Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Two different Breeds. Enjoy the 2900-Word chapter. I don't own Halo or Warhammer, Games Workshop, Microsoft, 343, and a few others do.
The squad of the 228th marine regiment watched the armored crimson soldiers who started to fire at them as interested as possible in ending them. It hadn't at all seemed as if they were to defeat these soldiers.
One of the soldiers tried to peek from the cover towards them and was greeted by gunfire from the rest of the soldiers around them. It did not once seem as if they were to escape anytime soon. It had honestly been a rather interesting topic at the moment which wasn't at all to be greeted out anytime soon. It seemed as if he was destined to die here as of the second and it showed in how well they had been rather odd.
Still? there was almost no damned reason why they hadn't beaten the enemy army. He was thrown to the side by one of the soldiers which seemed almost entirely ready for this to end. It was a long time for it to end anytime soon.
He handled it a lot better than anyone seemed to hold any real reason to. It was a lot more interesting how this ended.
"Slay the soldiers of the false emperor!" One of the soldiers yelled before he was greeted by something.
The battered squad was interrupted by a new combatant. The marine stared at the others only to realize this new soldier was on THEIR side. He slammed a hammer into one of the crimson soldiers which dizzied the soldier before he spun and crushed their skull into a fine paste with the hammer which shattered their head as easily as an egg.
Another of the soldiers tried to slam an axe into him only for the soldier to dodge it in one strike and slam a nee into their chest while he grabbed their arm and tossed them to the ground. He fired a weapon that spat flames that consumed the soldier in a hellish blaze of flames. The soldier also rotated before he started to greet the other two soldiers who raised their axes.
The marines took advantage of this to open fire with their weapons which pinged off the armor of the soldiers. It distracted them enough for the green armored soldier to smash the hammer into one of their ribs which shattered their armor and forced a hellish scream from their lips. He ended them in one last hit which crushed their spine. He sidestepped the last of the enemy and gripped their throat before finally twisting his fingers and ending the life of the soldier with a horrid crack.
The green armored soldier seemed to glance at the marine near his feet with interest. They raised their weapon at him as he tilted his head to the side before slowly extending a hand toward them.
"Are you alright, Guardsmen?" Drek questioned before footsteps behind him.
"Stay here. I will defend you from them." Drek stated before he hefted his hammer. "And I wouldn't stay here. There will be more of them." Drek said before he turned to look at them once more.
"What the hell?" The marine asked as the Astartes moved towards the soldiers who rushed at him.
He glanced at them with more interest than anyone and anything. To him? They were part of the reason for this was curious was going to be hopeful when it came down to it. There were more soldiers on this rock than he expected.
The marine watched as the armored warrior dodged to the side and seemed to glance at the marine with interest. It had become a lot odder than he expected as he blocked one of the soldiers from taking a swing at his back.
"What the hell is that?" The marine questioned. "He's not normal." The marine added before backpedaling with fear.
There were a few more sounds behind him as more of the monsters seemed to screech towards him. He helped the soldier to his feet as he seemed to prepare himself mentally for combat with the former brothers he had served with.
Drek slid down into the stone and rock. This place had taken a toll on him. One which wasn't easily remedied. He stared around at the air that seemed to eat almost anything in front of him. It disturbed him to a degree that he hadn't exactly expected.
Yet? It was his duty to these people⦠To the emperor, that he carries this out. These people were his flesh, his blood. If he couldn't defend these people? To drive the forces of chaos from this infested place, he had no real duty being called an Astartes of the salamanders.
His brothers seemed to agree, their forms sliding down the hill and sweeping their weapons across the area. This planet felt as if it sapped its very power for some damnable reason which didn't at all surprise him. The forces of Chaos had a hold here. Their goal was probably either to claim the planet for their empire or destroy it. Drek's hatred of the poisonous monsters was matched only by his desire to protect this planet and whoever called it home.
