"So uh... you remember when I said about no passwords?" T.O slows says as he reads the reviews through his glasses. "It's actually 'Devils never cry'. Which is the previous name of the store in the first game."
"If 'Devils' are things like Grimm, then yes, they don't cry." Ren replies.
Ruby presses a few buttons to change into the 'Mission Selection' screen, and notices the 'Game Select' having Nero/Dante chosen. She presses right... and the two main characters are replaced by Dante's twin brother with the color theme changed to his as well. "Hey, is that... Vergil? He is Dante's twin, right?!"
"And yet he looks more serious than Dante." Blake feels a shiver running on her back when she makes a closer inspection on him. "...I feel the same vibe on him with Adam..."
"Well... how about we start to see if your first expression is correct or not?"
"Obviously!" Then the Red Huntress starts changing between Devil Hunter and Son of Sparda. "Uh... which should I choose?"
"Devil Hunter, again. So that they can show the tutorial for you... maybe." T.O replies. "Don't actually remember if it shows in higher difficulty."
...
On some random roads of Fortuna City, the demons which are in smoke-form fly around the area, trying to find a new target to feast on. Which they do, in the form of a human wearing a ragged grey robe. The robe occasionally flies in the wind, revealing the stranger's dark green pants and tall brown boots with parts of his blue coat.
Fortuna City, a few decades ago...
"Decades?" Velvet asks in surprise. "That long ago? But then, how old is Dante?"
"In his... late thirties?" Weiss guesses.
"Then how is it 'decades ago' if Vergil is his twin, and yet looking exactly like him here?"
All then turn to the possible 'walking Wiki' next to them... "Game engines."
"...So he SHOULD look younger here." Yang concludes.
"Yes. Also, two can be counted as 'a few', right?" T.O makes a theory. "If it's just twenty years, then it's still in the realm of possibility."
"...Right..." They decide to stop dwelling into that.
After a good walking distance, the person stops and looks up to the structure before him, which is the Church belonging to the Order of the Sword where the Statue of Sparda is being built.
"The Order of the Sword, huh..." He starts speaking, showing that he's no-nonsense unlike his twin. "They worship a demon as a god?"
"Does he have the right to ask that when he's a half-demon himself?" Fox questions.
"First, his past is a bit messed up, which also includes Dante. Second, do you trust a person who worships a demon?" T.O counters.
"...You have a point."
"But Sparda is his father, right?" It's Nora's turn. "Shouldn't he be glad someone knows of his help for humanity?"
"Well... I won't answer." And that makes her pout.
Before he goes any further, a bunch of Scarecrows fall from the sky and land before him. All of them laugh, thinking that they just got a good prey.
Raising his left hand up, he reveals the sheathed katana in his hand, and uses his thumb to flick the sword out a bit. Just in time a Scarecrow tries to hit him from behind...
To the demons' surprise, the person has already disappeared and reappeared behind them, with the katana's handle in his right hand, SOMEHOW still only partly sheathed. Then, he fully sheathes the katana again... and the demon before falls to the ground, turning into dust. ONLY THEN the other Scarecrows realize where he goes and turns to him.
"They... I... did anyone see him hitting the demon?" Pyrrha asks in surprise, which earns him with head-shakings yet same expression.
"He's faster than Adam or even Ruby if he tries." Blake says, and Ruby nods in agreement. "Though his fighting style is similar to him..."
"Without a gun. If he uses gun, he's not our Vergil."
He then starts his rampage... by cutting down the demons down one slash each for the first three, then he throws the sheath that comes through some demons and stucks into one while still sending it fly. Vergil then cuts the demons down in line and throws Yamato around him, cutting everything in its trip. When the blade returns to his hand, Vergil stabs it into the sheath, the force kills the demons that's hung on. And only THEN, the demons' bodies recognize the damage and fall without a second to know what just happened.
He takes a small second to flick some of the loose hair strands back to where they should be, and takes notices of the new demon batch raining at him. He then simply jumps up and cuts them all and when he lands, he does a split that kills the one on the ground. After all demons are dead, he slowly sheathes Yamato back, walks away with the demons falling around him, and grabs the falling robe that flew away after his first teleportation.
"That... is..."
