Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Lone Wolf. Enjoy the 2000-Word chapter. I don't own Warhammer, Games Workshop, and a few others do.
(Epsilon Indi System)
Styrvin slammed an axe into one of the screeching Ork, slicing the monster in half with his chain axe. The body collapsed to the frost-covered dirt which was ridden with shell casings and dozens of other Orks. The wide-open plains were coated with dozens of soldiers as they all seemed to be rather odd now.
Still, he was a soldier and it had been odd at the second. He had plenty of things on his mind when it came down to it. He was honestly ready to find better prey to hunt down as the Orks hadn't yet seemed to do a lot besides charging them again and again.
It seemed as if there weren't as many soldiers as before. The guardsmen had been able to reinforce their position now and their handiwork had been shown in dozens of dead Orks.
"Only a hundred Wolves and they still aren't able to shatter the line," Styrvin stated with a roll of his eyes.
He had still been keeping an eye out for the ape-like Xenos from before. The simple warrior he had battled and slain in combat was able to press him far more than the rest of the enemy army seemed to be doing.
Then again? He hadn't seen another of those warriors and didn't adapt to their combat style properly as of this time. It had made him honestly more eager to see something similar happen at the time.
He was so in his questions that he managed to have simply slain a pair of Orks who had tried to attack him once more. It almost seemed as if he had been ambushed by a lot more of the evil Xenos. Yet he didn't let it bother him for the time. He had plenty more of the Orks to slay before this battle when it came down to it. Not yet.
He had no idea of the new reinforcements which had been dispatched on the planet when it came down to it. He was honestly too distracted by his desire to own an epic saga to be ready for what came next.
He raised his weapon and waded into the tide of enemies and soldiers with a far more amused smile on his face while he rolled his eyes. He was ready to handle these monsters before they smashed them to pieces. It had been a long path and he still wasn't done yet.
"Is it me, or are there more Orks than before?" Styrvin heard as he seemed to consider this idea for only a few seconds.
"Perhaps they held back. Wanted to test us. I don't see them backing down from this, their Orks." Styrvin stated as he seemed to growl at the Orks. "We're getting done with them within the hour at this rate. There's only so many Orks they can send at us before they get bored anyway." Styrvin added as he returned his thoughts to the battle.
Another Ork went to charge him only for the young Astartes to bring his chain axe down upon them. The blade sliced through bone and flesh as easily as a knife into butter and parted the Xeno from the other half of his body. He brought up his bolter with his fresh hand and raked it across the ranks of his enemies, watching each explosive bolt rip into the body of one of his enemies.
"They're still charging. Hold the damned line!" One of the Grey Hunters told them which forced a roll of the eyes. "Target the larger ones, put them down before they do more damage, and force us to pull back!" The veteran Astartes roared which made him raise an eyebrow under his helmet.
Retreat? That was a horrid word, not one meant for combat like this. It made his very blood boil at the second. There were a thousand reasons he didn't wish to retreat. The second they did that was the second they surrendered this planet to the Xeno forces. It had become clear to him that their tactics in combat were still effective though. The wolves held their line against dozens of Orks and it seemed as if they were to litter the ground with more of their dead sooner rather than later.
"They're not breaking us today," Styrvin stated as he grabbed the arm of one of the Orks and slashed his chain axe across the nape of their neck. "The second we fall back will be the second we lose control of this world," Styrvin stated before he brought up his bolter to rake their ranks with more fire as he did so.
The Grey Hunter ignored him. The word of a mere Blood Claw was worth less than a Guardsmen's armor. It hadn't at all been a bad idea to reserve their forces. He knew they'd need to fight for each inch of the planet they lost.
"It is not cowardice." The Grey Hunter stated to which Styrvin rolled his eyes at his packmate.
"It is to the people of this world we swore to protect," Styrvin stated before he crossed his arms. "This planet is special in ways I cannot even begin to fathom. If it falls into chaos? We will be damned to the pits for it and that alone is worse than any real punishment we could be given." Styrvin stated before he sighed.
