His little brother was dead. That's the only thought that reverberated through his head as his golden eyes gazed unblinking at the burnt corpse in front of him. Ten Centuries of existence snuffed out and lying on a dirty kitchen floor.

"You will be returned to me… my brother." Klaus muttered. "And this betrayal will not go unpunished" 'This is my fault' he thought. Playing around with these children.. entertaining their schemes. A thousand years of bloodshed and death, Of entire countries crushed under their heels and these mere children thought they had a chance .

Their hubris had been entertaining at first. Despite being a myth to most of the younger generation of the supernatural community, none of those who actually knew who he was and what their family was capable of, had dared to challenge them for centuries. Even having to keeping a low profile because of the shadow war with their father had not stopped them from removing the hearts and heads of those who dared cross any of them.

Their sheer gutsiness had amused him at first, that and his connection to his one time friend had stayed his hand at first… still he had strongly considered removing their hearts and draining the doppelganger when he met…Her.

Caroline was unexpected. He remembered their first in person meeting as she lay dying from his hybrid's bite. His spies had informed him about her of course. The baby vampire that had managed to escape his ritual, girlfriend to the boy who would be his first hybrid. However nothing in the thin dossier he had been handed could have prepared him for what he would discover. She was beautiful even knocking on deaths door…. but more than that she was strong. She was defiant even then. Despite the horrendous pain of the werewolf venom…despite knowing that he could kill her before she could even think to protest... she had dared to banter with him. Refusing to show weakness or even to formally ask him to save her life. She had accepted her death and in that moment, she was the strongest person he had ever seen. From the moment her lips touched his skin to drink the blood that would save her life. He was captivated.

Their subsequent interactions would only Highlight what made her special. She was unafraid to challenge him, to speak her mind and make him burn with frustration and desire with every moment he spent in her presence. Perhaps if it had been hatred in her eyes he could have dealt with it , ignored the attraction and eventually connection he felt. But despite the hostility and reluctance she covered their interactions with, her eyes always spoke of genuine interest and even if she would rather die than admit it …attraction. He let her play the blond distraction and she was clever enough to know that he was doing so, willing to pretend to be fooled to steal every second alone with her that he could.

And that became their game, with neither openly admitting that they enjoyed every second of it. The verbal spars…the attempted seductions and the eventual mutual understanding of each other. He wondered on occasion if her friends realized how brilliant she was...how much she saw and understood and sacrificed for them. how lucky they were that she had caught his interest and how quickly they all would have died if he did not treasure their connection. Despite their attempts to betray him, he had let them off easy. the satisfaction of their deaths not enough to risk losing her. Because lose her he would. Despite their mutual attraction, Caroline Forbes was loyal to a fault, and he not only admired it, but craved it. One day that loyalty would be his. He loved her. He could admit this if only to himself. He was willing to wait, to sacrifice his pride and even some of his plans to stay in her light. but this had gone too far. Despite their differences and his brother's tendency to get under his skin, he had always admired the free spirit that his brother exuded. And now he was gone and the last words he had spoken to him were in anger. This could not stand. No one harmed his family and lived. He made an allowance for Finn because he knew the elder Mikaelson longed to die and no longer held the family's best interests at heart, but the affront against Kol would not be forgiven and if they thought this boundary spell would save them.. they were bigger fools than he thought.

A door opening pulled him from his musings. A tall muscled young man entered with a swagger, and his teeth clenched in anger at the smirk on the young man's face.

"Well if it isn't my traitorous Hybrid" he said nonchalantly ..refusing to let this pup see his anguish." Here to beg for your life?" he grinned at the furious look on Tyler's face ." Or has your mother's death not shown you the consequences of betraying me?

"Actually, I'm here to gloat. My friends will find the cure, And once they have it they will shove it down your throat and I can finally do what I have been dreaming about since the day I first met you.. pull your evil heart from your chest". Tyler bared his teeth at this declaration and Klaus could not restrain a snort at the young mans arrogance.

"I'm an Original. What makes you think my entire bloodline won't be cured with me?" a vulnerable look flashing in his eyes. Sensing weakness, Tyler moved in for the kill." I think that's Impossible. And I have until they find it to picture the best way to end your life… I can't decide because I want it to be special."

Klaus moved before the young hybrid could react and grabbed the teenager by the throat.

"So arrogant" he snarled. Enjoying the teenager futile attempts to free himself." You think you are the first enemy to assume I am at their mercy… You deserve far more than a quick death for what you have done. You and your friends will suffer in ways that will make you beg for a merciful release from this earth." With one quick motion he snapped the boys neck and let his body crumple to the floor. Klaus stared briefly at the body of his first hybrid and then stared again at the burnt corpse of his youngest brother… it was time. pulling out his phone, he dialed the number he had long since memorized. It rang once.. then twice. until finally a female voice answered the phone.

" Nik… is it true?" the voice asked before he could utter a word. He hesitated briefly before steeling himself." I'm afraid so little sister. But never fear. Our brother will be returned to us" he could feel his sisters sorrow over the phone and could see her determined face . Restoring their brother was never in doubt.

"Are you with them now?" he asked in their native tongue. "Yes." She responded in the language, acknowledging the need to avoid eavesdroppers." I was going to use them to find the cure and then kill them all myself."

"No Sister. Our brother was so afraid of this Silas being reborn that he was willing to risk my wrath and his life over it. We will not dishonor his sacrifice and everyone who has knowledge of the cure will be dealt with. Luckily, I have precautions in place. Knock out the witch and kill the professor. Bring the others to the mansion. Alive." Klaus paused…" I will inform Elijah and have him gather all the materials we possess on resurrection magic."

"I'll handle it Nik" Rebekah said before hesitating..." What about the cheerleader?"

"Be safe sister. We will decide the fate of everyone in mystic falls upon your return" he answered before hanging up the phone and contacting Elijah. "I will be there tomorrow.. I'll also inform our witches to peruse their family grimoires. " The Elder Mikaelson hung up and Klaus let out a smirk when he felt the magic trapping him disappear. His sister certainly moved quickly when she was motivatd.

Reaching down he grabbed his still unconscious hybrid and was about to pick him up when a blur slammed into him. Reflexes borne of a thousand years of conflict kicked in and with vampiric speed he used the momentum of the hit to capture the newcomer in an inescapable grip. Glancing at his attacker, he felt his traitorous heart skip a beat at the piercing blue eyes that stared angrily at him

" Hello Love" he said in a soft voice.

...

Hello everyone. This will be a short fic (probably only about 3 chapters) that details what should have happened after Kol's death in 4x12. I thought it was completely out of character for both Klaus and Rebecca to ignore it and essentially let everything slide. It is mostly canon up to this point outside of small changes I will make to eliminate plot holes and out of character actions from the show. Klaus is the Strategist who was careful enough to have a back up witch and werewolf for his ritual, not an impulsive teenager.

I would love any feedback you have and if you guys like it, I may do a few other short fics fixing the canon plot holes as best I can. I apologize for any grammar mistakes; I usually have a beta help me with such things.
