While the school had another assembly in the morning, I worked on my curse.
In the years since I gained the ability to siphon from it, I have managed to find a certain balance is needed for how much the curse needs to be fed to prevent it from collapsing onto itself with the only problem is that to shut it down without destroying it takes two hours of siphoning each morning and to reactive it will take 30 minutes, time that I was unwilling to waste till now.
Now I'm about to be a teacher, and more importantly a monster Hunter, and I can't keep having people forget about me, which is why I'm gonna start doing it.
Finishing my daily siphoning, I came out of my room and walked towards the stairs when I happen to hear from one of the rooms a conversation.
"You know the drill." A voice I recognized as Raphael's said.
"Yeah, keep my heads down, make my self useful and don't pick fights." Landon's voice said in return.
"Oy, Raphael." I said making him look at me "glad you're back."
"Hey Tony, what's up?"
"You weren't here last night, it's mr Magus now, I'm the new alchemy teacher!"
"Really? Congratulations."
"Yeah, but call me Tony, I'm just messing with you."
"Landon," Rick's voice came from behind me "I think we could use you today." Landon waved a goodbye to Raphael and then left the room.
"So, what I actually wanted to talk to you about is that you should be careful today."
"Yeah? And why's that?" Raphael asked, becoming defensive.
"Well, as you know for a long time I was mostly invisible to some people, and that meant I had the unique ability to be able to watch the more barbaric parts of the school, and the werewolves has a initiation process to any new members of the pack. The process is having you tell who you killed and why before submitting to the alpha, and if you don't they beat you up and then make do it."
"What am I supposed to do with this information?" He became agitated.
"You can tell them the story and become part of them, or you can challenge the current alpha for the job."
"Isn't there a third option?"
"You can make sure you are never alone, that way they can't corner you."
"Well... thanks." He said finally
"Your welcome. And you should join my alchemy class, you might enjoy them."
With that I left.
With my class not starting until the afternoon, I decided to use the time to go back to the woods where we met the dragon and dig her out as she's a great specimen to study.
Taking the Jeep, I went on the road, only to get in my way over a call from Rick.
"Tony, where are you?"
"Took a small trip, will come back in time for my first class."
"Well, one of the missing girls isn't missing anymore."
"That's great, right?"
"She's dead."
"You really need to talk less ambiguously, is it a new monster?"
"No, it's a vampire."
"Well, shit." Was all I said
"Yeah, I'm actually calling to ask if you heard anything in the library."
"No, I didn't, but you should ask one of the students, maybe one of those you sent for the mission today."
"I will, thanks. Anyways, where did you go?"
"I went to see if I can learn anything about the monsters from the dragon's corpse."
"You think there would be something to point us towards the mastermind?"
"There could be."
"Good thinking, update me if you find anything."
"Sure will."
Finishing the phone call I continued my drive.
Reaching to where the dragon was buried, I used a quick spell to pay the earth till I saw the corpse, digging it out the little there was left before having a human size corpse of a dragon.
Taking out my Grimory, I chanted the scanning information spell which made all the information it got from the corpse.
The first thing it got is that the dragon is, in fact, a shapeshifter.
The werewolf shifting is based on the fact that each human has twice of every kind of DNA stands, the activation of the gene by murderer will transform one of them into a wolf, and every time full moon energy is being pushed into the cores of the cells the DNA stands switch while sucking in more energy from the moon to commence the change.
The dragon transformation works in the same way, only its original form is of a fire-breathing, winged, giant lizard, it is only when it internalize his magic done to his DNA that its able to strengthen his human DNA enough to cause him to have a human body.
Those two supernatural creatures are so similar that I couldn't help but wonder if that's how the hallow created the werewolf curse, could it be that it just copied an already living being?
As I was deep in thought, I almost didn't notice my cellphone rings.
"I still have two more hours till my class Rick."
"It's not a vampire, it's a giant spider!"
"An Arachne?!"
"You are familiar?"
"Yes, it's Greek mythology 101."
"The kids went to confront it."
"Which kids?"
"Lizzie, Landon, MG and Hope." I bit my lower lip at hearing Hope was facing it, but I knew it wasn't a really big deal.
"They will be fine."
"How can you say it?"
"Arachne isn't that powerful, as long as they aren't trapped in unprepared a vampire and two witches could deal with it, not to mention Hope can transform into a wolf."
"I hope you are right." He said hanging up.
"I hope so too." I said to my self, deciding to take the corpse back with me for more research.
I reached school with 15 minutes to class, which was just enough to bring the dragon corpse to my room, take a quick shower and maybe grub something to eat, unfortunately for me, Rick was in the way to my room.
"Tony! What are you doing with a levitated corpse where children can see you?!"
"Oh shit, sorry, I'm not used to being seen."
"Well, get it to your room before you traumatize one of the kids and meet me in the office, I need to talk with both you and Emma about how to punish the kids.
"No." I said " I'm going to take a shower, grab an apple and go to class, I will meet you at 9:30 tonight."
"Fine, but I want to know what you learned from the dragon corpse."
"Tonight Rick." I said, and put the corpse on the floor of my room,
I managed to barely track class on time with an apple in my mouth, only to see it had 5 witches, a vampire and a tribrid in it.
"Small class." I said "great!" From their faces I could guess they didn't expect this to be my reaction to the size of the class.
"Oh, don't worry, this class is for students who want more then just learn spells or to control their power, which means that the less there are the more dedicated I can be for each student.
