Britain is a mess. Find a way to help. I'm not asking you to betray your people. You could probably help yourselves too, but just try. Maybe work with the ICW if you can?"
Ragnok said, "I cannot change the direction of the goblin people by myself, not even for this much alchemically pure silver. It is pure is it not?"
The old goblin carefully got up and walked towards it. They all waited breathlessly as he laid hands on it and then shed several tears. "It is my lord."
"Very well," Ragnok said. "I will try to do what you ask. Can we agree that we try to make employment based on skill not family ties?"
Celeste said tiredly, "Just make sure it is not all one group. We know about your treaties of old that limit you to this bank and curse breaking. Most of the rest of the world has no such treaties. You have an opportunity now, but many of these old families are not going to want fast change. Choose carefully and we will back you up if we can."
Ragnok said, "It is agreed. The cost of removing the curses found on your new deposits will be handled by Gringotts, as will the cost of reactivating the main potter vault. You will be charged no fees should you deposit your other gold in our Australian bank and your original fees will be returned. Now, take them where they can rest and bring them their things and anything they need."
Phoebe yawned. She said tiredly, "There is one more thing. We require a master arithmancer and runemaster for a project. If you can provide a pair that doesn't mind working with us and other ICW wizards and will sign an agreement that the result of our work is our own, then we can stop by and make more silver from time to time."
"What is this about?" asked Ragnok. "If you are willing to forgo that much profit it must be very important."
Celeste added, "Well you could take our deal, or you could come yourself and agree to secrecy. If you want in, well you could make us a deal instead."
"Fine. I will bring them. Where will you be?"
Harry said, "I'll give you the address of the Grangers in Australia. We need wards as well. I'll pay of course. Make sure they are the best they can legally get, but talk to them so it is what they want. I'm not sure if your group or the one in Australia…"
"It would be us," Ragnok insisted quickly.
Harry gave them the address. They were lead to a comfortable room with a bed for each of them. It contained an inner dead bolt and lock that they sealed and then magically sealed. The rest of their possessions were there.
Phoebe said softly, "We will sense it if they come, even asleep."
Harry nodded. "I don't think they mean us harm."
Mindee asked, "Can we sleep nearer each other?"
"What did you have in mind?" asked Harry tiredly.
"Maybe change it so it is one big bed and we can lay our heads next to each other?"
Harry pulled out his wand and then moved and transfigured the beds so it was basically one big round bed. He then replaced it and yawned. "I kind of half arsed that, so hopefully we wake before it wears off."
Harry was the first one to lay down and he was asleep before even taking off his slippers. They were still in the soft white robes and nothing else.
Mindee carefully removed his slippers even as Celeste curled in on one side and Phoebe in on another..
Mindee glared at them, though her expression wasn't particularly fierce. It seemed almost understanding.
Phoebe said softly, "I don't think he will really mind."
Mindee perked up, kicked off her slippers and every so carefully lay down on top of Harry with an arm over each of her sisters.
Harry woke when he felt the magic he had put into the bed began to dissipate.
He was warm. It was nice. He was so much warmer than he ever was before. He forced himself to not move even as he felt the girls on either side of him and of course Mindee on top of him.
It felt very nice. Bad thoughts Potter. Need to move before the transfiguration reverts and the girls are hurt.
Mindy yawned and carefully got off him. Celeste and Phoebe did as well.
Harry said, "Sorry, didn't mean to wake you all."
Phoebe said dryly, "I think not falling splat on the floor depending on how that transfiguration reverted was a good enough reason. Now did you enjoy your sleep?"
Harry blushed furiously. "Yes," he said quietly.
Celeste nodded.
Phoebe blushed, but covered it quickly by turning to get her she turned around, she asked, "Shall we go? We can get food once we are back in Australia."
Harry nodded. "We should change back to our normal clothes. I'll go stand in the corner."
Celeste said softly, "You know you aren't forbidden from looking. We share our deepest thoughts. We know you find us attractive both physically and emotionally. We also know you are not really ready to move on from Hermione."
"I got her killed," he said reflexively.
"No, she made her own choice." Celeste's voice was firm in this. "Do you think her less than you? Do you think she could not think for herself or did not know the consequences? If you do, be warned, do not do that with us."
Mindee sighed. "He doesn't. You know he doesn't. You just want him to get it through his stubborn head that she had the right and he should stop blaming himself and be proud of her actions instead. Esme cost us the loss of herself and our other sister, yet we still love them. Have feelings, but do not be ruled by them. We have not permitted any one of us to truly control our gestalt since we lost Esme and Sophie, nor will we do so. If during a gestalt one of us dies it will be our choice together. You must understand this."
