A brand new day came, and with it my first time being invited to the Salvatore's school headmaster's office since my first day here, which is why I was kind of bummed up about the conversation being let to the library.
"...You started a brown at a charity football game that risked exposing what we are really doing here."
It was funny seeing Rick being so assertive to his three daughters (Hope was totally adopted in all but name after the death of her parents) especially after hearing him scream while avoiding a fire-breathing dragon in the woods last night.
"You weren't mad last night." His blond daughter said.
"I was mad last night." He answered "my undying love for my daughters just happened to trump my rage. I volunteered everyone in the game so stop complaining. You are lucky it's just community service and not actual jail time."
"Can I at least offer a rebuttal in my defense if it please the court?" Lizzie said making me giggle, to which only Hope looked in my way as my presence was covered by my curse.
"First of all, I was provoked, my response was totally prepositional considering the levels of abuse that I was forced to endure." By now I was laughing hard, with Hope looking at me annoyed. "And secondly... if anyone should take the blame it's Josie." At this point I couldn't stop myself, I was tearing up as I was laughing, and even Hope was chuckling from that.
By the time I managed to stop laughing I heard Rick say "...end of debate."
"I wasn't even at the game, why am I being punished?"
"You know what you did."
"Tonny is the one who cast the spell," she said, pointing at me "what about him?"
"Tonny? Whose that?" Rick asked, and I siphoner my curse to be noticed again.
"Easton, right. This curse is driving me mad."
"Wait, who is that?" Lizzie asked.
"I'm Easton, and you are Lizzie and Josie, I know all about you."
"You know all about us?" Josie asked.
"That's right, I'm a prophet, I sees the past and future constantly, for example, I saw the other day your first kiss with Penelope."
"No you didn't!" Lizzie said
"It was here, in the library. You sat on that table studying you two and Lizzie, when Lizzie went to the restroom, Penelope turned her head toward you, said something in your ear, and then when you turned in shock your lips touched."
Both of the daughters of the headmaster's had their jaw open in shock.
"Don't listen to him," Hope said rolling her eyes "tell them the truth." She told me.
"Sure, Princess."
"I told you not to call me that!"
"I'm actually the library's artificial spirit who was made by the tribrid princess aunt, if you want help with homework you can come to me as I know every book in here."
"I'm giving you last chance." Hope said before catching my ear and twisting it.
"Ok, ok, Jesus." I said as she let go of my ear. "I'm Easton Magus, a cursed to be unnoticed by anyone except Hope Mikaelson witch, a handsome nerd who might have finished regular high school classes at the age of 8 and magical classes at 12 and stayed in here for another 6 years to finish reading the library, a man who spent his last 12 years on the table over there and occasionally looked outside of a book and saw scandals like Josie's first kiss, and Hope's best friend, at your service."
It took the four of them a moment to get all of the information dump processed before Hope said with a smirk "Did you practice the introduction before hand?"
"Well, after yesterday when Rick said you never mentioned me, while feeling kind of insulted I decided to let me introduce my self worth as much information as possible to your other friends."
"You know I did mention you," she said, stumping my foot as hard as she can without using her super strength. "it's your stupid curse that stopped him from processing my talks about you."
"Ok, we need some explanations." Lizzie said "You are cursed to be Hope's best friend? Why on earth did we never noticed you before if you were here for the last 12 years?"
Josie butted in "And is your family name really Magus?"
"We don't have time for that right now, you three need to go to the bus, and I need to talk with Tonny alone."
The twins left before Hope said "seriously?"
"What part of what I said need translating?"
"I want to help you in research."
"Dorian has a master's degree in library science and Easton knows the library better then anyone else, I think the adults have it covered."
"That's not fair." Hope said "You only use the adult card when you don't need something, and Easton is only 18."
"You were going to kill a kid!" Rick said in a whisper shout. "Right now I can't trust you to be a grown up and I'm spinning with all that happened last night, so I need you to be a kid, go do your punishment, and keep a dragon size secret today until I get some answers, understood?"
Hope just left, leaving me and Rick in the library alone.
"So, we have much to talk about."
"We need to decide what to do with you." Rick said.
"Oh, don't worry about me, I'm fine with the current situation."
"Well I'm not." Rick said rubbing his eyes. "Look Tonny, it's not healthy to be isolated so much, you need friends."
"I have Hope." I said
"And that's great, from what I've seen you are a great influence on her both in the way of morals, by not letting her use black magic, and with interactions, as I haven't seen her so free with expressing her emotions other than anger since the death of her parents as much as I've seen her do so with you, but it's not enough."
"Why not? You just said I'm a good friend, why isn't it enough?"
