Chapter 5

The awkwardness of the morning faded away quickly as Tim and Lucy began their day. Lucy had to get in Tim's truck by way of the garage. She hunkered down until they distanced themselves from Tim's house. It was a just in case scenario.

"I saw two patrol cars." Lucy noted as she sat upright. "Last night. Were they still there?"

"Yeah. Hey, you didn't open the curtains and look out?" It was the Tim T.O. Voice.

"No. I saw them when I let Kojo out. No one can see me with that huge privacy fence you put in." Lucy rolled her eyes. "Besides, we don't even know if Rosalind cares to rehash Caleb's plan. It was more about Nick Armstrong . He's dead."

"I won't chance losing you." Tim's voice shook slightly with emotion.

Lucy licked her lips as she turned to glance at Tim. Their eyes met briefly in a silent acknowledgment of needing one another in each other's lives.

After that moment, sergeant and aid took over. They discussed where to patrol for today. They discussed lunch. Lucy tried to convince Tim that Kojo needed a new toy. They tried to guess what gender Nyla's baby would be. They laughed at an old story shared. They fell into their easy conversation.

After roll call, Tim and Lucy again fell back into routine. By lunch, they had made two arrests. One was petty theft. The other was drug possession with intent to sell.

They were in the middle of the station trying to decide where to go for lunch when Angela walked up with Nolan in tow.

Angela nodded for Tim to follow her leaving Lucy with Nolan. Nolan immediately started mundane conversation with Lucy.

"How is she?" Angela asked as she addressed Tim.

"Okay. I mean I know she's nervous. But Chen is strong." Tim rubbed the back his neck. "I think she feels safer at my house. Of course, I slept on the couch." He added quickly.

"Tim, I never doubted the situation was about her safety." Angela grinned at her best friend's quickness to protect Lucy's reputation.

Angela inhaled and exhaled. "I've spoke to the captain and Grey. I was given permission to tell you first before letting anyone else in on this. Firstly, I picked Nolan and Harper because of Nolan being able to connect with Rosalind. Not because I was wanting you or Lucy to be on the outside of this."

Tim nodded his head in understanding. "I get that. But what else is going on?"

"We received an anonymous DVD about an hour ago. Forensics were getting any fingerprints or DNA off of it." Angela reached to squeeze Tim's arm "Rosalind made sure her fingerprints were all over it. It was deliberate. We haven't watched it yet. We just got it back from Forensics."

"What are we waiting for?" Tim pushed from the wall he was leaning on.

"Tim, hold up. We want to know if Lucy can handle watching or do we watch first?" Angela peered over at Lucy smiling at Nolan. He must've told her a joke. "Fresh analysis is best but you know her better than anyone."

Tim glanced at Lucy as well. "I think she can handle anything. But I'll leave that decision to her."

Tim wanted so badly not to allow Lucy the chance to view the DVD. However, he couldn't take that decision from her. He'd hate it if it was taken from him. They headed back towards Lucy and Nolan.

"Is everything ok? Do you need anything?" Nolan showed genuine concern. "Did you sleep okay?"

Lucy held up her hand to stop him from going on. " Seriously, Nolan. Do you have to ask? I slept great. Better than I have for a long time."

Nolan arched his eyebrow at Lucy's statement. Her face had flushed a crimson color. Nolan teased. "Oh? Really?"

"I slept on the couch. Kojo slept curled at my feet. Anyway, Tim is treating me like a porcelain doll when I'm at his house and off duty. He goes into old TO mode when we are on the job. I swear that man either has a split personality or is really good at his job."

Nolan and Lucy simultaneously stated. "Good at his job. ".

They both chuckled at the shared knowledge before talking about anything related to the Rosalind case. There were some minor leads needed checked.

Tim paused briefly at hearing Lucy's words about how and where she slept. He peered over at Angela, whose face lit up with a huge smile.

Under his breath, Tim stated with clenched teeth. "Not a word. Nothing happened."

Angela shrugged as she chuckled. "I never said anything."

Once they reached Lucy and Nolan, Tim sided up beside Lucy. "Hey, Angela needs to tell you something. But know it is completely up to you."
