Chapter one

Bad dreams

Cynder was used to having bad dreams. It is common for beings who were brought up in the dark to understand bad dreams as the norm. But that night, Cynder could see things that even gave her nightmares.

At first, she saw a park. A normal, bone-dry park. But suddenly, dark clouds were covering the landscape, cold wind was picking up around the whole area and it started to rain so fast that soon every living soul was drenched in the downpour. This part was ok for Cynder, after all, she had seen mass destruction multiple times in her life, some caused by her herself, it was what happened afterwards that made her scales crawl and her blood run cold. Two boys sought shelter from the rain in an underpass, one was a rather wide-but-strong boy with dark brown hair, the other was lankier and had jet-black hair as well as a slightly visible scar in the shape of a lightning bolt. Cynder may not have recognised the first boy, but she knew who the other one was, at that point she knew something bad was happening. It was now so cold that she could see their breath, then suddenly, a black cloaked humanoid monster appeared. It pinned the skinny boy to the wall, whilst another flew into the underpass and pinned the other boy to the ground! It then seemed like the monsters were sucking the air around the boy's faces, and Cynder recognised this action all too well! They were sucking out the souls of those two boys! She could then feel something shaking her, and suddenly her eyes snapped open.

"Harry!" she exclaimed, sounding out of breath.

She looked around and could see that she was right where she had fallen asleep, by the fireplace of the main living quarters of number 12 Grimmauld Place, and right next to her was her first friend/boyfriend, Spyro.

"Cynder!" the Purple dragon sighed in relief, "what happened? Was it him?", Cynder knew who Spyro was talking about, and was glad that it wasn't him. The being in question was, in truth, what used to be Cynder's father, Malefor, and he was as evil as they come. But about a month ago, he had merged bodies with the evilest wizard on Earth, Voldemort, and so the two of them had turned into a creature that the two dragons called, The Dark Lord and Master.

"No, it isn't him." She reassured her friend, "but something is attacking Harry!"

Harry Potter was a friend of the dragons, they had met about nine months ago and they had all watched as Malefor and Voldemort were resurrected. They had even been unwilling participants in the resurrection, Harry's Blood, Cynder's Choker, and one of Spyro's scales had all been used to bring the monsters back. The dragons had also become good friends with Harry's friends, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Rubeus Hagrid. They also had an old friend with them, Sparx, Spyro's adoptive dragonfly brother had been unintentionally summoned to this new world, but lucky for them all, a boy called Charly Weasley was willing to give them a home. A few weeks ago, all the Weasleys had been invited to stay in this gloomy house, and the dragons and the dragonfly had agreed to come along as well.

After arriving, the dragons met an odd group of people who also shared the house, there was; the real Alastor Moody, Hermione, a tall, bald, black wizard called Kingsley Shacklebolt, a young witch with a pale heart-shaped face who went by the name of Tonks, a man with a pale face with premature lines, and light brown hair called Remus Lupin, and their host was an unshaven man with long brown hair a gaunt, sunken face, waxy skin and yellow teeth, this man was called Sirius Black. Every now and again the house would be visited by two people who Spyro and Cynder knew rather well, Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape.

With Dumbledore not being there that night, Cynder and Spyro decided it was worth the risk to go and wake up Moody. The Auror had openly announced his belief in Cynder's dreams being visions, but he really hated it when someone woke him up in the middle of the night. The dragons carefully made their way up the stairs, until they finally made it to Moody's room. Spyro rapped against the door with his paw, and the door was flung open and standing before them was Mad-Eye Moody himself. He looked down at the dragons and his "mad eye" seemed to be looking right into their souls,

"whatdoyouwant!" he snapped "if this is to do with Potter, then you are a little late for that!" he then exited his room and hobbled downstairs, walking stick in hand. The Dragons were curious and so followed the Auror back downstairs. And it was then that they realised that the whole house was up and in the dining room, even Ron, Hermione and Sparx were there!

"About time you two got up!" Ron exclaimed,

"Was Harry attacked?" Cynder asked, dreading that she was correct,

"Yes!" Hermione responded, sounding appalled, "and because Harry defended himself and his cousin, the ministry wants to have him expelled from Hogwarts!"

"Not yet he's not!" Moody growled before banging his walking stick on the floor to silence everyone, "Dumbledore will sort this issue out!" he announced, "but right now we need to get Potter under our protection, if Dementors were to attack him on Muggle ground again, then the ministry might go with a worse punishment. Now, a small group should go to retrieve Potter from Privet Drive, so, Shacklebolt, Tonks, Lupin, you three will come with me to get the boy here alive, the rest of you stay here!" Cynder quickly leaped up to Moody and said with a smile,

"Moody, I volunteer…"

"I've told you before Cynder," Moody snapped back "no Dragons or any other animals leave this house until I say so!"

"I know, I was actually going to volunteer Sparx to go with you." Cynder pointed out, her grin growing wider as she saw the Dragonfly's face at this, she loved making Sparx uncomfortable, it was the only part of her dark past that she embraced.

"We could use a light to guide us in the air" Moody agreed, "Dragonfly! You come with us!" Sparx shot Cynder a look that clearly said that she had gotten on his nerves, so Cynder just smiled as the dragonfly followed Mad-Eye. All jokes aside though, she knew that the Ministry was hiding Voldemort's return, and had every newspaper stating that Harry, Dumbledore and even she and Spyro were lying about this, so she was feeling like this attack wasn't random, and the ministry might have something to do with it.