He lumbered forward with his weapon raised to do them damage. His hammer seemed to crackle with power as he prepared for what came next. If they were to come, they'd come en mass. He hadn't known the bloodthirsty monsters to be very tactical when it came to battling the Imperial. It made them dangerous, but it also seemed to be their main weakness if he was honest with himself. Their danger seemed to lie in their lack of tact and the terror they spread around his home and their lands. It was not on them to be intelligent in combat
Drek listened for their inhuman roars as they emerged over the hill with weapons drawn towards him. He raised his hammer and met their chainaxe in combat.
"What is that thing? Some sort of Spartan?" One of the marines questioned as the soldier sidestepped an axe before he wrapped an arm around the weapon's shaft and allowing him to toss the soldier to the ground.
He tossed the soldier to the ground and spun to engage another traitor who had tried to stab him on the horns of his helmet. He managed to leap back before slamming the shaft of his hammer into their helmet, shattering off the horns. He had honestly pondered if their hateful god had become a far more interesting view of what war was.
No, to him? War probably meant murdering anyone who got in his path. The fact that he had been so far interested in this was honestly something that had become a lot harder to do than simply reacting. He was a lot more interested in how to crush this army which meant his brothers in arms were safe. They were enemies, no longer his brothers, no longer kin who had operated on some sort of rule. They were brutes who were driven by rage, he by his desire to protect those they picked on.
"No, Spartans don't look like that." Another marine said as he brought his hammer down on the head of one traitor, squashing it into a fine red mist. "Don't fight like that. He's something else. Something new." The marine stated as he backpedaled.
Still? He was prepared to greet them in combat when it came down to it. They had no real tactics when they gave in to their bloodlust. They wanted his death even if it took countless soldiers to get it. There was no real attempt to make better tactics nor an attempt to become better than this at all in real planning.
Yet even a brute such as them were dangerous in raw numbers. They were honestly too horrid not to become anything other than brutes. They were warriors and he had become too complacent not to see them as anything to fear. He still needed to battle them properly as he would any other enemy and his damned attempt to see through them would cost lives. He had to focus if he didn't attempt to back down and take this fight as properly as if he had battled anyone else? People died.
Still, there were problems. There were always going to be problems when it came down to it. He was going to be the warrior who changed the tides of battle.
The marines watched as he slammed a hammer into one of the soldiers, throwing himself backward as he did so. The soldiers surged forward, screeching widely as they did so.
"That thing isn't a Spartan, it's a soldier, though. A damn good one at the moment, one who's taking them down." The marine said as one of the soldiers before he seemed to glance around.
The Astartes attacked these soldiers with renewed fervor as he lifted his hammer to smash these soldiers into the dust which would be left in the wind. It felt as if they had smashed him against a wall at the second. There was a wave of death that bared down on him. He did not intend to give it an inch, not even if it cost him his life. He'd hold damn well as long as this location needed him too.
An axe almost buzzed at his neck while he backpedaled, only turning to level his hammer at one of the soldiers who tried almost slammed into his flank. The next soldier had started to slice him into pieces before he headbutted them to the side.
"He's not normal, not at all. We should get back to the ship, and wait for reinforcements." They heard as the Astartes pivoted to the side to dodge another attack at his flank.
There was more interest in what was coming at the second. Something that had to be done, was to be ready for this. He had a few more seconds before they crashed into him, like a wave, a tide that had made him ponder what was to come if he should falter.
The second he gave ground? He'd be watching them all die and rip each other apart. This place wouldn't become easy when it comes down to it to defend. More traitors would be coming at the time. Yes, this needed to end sooner or later at the second. He'd be battling tooth and nail when it comes down to it.
He rolled his eyes and caught an axe from one of the soldiers. He brought up his weapon to stop the next soldier before throwing them aside and bringing up his hammer to properly clobber the next soldier. There was far too much at the moment for this to become harder than it needed to be.
He backpedaled as more of his traitorous brothers attacked him, their weapons cutting through the air towards him. It had been an interesting problem to try and adapt to so many. If they wished to try and cut him down to the side. He had been hopeful as to what was coming.
There were many of his brothers who assaulted him on the holy ground. He'd not force himself backward.
If they wanted death at his hands? He'd give them nothing less than pure death at the time. That was all he offered at the time to them. This ended today and now.
