Chapter 02 (Day 1, Part 2) - Two Teams and a Cliff
"Welcome back to the gripping first episode of Total Drama Reborn! I'm here with our lovely and amazing 22 contestants! Returning campers, this will be a recap for you, but you newbies better pay attention! Follow me!" With that, Chris took off, starting to head towards the main campgrounds.
As they all began to walk, Daniel found himself jogging towards Heather, hoping to talk to her a bit. She noticed him first and scoffed.
"Is there a reason you're over here trying to talk to me?" Daniel showed an expression of mock hurt at her words.
"What, I can't have a friendly conversation with a fellow camper? After all, we are going to be here all summer, right?" She rolled her eyes and shook her head, crossing her arms in the process.
"As if. There is no such thing as friendly conversation on this island. Why don't just tell me what you want and then be on your way."
"Maybe," he started, taking a step closer towards the girl. "I want to get to know Heather better?" She raised an eyebrow at him, but he held a genuine smile. She shrugged and the two started to talk a little, although it was mostly about the contest and nothing personal.
From afar, Gwen was grumbling as Courtney walked next to her.
"I still can't believe that Heather is on the show, but Trent didn't make the cut." She wasn't going to forgive Chris anytime soon for keeping Trent off.
"I mean, Chris is all about ratings and she did bring the drama. Although, she's been different so far. Not nice by any means, but definitely not her usually witchy self." Courtney explained and they both suddenly heard the sound of teeth chattering, turning to their left to see Shawn walking next to them.
"What if they replaced Heather with a zombie sleeper agent, in an attempt to start the spread of the virus?" Both girls looked at him in silence, before Gwen finally spoke up.
"Uh, why are you walking with us?"
Confessional Cam
Shawn - "Whatever! They might be calling me crazy now, but when a zombie springs up out of nowhere and devours their brains, they better not come running back to me for help on how to survive!"
Daniel - "I can't really read Heather yet. She didn't tell me to buzz off and actually talked to me for a bit. Can't tell if she's just trying to make allies or she is trying to be nicer. Either way, I'm going to be careful around her. I am attracted to bitches, but even I have a limit. Just need to make sure I can see the signs of manipulation."
Heather - "Daniel seems like a nerd. I mean, he goes around with a bow and arrow. That doesn't really scream popular to me. He's lucky he's cute and attractive for a nerd, or I would have just blown him to the curb. Like I said, I am going to need allies if I want to make it in this game."
Gwen - "She has to be absolutely bonkers if she doesn't think we aren't going to vote her out instantly! Like why on Earth would we want to spend more time with Heather? I can't wait to see that snobby little witch get the boot!"
"And here, campers, is the lovely campfire pit, where not only you will be forced to send someone home to board the Boat of Losers, but it's also where you will all be separated into two teams!" Chris laughed before pulling out a paper. "Now normally we just rattle off 11 names and they go to one side and that's the team, but the writers wanted to make it a little more interesting and up the word count, so we are going to be alternating teams." Vivian scoffed, crossing her arms at that sentence.
"That honestly just sounds like it would make it more confusing for people watching or reading." Next to her, Soren couldn't help but nod, but that annoyed Vivian. "Don't agree with me." He frowned at her, but Chris started speaking again at that moment.
"Honestly, I agree, but hey, if it's for drama's sake, then I'm all for it! Alright, the first camper to be sorted into a team is going to be…" He started, pausing for dramatic flair before turning to read his notes.
"Levi! To your left!" The gamer smiled and nodded, lightly jogging over towards the left side of the host (even though he lightly jogged, he was panting a bit)
"To my right, we have Charlie!" The detective smiled, walking gingerly towards the right.
"Next up, we have Heather! Head to the left." The Queen nodded, walking over. "While I'm at it, Daniel! Get over there also!" Daniel smirked a bit before standing next to Heather.
"Looks like I'm gonna get that chance to get to know you afterall, huh?" Heather rolled her eyes and looked away, but there was a faint smile on her face. Nearby, Gwen gagged, pointing towards her mouth to mimic throwing up.
"To the right, let's get Geoff and Bridgette!" The party guy let out a cheer before sprinting over next to Charlie, while Bridgette walked over with a small smile. "Lots of good vibes over there, huh?" Geoff high fived Charlie, who gladly accepted the energy Geoff was giving off.
"Left side! Courtney! Right side! Duncan!" The couple looked towards the host, anger in Duncan's eyes and annoyance in Courtney's.
"Really Chris? You let Bridgette and Geoff on the same team, but you're splitting me and Duncan?" Duncan nodded, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, that kind of bites man." The host chuckled, looking up from his paper.
"You're right. I could have just split you guys like we did Gwen and Trent if you want." Gwen growled at the reminder. Courtney decided to shut up and moved towards the left, while Duncan continued to grumble, but still walked towards the right.
"Lindsay, you're up on the left!" The blond held up her hands, trying to make the L with her fingers, but she started to get confused quickly.
"I got this Chip, just give me a second!" Chris sighed, pointing at Samson.
"Samson, you're also to the left. Can you help Lindsay find her way?" The otaku nodded, taking the girl's shoulders and helping her towards the left.
"Oh wow, your arms are huge! Thanks Sterling!" Samson chuckled, leading the girl.
Confessional Cam
Samson - "I know a lot of people hate on Lindsay for being so dumb, but honestly, I love it. She's so funny. Definitely one of my favorites from when I watched the show.
Courtney - "Of course Chris wanted to put Duncan and myself on separate teams. That's so him! Every single time something good comes along, he really decides to come and screw it all up. I think Chris has really got an ego problem, especially when it comes to couples. What I mean is, he likes to think of himself as the almighty, and that he can break up the couples! Furthermore-" /The camera turns to static and cuts her off.
Heather - "Oh yeah. I'm going to have Daniel eating out of the palm of my hands in less than two challenges."