"AWESOME!" Ruby and Nora unintentionally ends Coco's comment, though the girl chuckles since it does sum up what she's planning to say.
"Who needs a gun with skills like that?" Jaune's voice is slightly muffled by the hyper girls' cheers. "But if he doesn't use guns, then what's his 'gun' button for?"
"Oh you just watch."
"Just what are your true intentions?" Citizens of the city starts filling the street he's in, as he walks pass them without a care. However, one of them notices him...
"I assume that she's Nero's mother?" Velvet curiously asks.
"That's the fans' theory. I think the developers never confirmed that. If you have the answer then tell me."
"...I think that's something you tell us when you find out." Coco asks, a bit confused at T.O's last sentence.
"That's not for you." The man's wink causes her confusion to go up.
Ruby then opens the Skill Up menu, and sees four new weapons: Yamato (Which is just Devil Trigger for Nero), Beowulf, Force Edge and Summoned Swords. She starts looking around the Yamato's skills... which makes Blake slightly shiver again. "...Do all katana-users do the sheathe-to-deal-damage?" And then when Judgement Cut End is shown: "...How is it fair?!"
"Well... We have a single quote for him: He's broken in EVERY game he's playable."
Ruby switches to Beowulf, and this time Yang whistles: "Damn, his punches look even more powerful than Dante."
When it comes to Force Edge, Nora nudges Jaune's shoulder and says: "You can actually use his moves to help your skills!"
"Maybe a combination between Dante and Vergil would be nice."
Then to Summoned Swords... Weiss comments: "Why does it feel like how Penny uses her swords with Velvet's weapon..." Until she sees Heavy Rain Swords. "Never mind. He's much more lethal... Didn't YOU TWO use their moves, T.O?" The person responds by zipping his own mouth. "No wonder."
"Do we have new stages for him?" Ruby asks, though she guesses it to NOT be the case since she sees Vergil in where Mission 1 of Nero/Dante happened.
"Unfortunately not. However, the fun would still be there."
Ruby starts the gameplay, and she's introduced to the Summoned Swords as replacement for the Blue Rose that's spam-able during walking without Vergil making a move to call them. "This is... like, where's the fairness?!"
"Like I said before."
The Jump and Roll are the same, though she notices Aura glowing over Vergil's body that seemingly expands overtime. She plans to ask, but she thinks that the game would explain later.
She presses Taunt during the tutorial, and sees Vergil taunts by drawing Yamato out...
"That Taunt can deal damage."
"...What?" That earns blank stares from everyone else.
"Need I repeat?"
And then, during the melee introduction, Ruby presses the gun button, and sees the Summoned Swords flying out with zero problems. Then to the uppercut... and notices Yamato doesn't even touch Dante directly and yet still does damage. "...I can tell I can hit SSS style with him extremely quick."
Thanks to the previous gameplay, Ruby can buy almost every skill from the menus. Yang says with a bit of concern, for Dante. "Oh boy, when Nero doesn't have skills, it's already a bit one-sided. What's gonna happen now?"
Entering the actual fight, there's another tutorial about changing weapons, and it seems that the Gun Switch for Dante is just another Melee Switch. Though she keeps with Yamato first, and uses Blistering Swords and Rapid Slash at the same time on Dante, causing him to get hit after shooting down about two or three Summoned Swords. He can't even react to Storm Swords and gets hit by that, losing a chunk of health due to low difficulty. Spiral Swords just stuns him in corner as Vergil melees him to dead.
And the fight ends in 10 seconds.
"...Do either of you remember my record of the fastest monster-clear?" Ruby asks the others as she puts the controller down and raises her hands up in defeat. "Because I'm sure he's going to beat that."
"I'm pretty sure ALL OF THEM can beat us in no time." Coco is now intimidated by how swiftly the man fights. "And that's just his main katana alone. What about the rest of his weapons?"
"She hasn't even used his signature move." T.O plainly says.
"Which one? You mean that screen-clearing..."
"Not that Jaune. You notice sometimes Yamato flashes up? Time the hold-release right and... well, Blake knows what can happen."
"...He's going to cut enemies from distances?" The ninja can only think of ONE scenario that Adam is close to be able to perform. Or Raven.
"Then you can just stand afar and spam..."
