Hi guys! Welcome to my new story! I am really excited about it. I have been reading a lot of non-canon fanfics lately and decided to try my hand at it. This first chapter is a little short, and I am not quite sure how long I will make the following chapters. Please let me know what you think of it so far and feel free to give any suggestions. Happy reading!

Brittany sat at the corner table in her favorite cafe. Out of all the cafes in New York, this place had hands down the best hot chocolate. As Brittany sipped on her chocolaty drink, she listened to the story she was being told. Brittany's boyfriend, Stefan, sat across from her and was telling her about his shitty day at work. Stefan is an accountant, and apparently, they were out of black pens at work so he had to write in blue which was completely unprofessional. At this point, Brittany was half-listening to his story and half imagining everybody in Stefan's firm writing with unicorn rainbow pens.

"Why are you smiling? Are you listening to me?" Stefan asked. He sounded somewhere between amused and irritated.

"Oh," Brittany slightly blushed at being caught not paying attention. "Um, I was just thinking about how it would be interesting to see your company's balance sheets in rainbow print."

Stefan rolled his eyes at her comment. "Of course you would find it amusing, but that's actually quite immature." Brittany scrunched her brows at his comment and was about to reply when he spoke up again. "When you have a real job like me, you can't live in a world full of rainbows and ducks, Brittany." She wanted to protest that she had a real job too, but she knew better than to argue with Stefan. Instead, she put her cup back to her lips and nodded, suppressing her hurt.

After hearing Stefan go on and on about boring accounting stuff, he excused himself to the bathroom. He left Brittany and his black coffee as he walked off to the back of the cafe. As soon as he was out of sight, the coffee shop door opened with a ring. Brittany glanced to see who it was and almost spit out the drink she had in her mouth. The person who entered she hadn't spoken to or seen in years.

FIVE YEARS EARLIER:

"How is New York?" Brittany asked eagerly.

"It's….. different than I thought." Santana brushed the hair out of her face as she looked at Brittany through Skype.

"Different in a good way or bad way?" Brittany bit her bottom lip awaiting Santana's reply. When she was met with nothing but silence she spoke up. "So I'm guessing that means bad," Brittany said. Santana let out a nervous laugh as she shook her head.

"It's not that bad, I just thought I would have booked a gig by now." Brittany could hear the disappointment in Santana's voice which made her feel a bit guilty. After all, she was the one who pushed Santana to go to New York to fulfill her dream of being a big star. But hearing that things were not going so great for her broke Brittany's heart. She knew Santana was probably feeling lost and disappointed.

"Well guess what?" Brittany replied. "I know this really talented girl who has the best voice I have ever heard. She is a fantabulous performer and the most confident person I know."

"Brit-" Santana tried to protest but Brittany cut her off.

"Her name is Santana Diabla Lopez and I have never known her to give up. Whenever someone tells her she can't do something, she does it but standing on one foot and blindfolded. And when someone kicks her down, she kicks them right back and then stomps on them." Brittany looked at Santana hoping she would get what she was trying to say. When she was met with a smile she continued. "I believe in you, Santana. Don't let one rejection or bad audition deter you from success. You were born to be a star. I know it, you know it, and soon the whole world will know it too." Santana let Brittany's word really sink in. She was right. She is Santana "Fucking" Lopez and she can't be put down. All she could do was smile at the genius blonde on her screen.

"You know it's funny. I spend months tangled up in knots and in five minutes you straighten me out. You really are a genius." Santana smiled at her ex-girlfriend. Though they weren't together anymore, it was still good to know she could always talk to her and get the advice she needed; the advice that only her Britt Britt could give her. Brittany smiled.

"I'm just the world's foremost expert in the field of Santana Lopez." They both just sat there looking at one another when suddenly Brittany blurted out. "Oh my God, look at the time! It's already 5 o'clock. You're gonna be late for your audition!"

"Oh shit. You're right!" Santana began to panic. She had this important audition for Golden L.A. Records that she could not afford to miss. "Oh, Brittany I gotta go!" she said sympathetically.

"It's okay. Good luck at your audition, Superstar! You're gonna kill it. I know it." Santana smiled at her biggest cheerleader.

"Thanks, Britt Britt." Her heart swelled knowing she had someone on her side that believed in her as much as Brittany did.

"Call me after and tell me how it goes, okay?" Brittany asked.

"Okay, I promise. I gotta go now or I'll be late. Bye!" Santana hung up and left Brittany staring at her own reflection.

"I love you," Brittany said to the black screen.

FIVE YEARS LATER:

Brittany thinks back to the time they last talked and how she would wait and wait for Santana to call. But, she never did. Brittany tried to make sense of it. She told herself that Santana was busy being famous and that was a good thing. She was out doing what she was meant to do; what she loved, even if that wasn't with Brittany. She was proud. Still, Brittany felt hurt though that she didn't even bother to leave a text.

So, when Brittany saw Santana walk through the doors of the Big Leaf coffee shop, her heart almost fell out of her chest. All she could do was stare. It didn't take long for Santana to notice Brittany in the corner and her jaw dropped. It wasn't until she was standing next to Brittany's table that she realized she had even walked over to her. For a good minute, neither of them said anything. Finally, Brittany broke the unbearable silence.

"Hi."