"Kara, you're on the right!" She nodded, taking a step forward, but immediately tripped over her own foot,l falling straight onto her face. She groaned, but Cody was already there, helping her up.
"You okay Kara?" He asked, helping her up. "Wow, your face is super red! You must have hit your head hard!" Her face was indeed flushed, mostly from embarrassment from falling in front of everyone.
"I like that actually. Cody, you also go right!" The tech geek smiled, helping Kara to her feet and the duo moved over towards the right.
"Gwen, you're heading to the left." She looked at Heather and groaned again, walking over with a pout and her arms crossed.
"Great, on a team with Heather. You just love to torture me, don't you McLean?" She mostly was talking out loud, but Chris laughed, looking back at his paper.
"Yes. Yes I do." He pointed towards Izzy, gesturing to the right. "Izzy, you and home-school are on the right." Izzy squealed, glomping Ezekiel, who had all the air knocked out of him. With a cheer, she rushed over, carrying Zeke over her head, scaring the teen and making a nearby Owen even more teary eyed.
"Dawn," said girl looked up, her head tilted slightly. Before Chris said anything, she walked towards the left, standing near Daniel. "Well, looks like you were right. Nice catch!" He gave her a finger gun before looking away. Dawn smiled and turned towards Daniel, who had a hand extended towards her.
"What's this?" She asked, pointing to his hand. Daniel chuckled a bit at her words.
"It's a high five, dummy. I'm glad I'm on the same team as my friend!" She blinked at the words, the gears turning in her head.
"Friend?"
"Well, yeah. I'd like to think we are or are becoming friends Dawn." She pondered his words before giving him the high five he was asking for. He looked away towards Chris, not noticing the faint smile and blush develop on her face.
Confessional Cam
Dawn - "Oh wow, I didn't foresee that! I'm not fully used to friends. Everyone usually thinks I'm weird or annoying, so they tend to steer clear of me. But Daniel wants to be friends with me? It feels nice."
Daniel - "Dawn is a little weird, yeah, but she has a good heart and she seems chill. I could definitely see her becoming a good friend of mine."
"Next, can I have Maverick move towards the right?" The blond nodded, running towards the right, scooting in next to Bridgette. He didn't notice the faint look she gave him, a flash of curiosity on her face.
"Shawn and Owen, I need you to head towards the left!" The big oaf let out a loud cheer, rushed over and almost knocked over Gwen, who sent a glare to the overweight teen. Shawn took his time, walking over, making sure to check his surroundings from any surprise attacks.
The final three; Mabel, Soren and Vivian all looked around, curious at the direction they would be going. Mabel mostly looked curious, while Vivian looked annoyed and Soren seemed to barely be present.
"Soren! You and Vivian will be heading towards the right!" Soren nodded, walking over while Vivian rolled her eyes.
"Great. So glad I'm on a team with this guy. So ecstatic." She followed Soren, as Mabel pointed to the left, which Chris answered with a nod.
With the campers now completely separated, Chris clapped, looking towards the two groups.
"I think we increased the word count enough, so let's get to placements," he started, turning to the group on his left. He randomly pulled out a pole with a light green wrap around it before chucking it towards the teens. Courtney was the one to catch the pole and started to unfurl it.
"Left side! That means, Samson, Shawn, Gwen, Courtney, Heather, Levi, Owen, Daniel, Mabel, Dawn and Lindsay! You all are going to be the Vociferous Vipers!" At the same time, Courtney let the flag fly, revealing a green flag with a giant snake on it, flashing it's fangs out. The team mostly smiled at it, but Lindsay groaned once again.
"This is so complicated! I don't even know what we are! What's a vocificus?" She asked in confusion. Mabel patted the girl's shoulder, explaining the word and its terminology, which only made the girl's head swirl more. Owen chuckled at the antics while Chris turned towards the right team.
"On our other side!" He threw the pole, which was caught by Soren. "We have Cody, Duncan, Izzy, Bridgette, Geoff, Maverick, Soren, Vivian, Kara, Ezekiel and Charlie! You guys are going to be the Cut-Throat Crocodiles!" The team cheered as the flag unfurled to show a red background with a crocodile ready to snap his mouth shut. From the other side, Samson frowned slightly.
"Aw, it would have been so cool to be a crocodile." Shawn nodded slightly, while Gwen scoffed, glancing towards a certain raven-haired teen.
"I don't know, it seems pretty fitting for some of us to be snakes." Heather couldn't help but scowl, turning away from the group.
"Enough of that!" Chris spoke, walking towards the center. "It's time for Lunch!" The original campers all let out a groan, confusing some of the new campers, but not all of them.
Confessional Cam
Levi - "I've heard horror stories about the food here on the island. /He gulps/ I'm really hoping it was being exaggerated by the campers!"
Maverick - "So I never actually watched Total Drama Island. But, I definitely heard the rumors about Chef's food. Let's just say, I look forward to doing lots of extreme activities, but even I don't look forward to doing that!"
Daniel - "Okay, moment of truth! /He gulps/ I wouldn't say I have a weak stomach, but I definitely have a weakness for terrible food. I just want to be able to eat something!"
(Mess Hall)
Dawn stared at the plate of slop that was handed to her, confusion on her face. Chef watched her stare, his anger rising.
"You got a problem with the food, pale girl?" She looked back up, pointing at the food.
"I'm just a vegetarian and I'm not entirely sure if this has or doesn't have meat in it." Next to her, Bridgette shared her sentiment, eyeing the food with a cautious eye. Chef simply chuckled, scooping up more food.
"I'll tell you this, it definitely doesn't have meat in it." He chuckled again to himself, leaving the girls to exchange a look, simply wondering exactly what the man meant by that.
The girls separated, heading to their respective team tables, with Bridgette sitting next to Geoff and Duncan, while Dawn sat next to Daniel and Samson. Levi groaned, pushing his food forward, green in his face.