"It's not a heavy or stun move, so some demons can still shoot back, Weiss. Still, right timing and it can cause a lot of damage... and when you play it Vergil-style."
"What... does that mean?" Ruby questions.
"You will notice it."
"I just noticed." Ren remembers something amiss. "They didn't show tutorial on how to use the Style button."
"...Right!" Ruby nods. She immediately starts the second mission and presses the Style button, to see Vergil teleporting to the space above him. And if she Lock-on an enemy, he fires out a Summoned Sword to it then teleports next to it. "So he basically teleports straight to enemies to kill them. Huh, I thought he would just keep shooting the swords until he gets close."
"I think he would take care of his opponents as quick as possible. And his sword is strong, why bother throwing other swords?" Pyrrha then turns to T.O. "Like you."
"Well, he also doesn't go around and... well, backstab people." He adds. "He stabs people on the front. Except Dante maybe."
"What's the difference?" Coco asks jokingly.
"So if I do this..." Ruby decides to abandon the left stick for a moment and starts hitting both Melee and Gun buttons, and sees that Vergil's attacks come out without a problem. She decides to apply her Semblance to move her right thumb faster so she can hit both while being able to control the left stick. "...You think you can do things like this Weiss?"
"...Technically, I can." The Heiress replies. "However, I still need a Glyph to summon them, and you know that's just a tell-tale sign for enemies to avoid."
"What's that meter on top of his health bar?" Velvet now notices it, and sees it somewhat resonating with the aura around Vergil.
"That's his Motivation." T.O says, then crackles as others send him a strange look. "Its official name is 'Concentration Gauge'. It's extremely important to Vergil's style. Do not rush, do not take hit, and your hits have to land to get the gauge up. The higher it is..."
"The stronger the attacks are." Upon reaching the max level, Ruby sees that all Vergil's attacks gain significant range and hit hard. She has also performed some Judgement Cuts and sees them annihilating weak Scarecrows. "But, what if I'm out of combat?"
"It won't be affected."
She then tests the Rapid Slash with DT on, and sees Vergil dashing around the battlefield and cutting the demons down like butter. The Heavy Rain Swords stun all enemies hit in the area. Ruby zips pass the enemies with zero problems.
"Hey Ruby, when you reach Berial, can I borrow the controller?" T.O asks, as she's heading to the bridge control.
"...How fast are you planning to murder him?" Yang asks jokingly.
"10 to 15 seconds, with YOUR style."
"My?" The brawler asks back, then remembers Beowulf. "I can guess it's a heavy-hit weapon, but Berial's health is definitely higher than Dante."
"You will see."
Ruby then reaches Berial boss fight and gives T.O the controller. The viewers then watch him Heavy Rain the boss to stun him, teleport with Trick, land and prepare a Rising Dragon. However, when it's already reached the second level yet he's still holding it, everyone now knows what he's about to do.
"Of course, Distortion technique." Ren concludes as Heavy Rain is used again to avoid getting interrupted by the boss.
"Not just that." When Beowulf reaches its hidden Max level, Vergil automatically uses his move without T.O releasing the button, though he enters D.T midway, nearly killing the poor boss in one move. To end with style, he uses Judgement Cut End to finish the fight. "Unlike Dante, Vergil's Beowulf has a hidden Max-charged level that can only be performed with Level 3 Concentration Gauge. Or with us meme-ing it, when he's MOTIVATED."
"Does it apply to every charge move?" Ruby asks as she receives the controller again.
"Yes. That's why keeping the gauge up is very important."
"I wonder how he fairs against the second Dante boss?" Nora asks out loud. "Or even Credo?"
"Surprisingly, he can't cheese either of them easily. Which makes the fights fun to do... And I'm not saying that for pros, just us casual gamers."
"Wait, does Judgment Cut count as range or melee attack?" The question's from Coco.
"Melee. Why?"
"Because I remember a certain boss' shield that seems to be resistant to gun shots."
"...Yeah. Vergil does..." T.O then chuckles. "Another point of his OP-ness. Remember the priest's spear-thrusting move? His Taunt can stop that."
"...Thanks for spoiling it. And thanks for giving us some MOTIVATION to play him more." Yang says with a cheeky smile, causing others to groan. "Alright, time to see how he mows down enemies!"
