I wrote this during creative writing. We did 5 minute fiction stories, and I wrote all of mine into one story -well, two, but the other comes later- which is why the story is so weird. I may add to it, as it ends abruptly, but I may not. Enjoy.

Inara struggles with coming and going, and Simon is creating a reason to stay. For the most part, this story is set just long enough after Caveats and Addendums that the dust has had time to settle somewhat.

A character study of Inara in Serenity, and how she uses whatever she has to its fullest extent in order to care for her friends.

A Companion's job lies in becoming whatever is necessary, and Inara has always been good at adaptation.

Inara faces a life changing event will Mal and the crew stand with her or will she run

Dustee OC comes aboard Serenity, she's from the Academy. Will River remember her? How will the crew take her? Her motives are not clear. In later chapters there will be pairings Jayne/OC, Mal/Inara, Zoe/?, Simon/Kaylee, River/?, plus OC pairings

Mal and Jayne never fully discussed what would happen when the money was too good.

One time that Kaylee told River to go away.

Mal has a good old fashioned smuggling job lined up, which shouldn't be anything to do with Wash, because he's fired.

Set before the episode War Stories. Wash thinks about the stories of his war.

River goes with Jayne to collect some money that they're owed.

River is scary, but she thought that Jayne wouldn't be afraid.

River, Jayne, Kaylee, and Simon are allowed off Serenity to do some shopping, but River is somewhat peeved that she's never allowed out on her own. Set after the BDM

Post BDM. The survivors of Miranda are laying low, taking small jobs for food and fuel, but their infamy reaches further than they think and avoiding the Alliance is becoming even more troublesome than usual.

Mal and Inara are fighting once again … until Kaylee gives them some unintentional advice. Stand-alone story.

A short conversation between Simon and Jayne leaves the former man wondering why he even bothers trying to understand the inner workings of the mind of Serenity's resident mercenary. JaynexSimon if you squint and tilt your head to the left.
