Chapter 6

Rosalie Hale

[Author's Note: I'm sorry if the beginning reads slow at all. I want it to be a slow burn to what will eventually happen.. Then it'll get heavy very fast. I've already got some of that written and..wooo… let me tell you.. It's spiiiiicyyyy. But here's another short one. The next one will be a little longer! Thanks again for your reviews!]

"It's absolutely fascinating," Carlisle replied calmly, gazing out at the land behind his house, the fingers of one hand twinned easily through his wife's. "Never in my nearly three hundred and sixty years.."

"It's frustrating," Rosalie expressed, standing stock still behind them. "It makes me feel powerless and weak." She looked to her brother and her sister, who sat on one end of the patio, wrapped up in one another. "It has to bother you two. I can't imagine how it wouldn't."

"Bother?" Edward replied, "I wouldn't use bother to describe it. Fascinating, as Carlisle said, would be a better word choice."

"Hmm," Esme expressed, her warm, soft tone blanketing the tense conversation. "I too find it very interesting. And when you returned to her.. Did you sense any otherness about her? Are you absolutely sure she is a human?" Esme was referring to the other supernatural beings they'd come across- werewolves and half-vampires from South America.

"She was a human," Rosalie stated simply.

Edward nodded. "100%. Her blood.. Sang for Rose."

Carlisle turned then, from his post, bringing his bride with him, so that he could wrap his slender arms around her waist. "A Cantante?" he asked. When Edward nodded he looked to his daughter with kind eyes. "You were very brave, Rose."

"That's what Alice said," the blonde quipped, annoyed. "But I don't feel brave. I feel.. Irritated, to put it very simply."

"I didn't see it happening, but I could see the after effects," Alice offered then, her head leaning against Edward's, one hand petting his jaw lovingly. "I saw Edward and Rosalie fighting about something that happened but I had no idea what that something was."

"It's as though the girl has some kind of protection spell on her," Carlisle mused openly. He said to his son, "When you returned to her, did Rosalie consider-"

Edward shook his head and cut him off. "No. She had considered it in the clearing but not when we returned. She only wanted to understand. There was no violence driving her."

The elder vampire smiled warmly at his older daughter. "Very good Rose. I've always said that you have amazing composure." He cleared his throat, "Edward, would you say that Rose poses a threat to the woman in the forest?"

"I'm right here," the blonde mouthed, grumpily.

Edward smiled at her and then to his father he replied, "No. I don't."

The doctor slid away from his wife and crossed the deck to Rosalie. He put one hand on her jaw and brought her face up to look into his eyes, which were nearly the same honey tone as her own. "Then, I will make the suggestion that you return," he told her. "And solve the mystery for us." He smiled warmly and dropped his hand, choosing instead to squeeze his daughter's fingers lovingly. "Besides," he gave her a small wink, "It will do you some good to be around someone you can't charm for a change."