"I'm sorry," Harry said.
Phoebe asked, "But will you stop? It is no hidden thing that I seek power. I will not allow them to control me again. I will kill anyone who tries, no matter what side they are on. Do you accept this?"
Harry laughed. "I started to say I do, but then it sound like a wedding in my head, so…" Phoebe glared at him. "I accept it. Okay?"
Phoebe smiled.
Mindee said, "Our link has always fascinated me. The ability to understand so much more. I have tried to see the patterns in things, to understand. Music is an obsession with me, but part of that is the beautiful patterns it makes."
Harry smiled and nodded.
Celeste said, "And while we are talking, my main concern is protecting you all, which is why you're attempts at taking blame that is not warranted concern me. It risks the, well, at the risk of making Mindee smile, it risks the harmony we have developed."
Mindee smiled and stuck her tongue out. Celeste rolled her eyes.
Celeste said, "We are all four in this together."
"Together," all four echoed.
Phoebe added, "Now lets see if we can get our tent of requirements project moving. Those things are going to make us so rich."
Mindee noted, "We are already rich."
Phoebe said, "There is always space for more money. Maybe we can get our own island?"
Mindee was thinking of making all the buildings on the island unique so the wind played a natural symphony. The others laughed before turning to her and nodding. They would do it, if they could.
Celeste led the others out of the room. There were guards stationed outside their door that led them to a room near the surface where they could leave by apparition.
Ragnok was there waiting for them. As were a dozen goblins, Bill, Fleur and their daughter.
Harry greeted them first. "Bill, it is good to see you. Did everything go well?"
"The money was fine. It was almost curse free, which surprised us. I suppose Lucius was very sure this location was safe. Harry, their were also a bunch of books and dark artifacts down in the cave. It would have cost a lot of money to gothrough it all, and been crazy risky besides. At any rate, I just didn't think it was worth it, so I burned it all."
Ragnok snorted.
Irritated Fleur said, "What my husband means to say is he will not play with Evil Sentient Fire any more, though at least he had the good sense to have backup."
"Yah. I really didn't anticipate it would grow that much. Whatever was left down there was dark as all hell."
Celeste asked concerned, "Are you quite sure it is finished?"
Bill said, "There is really no easy way to eliminate things like that. It will still take decades for the miasma to decay."
Ragnok said, "Curse breaker Weasley is correct. We could have done the job and had less contamination, but more than one goblin would have probably died from what I was told. As it is, the miasma should dissipate in time we made sure it was buried deep enough to give it that time. The Fiendfyre was risky, but it probably was the lesser risk."
Harry said, "Then I'm glad it was done this way, since at least no more lives were lost to that monster."
Around them the Goblins nodded in appreciation at his words.
Celeste said, "I believe we can manage to also take the three Weasleys should they wish to skip an international portkey."
Bill looked at his wife who nodded her ascent.
Ragnok said, "We will follow shortly. We can discuss costs for the warding once you tell me about this business opportunity."
The seven formed a circle and disappeared with a large crack of thunder.
Ragnok asked a few moments later, "Did we get a good reading on that?"
In the back an elderly goblin walked forward. "Sire, our initial readings read that as exceptionally skillful human apparition."
"Then how do they manage international?"
"There was only the one primary apparition signature, two working in concert as usual with side along apparition, and one carried. The noise was due to the passengers."
"Wait one? Does this explain how they managed that impossible bit of alchemy?"
"Yes."
"So we can't duplicate it?"
"Not at this time, no."
"Dang. Alright, lets get going. Remember when you ward you have to obey Australia's rules."
They all nodded before each activated their portkeys and began the seemingly endless spinning.
Harry and the others appeared with a soft pop not far from the front of the house.
Victoire said, "I no like that. Not do again."
Fleur said, "Trust me Victorie. It is far better than the alternative."
Victorie glared at her as if not believing her.
Bill chuckled.
The Grangers walked out their front porch.
Emma said, "Welcome home Harry, Celeste, Phoebe, Mindee. Welcome everyone. Will you introduce me to your guests?"
Celeste introduced everyone and then Ragnok's group arrived.
Harry said, "They are with us."
Emma blinked.
Dan said, "Well, can you introduce us to the rest of your guests?"
Celeste did so.
Dan said, "So free magical wards that protect us huh?"
Harry shrugged. "The cost is not an issue. The main thing is to get what you want, which means figuring out where you would like to balance safety and security."
Dan nodded.
Phoebe said hesitantly, "It is likely that people will eventually come to use or kill us. We are much stronger together than your daughter or Harry was..." All three girls watched Harry carefully.
