Hello, it's been a while, but here is the translation of a Buddie of mine !
Hope you'll like it !
L.A.!
"Dad, when is he coming, Buck ?"
"Soon, buddy."
Eddie had to go to work. Without Buck who was off, and had agreed to watch Christopher. These two loved spending time together.
"Dad ?"
"Yes, my son ?"
"When are you going to leave Miss Flores ?"
Eddie sighed, and went to sit on the edge of his son's bed. The young boy was sitting there, a book on his lap.
"I will do it tomorrow, I promise." he says. "I'm sorry to have brought her into our lives. I thought you needed a mom."
"We already have Buck." said Christopher. "And I already have a mom. She is dead, but she will always be my mom."
"You're right, and I'm sorry."
"You already said it." smiled Chris.
The doorbell rang.
"It must be Buck !"
"He would have used his key." Eddie said. "I'll go see who it is, and you keep reading. Or do you want to go and wait for him in front of the TV ?"
"In front of the TV." decided the boy. "Anyway, Buck is going to take me to the park later."
"It's true." smiled Eddie.
The doorbell rang again, and insistently. Who the hell could that be ? He waited until Christopher was sitting on the couch, remote control in hand, to open the door.
"Ana ?"
All smiling, Ana Flores entered without waiting for permission, and kissed Eddie on the corner of the lips. Surprised to find her on his doorstep at seven-thirty in the morning, Eddie came to his senses and closed the door.
"What are you doing here ?" he asked. "We weren't supposed to see each other until tomorrow, and I have to go to work."
"I know, but I thought it would be a good idea if I kept Christopher." she said smiling. "And I brought a lot of exercises that could help him progress."
"Uh, Ana, no. It's not a good idea, and Buck is already on his way to watch Chris." Eddie said. "So you can go home. »
"Don't talk nonsense. You can tell Buck not to bother, I'm sure he has other things to do." Ana said.
She put her bag on the table, and went to say hello to Christopher. The boy showed perfect indifference, which did not escape his father.
"It's a bit early to stay in front of the TV." Ana told Eddie.
"It's Saturday, and he has my permission." replied the latter. "And then Buck is going to take him to the park so…"
His phone beeped. He had just received a message from Buck. Stuck in traffic jams. I have at least twenty minutes. Brilliant, that was all he needed. He might end up late if he didn't leave right away. He answered Buck. Ana is here, she arrived unexpectedly, but I promise she will leave as soon as you arrive. Buck's response was quick. Ok. Simple, but confusing. Usually he added a joke or an emoji. There, nothing. Eddie was aware that his best friend didn't like his girlfriend too much, and he also knew that she reciprocated, even if she pretended when Eddie was around. It was one of the reasons he was planning on breaking up. Well, not now since he had to go to work. Bobby would understand, but Ana was there then, might as well take advantage of it. Even if this idea did not really enchant him. The sooner he'll break up with her, the sooner he would return to a normal life. Ignoring Ana, who had taken out her teacher's stuff on the table – not that that was necessary – he went to sit next to Christopher and said to him:
"Buck is going to be late, but he's on his way. Ana will stay only as long as he arrives. Then you'll go to the park together, and you'll take lots of pictures that you'll show me tonight. Ok ?"
"Ok !" mumbled Christopher.
He wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of staying with Ana. Eddie kissed his forehead, got up from the couch, and motioned for Ana to follow him into the kitchen. She was smiling and reaching for a kiss once they were alone, but Eddie took a step back.
"Uh, Buck is coming but there's a traffic jam so keep an eye out for Christopher while he gets there, please." he asked gently. "But leave him alone, okay ? It's Saturday, so don't talk to him about extra exercises or homework. He's going to stay in front of the TV until Buck arrives. Promise me you'll leave him alone."
"Edmundo…" He bit the inside of his cheek. "…it's not good for him and…"
"And you are not his mother." he cut her off. "So stop trying to tell me what's good or bad for my son. Buck will come to take care of him, and they will spend part of the day at the park. And Christopher already did most of his homework yesterday, he'll finish the rest tomorrow. As for the two of us, we will see each other tomorrow as agreed."
