"So the battle tent, what's it like?" Wally asked.
"We were hoping you would know." Ash admitted.
"No, I can't say I've ever even looked into it that much." Wally admitted.
"The last battle tent I was at was in Slateport, and there you rented Pokemon to use." Brendan commented.
"Maybe it'll be like that here." Wally said hopefully.
"It'd be better if you could get experience with your own Pokemon, rather than a rented one." Ash said.
"Oh, by the way Sensei, is it okay if I use a Pokemon other than Ralts?" Wally asked.
"Sensei?" Ash said in confusion.
"Is that alright?" Wally asked.
"I mean if that's what makes you happy, I guess. But what was that about other Pokemon?" Ash asked.
"Well, I caught some others since I moved here." Wally said. "And I think that they could do great if I gave them the chance."
"Sure then, go for it." Ash said.
"Seriously Sensei?" Brendan said, in shock and disgust at the name and implication.
At the battle tent
"Hello trainers, how many of you will be competing today?" The worker said.
"All of us if that's allowed." Ash said.
"You're in luck, there are openings for the next tournament coming up in a few minutes." The attendant said.
"So what are the rules?" Brendan asked.
"Your own Pokemon will fight these battles alone." The attendant said.
"So, normal battles, that seems easy." Wally said.
"Oh, I'm sorry if you didn't understand what I meant, you won't be battling." The attendant said.
"But you said there were openings for us." Brendan argued.
"We won't be battling, only our Pokemon will be, we won't be giving any commands, will we?" Ash asked.
"Exactly, now if I can just know the Pokemon you'll each be entering." The attendant said.
"I'll enter this one, she doesn't listen to me anyways, so maybe this will work." Wally said.
"I just need the Pokemon's name." The attendant said.
"Oh, then Roselia." Wally said somewhat embarrassed.
"Pika!" Pikachu said excitedly, looking at Ash.
"Sorry buddy, but I want Treecko to get a chance at this battle." Ash said.
"Pi." Pikachu said, somewhat sad but understanding.
"I guess I'll go with Aron, he hasn't had much experience yet, might be good for him." Brendan said.
"Okay then, now if you'd follow me, we'll get started shortly." The attendant said, opening the counter for the boys to walk through.
Ash Round 1
Treecko's opponent was a Pokemon Ash hadn't seen before, it looked like a turtle.
'Torkoal, the Coal Pokemon, a Fire Type.' The Pokédex said, before Ash put it away.
"Good luck Treecko." Ash said.
The Torkoal released a stream of flames, as Treecko quickly ducked underground to avoid the heat.
Torkoal's shell began to shine, while Treecko still hadn't made his way up, Ash was worried, normally Treecko had plans, but without him, how would Treecko do?
Just as Torkoal's shell finished shining, the ground beneath it cracked, and Treecko leapt out, sending Torkoal into the air, and landing on it's back, after a few moments of Torkoal being unable to get right side up, a buzzer went off.
"Torkoal is unable to continue, the winner is Treecko." A voice said.
Brendan Round 1
"Come on Aron, you've got this." Brendan said, seeing they were also at a major disadvantage against a Machop.
Aron's metallic armor began shimmering, as Machop slammed his hand down on the defensive Pokemon.
Aron continued in that state, still shimmering as Machop swept his leg low, knocking Aron into the air, now prone.
Finally as Aron was landing, Machop launched his fist forward, striking Aron and launching it into a wall.
"Aron is unable to battle, the winner is Machop." The voice said.
Wally was worried, his Sensei had one the match, while Brendan had lost, and they both had more experience than him, he only hoped Roselia wouldn't be knocked out too quickly, until he saw his opponent, a Marill.
"Oh come on!" Brendan exclaimed, only to get a punch in the side from Ash shushing him. "Sorry."
Marill sent out a stream of water that Roselia easily dodged before sending out a Poison Sting attack, doing a fair bit of damage to the Marill in the process.
The Marill tried rolling at Roselia, only for the grass type to somehow absorb the energy from the Pokemon enough to slow down the Marill.
As the Marill came to a halt, Roselia looked right down at it before hitting it with an attack at such a close range, no one could make it out.
"Marill is unable to continue, the winner is Roselia." The voice declared.
"Alright Roselia!" Wally exclaimed.
Ash round 2
Treecko looked up and down at his opponent, they were big, but that hadn't stopped him before.
"Think Treecko stands a chance?" Brendan asked.
"Any other Treecko against a Loudred, no chance, but Sensei's will have no problem." Wally said.
"And what's with you calling Ashton Sensei?" Brendan asked.
"What's wrong with that?" Wally asked.
"Nothing, it just seems weird." Brendan realized.
"He's older, and teaching me things, seems like an appropriate name to call him." Wally said.
"Fair enough, hey where's Treecko?" Brendan said.
In the battlefield Treecko was gone, which wasn't anything unusual, but there was usually a hole from where he disappeared, however this time, there wasn't one in sight.
"He's up there." Ash said, pointing at a tree.
Suddenly Treecko leapt down, with his twig in his hand, a yellowish glow to it, as he sliced at the Loudred, the slice hit, as the Loudred moved back slightly, before sending a punch towards Treecko.
The two traded the same attacks back and forth, but the yellow glow around Treecko's twig began glowing brighter and larger, until it finally knocked out the Loudred.
"Loudred is unable to continue, the winner is Treecko." The voice exclaimed.
Wally round 2
Roselia was up against the Machop that had beaten Brendan last round, and so far, it didn't seem to be looking good.
Roselia let out a Poison Sting attack, causing the Machop to stumble backwards slightly.
Machop launched fist forward at Roselia, only to be met with one of her roses, causing the Machop to be flipped over the grass type, landing on it's back.
"Wally, what does Roselia even know?" Brendan questioned, seeing the grass type standing victorious.
"Umm, well I know Poison Sting and Absorb, but I'm not sure what that move was." Wally admitted. "Or the finisher from the last battle."
Ash Vs Wally Round 3
"Come on Roselia!" Wally cheered.
"You've got this Treecko." Ash said, focusing.
Treecko sped forward, spinning it's tail around to hit Roselia before the other grass type could even react. Roselia quickly recovered and countered with a Poison Sting as Treecko leapt out of the way.
Roselia spun around releasing a whirlwind of stingers as Treecko dove underground to avoid them. Roselia kept spinning, to make it impossible for Treecko to surface.
"Tree." Treecko said, from a top of one of the trees in the arena.
"How'd he do that?" Wally asked.
"We'd all like to know that." Brendan said.
Treecko took out his twig, diving down from the tree towards Roselia as a yellow blade came from the twig, slicing through Roselia, knocking it to the ground, as he stood tall.
"Roselia is unable to continue, the winner is Treecko." The voice said.
Back up front
"Congratulations on your victory." The attendant said. "For winning we present you with this." The attendant said, holding out a badge.
"A gym badge?" Ash asked.
"No, this is a silver symbol." The attendant said. "Similar to a frontier symbol in Kanto, but not the full earnings of them."
"So, this Battle Frontier, is anyone able to enter it?" Brendan asked.
"Anyone with one of those symbols can, or anyone who impresses the boss." The attendant said.
"Good to know." Brendan said, making a mental note for the future.