The Blood Claw seemed to glance around at the battle. They had reinforcement. It had been the only reason they had been able to swamp the battlefield. If it wasn't? The fleet above would be able to see so many warriors that their gunners hadn't been turning them into target practice. No, something odd and foul was going on and he planned to ponder what it was as he and his brothers met this odd enemy in combat the way they had been greeted.
No, this was something else, there was foul magic that tainted this land and made it feel impure. The fact that it had been allowed to fester and grow here spoke volumes about how badly the Space Wolves and their ilk were needed here where they could relax and sharpen their blades on the enemy.
"Those warriors from before," Styrvin questioned as he turned his bolter on the rest of the enemy army. "There was a lot more of them. No? They did not seem like Orcs, yet they appear to crave battle. They will come and attack both us and the Orks if they had not already." Styrvin said to which the Grey Hunter hummed.
There was some truth to the whelp's words. It had been clear there was more than the imperium and the Xenos who had tried to lay waste to their defenses. If more warriors had attacked them in such large numbers? It had been a lot harder to fathom.
He had been hopeful, interested in what was going to be. Countless soldiers had come to this planet. This planet was going to be ripped apart at the end of the day. A lot odder at the second. More Orks would come, dozens, millions even if it had come to it. The sooner this was to end? The sooner more was to come. They'd all come. All of them would die, and all of them would suffer. It was going to be going for dozens of years if he was correct.
He had been interested in how many he'd slay before one of them got him, how many times when it came down to it would he throw himself into the meat grinder only for the same thing to happen? It'd be all too easy for this to end.
"Hmm," Styrvin stated before he glanced around. "Something is coming, isn't there? Something bad." He asked himself aloud.
More of the ape-like bipedal soldiers roared as they arrived on the scene. It had been a matter of time before the animals came to battle him, hadn't it? A matter of time before that cradle broke. He was all too eager to greet them in battle.
There was going to be more of them, More Orks as well, always screeching and throwing themselves at the Imperium with reckless abandon. They'd probably own this planet if there was any strategy to their attacks besides drowning the planet in millions of soldiers and hope, they simply drowned their enemies all the same.
"Keep fighting them. We are going to keep holding this position even if a thousand Orks attempt to claim this planet, we will hold it to the last!" Styrvin heard as he rolled his eyes under his helmet.
"We are holding it to the last!" Styrvin roared as he brought his chainaxe down on one of the Orks, parting its body in 2.
There was no end to the Orks, but he turned his attention towards the Apish monsters who were bearing down on them. One of them attempted to bring their gun to bear on him only for him to grab their arm. They gripped his other arm and applied pressure.
Styrvin felt iron bands of strength surging through their muscles. They were powerful, very powerful compared to the Orks and it seemed as if their strength was almost close to his own.
He grinned, a worthy dance, a duel that made his back hit the wall and force him to bare his fangs in hunger for battle with them. He brought his leg up and lashed out with a kick that almost made their bones shatter. They raised their weapon again as Styrvin strode towards them on legs that seemed to crack the ground under them.
He slammed his bulk into the bipedal monster, sending them tumbling down a ramp as more Orks seemed to follow, eager for another scrap that would grant them the sweet din of battle that they adored so much.
If they craved battle so much? He'd give them it. He'd honestly try and rip into them like a sickle of wheat. He wished for battle more than they did, his mettle for death and chaos matched theirs. The Orks craved battle as much as all Blood Claws upon the battlefield did. The only difference was that many Blood Claws had yet held the amount of intelligence to maneuver and control their urges on the battlefield and it made them happy that had questioned as of the second. He was smiling to himself as he rolled his eyes and sighed to himself. This would end in combat sooner or later and combat would rage across the planet.
Still? There was honestly hope that reinforcements would come, washing the filth of this planet off like bugs on a windshield. He raised his axe before he tilted his weapon towards the enemy and slashed into them, wading into their ranks with his bolter held in one hand before he bashed one of the soldiers in the face.
The Ork was thrown backward, falling into the puddles of blood and bodies on the open plain before a single swing ended their pitiful life.
He hummed to himself the time before he clicked his tongue as of the time. he was going to be hopeful as of the time and guess that this was going to be interested in was to come down to it.
Still? This ended today one way or another.
He sighed to himself and pressed on.
