Chapter 1

November 1997

In a few days, I will be embarking on a mission for the Order. It's horrible, and James hates it, but it's not as bad as Voldemort conquering the world and destroying everyone I care about. Next week onwards, I'm going to be the girlfriend of Severus Snape.

This wouldn't be so bad two years ago. But ever since Severus joined the Slytherins who are dying to be Death Eaters and serve Voldemort, I lost all respect for him. Besides, I never liked him like that in the first place. Half the reason we became friends was that he was my first connection to the Wizarding World.

If you're wondering how this happened, here's the story. I was sitting in an Order meeting (I still can't believe I'm a part of the Order of the Phoenix!) listening to a few Order members complaining about how we have no inside source to Voldemort's plans. No one knew a solution. It's not like one of us could pretend to join Voldemort's side and learn everything about him. No, we needed someone close to the devil himself.

That's when a light bulb went on inside my head. It wasn't the best of plans, but it could work, and we could possibly acquire more knowledge. I raised my hand as if I was still at Hogwarts and waited for someone to call on me.

Dumbledore noticed and nodded his head in my direction. I took a deep breath. "What if I pretend to be Severus's girlfriend?" James whirled around and opened his mouth, but I cut off his protests. "Think about it. Severus is extremely close to Voldemort, and I know he likes me. If I can get him to trust me enough to spill Voldemort's secrets, then we'll have the upper hand."

I looked around and saw several members nodding and agreeing. But then my eyes landed on James. He was furious. "No way! Who knows what Snivellus is capable of? He could hurt you!" Sirius and Remus looked like they shared the sentiment. Peter seemed nervous, but then again, he always seemed nervous.

I ignored my boyfriend and his friends and turned to Dumbledore. He was the head of the Order. Once he decided, the whole Order followed. Dumbledore considered my proposal and declared, "Alright. But Mr Potter has a point. If Mr Snape hurts you in any way, you must abandon the mission straight away."

I quickly agreed and left the room. James was yelling at Dumbledore, and the other Marauders could barely hold him down. Dumbledore was impossibly calm during the whole episode. I love James, but sometimes, his temper gets the best of him. Oh well, he'll just have to deal. We all make sacrifices for the Order.
