AU future in which the Initiative hasn't completely gone away, but is tired of keeping Ethan. Giles is offered the opportunity to take responsibility for the mage and he accepts to prevent them from killing his old friend/lover/enemy. He takes Buffy with him and she finds a couple of surprises in the other cells. Giles ponders what to do with Ethan now that he's free...

List of fan tropes/cliches/incongruencies that get on my nerves. Though some of it is a bit hypocritical as I've used them too, lol

An AU twist on the events after "The Gift" in which Xander and Spike end up being Dawn's primary caretakers. Closeness ensues, but this is just UST and friendship more than anything else.

Giles lives in books and words, and knows they change through time. It doesn't mean he always agrees with the changes.
