Finn's jaw dropped when Damian parked the car outside of Finn's home. There was a big banner hanging from the windows on the first floor with three words written in big, bold, black letters that was a clear message to Finn. A message all the neighbors had seen too.
WELCOME HOME CHEATER
It was true he had been cheating for a while now but he was dead sure that Campbell didn't know anything. His side piece was just that. A side piece that he didn't care much for. Just some free fuck, and he enjoyed the danger. He never thought he would be caught.
He wondered how long it had been there. He had been gone for a week. He got a feeling it wasn't put up there today. It will still only 10 AM, and there was no way Campbell would have waited with hanging that. Not with the message that was on it. His so called business trip had been a week's vacation with his side piece, and now that Damian had picked him up at the airport and driven him home, he came home to this.
"What the fuck is going on?" Finn asked.
"I guess she finally found out," Damian said.
Finn turned his head and stared at Damian. Damian was one of the friends Finn had been honest with when it came to this.
"Did you tell her?" Finn asked.
"Come on, give me some credit here. Of course not," Damian said.
"Then how does she know?" Finn raised his voice.
"Beats me," Damian shrugged. "Do you want me to drive you somewhere, or should we just sit here until you're ready to go inside?"
"No, I need to do some damage control right now. If she doesn't have any proof, I can convince her that whoever told her is lying," Finn said.
Damian picked up his phone from its holder on the dashboard. Sometimes he liked to film while driving so it was always placed there. Today he had been filming without Finn's knowledge and he wasn't done. He needed Finn's reaction when he made it inside the house.
Finn opened the car door and ran towards the house. Damian followed right behind with his phone in his hand. Finn unlocked the door and ran inside. He stopped in the living room and looked around. A lot of things were missing. The only things left were things he had bought.
"Where's all my stuff? Where's my fucking couch?" Finn asked.
"Didn't she buy the couch?" Damian asked.
"Shut up!" Finn snarled.
Finn ran to the bedroom upstairs and opened her wardrobe. It was empty.
"Fuck!" He yelled.
He ran through the house, looking at room after room, finding all her things gone. She had taken everything of hers and left the house that was originally his when they first met. It felt so empty all of the sudden. He finally turned around and looked at Damian.
"She's gone," Finn said.
"Of course she is," Damian said. "Did you honestly think she would forgive you for cheating? It's Campbell we're talking about. You knew from the start this was one thing she would never forgive. She watched her parents' marriage get blown to pieces because of cheating."
"She wasn't supposed to know!" Finn growled.
"But she does," Damian said.
"How?" Finn asked.
"Because I told her," Damian smirked. "Smile to the camera. She's watching you live."
Finn blinked two times while those words slowly sank in. His face turned into one of anger.
"What the fuck, Damian?" Finn yelled.
"Have fun buying new stuff," Damian said.
Damian turned around and walked out of the house. Finn came running out just as Damian was about to get into his car.
"Wait! Let me talk to her!" Finn pleaded.
"And tell her what? That I lied?" Damian asked.
"Yes," Finn answered.
"You just confessed in the car," Damian laughed. "Good luck pulling that off."
Damian got into his car and drove away. He drove straight home where Campbell was sitting in an arm chair with a cup of licorice tea. For some reason she fell in love with that arm chair three days ago when she moved into his home. All her things were being stored until she found a new place to live.
"How did you like the movie star?" He asked.
"It still hurts," she said.
He walked over to her and squatted down in front of her. Her dark grey eyes had a look of hurt in them. She nervously tried to tuck a strand of her toffee blonde, bob cut hair behind her ear but it made its escape right away due to the angle she was sitting.
"It's gonna hurt for a while but you'll get over it. I promise. One day you're gonna wake up and feel a little bit lighter than the day before," he said.
"And until then?" She asked.
"Until then you allow yourself to feel and work your way through it any way you feel is right. Tell me to buy junk food and I will. Watch sad, romantic movies and I'll watch them with you," he said.
She wrinkled her nose at that suggestion. He chuckled and patted her knee.
"I hate romantic movies," she said.
"I know but it was worth suggesting it just to see the face you pulled," he said. "Horror movies then?"
"So many horror movies. Let's do a marathon today. Oh, and junk food, please. I want a pizza, a burger, and a burrito," she said.
"Damn girl!" He laughed. "You must be hungry."
"I haven't eaten today so technically it'll be pizza for breakfast, burger for lunch, and burrito for dinner," she said.
"Technically," he nodded.
He stood up and spread out his arms.
"Give me a hug," he said.
She smiled at him, stood up too, and hugged him. He held her tight and stroked her over her hair.
"You're too good for him," he said.
"I know," she said. "Thank you for adopting me."
He laughed again and released her from the hug.
"My own personal puppy," he grinned.
"A puppy that wants pizza," she grinned too.
"Pizza, burger and burrito," he held up his car keys. "I'll be back soon."