Emma asked, "What is that about? Did Harry do something?"
Dan looked at Harry as well. "No, he said. If your thinking of doing something like our daughter did, such as leaving for our safety, then no."
Harry said, "I wasn't…"
All three sisters said, "Yes you were."
Harry huffed. "Well I wasn't going to actually say it."
"True," all three said in stereo. "He does learn."
Dan said, "You know Harry at times I don't know whether to envy you or pity you."
"Envy I think," Harry said softly.
"How so?"
"I lived, when I should have died, so many times. I got to know your wonderful daughter and spend so much time with her and then when it was darkest I got to know these three." He pulled each into a hug one at a time starting with Phoebe and ending with Celeste before they finished with a group hug.
Dan swallowed but didn't comment further. He instead got up and hugged his wife as if she was the most precious thing in the universe.
Ragnok explored their tent of requirement in wonder while they pair he brought went over all the notes on its construction.
After they exited back into the light of the warm Australian day he said, "Remarkable. I believe you are correct. With the destruction of the room of requirement at Hogwarts this may be unique."
Celeste pointed out, "Professor Charles Xavier has something called the Danger Room that can simulate a few environments, but it takes painstaking programming to create any of them. This works on thoughts alone."
Ragnok's eyes widened. "I had no idea such was possible with muggle technology."
Phoebe added, "It is possible, but the underlying technology is actually pretty dangerous so its not the kind of thing Charles can easily release."
Ragnok's guests walked up to him. "Let me introduce Danok and Garnok. Both are excellent at arithmancy and runic languages, though Danok is slightly better at arithmancy and Garnok is the runic expert."
All four said, "It is an honor to meet you."
Danok and Garnok said, "That you for inviting us."
Ragnok turned to them. "Now that you have looked over things, what is your initial assesment?"
"Sire," Danok said. "The notes on the creation of this artifact are complete and detailed. We have found one or two things that may be a mistake, but it is very difficult to be certain, since in at least one case the expected effect may have stabilized another area. Sire, this is very complex work. It will take considerable time to work through it, and, unfortunately the underlying principles involved do not truly simplify, not even as much as shown in the work. We fully understand why the builder used those approximations since otherwise it would be impossible for anyone to solve so many unknowns simultaneously."
Garnok added, "Basically, if we want the magical power draw stabilized, we must come up with a more perfect solution. Sire, I reiterate this will not be easy. The human who did this well is at least our equal."
The last was said grudgingly but it was said.
"I see," said Ragnok. He turned to the four. "If we solve this, what are your plans?"
Harry shrugged. "I'm fine with letting anyone who put the effort in to have a copy. Frankly, I'd like to keep cooperating on this. I still don't know how the founders made a better version of this. It seems impossible."
Ragnok said, "My concern, if this as hard as they say it is, is that it will pull them away from other work I need of them for and we ultimately won't make progress. I'm willing to do it anyway, particularly for your help with the silver. It would, however, be nice to have a bit more to go on. It might take dozens of goblins to verify every major arithmancy change, particularly when they remove the simplifications."
Phoebe asked curiously, "Why not just use a computer?"
Ragnok stilled. He turned to Darnok.
Darnok said, "Sire, I do not know the answer, but I feel this is very important. If what little I know of computers is true and they can be used to help solve advance arithmancy problems… Sire, I beg you, allow us to pursue this."
Ragnok nodded soberly. "Your request is approved. Your expenses, within reason, are authorized. I do not know where you will find a computer or how to use one. I shall leave it to you."
He then turned to Harry. "I would prefer if you would ask if the Grangers would permit your name to be added to the would increase the level of warding I can provide to protect you and this project considerably." The last word was given significant intonation.
Harry said, "Well, I'm game if they are. I don't want it to look like I'm trying to take their property though."
Ragnok snorted. "We can put whatever we want in the contract. The Grangers can retain all legal rights. The magical government just wants to be sure that someone magical is going to be responsible for this level of warding, so technically you would be the one in charge of that, though again we could require their approval to make changes."
Harry nodded. "Whatever it takes, but they have final say."
Ragnok nodded.
"So," Dan said. "The thing with owning part of the ground can only be a technicality."
Harry nodded. "We can also buy another piece of property if you want. Ward this one to the max it is legal to do, then do the work on another. It isn't quite as good, since you would be at greater risk."
"No." Dan looked at his wife who nodded. "Let's get this done right. We are not losing anyone else through lack of care."
Mindee said softly, "Thank you. We were so worried for you."
