Harry Potter and the Rocky Mountain school of Magic ch.4

A/N; More accurately this is Chapter Three, part two.

Disclaimer: J.K. Rowling owns the rights to Harry Potter and I'm not her.

Over the following three months Harry and Hermione studied together with the help of Andromeda, The Weasley's and Professor Flitwick.

Hermione had been offered many schooling options but chose The Western Australia Academy of Magic, to be closer to her parents. After having their memories returned, the Granger's had decided they liked Australia and had opted to stay. Australia also required magical students to complete a non-magical education and offered further education at university rather than Britain's rather barbaric apprenticeship systems.

Harry had signed up for night school. Three nights and week he studied for his GCSEs. The other two evenings he took a Japanese language class. He had bought the Silver-Tongues course as recommended but he needed people to practice with.

The Silver-Tongues course did in fact make learning the language easy. The course consisted of sixty, one hour classes recorded on a crystal that projected a video-like image onto the wall. Sixty doses of a speech center specific wit sharpening potion and a recommendation to watch, listen and read any Japanese media he could get his hands on.

During this time period he saw very little of Ron, who was pulling sixty plus hours a week with George. Between Harry's schooling and Ron's work they were never available at the same time.

Ginny and Harry briefly got back together but when Ginny learned she would be heading to Castellobruxo in Brazil while Harry was going to Japan, they recognized they would hardly be able to see each other over the next two years and broke up amicably. They promised each other to try again when they finished school, a promise neither of them would keep.

Harry had come to the attention of Queen Elizabeth following Kingsley's brief to the Prime Minister. This led to Neville, Hermione, Ron and Himself being awarded the George Cross and Harry alone being knighted.

Due to the break in at Gringotts, the goblins had seized his vaults but upon hearing this, the crown intervened. Now Harry was banned from Gringotts for life and his monetary assets had been converted, sitting safely in Coutts bank.

He had a few pieces of property. A one hundred acre tract of land in Bethesda, Wales. That had once held the Potter farms. The house had burned down in 1978 and his father had leased the property to the neighboring farmer for fifty years, providing him with a small income. Harry had been livid when he found out that the Ministry had seized his parents house in Godric's Hollow, yet still charged him property taxes annually. He, on Andromeda's recommendation, hired a barrister who helped him regain the property. In all honesty Kingsley had been equally angry upon hearing about it and immediately began the paperwork to give the house back.

There had been little in the home that hadn't been destroyed by being exposed to the elements for the last seventeen years but he had gotten his mother's jewelry box, a number of photo albums, a small box of letters between his mother and her parents. There was a warded bookcase full of treasures. Four family grimoires for Potter, Fleamont, Smythe and Peverell families. These would become his most treasured possessions. They detailed family history, containing spells and potions his family had invented. The final page of the Potter Grimoire had included notes from his mother and father.

Harry had been both surprised and delighted when he learned that more than twenty countries had had bounties up for Lord Voldemort and selected followers. He had been given nearly five million galleons and Molly Weasley was awarded two million for killing Bellatrix Lestrange.

Besides furthering his education Harry had consulted with both healers and a muggle doctor. He now had a personal trainer and dietitian helping him get healthy. By the time Hermione had left in September, he had already gained eighteen pounds and could run two miles before collapsing from exhaustion.

He'd started weight training, he could only bench press sixty pounds but it was a start. In addition to weight training and running, he took lessons in Krav Maga and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. One afternoon at the gym, seeing a large group of very attractive women leaving one of the studios, he'd signed up for yoga and dropped it again after his first lesson left him sore for a week.

Harry in those months before heading to Mahoutokoro, got to know Andromeda Tonks and his godson Teddy Lupin.

Andromeda Tonks, a recently retired mind healer, had seen Harry struggling to deal with the fallout from the war. He was obviously suffering from PTSD and showed the signs of survivor's guilt. She had taken it upon herself to treat the young man.

