Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Two different Breeds. Enjoy the 2900-Word chapter. I don't own Halo or Warhammer, Games Workshop, Microsoft, 343, and a few others do.

Drek's hammer smashed one more of the Orks before the sounds of the footsteps. He aimed his flamer towards their direction while he strode towards them, hammer raised to smash them to paste.

"Brother." Drek heard before he lowered the weapon and rested his hammer on his shoulder.

"It is nice to see you, brother." Drek stated while he cleared his throat. "What is the state of the rest of the chapter?" Drek questioned him before he shook his head.

"Fine, brother." The fellow marine stated. "The Captain commanded we return to the camp and regroup. There's been a problem the Chapter is convening about." The soldier said while Drek frowned to himself while he shook his head.

Drek looked at the two marines while he frowned to himself. Both were clad in the trademark colors of the Salamanders. He nodded to himself before he cleared his throat. Drek was silent as he frowned to himself before he slowly started to march after them.

He was well aware of what to do next. More Orks would end up attacking again. There were thousands of them in the world before he cleared his throat before he shook his head.

"There are thousands of Orks on this planet. I would have wasted my ammo if I had stopped to shoot them." Drek heard before he nodded. "The guardsmen were also running low on ammo last I heard." Drek also heard while he frowned to himself.

"Were they protected?" Drek asked with concern dripping from each word in his voice.

The two marines nodded before he frowned to shake his head. Other chapters didn't have much care for the citizens of the imperium. The only soldiers who probably did were the Space Wolves who hadn't been deployed to this planet and whom he knew little about when it came to their ways.

"They were busy with the rest of our brothers starting to move citizens of the empire safely." One of the Salamanders stated.

"Good." Drek stated to his brothers while he frowned. "The sky. It seems different, brothers." Drek stated while he cleared his throat.

"Did the forces of Chaos do something to the planet?" Drek asked before he cleared his throat. "There's plenty of corrupted heretics on this planet and yet? I've not seen many of them when I've been battling the Orks." Drek stated to which his brothers nodded.

"There are plenty of traitors and we don't know what happened to them." Drek heard which he looked at his brothers. "They pulled their forces back after the skies changed. We haven't been able to contact the fleet at the moment and it's bothering me. Has the rest of our brothers been redeployed?" Drek heard which allowed him the option to speak.

"We have a duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves, brother." Drek stated to which he rolled his eyes. "If they cannot contact the rest of the Chapter? Then they are busy with their duty as we are busy with ours. If the forces of Chaos have pulled back? They are either readying for another battle or they are busy with the Orks who are combating us both. Either way? We prepare for whatever comes this way. Remember the creed." Drek stated before he hefted his flamer higher.

He went silent as he wasn't used to speaking so often. He waited to know what the best options were for this battle. The longer they had to hold their position? The more the people and its inhabitants would have to suffer.

They were not the Imperial Fists and siege warfare was not part of their forte. Drek simply said nothing as there was not anything on his mind. He needed to clear his mind of these types of thoughts.

"It is not in the Death Guard to plot in this manner... Nor the World Eaters to hold their forces back." Drek heard as he shook his head.

He cleared his throat while he frowned to himself. He didn't enjoy the fact two different types of traitors had coordinated their forces. They normally did not operate in this manner.

He also held a hatred for the Death Guard that almost eclipsed the disdain their chapter held for the Eldar. Their toxins and plagues burned entire worlds to tinder and they had almost no end to their depravity.

"They bring more soldiers in daily." Drek stated to himself before he sighed. "They will be on the capital within days at this rate," Drek added before a bolter round detonated near them.

They scattered into cover as crimson started to surge towards them. All three knew them as World Eaters which rushed towards them with a brutality that was only matched by their heinous master.

The trio shared looks before they nodded and unleashed a trio of bolter rounds into the swarm of their enemies. Drek pulled himself from cover before he met the ax of one of his former brothers.

Drek slammed his helmeted head into the traitor before he slammed his hammer into their skill. Drek barely had enough time to confirm the kill before another replaced the first.

He did not draw his bolter. It was neither a smart move for this range nor did he expect the flamers to work.