"How did you guys even survive last summer? I don't think this is even edible!" Next to him, Gwen shrugged, taking another bite.
"You get used to the food. Plus, it's this or nothing." Levi shook his head, even more disgusted that Gwen was able to eat the slop. On his other side, Owen leaned towards him, his face covered in the food.
"You gonna finish that?" Levi pushed the bowl towards Owen, who squealed and started to scarf the bowl down. From the other side, Daniel gagged, holding his mouth shut.
"Oh don't be such a pansy. We had to eat this all the time, you'll survive." She smirked to Daniel, who gave her a look in response. Next to Heather was Samson, who simply poked his food.
"I'm pretty sure it's moving." Courtney sighed from across the table, resting her elbows on the table.
"It's like you guys didn't know what you were getting into when you signed up for the show?" As the Vipers talked and groaned about food, a different conversation was happening at the Crocodiles.
"So what do you think? Something incredibly wild or annoying?" Duncan asked, looking at Geoff and Bridgette, who both shrugged.
"Knowing Chris, he will probably just repeat one of the challenges from the 1st season. Seems like the easiest thing to me." Geoff remarked, wrapping an arm around Bridgette's waist.
"Oh oh oh!" Izzy shouted, jumping in between Duncan and Bridgette. "Izzy hopes it's the cliff again! That was so much fun!" Duncan was about to push the crazy girl away, but a gulp from the other side made him stop.
"I sure hope not, eh! I'm still hurting from hitting the rock last time!" Ezekiel muttered, looking down towards his legs. Thanks to him looking down, he didn't notice the glare from Bridgette.
"God, you guys really ate this?" Kara started, sniffing the food and gagging, which only made Cody chuckle more before taking a spoonful.
"Your stomach gets adjusted to it. It'll just take some time! But," he leaned closer to Kara, whispering in her ear (and making her blush heavily). "I do know where Chris and Chef keep the good stuff. I'll show you later!" He sent her a sly wink that didn't look that sly, but she still giggled and nodded.
"Just know that I'm onto you." Vivian spat, taking a spoonful of her slop and chewing menacingly, which only made Soren cock an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry? What?" He also took a bite, neither of them dwelling on the taste.
"You heard me. I'm onto you pretty boy! I know you're up to something and you won't get away with it" Soren was about to speak up in confusion when the door to the Mess Hall slammed open, and the host walked in with a smile.
"Howdy campers! We enjoying the cuisine?" He got some glares, but most of the original contestants knew to ignore him and not give him the satisfaction. "Anyway, I hope you're all ready! I'm going to need you to grab your swimsuits and meet me at the cliff! The first challenge of Total Drama Reborn starts now! A revamp of the first challenge from Total Drama Island, to christen all our new campers." The older campers rolled their eyes, while the newer ones seemed to be a little worried. But out of everyone, Izzy was cheering, jumping in the air.
"Ha ha! Izzy called it! Izzy is so smart! Izzy is the greatest!"
Confessional Cam
Bridgette - "I'm not sure Chris' plan here? Most of us jumped last season, so what makes him think we won't this time? I really hope he doesn't try to mix it up or something?"
Ezekiel - "Of course, eh! I can already feel the pain in my legs! I really don't wanna jump this time, eh!"
Heather - "The same challenge, huh? At least this time I don't have a LeShawna to throw me off. No matter. /She takes a deep breath/ Until I get some allies, I can only rely on myself!"
Maverick - "I was told the first challenge was jumping off a 1000 ft cliff! Dude, this is going to be so great! I'm so excited!"
(Top of the 1000 ft cliff, an hour later)
Chris stood at the cliff as all 22 campers were near him. He gestured to the cliff, his smile widening.
"Alright campers, for those returning, I'm sure you remember the challenge, but I still have to go over it for the new guys, but you should definitely pay attention, since the rules are going to be a little different this time around!" The campers exchanged looks, all of their attention on the host now.
"In order to get points for your team, you need to jump off this cliff into shark infested waters! There is a safe zone down at the bottom, where we are mostly sure there are no sharks. Now, last season, as long as you jumped, you scored a point for your team. But the producers decided that was way too easy, so this season, you have to make it in the safe zone, or no points are given!" Cody chuckled, walking towards the cliff.
"Seems easy enough," he began before his eyes widened as he looked down the cliff. "Hey, uh, Chris? That zone looks smaller than last time… Like a lot smaller." The host chuckled, nodding at Cody.
"That is correct. We also figured that the safe zone was just way too big. So we needed to make it smaller for points sake! We also made one other change," he started, a wicked smile on his face. Some of the original campers walked towards Cody, wanting to look over to see just how small it was now, but Cody suddenly yelped, scrambling back. Just as he jumped back, the cliff shook violently, making everyone scream and scramble, while Kara fell on her face, groaning. Just past Cody, a giant red laser shot towards the sky, making everyone's jaw drop.
"LASERS!?" Cody screamed out, shaking tremendously. The host laughed, nodding.
"That's right. All the sharks have lasers attached to them! Don't ask how, but we got it done! We totally didn't lose three interns to that." Several campers gulped, their fear of the challenge now increasing. Two campers, however, did not share that sentiment.
"Izzy is so excited! Can she go first? Can she? Can she?" Izzy burst out, excitement on her face, while Maverick was next to her, an eager smile on his face as well.
"Oh come on McLean! Let us go first!" The host laughed a bit before patting both their heads, shaking his head.
"Sorry my eager little campers, but we already decided that the Vipers are up first! Now," he turned towards them, his smile darkening as another laser shot behind him towards the sky. "Who's up first?"
Confessional Cam
Gwen - "He can't kill us right? Because this feels 100% like a death sentence! The first jump was bad enough, but now we have to do it with a smaller hole and things shooting at us? /She pauses briefly, signing and pinching the bridge of her nose/ Don't take that out of context."