He was eager and very helpful when it came to caring for her grandson. His protectiveness of the boy was heartfelt but also worrying to the skilled healer. As such she began teaching Harry occlumency and relaxation techniques before trying to counsel him. Though reluctant at first, he had quickly seen the benefits and taken to it like a duck to water.

By the time he left for Japan, they had a familial type relationship. Andy being like a favorite aunt and little Teddy like a baby brother.

Harry's time in the Empire of Japan had been such an eye opener. Japanese magicals were still loyal to the emperor and he was their supreme authority. He appointed the Minister of Magic and received daily reports of the goings on of the magical community.

Upon arriving at the international portkey terminal, Harry had been taken directly to the palace. All magical entering Japan had to swear an oath and sign a magical contract that stated; A.) They would not knowingly engage in any illegal activities. B.) Would cause no intentional harm to Japanese citizens or property unless in self-defense or the defense of others. C.) If they had to defend themselves or others, they would use the least amount of force required. And D.) In the case of natural or man-made disasters, visitors would do all in their power to protect and/or rescue Japanese citizens, disregarding the statute of secrecy if necessary.

After the oath was taken and the contract signed, a tea ceremony was performed to welcome him to the country. The Emperor spoke with him briefly congratulating Harry on his defeat of Lord Voldemort and his subsequent Order of Merlin and Knighthood. The Emperor also asked after Professors McGonagall and Flitwick, having met them sometime in the past.

Nearly every aspect of magical education was different in Japan. Mahoutokoro was a day school with seven separate campuses throughout the country. The main campus was housed in an older but nondescript building on the outskirts of Tokyo. This held the administration offices, the school hospital, four potions labs and the library. The campuses were linked together by portals that caused a feeling of forced apparition. It was uncomfortable but fast.

Foreign students like himself had to live with a local family for the first semester. This was to ensure they understood the customs and unspoken rules of Japanese society. Harry was assigned to a local blacksmith named Kenji Yamakura. Kenji was in his early eighties and had three sons, two lived abroad but his youngest Makoto or 'Mac' worked at his smithy with him.

Kenji's home and smithy were located in the magical enclave of Kokubu on the outskirts of Osaka.

Harry was given room and board in exchange for helping in the smithy three nights a week. Within just three nights of working at the smithy he had been hooked. There was something cathartic about pounding and shaping metal that just appealed to him. Although he had very little free time given his course load, he spent many extra hours helping and learning the craft from the old man. When he had completed his first piece, a small kitchen knife, the pride he felt sparked a lifelong hobby and occasional side business.

Harry besides achieving his highschool diploma, chose to continue his studies in Potions, Defense, Charms, Transfiguration, Herbology and healing. Plus the prerequisites of Arithmancy, Magical theory and Calligraphy.

Mahoutokoro offered a Mastery program which was an additional two years of study after NEWTs. Harry would go on to achieve Mastery in Charms and Defense and NEWTs in the rest. Having had to live in Japan for three years to achieve this.

While at Mahoutokoro he learned a great deal about international politics and about the hit-wizards.

Hit-wizards were the military and law enforcement arm of the ICW. It was the job of Hit-wizards to investigate international crimes such as human trafficking, illegal potions smuggling and major threats to the statute of secrecy. Threats like a dark lord openly attacking muggles. Harry had been fit to be tied, when he learned that if anyone at the Ministry of magic had asked, an international force would have descended upon Britain to root out Voldemort and his followers. That bit of knowledge made him lose a great deal of respect for Albus Dumbledore. He'd been Britain's representative for nearly forty years, he knew and did nothing.

A/N: I am aware that this is a bit of an information dump. Though most of this background is irrelevant to this story, it is relevant to the rest of the series. The next chapter will give the highlights of his hit-wizard career and introduce his wife. Then it's back to Rocky Mountain.

In a perfect world chapters 3,4&5 would have been just chapter Three but my limit for staring at a screen is about an hour these days.

I have begun proofreading my work, my grammar is shot but I hope the spelling is better.

Thank you for the follows, favs and reviews.