He battered another aside before a third slammed their ax down on his weapon. Drek stared into the helm of his former brother. Sparks flew from his weapon as he reared a fist back and smashed it into the soldier which threw them back and dented their helmet.

"It seems the emperor has a stake in this planet." The soldier snarled before Drek rolled his eyes.

"More than the traitors do, Heretic," Drek stated before he rolled his eyes. "This will not work," Drek added before he shook his head.

He held his ground as did his brothers while more traitors seemed to throw themselves forward. There were no real tactics in their attack which didn't at all surprise them when it came down to it. There were plenty of soldiers for them to attack and they threw themselves into combat.

The Salamanders did not break and they were answered by torrents of fire… Torrents slammed into the enemy and burned them in holy flame. Drek didn't need to spin on his heel to know their brothers had shown up to reinforce them.

Drek kicked the traitor back before dodging a desperate lunge and slammed his hammer into the back of the traitor. He pivoted while he slammed into their skull. The soldier slumped to the ground with a crushed helmet.

The remaining traitors and their support roared a challenge at their enemy and charged despite the flames. Drek raised his hammer and greeted them as well as they greeted him when it came down to it. He knew they wanted the citizens under the care of the Salamanders and their guardsmen. It made Drek's blood boil similarly to the fires of his home. They died here on the soil of Aetune where their vile master would claim what was left of their ashes.

Drek lifted his hammer and waded into the battle. He carried his bolter in his other arm and unleashed a torrent of shots towards the Daemons. He slammed his hammer into the ax and head with lightning crackling from the head of his weapon. He was NOT to surrender or retreat.

"For the Imperium!" One of the Salamanders yelled before he raised his flamer

Drek started to think of what their traitors were after before a yell of pain drew his attention. He knew it was one of his brothers which drew forth a roar that was followed by him slamming into the enemy. He trampled a Bloodletter under heel before he sent one of his former brothers flying with another hammer blow.

The Salamanders continued to the line as Chaos Marine after Chaos Marine were crushed, shot, or burned to a crisp. They drowned in the tide of cleaning flames. Drek smashed a final Bloodletter under his hammer before he turned with his weapon crackling.

One of their brothers had an ax slammed into their chest. The marine lay unmoving as his comrades crowded around their fallen sibling. They said nothing as their objective was clear. One of their companies gathered their fallen in his arms.

"He will be buried on holy ground." The marine which held him stated.

"He fought with valor. We bury him with it..." Drek heard as he nodded with a frown under his helmet.

They hadn't the faintest idea where they were and currently? Drek did not know where Nocturne was at this moment. their home was where all were burned and one of their brothers leaving to perform the duty was as bad as him being killed as well. He considered the time it would take time for it to happen at the end of the day.

He turned away from the fallen comrade and looked at one of Aetune's capital cities. Their orders were to protect the factories on this planet. It was not enough for them as there were dozens of cities to protect and defend before the planet's star dimmed for the night.

"Hmm." Drek stated while he cleared his throat and started to speak. "May the fires of Prometheus guide you, brother," Drek added before he slowly started to start to walk towards Aetune's city. He started to close his eyes to place his mind off what had happened before.

One of his brothers had fallen in combat. He mourned him, but his brother had died defending the innocent and his fellow warriors. There was no greater honor than to be buried on Prometheus with the light of Vulcan shining on you. He'd be remembered in their way and that was all he wished for his brothers.

"Brother Drek, where do you wander?" Drek heard as he gazed over his shoulder.

"To Aetune's main city." Drek stated while he prepared for another round of combat. "It is where the traitors will send more forces. The guardsmen will not hold another hour without reinforcements." Drek stated while he frowned.

His brothers all seemed to share looks as they realized this campaign was about more than simply holding the line. Each Salamander in the group was a soldier who concerned themselves with things others didn't. Their fellow man was something all of them wanted to protect and they'd damn well throw their weight against the enemy before they let someone be hurt. It simply came down to how much they were willing to suffer.

"We aren't going to let them hurt them. Will we, brothers?" Drek questioned with a raised eyebrow as he started to march towards the city. "We need to think of what to do next. The traitors will regroup within time." Drek added while he sighed.