Owen - "/He gulps, tapping his fingers together/ I… Don't think this is going to end well for me. I'm not sure if this new tighter circle will even be able to fit me!"
Dawn - "Oh no… This jump is giving me such bad vibes. I don't think anything bad will happen, but… I've been wrong before."
Vivian - "Easy peasy. I can do anything this game wants to throw at me! Let's go Chris McLean!"
"I guess I can start it off…" An uneasy Shawn muttered, slowly inching his way towards the cliff. Just as he was at the edge, Chris spoke up.
"Be careful with aiming or even looking down there. The sharks might see you and get mad and shoot more lasers!" Shawn gulped, but shook his head. He didn't have much choice here and he took a few steps back, ready to get a running start. With a loud cheer, he rushed forward, leaping off the cliff while the Vipers gasped.
"Hoooooolllly Cooooow!" Shawn sputtered out as he flew down the cliff, careful to dodge any lasers that might come flying his way. After what felt like an eternity, Shawn painfully splashed into the center of the ring, floating down slowly. He resurfaced quickly, a smile on his face.
"Guys, it wasn't that bad! You can- Aiie!" He was cut off quickly as he dived under the water, narrowly avoiding a laser that was blasted at his face.
From the cliff side, Chris whistled, turning back to the campers.
"And with that, the Vipers have a point. Who is next up on the jumping cliff?" He chuckled slightly at his own joke as Heather of all people stepped forward.
"No time like the present, right?" As she stepped forward, Gwen looked around, confused.
"Wait, you're going to jump? Voluntarily!?" Heather nodded, gulping as she reached the cliff's edge. "Heather is actually doing the challenge?" She asked no one in particular, but Lindsay next to her shrugged, equally as confused (but then again, when isn't she confused?)
"All I can say is that if I die, I'm haunting you for all time Chris. And I will mess up your hair 24/7." The host gasped, clutching his hair, a tear almost falling down his eyes. "Here I GOOOOOOooooo!" She kicked off a small running start before leaping off the cliff, her arms and head facing down as if she was a professional diver. Her screaming stopped almost instantly, as the lasers started to shoot towards her. Using her momentum, she was able to dodge the lasers, and even kicked off the rocks to dodge one, and fell into the safe zone gracefully with a large splash.
From the top of the cliff, Daniel was watching with his eyes glowing.
Confessional Cam
Daniel - "Okay… That was hot."
"Vipers are at 2 points! Let's get the next person going, we don't have all day!" Chris exclaimed, while Lindsay clapped, running towards the edge.
"Oh let's go! My turn, my turn!" She squealed out, ignoring Courtney's pleading words behind her.
"Wait, Lindsay, open your-" She wasn't able to warn the girl in time, as Lindsay rushed over and ran into Daniel, knocking them both off the cliff. Courtney groaned, slapping her face in annoyance. Dawn gasped, rushing towards the edge, as did Samson.
"Daniel!"
"Big boob lady!" They shared a look for a moment, where Samson nervously smiled. "I mean, Daniel!"
Lindsay was screaming, flailing her arms around while Daniel was attempting to swim in the sky to adjust himself. Satisfied, he smiled as he flew down the cliff, before the screaming from Lindsay started to get on his nerves.
"Oh for pete's sake!" He shouted over the wind, and proceeded to grab Lindsay by the arm, adjusting her positioning, just in time for them to both land in the safe zone. Dawn let out a sigh of relief, while Daniel resurfaced in the water to see a grateful and blushing Lindsay, and an annoyed Heather.
"You couldn't wait for me to get out of the circle? Just had to try and crush me?" Daniel rolled his eyes, not in the mood for her bitchiness at the moment, while Lindsay squealed, wrapping her arms around Daniel.
"Yay, thanks for saving me Damien!" He tried to sputter a response, but the blonde's large… erm… assets… were busy smothering him, making him also flush red. Heather simply shook her head, swimming towards the boat that was going to take them to shore.
Way above, Chris laughed and held up a 4 with his fingers.
"4 points so far. Gotta say, Vipers are on a role! Can we get the next camper to jump please?" Gwen groaned, stepping up to the plate.
"Well, if Lindsay can make it, then I better sure as hell make it." She placed herself in a running position and sprinted towards the cliff, kicking off the edge at the last second. As she leapt, her eyes widened at seeing just how small the circle was, as well as the flashes of red that were flying towards her.
"Oh craaaaaaaaaaa-" She screamed out, the word never being finished as she fell.
Luckily for her, it was over in an instant. Before she even could realize, she was splashing into the safe zone for her team. She swam up, spitting some water out, but wearing a grin on her face.
"I'm alive! Holy crap, I'm alive!" As she cheered, Chris let out a soft chuckle, raising another finger to make it 5 total. Before another word was said, they heard a loud cheer and Samson rushed from the back, leaping off the large cliff.
"Let's go! Whoo hoo!" The men sped down like a bullet, with Gwen comparing it the whistle of a bomb dropping. Before she could think anything else though, Samson landed next to her, splashing her with all kinds of water. As he surfaced, he shot her a grin, which she just answered with a glare.
Confessional Cam
Samson - "Look, I know Gwen has the stereotype as the Loner or the Goth or whatever, but sometimes she really does seem like a stick in the mud. It just feels like everything annoys her. /As he thinks, he suddenly gasps, putting both his hands on his face./ She's so tsundere! Why didn't I see it before!?"
Gwen - "Okay, I might need to chill, but can you blame me? Everything on this island just drives me crazy! I don't have LeShawna or Trent here with me! I'm stuck on a team with stupid Heather! /She sighs, putting her legs to her chest/ I think this island just brings the worst out of me. Everyone is just a baka! /She raises an eyebrow/ Wait, what did I just say?"