Harry echoed, "Thanks. We really do appreciate it."
Celeste asked, "Would either or both of you like to spend a day, or rather evening there in New York? We are going to talk with Charles."
Emma asked, "You can do that? Just pop across the world?"
They all nodded at once.
Emma rolled her eyes.
Dan noted, "Well it is a Saturday."
Emma asked, "What about the security on things? Getting the wards started and all that?"
Harry said, "I'll send Ragnok a message to ask him to get the ball moving. You will eventually have to sign something, but it should be minor."
"Oh, well that was easier than I expected," muttered Emma.
Dan said, "That was nothing compared to the two months of headaches getting a loan with good credit took."
Harry asked, "You still have a loan?"
"It is not a problem," Dan said.
The four's eyes flashed breifly. He said, "Actually, from what we know it is a problem. Since technically, it means your loan holder owns the property. I'll ask Ragnok to pay whatever it is from my account."
"We can't ask you to do that," Emma insisted.
Phoebe said, "To us, it isa trivial sum, and if this place isn't paid for, the protections can't be placed. We still have the ICW guards, but likely not forever. Please, this is important."
Dan sighed. "Okay, but this is your home too."
Mindee walked up to him and gave him a gentle hug. She then repeated it with his wife. Celeste, Phoebe, and Harry repeated her actions.
Harry said softly, "Thank you."
They appeared just outside of Charles' office. From inside they heard, "Come in."
Harry opened the door and they filed in.
"Hello Harry, Celeste, Phoebe, Mindee, Dan, Emma."
They returned his greeting. Charles asked, "I'm curious, why are you all here?"
Celeste said, "Dan and Emma wanted to visit New York. I thought perhaps I could take them around, perhaps with some help from someone here?"
Charles said, "Jean and Storm were considering a shopping day tomorrow, but it is a bit late today. Still you could easily go find them."
Celeste smiled and pulled Emma with her back to the door.
Emma asked, "Wait, don't we need to know where they are?"
Celeste said, "I would know Jean's mind from miles away. Ororo's too for that matter."
"If your sure."
"I am."
Dan look amused, but followed them out nonetheless.
After they left an amused Charles asked, "Well?"
Phoebe said, "We came to ask for your help, though Hank may be an equally good choice."
"Shall we go to his workroom?"
Harry said, "Please. We think you may be interested in our project as well."
Hank listened carefully as they explained what they needed. "So you need someone to translate magical calculations into a computer model to solve a magical engineering problem?"
Harry nodded.
Charles said, "And you can make a place like the Danger Room, though that doesn't necessary require a fortune in equipment and redundancies to stay safe?"
Phoebe said, "If we get it all to work, then yes. We aren't sure how much magic will be required to run it, but the potential is interesting."
"Why?" Charles asked.
The others looked at him surprised.
Charles continued, "Oh I don't mean why is it an interesting project, I mean why are you doing it beyond that?"
Mindee asked, "Can you not tell?"
"I have a few guesses."
Mindee said, "We could show you?"
"Is that why Celeste left, so I would be less wary with the remaining people?"
Harry replied. "Not really, though it did occur to us. Celeste knew the Grangers really did want to see New York, and it was her way of making sure they were safe. If there is a problem, we can be there quickly."
Mindee piped in, "Besides, she wanted to go shopping too."
Harry said, "Our final plan is pretty unlikely, but we are trying it anyway. We will let you lift it from my mind if you want."
Charles concentrated for several minutes. When he was finished he asked, "Do you really think you can pull it off?"
Phoebe answered, "We don't know, but there are lots of possibilities that are short of our plan."
Charles nodded solemnly.
Hank asked, "Care to share with the class?"
Charles said, "Hank does have a point. He does have a fair amount of resistance against mental intrusion."
Mindee asked, "Can I check, just by myself? He will be presumably be near people in the future who might be able to read his mind, and some of this could potentially be dangerous."
Hank said, "Okay."
Mindee's eyes glowed dimly as she starred at Hank. She focused on Hank for several minutes. She then looked down and released her hold on her power. She looked back up at Hank and smiled. "Your shields are decent, though I think I could have gotten through had I been willing to cause actual harm. Against any two of us, they would fail. Against more, and you would not even know we were there."
Hank said, "But aren't telepaths of your caliber exceedingly rare?"
Harry said, "There are also a handful of wizards around the world that could do it as well, but your right, it is rare." Harry shrugged. "We withdraw our objection. Charles, could you show him?"
"Hank?" Charles asked.
"Why use words? They have served me so well." Hank sighed. "Go ahead Charles."
