When Carol ends up in the small town of Liberty with her daughter, she finds herself among a crowd of people that seem like they might not be the most desirable bunch. As an outsider herself, she soon discovers that she can't judge a book by its cover and sometimes the most unlikely of people can become the closest family.

"I'm a Thorne," Sammy shrugged. "You're a thorn in my side," Daryl teased. She shoved him playfully. "That's the cheesiest thing I've ever heard."

While adjusting to life in Alexandria, Daryl finds himself in an unlikely friendship with Aaron, and they discover they have more in common than they originally thought. This story is mainly Aaron/Daryl, but becomes Aaron/Paul R. for a few chapters later in the story before returning to the original pairing.

Two strangers at the beginning of the apocalypse share an important connection but are fated not meet and instead go down two different paths. Fate however has bonded these two through one shared commonality, Carl Grimes. After years of separate hardships and tragedies for both Rick and Michonne, will fate finally draw the two experienced warriors together?
