"How much further?" Brendan asked, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"According to the Pokenav, I have no idea." Wally said.

The group hadn't seen a single flag indicating the proper way to go, and the magnetic field in the desert made all of their maps useless.

"You know what, you guys take a break, I'll go ahead and look for a path." Wally said.

"Are you sure Wally?" Ash asked.

"Yeah Wally, we can keep going for a bit." Flannery said.

"No, no I want this. I want to prove myself to you guys." Wally said.

"You don't need to prove anything to us." Brendan said. "You're part of the team already."

"No, I'm going to do this." Wally said. "You guys take a break, and I'll take a look ahead."

"As long as you're sure. Just be back in an hour." Ash said, taking out his canteen.

"I'll be back before you know it." Wally said.

A bit later

"There it is!" Wally exclaimed, seeing a flag off in the distance. "Wait, there they are?" Wally said, his tone changing drastically, seeing dozens of blue flags piled up. "This isn't good."

"Cac!" A voice shouted out, before a flurry of needles shot out at him.

"Roselia, Ralts, come out!" Wally shouted, leaping back, breathing heavily.

Out of the pile of flags, another flurry of needles shot out, followed by a ball of sand.

"Roselia use Solar Beam! Ralts use Confusion!" Wally called out.

A beam of light shot out towards the pile of flags hitting the ball of sand as a small orange Pokemon tumbled out of it.

"Okay, Ralts couldn't hit the one in the flags. But Roselia definitely can hit the other one." Wally said, looking through his bag for Pokeballs.

"Trap!" The Orange Pokemon said, lunging at Ralts, its teeth digging into the psychic type.

"Cac!" The call came from the pile of flags, this time a tall green Pokemon leapt out of the pile, spinning towards Roselia, only for it to be suddenly stopped.

"Wally!" Ash said, rushing forward.

"Sensei!" Wally said, seeing Pikachu having stopped the Pokemon. "I thought you stayed behind!"

"Yeah, I'm bad at listening." Ash said. "Are these friends of yours?"

"I just wish I knew their names." Wally said.

"Here, you do it." Ash said. "I'll hold off tall green and scary." Ash said, tossing over his Pokédex.

"Okay, lets deal with you first. Roselia can you help with that?" Wally pled.

"Selia." Roselia said, firing a poison sting at the Pokemon, knocking it off of Ralts, allowing the psychic type to breath.

'Trapinch, the Ant Pit Pokemon, a ground type. It's big jaws crunch through boulders. Because its head is so big, it has a hard time getting back upright if it tips over onto its back.' Ash's Pokédex explained.

"That explains why Solar Beam was so powerful." Wally said. "But now, Ralts get your revenge and use Confusion!"

A psychic blast shot out at the Trapinch flipping it over onto its back.

"Now, Pokeball go!" Wally said, lobbing the Pokeball into the air as it landed next to Trapinch. "Oh, let me try again." Wally said reaching for another, only for Trapinch to roll over onto the Pokeball and get itself caught. "Or that works too."

"Pika!" Pikachu cried out in pain.

"Oh right, Sensei!" Wally exclaimed, rushing toward where the cry came from. "Sensei, hows it going?"

"Not great, electric attacks aren't doing a whole lot against this guy." Ash said. "And Pikachu can't get close without touching those needles on it.

"Let me see what we're dealing with." Wally said, flipping open the Pokédex.

'Pikachu, the electric mouse Pokemon, an electric type. It stores electricity in the electric sacs on its cheeks. When it releases pent-up energy in a burst, the electric power is equal to a lightning bolt.' Ash's Pokédex said.

"I really hope you didn't do that on purpose." Ash said. "Pikachu use another Shock Wave!"

Sand whipped around the green Pokemon, absorbing the attack easily, leaving the Pokemon unharmed.

"Sorry, I'm new at this." Wally said, repositioning the Pokédex.

'Cacturne, the Scarecrow Pokemon, a grass and dark type/. After spending thousands of years in harsh deserts, its blood transformed into the same substances as sand. It is nocturnal, so it hunts at night.' Ash's Pokédex informed.

"Dark type, so Confusion won't work on it." Ash reminded. "And being a grass type is why even when we hit it with a thunderbolt, it didn't seem to mind it."

"A tough combo to beat." Wally said.

"Tough, but not impossible." Ash said, grabbing one of his Pokeballs. "Treecko tag in! Use Fury Cutter!"

"Roselia use Poison Sting!" Wally called out.

Treecko and Roselia rushed in, taking over for Pikachu as they knocked over the larger grass type.

"Roselia use Poison Sting!"

"Treecko use Fury Cutter! Pikachu use Iron Tail!"

With Roselia taking the lead, she pushed the Cacturne back onto the ground, allowing Pikachu and Treecko to safely pin it.

"Go Wally. This one's your mission." Ash said.

"Really!" Wally said excitedly. "Alright then, Pokeball go!"

Later on

"So, how did we miss this much?" Brendan asked, looking at the two powerful new Pokemon eating off to the side of the group.

"Wally had an adventure." Ash said, wrapping an arm around the timid boy. "And he proved he's strong to the only one whose opinion matters."

"But Sensei, you helped." Wally commented. "I couldn't have caught them or Ralts without you."

"You caught Trapinch on your own, and even Roselia is starting to listen to you more, I consider those a win." Ash said with a smile.