Now, before we start this class I want you to each tell me your name, species, and why you chose to take this class. I will go first.
I'm Easton Magus, a witch, and I started to learn alchemy because I wanted to reinvent modern magic.
Now you Princess." I said, winking at Hope.
"I'm Hope Mikaelson, a tribrid, and I came to this class both to be a moral support to my best friend and to show him he is not as smart as he likes to present himself."
"A great, if futile cause indeed." I said with a smirk. "Now you blonde." I pointed at Lizzie.
"Lizzie Saltzman, a witch, and to learn how to make myself diamond earrings."
"A woman who knows what she wants, great! How about you twinsy?"
"Josie Saltzman, also a witch, it sounds interesting."
"Ah, the pursue of knowledge! A noble cause! How about we spice it up with someone who looks to me like a true believer in the impossible. Milton, right?"
"MG, actually, a vampire, and I wanted to learn magic since I found out it's real, so if you say vampires can do alchemy, I'm in!"
"I like you man!" How about as the last man in class you would be next?" I looked at a boy who was a little overweight.
"I'm Wade, just Wade. A witch, and I would like to find a magical practice in which I have talent in."
"A man searching for his calling, tight." I said, giving a fist for a fist bump which he shyly returned "How about the woman I only heard being called 'She who must not be named' next."
"Penelope Park, a witch, and alchemy sounds cool."
"Don't know why they call you that, you seem to just be a person who understands some truths. Last but not least, my lady." I said, doing a little bow to my last student.
"Alyssa Chang, a witch, and I want to learn every kind of magic."
"Another knowledge pursuer, that's awesome. Now that we are over introductions, let's start-" a knocking interrupted me "Yes?"
"I'm sorry, I'm late, couldn't find the right class." It was Raphael
"It's your first day so that's fine, but don't do it again, we will be dealing with some volatile subjects, so if you are late you don't come in."
"Yes sorry." He said, coming in.
"Just say your name, species, and why you decided to join the class."
He seemed embarrassed by it "Raphael, werewolf, and I wanted to learn how to use my ability to build instead of just destroy."
"Great answer, and now we have every species who learn in this school at our class so we can begin." I said "when you think alchemy, you are probably thinking a combination of magic and chemistry, but while that's part of it, it's not all. Alchemy, at its base, is using magic to evolve science to a whole new level, and learn science to let you use magic on a scale you never thought possible, no matter if you're a witch, a werewolf, or a vampire, you have magic in you, and thus are able to learn this art."
"I'm not sure punishing them is the right cause of action." Emma said
"They broke the rules!" Rick said
"We know that, but does it really matter?" I Answered tiredly
"What do you mean by that?" He demanded.
"Let's be honest here Rick. Out of the 7 students who broke the rules today we have two who were there by accident, one whose a dragon slaying tribrid and one who isn't really a student here.
The rest three were your daughter and MG who you can't punish without looking like a hypocrite for not punishing and a Kaleb, who you punished by throwing to the dungeons, sorry, werewolf transformation cellars, something I'm not sure I agree with."
"What do you mean not agree with? He fed on humans! We don't agree with those sort of things!" Rick said righteously.
"I agree, he should be the only one punished." Emma said
"Rick, Emma, forcing them to feed on animal blood isn't going to do them any good. They became weaker than any other vampires, and preventing them from really get accustomed to the vampiric life. If I remember correctly, the only vampire who really spent years drinking animal blood was one of Rick's friends- Stefan Salvatore, and he was a ripper who needed to learn how to drink human blood without feeling guilty about it before his ripper part was under control, this school is suppose to prepare them to their immortal life, what do you think would happen first, them dying by the hand of a human blood drinker, or them starting to gorge on human blood because they weren't taught control?"
"When You say it like that..." Emma said
"I'm starting to hate it when you make sense." Was all he said as a comeback.
"You just need to slowly teach them methods of blood drinking, like never from the neck, an arm is both cleaner and easy to hide, and morality of drinking blood, understanding that just because they are stronger doesn't mean they are better, that they were also human once, and it's better that they learn it while having families alive."
"And who will teach that?"
"Ideally? A vampire like Caroline, someone who has been in their position and drank both animal blood and human, till then? Either Emma, who can make people relate to other people emotionally or maybe me, I can give a few classes on morality and 'how not to be idiotic vampire 101'."
Both of them laughed at that.
"That sounds like a great class to add, do you have any suggestions about the other two species?"
"Yes actually, witches need to learn attack spells from earth magic if you don't want them learning black magic."
"I already had this argument with him already," Emma said "he thinks they only need defensive methods."
"Giving attack methods to hormonal teenage students will only cause someone to die."
"Sure, because them controlling fire isn't dangerous." I said rolling my eyes.
"But seriously Rick, what would happen when they start experimenting on magic on their own to create attack methods? We all know black magic is easier to find out by mistake, and by letting them learn safe attacking methods would they not try to learn the mind twisting ones on their own."
"Fine," Rick said sighing, "either way, with monsters coming I would like them to have ways to attack them."
"You should search for a teacher with good magical combat experience." Emma said "Maybe ask Bonny to do it in the meanwhile."
"Bonny already told me she will never teach in a school when I opened it, I will find someone else. What about werewolves?"
"That was actually something I wanted to discuss with you." I said and made the most serious face I could master "I believe I'm close to finding a cure to being a werewolf."
His face became extremely serious.
"Tell me everything."