"Because you're in love with her!" Rick said
"What's that got to do with anything? It's not like I'm gonna act on it."
"And what happens if she breaks your heart by finding someone else? You have no emotional connections with anyone but her, you can disappear and no one will notice except for her, that's not healthy, don't you see?"
And I did see.
I saw myself getting immortality like I planned, saw losing Hope and my only connection to the world, saw myself living alone learning magic as slowly, without anyone to care about I start losing my sanity, and then become the most dangerous being in the world.
"I understand." I said "What do you suggest?"
"You are too knowledgeable to be a student here, not to mention looks like a 21 years old, how about you become a teacher assistant and help us, at least until either the monsters situation is over and we find a way to remove the curse on you?"
"Counter offer, I become an alchemy teacher for young magic users who excel in science."
"Sure, a class where they see how regular subjects may help them in magic might do some good here. Now let's talk about the knife."
"So you didn't only learn alchemy during your time as a ghost in the school, but also created your own Grimory that encompass the entire school library, is organized by subject, and can translate the books to modern day English?"
"Don't forget how it can change size to for my pocket and open on a subject by demand."
"If You were a woman Dorian would have proposed already, actually, he might still do it."
"With how you told me half an hour ago about my need to connect with people I might just accept."
We both laughed for a while.
"So, what does it say about the knife? My 4th century Gaelic is rusty." Rick said
"You know, the usual. The knife had the power to destroy the world yada yada yada." I told him
"Can't we just destroy it then?" He proposed
"We can try, but those kind of things are usually indestructible." I said.
Hope's POV
"So what did you do?" Lizzie's annoying voice came from behind me as I tried to calm myself. "My dad never gets mad at you, you are the freaking prodigal daughter. Must have been juicy."
"Sorry, no time for girl talk public service awaits."
"Will you at least explain whose that hot man Easton?"
"Tony introduced himself to you two already."
The man in charge gave options but my mind was stuck on one point, why does Lizzie remember Tonny? What did he and Rick talked about for so long that he kept his curse at bay?
"I don't do trash." I hear Lizzie say and immediately decide to do just that.
"I love trash, as of this moment."
"Good, it suits you."
She would like to say she listened when the twins had their little spat before Josie joined her on trash duty, but her mind kept returning to the dragon and Easton.
The death spell isn't supposed to cause pain, so why did it cause it to Tonny?
"Hey, are you ok?" Josie said, shaking her out of her thoughts.
"Yes sure."
"So... whose Easton?"
"Why do you ask me, he introduced himself already."
"Yeah, like in five sentences, each more confusing then the other."
"Well, what do you want to know?"
"What is that curse he talked about?"
"It's basically making most people unable to notice him unless he talks to them and once he is out of their thoughts they forget him."
"That's terrible! Wait, then how come I remember him?"
"He learned how to actively shut the curse with a spell as long as he focus on it." She wouldn't break his trust by telling anyone how he is able to siphon the curse enough to make it deactivate for a while.
"Okay, what about being best friends with him? When that happened?"
"Well, it all started with a request for a chair." I then told her about how we became best friends.
"Okay, now for the biggest question, are you together?"
I couldn't help but laughing. "Tony and me? No he's like my big brother."
"Yes, your tall, smart, funny and handsome big brother who seemed willing to help you in everything." She said
"You can go for him." I said with a smile, I could see Tony and Josie together.
"Dating a person I forget all the time? Only if it's my ex, Satan incarnated, so I can gain the ability to forget her entirely."
"Too bad, he is a really good guy."
"Yes, well, I kind of have a crush on someone new, but I really shouldn't have, Lizzie has dibs."
"Dibs? On Raphael? She always calls dibs, when is gonna be your turn?"
"It is what it is."
"It still doesn't make it right."
There was an awkward silence, and I felt that she needed me to share something before she explained why it's right, so I decided to tell the parts of yesterday that I'm allowed.
"I wanted to use black magic on Landon, Tony stopped me, that's why I'm being punished. And Landon and Raphael took off together, Landon told me he didn't know any he stole the knife, but then he lied about hiding it, so I don't know what to believe." A sigh escaped my lips. "He also wrote me a letter that was really... sweet."
"Lizzie is sensitive... our mom is going on those really long requirement missions recently, it's why she's extra testy, she just really misses her."
Well, now I feel a bit like a jerk.
"I know the feeling." Was all I said
"I remember how your mom used to come by the school, We all used to say how beautiful she was."
"She was."
"We really should have sent you flowers or something."
"You dad, your father sighed your name, it was obvious."
"Okay, we definitely deserved a little poking."
"You know, while losing my parents is the worst memory I have, the day after that, crying on Tony's shoulders with him telling me he will be there for me for as long as I need him is one of the best."
