"Word to the wise my dear, never fall in love with an alien from another planet. It always ends badly."

Her mother's purring voice gears as Lena's dream self turns away from the unseen woman herself to start walking in the other direction. That direction turns out to be walking directly into a dance party already in progress as those oh-so-familiar violin notes play out.

The dance the phantom figures around her is equally familiar to the dreaming woman as the song notes.

"I guess this is what I get for watching, Moulin Rouge before bed." Lena sighs to herself as her newest dream unfolds around her. Then again, "El Tango de Roxanne" was her favorite of the movie's song choices so it seemed only fitting it would be the backdrop of tonight's dream.

'His eyes upon your face
His hand upon your hand
His lips caress your skin

Alex up on stage acting as tonight's lounge singer as Lena's dream self walks even deeper into the throng of already parting bodies obediently parting to allow Lena closer to the dance floor, she seemed intent on reaching before the song draws to its inevitable next verse.

It's more than I can stand.

Then she spots them. Or rather when she spots Her.

How could she not when the seemed to be the star of her dream looked so breathtaking in that enticing red dress as she spins around the dance floor with her equally familiar dance partner.

But why the sight of Kara in her boyfriend's arms caused the dreaming CEO such pain as the pair continue dancing in that familiar dance as the song continues playing was puzzling.

But this didn't make any sense as her mother's taunting words play once more in the background of the dancing couple.

"Never fall in love with an alien from another planet. It always ends badly."

But that was silly. Kara wasn't an alien.

Supergirl was.

And Lena was far from in love with the bubbly blonde. In crush maybe but she wasn't foolish enough to consider herself in full-blown love with her closest and dearest best friend.

After all, Kara was with someone else. So clearly, she didn't return Lena's unspoken affections.

Why does my heart cry?
Feelings I can't fight

The dream version of Kara had spotted Lena by now. Her eyes are full of regretful longing when they meet Lena's own.

You're free to leave me but
Just don't deceive me

And just like that on Kara's next spanned turn her dress was gone. Replaced with an instantly recognizable blue, red, and gold suit. Complete with a flowing cape that billowed out in a nonexistent breeze as her current boyfriend spins her back to him. Yet when she reaches that broad chest Kara was back in a much more casual 'reporter' style dress. The same clothes she'd been wearing the first time Lena had been introduced to her best friend. This time the memory was completed with Kara's hair pulled up in a ponytail. Her glasses are in place. The glare of the window pain lances doing nothing to hide the pain of those blue eyes when Supergirl's eyes once more find Lena's own across the dance floor.

And, please, believe me when I say
I love you

This time when Kara spins out of Mon El's arms, she comes to a stop directly in front of a stunned Lena Luthor.

Her hair was down, her glasses still in place on her nose, but the button-up navy-blue shirt she was now wearing was left untucked and hanging open across her shoulders revealing the crest anyone in National City knew to belong to the city's favored hero.

Her secret was finally unavoidably revealed.

"I love you, Kara," Lena says despite the stinging pain of her friend's betrayal.

"And I love you, Lena." Kara answers with a sad sigh "I thought it would have been obvious by now just how much." She continues sliding off her glasses and running a hand through her already wind-swept-looking hair. "But you're a Luthor. And I'm…I'm from Krypton." She reminds now taking her opened button-up shirt off completely leaving only her buckled black slacks hiding the rest of her familiar super suit but leaving that glaring red and gold 'S' symbol on full display across her chest.

"You know as well as I do, we can never be together."

Maybe it was because of her accelerated heart rate drumming faster than a hummingbird's wings against her ears that had drawn Kara from what passed for sleep these days since her not-so-smooth break up with Mon-El. Maybe it was the tired sobbing cry of her name followed by that heartbreaking cry of "Don't leave me." that has her speeding out from under the warmed covers of her bed. Only just remembering to change into her super suit before flying faster than even she knew she could out her bedroom window.

She lands as soundless as ever on the penthouse balcony what could have been seconds later thanks to her faster than sound flying across town to the apartment she needed.

"Miss Luthor?"

The loan figure standing with her back to the glass wall separating the apartment from the balcony doesn't so much turn towards the nervously fidgeting super waiting out on her apartment balcony but throws herself into the separating distance to make a sobbed running jump into Kara's arms. Her arms lock unyielding around the surprised Kryptonian's neck as she cries against her shoulder.

"Why didn't you t-t-tell me?" Lena cries

"Tell you what, Miss Luthor?" Kara questions still wondering if she was either dreaming or she should attempt to untangle from the strong gripped Luthor attempting to merge with her if she'd just hold her tight enough.

"Dammit, Kara. It's too early to be so dammed formal." Lena snapped hugging onto the stunned super even tighter.

Rather than arguing Kara carries the much calmer Lena over to one of the lounge chairs the balcony offered. "I'm just going to get you some water, Lee Lee." Kara says at the upset mew Lena gives when Kara starts attempting to untangle from the CEO's grip. "I'll be right back." The Kryptonian promises

"I never asked how Alex's talk with Maggie went."

"When I know you'll know." Kara admits her eyes memorizing the blended colors of purples, pinks, and oranges of the sunrise. "I'm trying not to listen in. Give them some semblance of privacy." She confesses resting her chin over Lena's shoulder from behind as Lena herself nestles into the warmed circle of the super's arms.

"Stay with me?" Lena asks in a yawn mostly to keep from falling back to sleep right there on the balcony of her penthouse apartment.

"If you want…" Kara tentatively agrees

"You're staying here. We have a lot to talk about later and don't think you're getting out of it with some big catastrophe you need to fly away to help stop."

"Actually, J'onn gave me a few days off too when he kicked Alex out to go spend some time with Maggie. Says we've been working too much."

Lena's answer was lost in another wider yawn "Sounds like Jess." The sleepy Luthor agrees. "Now come back to bed. Too early for all this thinking."

"Are you always this adorable in the morning?" Kara teases gingerly sweeping the already dozing Luthor into her arms to carry her back both into the darkened apartment as well as back towards the vacated bed.

"love you Kara." Lena mumbles snuggling more against Kara herself than the comfy mattress the super had just set her down on.

"I love you too Lena." Kara confesses already climbing carefully under the covers with her tired best friend. Mostly because she didn't want to be rude and tug away from the tight grip Lena held against the front of her super suit.

Much later, really wall into the afternoon Lena would have sworn it had all been a dream if she hadn't woken to find Kara's arms wrapped tightly around her as the two hovered a few inches off the unmade bed.
