While several of the Loud sisters had it rough at school, some harder than others, it was difficult to say how other students felt about Leni, the one sister who had enough sense to stop the maltreatment towards Lincoln by calling the police and confessing her part to play as well. Some say she might have saved her little brother's life, as the local police ran by the information that Lincoln had been sick for ten days without any treatment before Leni called an ambulance when he wasn't able to wake up on his own. And in addition, the case of child abuse, neglect, and endangerment against Lincoln was considered intentional because not one family member would allow Lincoln to take even the head of the mascot costume off, so they couldn't see just how bad his skin rashes and infections had gotten. While in the hospital and to the McBrides, Lincoln spilled all the details about his neglect without missing a beat. Leni had been assured by the representative of the Royal Woods CPS and Officer Schoffner that she did do the right thing, but who's to say that would get her entirely off the hook? But Leni wasn't even trying to get out of anything. She was trying to save her brother because she loved him and through that, she had come to her senses. Sure, she just happened to overhear him crying in his misery and sickness, in which case Lincoln ironically got lucky, but her act of self-sacrifice did bring up that maybe she had been goaded or even manipulated by her other sisters to go along with whatever the family was doing to Lincoln, no matter how neglectful.

And then one night, Leni heard Lincoln crying in his room and managed to catch a few words from him through the door to his room.

"I hate it here!" His voice was somewhat muffled, but Leni could hear him perfectly. "I wish I could get out of this place! They don't love me anymore..." Leni gasped upon hearing this and instinctively knocked on his door. "LEAVE!" Lincoln hollered upon hearing the knock and had a terrible coughing fit afterwards. Leni felt horrible, but in going along with what the family was doing to him, she felt that she had no choice but to leave him be. The poor blonde felt like crying, knowing that her only brother needed help, but she fought back her tears instead. It was time for her to be brave, even if her brother was still being labeled as bad luck while not wearing some silly mascot costume. Whether it was the heat of a moment or an instinct born of sisterly love, she knew what the right thing to do would be. However, it dawned upon her that there was a very real chance that their family would be changed forever. There would be no turning back and the right thing to do could cost everything that they hold dear, but Leni would not swallow her pride, not this time. There's no other way, she thought. Linky... I have to do this! Mom, Dad, LJ... forgive me. Her mind made up, she proceeded to slink off to the kitchen, where she was sure no one could hear her, and whipped out her cell phone to make a late-night call. She waited for the other end to answer and then replied.

"Leni L. Loud," she said, nervous but standing her ground. "I... I wish to report... a confession."

Things got progressively worse for Lincoln the following morning. Sick in his sleep, his breathing began to come out hitched. Leni knocked on his door again to check up on him, but got no response. So she carefully opened the door and what she saw nearly made her throw up. He was coated in skin rashes, his face was nearly as pale as his white hair, and she noticed his breathing was slightly abnormal. What do I do?! she thought frantically. Remembering that she had already been brave by calling the authorities to report that she and her family were neglecting Lincoln, she had to be brave in this situation as well. If there was to be an investigation against the Louds, it would have to wait. Hang on, Linky! she thought, dialing 9-1-1 on her cell phone.

"Leni L. Loud!" she said frantically when she got a response. "Yes, I called the police last night... Please help! My little brother is sick! His skin's all splotchy, his face his pale, he's having trouble breathing... 1216 Franklin Avenue!"

"Stay calm, Leni," said a voice on the other end. "We're sending an ambulance."

"Please hurry! I don't wanna lose him! I'm scared..."

It was fair to say that one could have mixed feelings about Leni. However, taking part in the bad luck fiasco was considered a red flag as is, yet questionable at the same time due to her naïveté and being ditzy, thus in all likelihood was swayed by her sisters, making them more of the guilty party than she was. Unfortunately, she did lose five of her friends because she went along with neglecting Lincoln to begin with. These five friends once had a sleepover with her and were present at a fashion show she hosted where they got to ogle her little brother in a Manotard. Perhaps it was because of how adorable they found Lincoln that they parted ways with Leni, as this same boy in the Manotard was later neglected and got sick because of the Loud family's actions, or rather what they didn't do to help him. But what mattered to Leni more than losing a few friends was that her only brother was alive and well. And of the entire Loud family, she was the only one who saw him again after he was discharged from the hospital, though he was having a meltdown at the time.

"Linky!"

It was Leni who found Lincoln minutes later and he was still crying his eyes out. He looked up, hearing Leni's voice and Leni saw a few blades of grass stuck to his face from him sobbing face-down. He did not try to run, so Leni knelt down, pulled Lincoln onto her lap, and held him tight.

"Linky!" she cried. "Oh, Linky!" She hadn't held her little brother properly since the day he had to start wearing the squirrel suit, but she knew then and there, if it was one thing her parents were right about, it's that Lincoln was never bad luck. She stroked his white hair on the top of his head. "Oh, it's been too long since I got to hold you like this! That's all I wanna do right now! I should never have listened to LJ... She's feeling really awful, by the way." But Lincoln could not stop crying. "Oh, Linky... it's gonna be alright, I promise. I'm sorry I told you what Mom and Dad said about you... but I had to! I couldn't keep it a secret and have you be hurt even more if you found out later!" Lincoln hung limp in Leni's arms, just letting his tears fall on her, so Leni did what a big sister and a mother would do. She gently began to shush him and rock him slightly back and forth. "It's okay, Linky... At least now... your parents can't hurt you anymore." Lincoln's crying quieted a couple of minutes after Leni's words and at the same time, Clyde caught up to him.

"Lincoln..." he murmured. Normally, Clyde would likely be furious at any of Lincoln's sisters, since each one of them went along with the bad luck fiasco, but he knew that Leni somehow had enough sense to bring it all to an end, so she was one sister Clyde didn't have to be mad at, especially since he overheard much of the phone conversation. Instead, he formed a three-way hug with the brother and sister. They held each other for a long time.

"Deep breaths, Linky," Leni cooed. "Deep breaths." Lincoln did as he was told, tears still in his eyes. When he finally calmed down, Clyde released his hug and Leni still held her little brother on her lap as he looked into her eyes.

"Leni..." he murmured.

"Yes, Linky, it's me," she said, tearing up herself. "I'm here."

"How did you find me?"

"I was actually gonna come and see you. And I heard you crying, so I hurried here."

"Leni... I..." Leni gently shushed Lincoln, stroking his white hair.

"Linky... please listen to me," she said. "Yes, I did abandon you once... but I swear to God I'll never ever do it again! I can't just say that I went along with the others as an excuse."

"But what if we do get separated?"

"We're not gonna worry about that right now... okay?"

"...Okay." Leni gave Lincoln a kiss on his forehead. She and Clyde then proceeded to walk him back to the McBride's residence.

Leni was obviously not confident that she and Lincoln wouldn't be separated. The odds were stacked against their parents, for one, and Lori was just a few months shy of becoming a certified adult and she didn't exactly have the best track record with her little brother either. In addition to the case of domestic abuse, if other people came to testify in court, all kinds of things could be revealed and the Loud family would never be the same again. There was no guarantee that Leni wouldn't lose Lincoln, so her only hope and saving grace was her helping Lincoln... because it was the right thing to do.
