James slammed Lily's diary shut in anger. He knew he shouldn't be mad that Lily fell in love with Snape. It's not her fault. According to the journal, he was nice to her and treated her right. He supposed that if you are with someone who loves you a lot, you end up in love with them. But still, it infuriates him that Snivellus stole his girl from him.

He sighed and glanced at the crib beside him. Sebastian Snape, Lily and Snape's son. Sebastian looks exactly like his father except for his eyes. Almond-shaped, emerald green eyes. Just like his mother's. And it was only because of those eyes Sebastian was sleeping next to James right now.

Last night was a whirlwind. So much had happened within a span of a few hours. A witch and a wizard were murdered, a child was orphaned, and James lost the love of his life. He tipped his head back and recollected the events that changed his life forever.

(Line break)

James burst into the Snapes' living room. There, front and centre, was Severus Snape, the bane of his existence, lying down in a pool of blood and...something else. A silvery substance James recognised as memories you would place in a Pensieve.

As James stepped closer, Snape opened his eyes and stared at James. So, he was still alive. The near-dead wizard opened his eyes and croaked out, "Take it." James stared back, surprised, but he did what Snape asked. He summoned a little vial and gathered Snape's memories in it.

As he finished, Snape's face went slack, as if he was just holding on until someone came and found him. James tucked the vial into his pocket and carefully crept up the stairs. With the Death Mark floating above the house, James knew that the chances of Lily being safe were little to none.

Once he reached the first floor, he hesitated. Did he want to see Lily, possibly dead and in a pool of blood of her own like Snape? No, he didn't. But he needed to. Otherwise, he would never believe Lily had died.

He tip-toed to the bedroom door. And right before his eyes was Lily, stone-cold and unmoving. He couldn't help but fall to his knees as tears poured down his face. He cried over her dead body as wails rung across the room.

At first, he thought the cries were his own. But soon he realised that they were from the cupboard. He opened the doors and saw a bawling toddler. One glance was enough to identify who the baby was. Sebastian Snape, Lily's son.

He was furious. How could this child survive when Lily couldn't? James wanted to throw something, and in his rage, he reached for the baby. But then, the baby opened his eyes. Those innocent green eyes were enough to stop James in his tracks. He couldn't hurt this child. A part of Lily lives through him, and James knew he would do anything to preserve it.

He cradled the baby in his arms and rocked him, trying to get him to stop crying. He's probably hungry, a voice whispered in James' head. But what could James give him? He didn't know how to care for a child!

Suddenly, James heard a loud crash outside. Sebastian cried even louder at this and started flailing now, too. It was all James could do to keep from dropping him. Two people walked through the bedroom door. One was James' best friend, Sirius Black, and the other was Rubeus Hagrid, the Hogwarts gamekeeper.

They both looked surprised to see him there. "James?" Sirius called out," What are you doing here?" James shrugged. "I apparated here as soon as I heard the news." Hagrid then stepped forward with his arms open and asked, "James, can I have the baby? Dumbledo's orders."

James kept the baby close to his chest. "Why does Dumbledore want the baby?" "I don' know. I'm jus' followin' orders," Hagrid responded, moving closer to James, still holding out for the baby. But there was no way James was giving this child up. "Tell Dumbledore that unless he gives me a valid reason, he's not having Sebastian."

"Why don't you just give him the baby, James?" Sirius asked, exasperated, "Why do you care what happens? It's Snivellus' child." James replied defiantly, "Because he's also Lily's child. And like hell, I'll let anybody hurt him."

Sirius was taken aback by James' statement. Clearly, none of them even considered that Sebastian has Lily's genes. Just because he looks like Snape doesn't mean he'll act like him.

James turned to Hagrid, "Tell Dumbledore that I want to talk to him." Hagrid hesitated but nodded and left the room. Then, he asked Sirius, "Hey, do you know how to feed a baby? Because I think Sebastian's hungry." Sirius shook his head, "You don't know anything about children, yet you're willing to care for one." But they went down to the kitchen, and Sirius found some baby formula for Sebastian.

While Sirius was feeding Sebastian, James took out his vial. James explained that it was full of Snape's memories and that they needed to find a Pensieve. So, after Sebastian finished and went back to sleep, the two best friends began searching.

(A/N- I know there are several parallels in this and there are more to come in the next chapter. I just thought it would be fun to see how James would react to the same situation Harry and Snape went through. Also, I'm sorry if Hagrid's dialogues don't seem canon. They are a bit hard to write)
