So this is not Team Sky's last appearance, I'm already working on the next time he's going to pop up. As for Drew's personality, you have to remember we saw him mostly interacting with May. What do young boys who have crushes on girls do? They mess with them, even ones as sophisticated as Drew. On multiple occasions we saw him being a romantic, and even helping Ash out of the kindness of his heart so that Ash could support May. I never saw Drew as a prick, just indifferent. Harley on the other hand, no he's gonna be exactly as shown in the anime.

So neither Brendan or Ash are taking a permanent backseat, nor will the eventual other characters, there will be chapters focusing on each of them, without drawing too much attention away from the others. Ash has chosen to not do gym battles anymore, but that doesn't get rid of the battling experience he and Pikachu have, nor does it get rid of Ash's want to help people in danger.
"So who are we looking for?" Brendan asked. "You said you found a way for us to get to Dewford, but haven't been all that talkative about how we're getting there."
"Well, like I said, when we were looking for the guy who took the parts from The Devon Corporation, I ran into someone else in trouble. Team Aqua had stolen their Pokemon, and they promised us a ride as thanks for it." Ash said. "That's all there is to it."
"Okay, but why the secrecy about who it is?" Brendan asked.
"Does it matter?" Ash asked. "I mean, at the end of the day, you'll still know who he is. Besides, he gave me an idea as to where he lives, so it shouldn't be too hard to find him."
"Can I at least know that much, I can help look for a building." Brendan said.
"He said he lives in a boat house." Ash said. "So I figured as long as we look by the water, we'll be close."
"Wait a boat house? You met Captain Briney!" Brendan exclaimed.
"Uhm, yeah. He didn't tell me he was a captain though." Ash admitted.
"Well, he's mostly retired, but yeah he's a captain, and I know where he lives." Brendan said,
A bit of walking later they were on a beach at the bottom of a cliff.
"He really likes his privacy huh." Ash commented.
"He used to have much larger boats than the one he has left." Brendan commented. "This was a way for him to store and work on the boats without disrupting anyone."
"Oh. And how do you know this?" Ash asked.
"Him and my dad go way back. I don't know why I never bothered to think of asking him for help in the first place." Brendan said with a laugh. "Hopefully he's home. Then we can head out for Dewford."
"Yeah, I tried finding Dewford on this thing, but I can't figure it out." Ash said.
"Watch." Brendan said, pulling out his Pokenav. "First you press this button right here, and it opens it up for you." Brendan said at his flipped open. "From there you have this scroll wheel right here to go through the options. You've got the call function, the status function, and the map function."
"What's the status function?" Ash asked.
"Here, I'll show you." Brendan said, grabbing Seedot's Pokeball. "So you select the status function, and then it will scan a Pokeball. From there, it gives you all sorts of information, like it's moves, ability, and even if it's weakened." Brendan said.
"These didn't come with manuals, how'd you figure all this out so quickly." Ash asked.
"Oh, well the other functions are the same as last years model. Dad usually gives me his old ones, so I've had practice with it, the call function is new though." Brendan said. "Oh hey, look up ahead, its Captain Briney's house!"
"Wait!" Ash said. "I knew how to open it, I just can't find Dewford on the map." Ash said in defeat, before quickly catching up to Brendan.
"Hello, Captain Briney, are you in there?" Brendan asked, knocking on the door.
"Go away, I don't do pleasure cruises anymore!" Briney shouted out.
"Mr. Briney, it's Ashton from the other day, you said you could give us a lift." Ash said.
"Not happening." Briney said angrily.
"You promised!" Ash argued.
"And things changed!" Briney said angrily.
"Well that was useless." Brendan said. "Guess it's time to head back north."
"Hold on, something seems off." Ash said. "He said he only has one boat, but I see two lights on over there." Ash said, looking at the boat docks where to green lights were on.
"Maybe he's working on something?" Brendan asked.
"If he was, why the sudden change in attitude?" Ash asked. "We need to find a way inside."
"That doesn't seem like a good idea, he seemed pretty angry." Brendan said.
"You can stay out here if you want, but my gut tells me something is wrong." Ash said, taking off all but his t shirt and boxers. "Let's go Surskit."
Inside Briney's house
"Okay, I got them to leave, and gave you everything you wanted, now just go." Briney said.
"See, I can't do that." A man is a blue suit said. "You're like me, a man of the sea. And I hate seeing you stuck here, so I'm taking you with me."
"My answer is no." Briney said.
"Oh, but it wasn't an offer." The man said, grabbing Briney.
"Hey, he said no!" Ash said, revealing himself.
"I thought you said that they left." The man said angrily.
"Ashton, just go. You don't want to mess with him." Briney said.
"And I don't think he wants to mess with me." Ash said, as Pikachu and Surskit came out of the water next to him.
"You've got guts kid. Fine, I'll leave the sea dog be." The man said. "I don't need to get in a fight over something as small as this."
"Ashton." Briney sighed with relief.
"You shouldn't let people push you around like that." Ash said.
"That's easy for you to say. My days of being a hero are behind me, and that man, I don't even know why he truly wanted me. I may love the sea, but I could never leave here forever." Briney said. "Too many missed memories."
"Captain, I I didn't know." Ash said realizing.
"I was like you once. Out seeing the world, looking for the next big thing, and I missed a lot doing it." Briney said. "But she wouldn't want me to give up the sea either. So I still go out every now and then, with Peeko by my side of course."
"I don't know what I'd do without Pikachu." Ash admitted.
"Well, I promised you a ride to Dewford, so how about we get the boat loaded up and that friend of yours inside to get ready." Briney said.
"Good idea, and maybe could I get a towel?" Ash half joked.
"I think that can be arranged." Briney said.