So as not to arouse her suspicions about the reasons for their meeting the next morning, he kissed her on the cheek. He really didn't feel anything. But nothing at all. As he pulled away, he didn't show his relief at seeing her smile. She didn't notice anything. She hadn't expected him to end their relationship at all, but it had gone on for too long. Eddie couldn't lie to himself anymore. Although he didn't put any label on his sexuality, he had always forbidden himself to fully embrace his attraction to boys. Thank you mom and dad, and their conservative upbringing, and their constant need to want to put him down by telling him what was good for him. But that was all over, damn it.
"I have to go."
After a final hug to his son, Eddie took his things and left, with a knot in his stomach.
...
Ten minutes. Ten minutes he was stuck in his jeep. However, there was no accident. How annoying people could be early in the morning. He had risen very early this morning, to prepare a picnic in the park with Christopher. They had been planning this day for a week, when Eddie had agreed to work overtime. Why look for a babysitter or bother Abuela or Pepa, when Buck had nothing better to do ? And anyway, he loved taking care of Christopher. He was angry with himself for having answered only a simple ok, when Eddie had told him that Ana had dropped by unannounced and that she was going to watch Christopher until he arrived. He knew that his best friend, whom he was madly in love with, had planned to break up with the vice-principal, but knowing that she was there had made him lose his good mood. He was nothing special against Ana Flores, she is kind, beautiful and smart, but she was not for Eddie. She didn't make him happy. He had even changed, in contact with her, what he had ended up noticing and he was angry with himself, subsequently deciding to break up with her. He had made this decision a few days earlier, but they had been so busy with work that he hadn't found the time to break up properly. Tomorrow, Buck thought. Tomorrow it will be done, and maybe I could finally tell him how I feel. He had to force himself not to grab his cell phone and call the landline to talk to Christopher to make sure everything was fine with Ana. When the road was smooth again, Buck sighed in relief. More than five minutes.
...
Christopher had opened Disney+, and launched Coco, which he knew by heart. He wanted Buck there, not Ana. She was going to leave as soon as his Bucky arrived. He liked Miss Flores when she was his teacher, but he didn't like her with his daddy. Sometimes, when his father was not in the same room, she forbade him to do such and such a thing, or when she had dinner with them and cooked things that he did not like. He had been happy to see her again, at first, but the more time passed the more she was different. And she took up more space, even though she never stayed overnight. Fortunately ! He wanted his daddy to be with Buck. He wanted Buck to be his second daddy. Buck was the only one who knew what he liked to eat, what he liked to play. He even played with him. All the time. Miss Flores thought learning was fun, Christopher didn't. He didn't hate school, but when all his homework was done, he liked to stop thinking about it and play, draw or read.
"Christopher, you should come sit with me. I have plenty of games that will interest you."
"No thanks !" he politely declined.
He had seen that she had taken some sheets of paper out of her bag. Exercises, but he wasn't interested. He wanted to go to the park with Buck.
"Christopher !" Ana moved closer and sat down next to him. "Television is not good for you. There is so much better to do."
"Dad said I could watch until Buck comes." he replied without looking at her.
"You could start by talking to me differently."Ana said, picking up the remote.
She turned off the television. Christopher sighed.
"Show me some respect, will you ?" she told him. "I'm your dad's girlfriend, and soon I'll be your mom and…"
"My mom is dead !" cried Christopher. "You will never be her."
He got up and, with his uncertain, limping step, moved away from the sofa. He wanted to go back to his room to wait for Buck, but Ana grabbed him by the wrist.
"Christopher, you're going to listen to me, do you hear me ?" she got angry. "Come back and sit down !"
"You're hurting me." he sobbed, struggling.
"Christopher !" she scolded him as she stood up.
The little boy managed to get out of her grip, but he tipped backwards and, as he fell, landed hard against the arm of the couch before hitting the living room rug. But the damage was already done. Pain radiated throughout his body, and he burst into tears.