"Seriously? And you only consider him an older brother? Your future boyfriend has a lot of expectations on him already."
"I don't think after Landon there will be anyone any time soon."
"Ah, I wonder where the boys are right now."
Maybe a little peak to check if they are alright.
"There is this spell my aunt Freya taught me..."
Easton's POV
"So it is indestructible." Rick said as we watched the knife in a box of acid with no harm to it.
"Told you so." I said smugly "but seriously, if it didn't feel that way I wouldn't let you try it."
"Why not?" He asked with a frown
"The thing about magical artifacts and prophecies about them is that-" knocking on the door interrupted their conversation.
"Not a god time." Rick yelled at the door when Emma Tig, the guidance counselor came in.
"When I was bought on I was told counseling is mandatory to anyone in this school, by You."
"We are busy." He said back gesturing to me.
"Oh yes, and you are?" She asked, looking at me
I looked at Rick, "Can I?"
"You had to ask him, didn't you?" Rick said looking accusingly at her.
"I'm the cursed witch off anonymity, the child genius of the Salvatore school who grew up, the true love of Dorian according to Rick here, slayer of mystical creatures and the new alchemy teacher of the school, Easton Magus."
"The true love of Dorian, is it?"
"If you see the book he made you will also think so." Rick answered.
"Well, as much as I would love to get to know you, and we would have a counseling at some other point of time, right now it's Rick's turn." She looked at Rick with a smile.
"We really can't right now, so I would have to raincheck therapy."
"Is that the knife the dragon was chasing?" She asked, pointing at the knife, to which Rick raised an eyebrow.
"Dorian never miss a meeting."
"I like her." I said.
"Thank you, I loved your introduction of yourself."
"And you just became my favorite faculty member."
"Well, shortly, this knife has the power to destroy the world." Rick said.
"So why not destroy it?"
"Indestructible." I answered "But as I was about to say before the interruption, with artifacts and prophecies like those, it's better this way."
"How come?" Emma asked "I would prefer a weapon stirring enough to destroy the world destroyed."
"But if I'm correct, this knife isn't a weapon." Their looks of confusion on their face made me elaborate "The thing about artifacts is, their magic always leave a trace, right?"
Emma nodded.
"A daylight ring has a worm and cold feeling intertwined, a book of dark magic has a slimy invasive feeling and so on."
She understood my meaning almost immediately.
"The knife's magical properties are like a lighthouse."
"Precisely, it is more likely that the way this knife disaster is by summoning the dragon."
"So are we safe?" Rick
"Dig deeper toward that feeling of the knife." I told Emma.
"It feels like...a key?"
"Yes." I said gravely "it's a key to a prison, and that dragon is working for whoever is locked in it."
"Well, with all that on your hands I feel you might need a little counseling."
"When I say I'm fine, I'm-"
"A jerk." Lizzie interrupted the conversation with her clothes filled with spilled liquid. "You are a total jerk."
"What happened to you? Her father asked as he stood up.
"A neanderthal from mystic falls high assaulted me with a milkshake. This stupid girl Daina was..." she started ranting and I kind of zoned out trying to remember what monster is next to attack, it was 19 years since I saw the show in another life, and honestly I couldn't remember much except the dragon, Malivor and the Necromancer, I made sure to study many of the myths in this world so I would be prepared to whichever monster was coming, but it would have helped knowing what it was.
The door slamming pulled me out of my musing.
"What did I miss?" I asked. "Was she attacked by a monster?"
"What? No! why would you say that? You think there are more monsters coming?" Rick asked.
"There might be." I said "If whatever this key lock up could control a dragon there might be a chance for it to control other things."
""Shit."" Rick and Emma said at the same time.
"Well, I think I'm gonna give you two some time alone for the counseling you kept mentioning, if you need me I'm gonna be at my desk in the library."
"Why do you even sit in the library? You don't need the books."
"It's fun messing with people who don't know you're there." I said as I exit the room.
It wasn't even 20 minutes later when a scream was heard from afar, running as fast as I can, I saw Rick, Emma and a little boy standing on top of Rick's blond daughter.
"Why isn't she moving?" Rick asked
"The statue hurt her." The young boy said, and I remembered the monster- a gargoyle, the black cuts on her body confirmed the thought, as I remembered studying that the gargoyle has paralyzing claws.
"Do you know how to kill a gargoyle?" Rick asked me after taking me to the side.
"Well, its a stone monster the death spell wouldn't work, and I don't remember what the books said...give me some time to check."
"I will, I will also ask Damian to do the same."
Taking out my book and asking for gargoyle information, it showed that this creatures is a defender of humanity against the supernatural, and you need to smash him to pieces to destroy him.
