The fairy tale of their love seemed so much nicer than the reality of it. Their lives existed so much without the other that they felt more apart than before they were married.

Thus Bilbo minds himself in Erebor before Smaug has even attacked, but will one hobbit be enough to make a difference? This will be slash, probably of the Bilbo/Thorin variety.