"Alright, it seems like the universe has decided it's my turn!" Dawn stated, taking a few steps back. "Doesn't make it any less… terrifying though." She gulped, psyching herself up.
"Oh man, you got this! It's going to be awesome!" Owen shouted, cheering for her. Next to her, Levi was nodding, clapping for her. She turned to her other side, getting a thumbs up from Courtney, while Mabel gave her a shaky smile. With a nod, Dawn started to run, not very fast, until she kicked off the edge of the cliff. And then she started to scream.
Unlike the other campers, she started to spin in a circle, her face quickly turning green. From afar, Heather scoffed, flipping her hair.
"Looks like we are going to lose our first point thanks to the weird hippie chick." Next to her, Daniel growled, giving the girl an angry side eye.
"Hey Heather? Buzz the hell off!" He spat, looking back towards Dawn and not seeing Heather's shocked look on her face.
Confessional Cam -
Heather - "What the hell? One second, he wants to get to know me and he's flirty, and the next, he's telling me to leave him alone? Excuse me? Any guy would be LUCKY to get any attention from me! All I know is that Daniel better make up his mind on how he wants to approach me! It's not like I need him or anything!"
Samson - "/Reading his manga, but he gives the camera a knowing look, mouthing the word 'Tsundere'/"
Daniel - "Okay, it's really a spectrum. I like girls with a little attitude, a little bit of bitch in them! It's cute. But if they are just going to be annoying and unbearable 24/7, then no. Like I said, Heather is cute and I definitely want to get to know her on a more personal level, but if she is going to bad mouth my friend and just be a pain to be around, then it's a hard pass from me. She needs to learn how to be better!"
Dawn continued to scream as she adjusted her path, desperately trying to get back into the trajectory of the circle. With some slight maneuvering, she barely landed in the circle, resurfacing with heavy breaths. She could hear the cheers of her teammates and she knew she succeeded, swimming towards the boat with a smile.
"Nice job, dude!" She got to the boat and looked up to see Daniel, his hand outstretched for her. She nodded, taking his hand and accepting the help into the boat.
From the cliff, Chris looked towards the final 4 of the Vipers.
"Alright, that's 7 points. Can we aim for a perfect score for the Vipers?" As the host chuckled, Mabel looked over the edge, muttering to herself. After a few moments, she shook her head, turning to Chris.
"I'm sorry Chris! I've done the odds. I know they made it, but I don't like them! I have to chicken out." She lowered her head, but Chris patted her shoulder before placing the chicken hat on her black hair.
"That's okay, Chicken McScardy Pants! Head down to the beach!" With a frown and her head lowered, Mabel walked towards the others. "Alright, so much for a perfect score. Who is up next?" Owen stepped forward, slapping some goggles onto his eyes.
"I got this Chris. I've been training." Owen continued to walk forward, while Courtney looked confused behind him.
"Training? How do you train for this?" The only person to hear her was Bridgette, who shrugged in response. With a huff, Owen started to scream, charging towards the cliff. Everyone watched in horror as the man leapt (or at least tried to). From the beach, his teammates were cheering him on, some closer than others.
"You go Owen!" Samson shouted, while Shawn was jumping up and down in joy. Daniel and Dawn were also cheering, watching the man fall at great speeds, but then Daniel noticed that his other teammates were missing, and turned to see Heather, Gwen and Lindsay hiding behind the trees, quite a ways away.
"What are you guys doing?" Heather chuckled, looking at Owen, then back to Daniel.
"Oh, you're about to find out." He raised an eyebrow at the girl, but was distracted as Dawn started to pat his chest, trying to get his attention.
"I think we should probably back-" But she wasn't able to finish her sentence, as Owen slammed into the water, sending a tidal wave of water towards the campers on the beach. Samson and Shawn screeched, running to the trees, while Daniel and Dawn stood there frozen.
"Oh crap," was all Daniel was able to mutter as he and Dawn were hit by the full blast of the water, sending them flying back. From their safety spot, Heather chuckled again, while Gwen rolled her eyes and Lindsay clapped.
Confessional Cam
Lindsay - "Not that I like her or anything, but I am sooooo glad that Heather reminded us about the last time Omar jumped from the cliff. Actually, that was really nice of her! /She gasps/ Oh, is Heather going to be nice this season? /She thinks for a second then laughs, shaking her head/ No way!"
Gwen - "It was odd that Heather reminded Lindsay about Owen's splash effect. I figured she'd just snake away and let Lindsay get washed up!"
Heather - "I just remembered that it sucked and I know Lindsay has as much brains as a barnyard animal! I just wanted to help her out a little!"
"Wow! Even with the circle smaller, Owen still made it in!" Geoff shouted, looking down at the teen, who was floating in the circle, hitting the barriers at almost every angle. Chris laughed, turning towards Courtney and Levi.
"With Owen succeeding, you guys are sitting at a comfortable 8 points. Perhaps Courtney would like to jump next?" The CIT looked over the edge as he asked, and she looked at the angry sharks that swam near the circle, their laser cannons hissing and smoking.
"I'm going to pass." She turned away and walked towards the host, who was frowning.
"Seriously? You're going to pass on jumping for the second time?" Courtney smiled, glancing over at the other team.
"I think we are safe with 9 points. We won't need 10 in order to defeat them." Chris shook his head as Levi started to count on his hands, looking towards the girl with his mouth wide open.
"Wait, we only have 8 points!" She looked at him with a smile.
"Well yeah, but after you jump it will be 9!" She placed her chicken hat on and started walking towards the base of the cliff, down to the beach. Levi groaned, crossing his arms over his chest in annoyance. Luckily for him, Chris was also fairly annoyed.
"I got a proposition for you Levi," the host began, his expression still giving away his annoyed mood. "We are going to let the Crocodiles do their jumps now, and if they get more than 9, then they win and you don't have to jump without getting the chicken hat! However, if they get 8 and it's a tie, then you need to jump for the deciding factor!" Levi smiled, nodding his head.