"Do you have anything?" Rick asked after returning from his phone call
"We need to smash him, and as you are human, you are the only one who won't get attacked by him." I said
"That's great, then you and Emma stay and protect the kids while I go pick an axe." Rick said with enthusiasm only a father whose daughter was attacked could master.
"Hell no!" I said, stopping him "We need to do it together, you distract him while I use a spell that will shatter him."
"Do you have enough power to do so alone?"
"Usually, no. A supernatural being, especially one who fights against other supernatural beings should have resistance against magic, but I still have some of the dragon's energy."
"You haven't been cleansed from the black magic?" He said with an accusing look.
"No, my cleansing will happen in the next full moon." I answered, lying through my teeth.
"Okay then, let's go hunt us a gargoyle." Rick said, taking an axe from the wall.
After making sure all the kids were in one room with Emma, both Rick and me went searching for the gargoyle, something that wasn't hard, as it seemed to walk with as much noise as possible.
The moment he saw us, he started running toward us.
"I will have to let go of my curse, so you will have to remember to keep him busy!" I said, as I took a step back and started chanting while using as much energy as I had in me.
One of the main reasons witches almost always ate in covens are the problem of magical power.
There are some that has too little, making them unable to do the spells they want when they want, and joining a group lets them add the needed energy.
The other part are those that have too much, and need people to share the burden of the power when needed for big spells.
As a werewolf, I have stronger body then most witches, which make me not need help with most spells.
This one is not one of them.
The pain of using the energy I got last night from the dragon, energy that my body has yet to become accustomed to, it was close to the level of pain I feel every time I transform.
Which is why I could still continue.
10 seconds.
That's how long it took for the gargoyle to shatter in an explosion, making me able to stop the spell and fall to the floor as exhaustion almost took me.
"Rick! We did it!" I said, making sure he notice me before the darkness that threatened to consume me succeeded.
"Tony!" I heard, and that was it.
Hope's POV
"Lizzie?" Josie asked as she walked in with me on her toes.
"I will check the library." I said, yet before I could even move an explosion was heard from down the hallway, making both of us run toward it only to see Rick standing in the middle of rocks all over the place and someone laying near him, someone she recognized immediately.
"Tony!" I said running towards him
"What happened?" I asked after checking he's alive.
"We fought a gargoyle and he destroyed it." Rick said
"He casted a spell to shutter the gargoyle in his own?" I was shocked, Tony didn't have that kind of power, and even if he did...
"Yes, he still had the magic from the dragon last time."
"Dragon?" Josie asked, making me remember she didn't know about that, but I had a more concerning issue.
"He used so much energy in his own?" I asked, before casting a spell to check Tony's vitals as this much energy could kill regular witches, even me with my enhanced physiology would have been in a world of pain without someone taking the burden. Luckily, he was fine, though he would have his entire body ache for the next few days.
Lifting him as I was about to take him to the infirmary, I said to Rick "Tell everyone everything, otherwise it's gonna tear us all apart." Leaving Rick and Josie on their own to talk.
Alaric's POV
' there is no better way to make sure children has a god night sleep then tell dramatic news to the children' Alaric thought sarcastically as he started talking.
"If you would asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the supernatural world is made from the species that go to this school, I can no longer tell you that as three days ago we were attacked by a dragon, and today our campus was terrorized by a gargoyle coming back to life. Some of us were forced to fight, we won, this time. They are down to here by a knife that went missing this week and to get it they would do everything in their power to succeed. In their mind we are the villains because we won't give them what they want, with the reason for their wish is to free someone as that knife is the key to its prison." I signed "I can't say there won't be more attacks, that's why I'm telling you this, to warn you, to ask you to look out for each other, to do what's best for one another, because we are more then just a school, we are family! And we will stand together, we will fight together, and we will win or lose this battle together no matter what happens next!" A smile appeared on my face as Tony walked toward me, even as he seemed full of pain.
"At that note, let me bring the new faculty member and the new alchemy teacher- Easton Magus."
"Thanks Rick." He said, as he slowly sat on the stairs. "I'm sorry to meet you like that, but gargoyles apparently are one tough some of a bitch, who knew?" Laughter was spread throughout the room.
"Inducing myself-" 'Not again' I thought as a wry smile appeared on my face.
"I'm Easton Magus, 18 years old, finished this vary school when I was 12, with me being in Magical classes the only reason it wasn't at age 8, moon of you can remember me because I have been cursed, as for the class- you won't learn to make a philosophers stone, but making Diamonds will be part of the class. I will only except those whose average science grades are above 85, and I don't mind werewolves and vampires joining it. I look forward to see you all."
'I don't know what's going to happen next, but I'm happy Tony will be here to help."