"I think you will like this Hank." Charles focused on Hank and several seconds later Hanks' more than human features curled into a smile. A few minutes later and it was done.
Hank said, "You have ambitious dreams."
Phoebe said, "That we do, but will you help us achieve them?"
"I'll help, but there are a lot of unknowns and a lot of risk. What you are making could be very dangerous, one way, or another."
All four said, "We understand this."
"I suppose you do at that."
The quartet added softly, "Doing nothing is also dangerous."
Hank and the professor considered their words.
The professor rolled his chair over to look out the window, seeing all the young people he had committed his life into protecting. He spoke quietly, yet clearly, "Your idea has merit. It may even work to one extent or another." He wheeled back around and faced them. "I'm proud of you all."
"Thank you professor," Phoebe said, speaking for them all.
Hank asked, "Charles, can I use work from here?"
"Keep me posted and use your own judgment."
"Of course."
Mindee added, "Fleur should have your potion ready tomorrow. You will either have to go there, so she can administer it, or she could come here, though we will have to stay close in that event."
"Why is that?" Hank asked.
Mindee replied, "Fleur said that the risk of something unexpected happening was slightly greater with a non magical. She had to be able to get you to expert care quickly if something were to go wrong."
Charles said, "Well most outpatient procedures have the same requirement, so that makes sense. I will go with you, so I can help with some of the initial work."
Harry said, "We will be glad to have you."
Charles asked, "Could you give me or Hank the required understanding of magic to be of more help?"
Phoebe said, "If Celeste was here, we could do something like that, but, for the purposes that we doubt our knowledge or rather Harry's knowledge will truly help you."
Mindee added, "He views magic more as art than science."
Harry said, "It was Hermione that could have done it. If we have her with us, so much more would be possible." Mindee wiped a tear from his eye and gently hugged him.
Phoebe said, "We did, however bring a few books. Together we can make greater use of what Harry does know."
Hank said, "Well, let's take a look."
In another part of Charles' home another blonde smiled a small smile even as Jean turned the page in a fashion magazine. The Grangers and Ororo were nowhere in sight.
Jean turned to her. "You are always together, even this far away aren't you?"
Celeste nodded.
"So, have you kissed him yet?" mused Jean.
Celeste's cheeks pinked before smoothing out. She said softly, "We are together, but there are always parts of us kept separate."
"And?"
"He loved Hermione Granger far more than his own life as she did him. The things he did, he did for her. He still does, in a way, even though she is gone."
"Ah, I think I understand. You can feel his feelings for you, for all of you, but they are not what he felt for her."
"No, they are not," she replied softly.
"Do you think that will change?" asked Jean cautiously.
"We hope it will. He cares for us. He is quite fond of us in fact, as we are of him."
"So, all three of you huh?" said an amused Jean.
"Perhaps. Perhaps not. Were our feelings for him as strong as those he had for Hermione, well we could not hide that. It would be simpler in some ways were we not linked. Now we just have to hope not to screw it up somehow."
Jean said, "Well if you ever need a girl to gossip with, I'm here."
Celeste's eyes glowed for a moment and her voice became oddly harmonic. "Thanks Jean." Her eyes faded back to normal. She asked, "Now what about you? Did you ever decide between Scott and Logan. Somehow, I don't think they are going to share."
Jean blushed. "I know what you mean. If either were a telepath, but they are not, and both are well boys more often than not." She said the word boys like a curse.
"Just remember what is important. We will never be the same with the loss of Esmee and Sophee. In some ways it seems we will never be what we could have been if Hermione could have lived. Our bond with Harry was a once in a lifetime event. Had Harry not been weakened. Had we not pushed ourselves far too far to try to save him. Had we even been a bit later... Life is strange."
"Yah, but onto the more pressing question, do you have enough clothes where you are? Perhaps you want something to catch a certain someone's attention?"
"Not really."
"What?" asked Jean.
"None of us will accept less than what we know is now possible. We will have his heart truly, and he ours, before the rest."
"Gee, you make me feel all guilty," muttered Jean.
"You and?"
"I'm not saying!" stated Jean firmly.
"I could pick the thoughts from your boyfriends head. It would be so easy to do. Hard to avoid in truth, though mutants are a little better at shielding."
"You had better not," exclaimed Jean.
"We will do our best not to."
Jean nodded. "So clothes?"
"We do need to purchase some, mostly for Harry."
"We get to play dress up with…"
Celeste glared at her.
"Relax Celeste. I'm rooting for you, for all of you. I know, it can't be easy."
"It is not."
Jean enfolded the young woman in her arms and they ended up laying back in a comfy chair and falling asleep.