"Wow! Yeah! Let's do that!" Chris smiled, turning towards the Crocodiles.
"You heard it! Who is up first?"
Confessional Cam
Levi - "Wow! That was actually pretty cool of Chris to do! Maybe he's just a big softie under that heart of mean! Maybe he's not actually mean and it's just a character he plays?"
Chris McLean - "I mostly let Levi do it because Courtney got on my nerves and I wanted to make it more climatic! Hopefully it gets into a tie and we have that true good drama!"
Courtney - "What? We had a high enough score and there was no way I was going to jump. It's up to Levi to get the win for us if it comes down to it, and I'm sure if that's the case, then they are going to see Levi failing to jump as the thing that made us lose. It's just strategy really. /She pauses for a moment/ And don't you dare say I sound like Heather!
Duncan - "/He sighs, pursing his lips/ I love her, but God, Princess does whatever she wants to sometimes. I just really hope she didn't screw herself here."
"I started it last time, right? I'll just go again!" Bridgette said with a smile, walking towards the edge once more. "Oh wow, that is a lot smaller." She turned back to see Geoff smiling, giving her a thumbs up.
"You got this!" Maverick shouted near them, making her smile from all the positive reinforcement. She looked back to the cliff, her gaze hardening. She started to run forward, gaining speed, before leaping off the cliff, flying below towards the circle. The sharks all watched in awe at her perfect form, forgetting that they were supposed to be shooting. They didn't realize they had to be shooting until Bridgette had safely splashed in the water.
From above, both Geoff and Maverick watched from the edge, smiles on both their faces.
"Oh wow!" Maverick remarked, while Geoff chuckled and nodded.
"I know right!"
Confessional Cam
Duncan - "Uh oh. Something tells me this ain't gonna end good."
Maverick - "Wow! That Bridgette definitely looks like something special! I'm going to have to get to know her a little better! I really hope she doesn't have a boyfriend!"
Geoff - "/He let out a loud cheer, waving his hat around./ That's my girl!"
Before Chris could say anything, Cody let out a loud cheer, his fists raised in the air.
"Let's go! I got this!" He zoomed forward, jumping straight off the cliff. As he cheered on his way down, he suddenly realized he was drastically off-course and was heading towards the shark infested waters. His cheer quickly turned to a scream, his arms and legs flailing around. From above, they all watched in horror as he slammed into the water, nowhere near the safe zone.
"Oof! So Cody fails, leaving the Crocodiles with 1 point still! Sure hope Cody is able to get out of there in time!" He chuckled as a blond blur ran past him. He barely had time to register it as Maverick leapt off the cliff, heading down in a straight shot to the safe zone.
"Oh crap! Oh crap!" Cody shouted, trying to swim away from the sharks, not hearing the small splash in front of him in the safe zone. As the shark descended down on him, he shut his eyes, ready to accept his fate.
"Let's go, little dude!" He was quickly grabbed and narrowly avoided the chomp of the sharks. Everyone watching gasped, watching with wide eyes. Cody was watching in horror as he was being dragged through the water. Before he could even register, he was at the beach, Maverick panting next to him.
"You doing good dude?" It took a moment for him to process Maverick's words before cheering, jumping on the man, who yelped, almost failing over.
"You saved my life! Oh my God, thank you!"
Confessional Cam
Cody - "Oh wow! Maverick was swimming faster than the sharks! How is that even possible? Either way, all my thanks go to him!"
Maverick - "Oh whoa, that was a close one. Really glad I was able to react in time. I really don't think that dude would have been able to swim out of the way in time!"
Bridgette - "He was on that instantly! Maverick didn't even hesitate to save Cody!"
"Well, Maverick scores you guys the second point! Pretty good on him also. Would probably have been the second time Cody had to leave the island due to injuries!" His joke was met with glares, which made him roll his eyes. "Oh, you teens are so sensitive. Anyway, who is jumping next?" From the group, Duncan walked over with his arms crossed.
"Whatever, guess I'll go. No biggie." Instead of running over like everyone else, Duncan simply walked off, falling straight down and showing no emotion, mirroring how he did it last season. Lasers were shot towards him, but he continued to act nonchalant, dropping into the middle of the safe zone. From the cliff, Chris cheered, looking back at the teens expectedly.
"Alright, that's more like it! Let's get going!" Izzy nodded, cackling as she rushed over to the cliff.
"Look out below!" She screamed as she leapt off, right as a laser blasted her. Everyone groaned and winced, while Ezekiel shivered and covered his eyes with his toque. After the laser passed, a burnt Izzy was in the air, her eyes in two different directions and her tongue out. She fell, landing on her head with a crunch before failing over the cliff, heading straight for the sharks.
"Oof! T hat's gotta hurt! Fitting end for Izzy, huh- Wait, Zeke what?" Chris was commenting on the events when Ezekiel rushed for, leaping off the cliff without a second thought. Normally, he wouldn't have been scared, as he jumped off this cliff the first season without a problem. But this time around, he was screaming, trying to catch the catatonic Izzy, and avoiding lasers.
He was able to catch up with the red head, and screamed his head off, rolling in mid air, barely landing in the safe zone.
"Wow! That was awesome! Two points for the Crocs!" Chris screamed from the top, while Ezekiel swam up, breathing heavily as Izzy finally regained her sense.
"Wha-who-wazis? Where is Izzy?"
Confessional Cam
Ezekiel - "Look, I don't know what came over me, eh! Izzy, even though she's insane, has been super nice to me and talking to me. She feels like a friend, and I don't have many of those, don't cha know?"
Izzy - "Izzy was in the spirit world, so she didn't know what happened, but she heard that Zekey jumped and saved Izzy! It was amazing and.. /She stops for a moment, but shakes her head/ Izzy is grateful that Zeke saved her!"
