After Aang was frozen in the iceberg, the Fire Nation launched a devastating attack on the Air Nation. The remnants of the genocide are left to survive; confused and wondering where their Avatar has gone.

This is an essay that I put on Spacebattles and rewrote as a draft of an in-universe op-ed. The story it's linked to is a crossover between Star Trek and Avatar: The Last Airbender, but it's a general exploration of Azula's character more broadly so you don't have to read the original story to understand what I'm getting at.

Three years after the war, Katara is studying healing in the North Pole when an incident abruptly makes her leave. Lost in a spiral of grief and guilt, she takes a detour into the Fire Nation alone, not willing to let her friends and family see her at her worst. When Zuko finds out she is missing he takes a trip to the North Pole to try and unravel the mystery Katara left behind.

One quiet morning, Katara and Zuko discover the answers they never knew they were looking for.

Kataang. The story starts after the end of the episode 16 "The Southern Raiders" from Book Three: Fire and supplements next episodes. Aang is uncertain of Katara's feelings for him. She is uncertain of what she has become because of the bloodbending. Oh, and they both don't know if they'll survive the war either.

I sit in the river, tears streaking my face. Red swirls in the water around me, out of my control. I’ve lost it. Katara misscaries, and no one knew she was pregnant. Her and Aang are forced to discuss their future. The loss hits Sokka harder than Suki expected, and he won’t open up as to why. Jealousy strikes, and actions hit close to home. (Bad summary sorry)

When Katara leaves her home and everything she's ever known in the South Pole to follow her dreams as a singer in Republic City, she is faced with some struggles as she starts her new life.