(With the forces of Chaos)

The garb of the Death Guard seemed to mock the Salamanders with sores and puss decorating their armor. It was almost as if they thrived on the corruption of what the Salamanders held in high esteem. Their sickness was counted by the flames of their flamers which made them angered.

"The ritual cannot be stopped." One of them stated while he took a deep breath of toxins. "They promised to spread the sickness in the galaxy." One of them added before he sighed to himself.

He was ready to be done with this. Their work on this planet had cost them too many of their brothers at the end of the day. The more time that they spent on Atene? The more he placed into this world. There was little to not be gleamed in the world that needed them. This place was a smelting pit of anarchy and horrors which needed to be slain and the more time they did not prepare defenses as more time that they hadn't yet fortified their defenses. He was also aware of the simple idea that they weren't prepared for a long campaign. There were many soldiers in the forces of chaos and none of them rested.

Then again? If they were Orks? He'd at least be happy since it meant there was some small amount of reprieve since they were too aggressive for any real standard tactics. The forces of Chaos at least had the brains to not throw their forces.

Still? Some of them weren't at all willing to plan a real siege of their home planet which didn't at all seem to show anything in terms of tactical skill.

"Perhaps it is better to see to the bases and see if any of the emperor's followers are alright?" He heard to which he raised his arms. "There will be many warriors in this area that do not wish to be slain and they all need protection from the heretics. It." Drek also heard to which there was another nod.

If there were more enemies? It was better to meet them in combat on the imperial terms and the Salamander way. Any other path not only meant there was a possibility of their death. It also went against their tenets which stated that the best way to aid their forces was slowly.

Still? There was a need for haste as well that made sense in their doctrine. If they didn't? the forces of Chaos were to come and lay waste to them and all who hid below their banner.

Drek pondered what the best action was to be against their enemies.

(Earth, UNSC HQ)

If there was anything that seemed to bother Fleet Admiral Terrance Hood? It was something that brought more death to his table and laid waste to dozens of millions of soldiers within his forces.

Yet? More news of that caliber often seemed to bring itself to his table. He cleared his throat and started to press a hand onto the datapad which needed his fingerprint. He was briefed slightly on what had been seen by a frigate that was near a supply route that hadn't once been used by the Covenant before now. All of it was simply something that needed to be heard as he sat in the command chair.

"Tempest. Tell me what happened." Hood heard as the man leaned on the table. "A… Planet and a few dozen ships appeared from Slipspace? As in an entire planet and ships that aren't from the UNSC and Covenant?" Hood also heard while he raised an eyebrow at this.

That seemed almost impossible to him. Forces that were stronger than the UNSC and military forces? It seemed as if it hadn't existed for a while nor had they any real reason for this.

"Are they hostile?" Hood questioned while he slowly started to cross the table while he was greeted by a frown. "Weapons? Numbers? They aren't inhuman, yes?" Hood questioned to which there was a small nod.

"From what little we noticed? They seem to be waiting and fighting among themselves. Doesn't at all seem as if they're going to notice a few ships floating along." The man stated with a frown as he seemed to wring his hands. "What little we did see before we were forced to leave is simply human. Its who's fighting isn't clear." Hood heard to which there was a raised eyebrow.

(With Drek)

Drek rested his hammer across his shoulder. The Imperial base did not feel as nice as their homeworld. The empire considered Nocturne to be a rather hellish planet to call home and a place which little seemed to matter.

To them? It was home. It was where they hammered weapons of sheer beauty, tools that helped the Imperium and its citizens. It had been so perfect that he almost considered the simple idea of its destruction to be horrible.

He stared at the horizon. The former traitors were sure to redouble their efforts to smash the base and break into the city. It didn't bode well if their line shattered before anything.

"Brother?" He heard before he blinked to himself before he rotated to the side. "We have found a few Orks who seem to be an issue." He heard before he raised an eyebrow towards one of the soldiers before he prepared to deploy once more.

If there were more enemies for them to battle? Then there was a sign as he prepared to go to war as it came down to it.

He grabbed his flamer in his other hand and carried it and his hammer into the battlefield. He nodded to one of his fellow brothers. It was honestly interesting in his mind before he frowned before he glanced before he seemed to prepare for more battle.

This had to end at the moment. yet he didn't realize that there were new friends to come.