"With Ezekiel and Izzy, the Crocs are currently at 5 points! Almost catching up to those pesky Vipers!" Vivian rolled her eyes at the host, stepping forward.
"Whatever. Watch this perfect dive. No one can dive live me, certainly not some unskilled wannabees!" She got into position as she spat this out, though it mostly felt like it was directed towards ONE wannabe, not multiple wannabees. Taking a jogging start, she leapt off, doing a few flips as she soared down. After a few seconds of flips, she straightened and hit the safe zone, making the smallest splash out of everyone. As she surfaced, the sharks next to her nodded, all three holding up signs that said '9'.
"Ha! Just you try and beat that Sore-Loser!" Soren rolled his eyes at the nickname she decided to give him before getting himself into position as well. With a quick sprint, he was also off the cliff, flipping through the air, but much more elegantly, before landing in the safe zone next to Vivian, but his splash was almost non-existent.
Rising from the water, he gave Vivian a smirk as they heard the sounds of clapping. Turning, the sharks watching in awe, all holding up '10's'. She scoffed and rolled her eyes, swimming away from everyone, but Soren chuckled, following her.
"What? Upset that I upstaged you Vivi-Lame?"
"Ugh, gross. That is a terrible nickname!"
"Oh and Sore-Loser is better?"
"It makes sense! Your name is Soren! It literally has sore in it! There's nothing with lame in my name!"
The two continued to bicker as they swam, while Chris chuckled from the top, looking towards the rest of the Crocodiles.
"Aw, young love. Anyway! We got 7 points now! Which means they are 1 point away from tying it with the Vipers! We still got 3 jumpers. You should probably get nervous now Levi!" The smaller teen in question gulped, looking towards the other team. Geoff let out a cheer, walking towards the cliff.
"Been waiting for my moment to shine! Let's go!" And without another word, Geoff ripped off his hat and leapt, waving it in the air as he cheered. A laser blasted towards him, singeing his hair, which made him lose his composure and his cheering turned to screaming.
"Oh Geoff, oh baby no…" Bridgette muttered, watching him fall before belly flopping straight into the safe zone with a loud smack. Everyone winced and Bridgette covered her eyes, as Geoff groaned, slowly sinking into the water.
"Well then! We are tied at 8 and 8. Who is going to jump next?" Kara rushed over towards the host, worry in her eyes.
"Wait, what happens if we tie? Do we both lose?" Chris rolled his eyes, really hoping no one asked him that.
"Originally, it meant both teams lost! But after talking with legal, we decided that a tie would mean that both teams get the advantage in the next challenge. But that would be boring. So please don't do that." Levi and Kara both sighed at his words, happy they wouldn't have to jump.
"Oh good! I'm so glad I-" Her words died in her mouth as she tripped in her position, smacking into the floor and flopping off the cliff towards the water.
"Kara!" Cody screamed, watching in horror, but there was nothing he could do as she slammed into the water, far from the safe zone. There was a stunned silence as they watched in horror, just seeing the bubbles from where Kara landed.
"Is she okay?" Ezekiel asked, to no in particular as all the campers watched in horror, minus Soren and Vivian, who were still bickering.
"She hit that water hard. Maybe she hit a shark and knocked it out?" Heather asked, trying to be helpful and ignoring the glares sent her way from Courtney, Gwen and Daniel. Before anyone else could say anything, she burst from the water, her face red and in mid-air, running on the air to get away from the shark that chomped right behind her.
"Help!" She screamed out, clutching the buoy as the sharks circled her, shooting lasers above her head. "Please oh please!" By this point, Cody was in full on panic, biting his nails and running in circles. But he didn't have to worry much, as a certain red head was already on the buoy.
"Argh! Avast ye matey! Izzy shall slay ye scallywags!" She suddenly brandished a huge sword, swinging it wildly, which only made Kara scream more. "Hey!" She shouted, eyeing Kara with a frown. Everyone, including the sharks, stopped to look at Izzy. "Izzy is trying to save you, and you're really ruining her screen time. So stop." She winked before going back to the sharks. "Izzy shall make ye walk the plank!" As she shouted and cackled, the boat arrived, which Kara swam to quickly, thankful for the distraction that was Izzy.
Confessional Cam
Kara - "Well, that was easily one of the most terrifying moments of my life! Thank God that Izzy is kinda crazy and wanted to fight those sharks! Although, her with a sword is probably more terrifying than laser sharks."
Cody - "Oh man! Kara was there and she could have died and all I did was sit there! If I want to impress a chick like Kara, I need to not be such a loser! /He pauses, frowning/ But what was I supposed to do? Go out there and save her! I feel like I would have hindered her instead of saving her!"
Izzy - "Izzy go swish swish swish!"
"So it's still 8 and 8, and we got a jumper from each team!" Chris looked towards Charlie and Levi. "What will it be?"
"We can tie it here Charlie and both get the advantage! Let's do that!" Levi started, looking at the girl with pleading eyes. She seemed to buy into it, about to agree, but Chris spoke up.
"Or, and just hear me out," he started with a grin. "You don't jump and you get the only chicken hat on your team, and Levi jumps, making the Vipers win. Wouldn't look too good for your team, huh?" Charlie's face hardened, looking back at Levi.
"Whoa whoa wait! I wouldn't do that Charlie! You gotta believe me!" She shrugged, getting into position.
"I believe you, lad. Even though Chris was trying to manipulate me, he has a point. It would look terrible if I'm the only one on my team with the chicken hat. Would leave me as prime pickings if we end up losing the entire challenge." She sent him an apologetic look. "Try and get a point also, so we can tie this again and both get that advantage!" With that, she took off, leaping off the cliff and leaving an incredulous Levi. Before anyone could register, Charlie splashed into the safe zone with a loud cheer.
"Crocodiles have 9 points! They are leading this game! It's all up to Levi now to win for his team! Can he do it? Or will he crack under the pressure!" With a chuckle, he turned to look at Levi, who was sweating and let out a gulp. As he looked over the cliff, it seemed to stretch on, making it seem farther and farther.
"Oh gods. I don't know if I can do this! Oh lord. Oh no." He fell to his knees, gasping while everyone from down below was cheering him on.
"You got this Levi! You can do it!" Samson shouted while Owen cheered next to him, a large grin on his face.
"You're the video game champ for a reason! You can make it!" Daniel shouted out, while Dawn next to him was clapping and Gwen was smiling in approval. Heather stood nearby, just watching with a neutral expression, arms crossed.
"You need to jump or you're going to lose us the challenge! You don't jump, you screw us all!" Courtney screamed, not noticing the glares being shot her way. Mabel, who was the only other person wearing a chicken hat, quickly scooted away.
Confessional Cam
Mabel - "So, I took a calculated risk, and it definitely seems like it was a mistake. Courtney and I are the only ones with chicken hats, so if we lose this challenge, then we are definitely going to get the full blame. I think I would be the target too, since everyone knows Courtney and I'm a nobody! Oh man, I need to figure out how to show my usefulness!"
"You gotta make a decision now Levi. Jump, or chicken hat?" Chris asked, pulling out a chicken hat from behind his back.
Levi continued to breathe heavily, and shut his eyes. He listened to everyone's cheers (and Courtney's yelling) and finally got to his resolve. He opened his eyes and stepped forward, standing at the edge with clenched fists. Samson giggled slightly, nudging Owen.
"Anime redemption arc." Owen nodded, though wasn't really sure what he was nodding for.
"Alright, let's do this," he started by stepping back. "LEEEERROOOY JEEEENKINS!" Levi screamed out, jumping off the cliff, plummeting straight to the water. Dawn watched, a frown on her face.
"Oh no," she whispered, but Daniel was close enough to hear it, who simply nodded in response.
Levi continued to fall, quickly going off course. He tried to use his gaming knowledge of trajectory to adjust his fall, but he was too small to make any difference and landed right outside the safe zone.
All the Vipers let out cries of anguish, while the Crocodiles cheered out. At the same moment, Chris floated down, holding an umbrella helicopter thing. Cody looked at the device in awe, even as Chris handed it to a blonde female intern, who appeared out of nowhere.
"Thank you Jennette!" The blonde girl gave him a sneer before walking off with the umbrella. "The Crocodiles win the challenge with 9 points! And even better, not a single chicken among them!" Courtney scowled, glaring at the host, while Mabel looked down in disappointment. "Woulda been nice too, seeing as how every camper that jumped for the Vipers made it in the safe zone! Well, except for Levi of course!" He laughed as Levi just swam up from the water, who looked very annoyed.
"Now you returning campers already know what's coming next, but for exposition's sake, we are going to keep explaining! We have 8 large boxes here," as he spoke, 8 large boxes, separated in stacks of 4 slammed down behind him, shaking the ground. "Each team has 4 boxes and inside these boxes are the parts needed to make yourself a nice and beautiful Hot Tub."
"You need to take these boxes all the way back to camp, where you will then open these boxes, using only your teeth! Once they are open, you have until dinner time to get that hot tub made! Team with the best hot tub wins the first challenge of Total Drama Reborn!" A lot of the newer campers looked at the crates, frown's on their faces; the boxes were much larger than they appeared on TV.
"Also! Crocodiles won the first part of the challenge, so they get an advantage here! Some pull carts to help them with that trek back to camp!" The Crocodiles cheered again as the carts pulled up.
"Now, it looks like we have about 5 to 6 hours until the sun goes down. Better get to work campers!" He laughed once more, walking off as the campers all looked at the crates. The first person to speak was Courtney, who stomped her foot in the dirt.
"Ugh, we should have had that advantage, but we lost it again! All you had to do was fall in a straight line, how was that so hard, Levi?" She shouted towards the gamer, who growled, shoving a finger straight at her as well.
"Are you serious? You didn't even jump! How can you scream at me when you refused to do it?" She scoffed, pressing a hand to her chest.
"In case you noticed, I didn't need to! The score would have been tied if you made it and we would have carts as well!" As the two glared at each other, they were passed by Samson, who was holding a crate on his shoulder, making both their eyes bulge.
"Let's get going! The other team has already started." The arguing duo looked over to see the Crocodiles already walking towards camp, all their boxes on the carts. Looking towards their own, they saw Lindsay and Owen struggling to carry a crate, Shawn, Gwen and Mabel on the other, and Daniel pushing the last one, Dawn trying to help him, while Heather watched. The two sent one more glare to each other before disbanding, Levi going towards Owen and Lindsay, and Courtney helping Shawn.
As all the campers started the trek back, Chris popped back up, staring right at the camera. The blond intern from earlier, now identified as Jennette, was standing next to him, an annoyed look on her face.
"We got both teams heading towards the camp, and we got some heavy tension there on the Vipers! Will it be the end of them? Honestly, maybe! The Crocodiles seem to be holding it together a lot better." Jennette shrugged, looking over at the campers.
"They look a little ragged. Who knows who is going to win this," she spoke for the first time, her voice carrying a neutral tone. Chris smirked, looking back to the camera.
"Find out the answer and more, when we come back to Total! Drama! Reborn!"
Sweet, that's it for chapter 2!
Chapter 3 will wrap up the first day and will get us our first elimination ceremony! Are you all excited for that? Who do you think is the first person getting the boot?
I'm trying to average around 10,000 words per chapter, but it will vary per chapter, just because I don't want to fluff chapters with unneeded stuff, while also not wanting to make it so long that everyone just skims or doesn't read. Lately, I've been thinking of less words, but let me know!
Tell me, what do you prefer? I think they might get shorter later on, it's just harder when you have… Twenty something characters to focus on.