"Christopher !"
Panicked, Ana wanted to join him but he shouted a NO so loudly through his tears that she jumped and stepped back.
"Christopher ?"
None of them had heard the door open. Buck came running, and knelt beside Christopher.
"Hold still Chris, I'm calling 9-1-1 !" he said, picking up his phone.
"9-1-1, what's your emergency ? "
"Maddie, you need to send an ambulance to Eddie's. It's Christopher."
"Buck ?"
"Maddie, please."
"Yes, ok, sorry. Uh, the 136 is near. Alright, they're on their way. Can you describe to me what Christopher has ?"
"I just arrived. Ana was supposed to watch him by the time I got there." he said with an incendiary look towards the young woman. "But his arm hurts, I think."
"Okay, don't move him, help is coming."
"Okay, I'll call Eddie once I know which hospital we're taking him to."
He hung up when there was a knock on the door, which had been left open.
"LAFD !"
"This way !" Buck said.
Turning, he recognized Lena Bosko.
"Buckley ?"
"It's Christopher !" he says. "Take care of him, I'll get the papers for the hospital."
He got up and warned Ana in a scathing tone:
"You stay away from him."
She glared back at him, but he didn't give a damn. Christopher was hurt because of her, there was no way she was going near him. He hurried to Eddie's room, and took what was needed from the drawer of the nightstand, where the necessary papers were that the doctors would need. When he returned to the living room, Christopher had a splint on his left arm, and he was put on a stretcher.
"Where are you taking him ?" Buck asked.
"At Cedar-Sinai !" Captain Cooper said.
"Fine, I'll call Eddie from the ambulance." the young man said, before turning to Ana. "As for you, you pack your things and go home."
"Who do you think you are, talking to me like that ?" she protested. "I intend to accompany Christopher to the hospital and take care of him."
" NO !" cried Christopher. "It's your fault I fell. You turned off the TV when dad said I could watch it. You said you would be my mum but my mum died, and you grabbed me by the wrist, when I wanted to go to my room droom, and you hurt me. And I fell."
"Christopher…"
"That's enough !" snapped Captain Cooper. "Miss…"
"Flores !" Ana said. "I am Christopher's step-mother."
"Pfff !" Lena sniffled.
"Miss Flores, I'm going to ask you to pack your things and go home. The father of this child will come to you, I am sure, to talk with you about what happened to his son." Cooper said. "And I know you won't be allowed to stay with Christopher, since Buck is his contact, aside from Eddie. Now go home or I'll call the police."
Fuming, Ana packed up her things and stormed out of the apartment.
"What is Diaz still doing with her ?" Lena asked Buck.
"He was planning to break up with her tomorrow, but I feel that will change today." he says. "OK, let's go. Christopher is fragile enough like that to waste time. "
Once in the ambulance, Buck ends up calling Bobby instead of Eddie. Their Captain would have the good sense to smooth things over so Eddie wouldn't freak out. He wasn't sure how he'll react when he'll confronted Ana.
…
Station 118 !
In his office, Bobby had just hung up with Buck. Damn it ! Eddie was really going to freak out. He called the switchboard and told them that 118 was going to be put on stand-by for an hour, then he left his office. The team was downstairs, Eddie tending to the truck's gear, and Hen and Chimney checking the ambulance storage.
"Eddie !" Bobby approached the fireman, and waited for him to close the compartment where he had stored the axe. "There aren't good ways to talk to you about it, but first you have to promise me to stay calm."
"What are you talking about ?"
"Promise to stay calm !" Bobby insisted.
"Okay, I promise" Eddie said.
"It's… Christopher."
"What ?"
"I just got Buck. When he arrived at your house, Christopher was crying. I don't know the whole story, but he fell and hurt his arm." Bobby approached Eddie and put his hands on his shoulders, and locked eyes with him. "He's fine, he's in the hospital with Buck. I don't know the whole story, Buck said he'll tell you everything when we get to them. We will take the 4x4, no need to bring everyone." Then he turned to Chimney. "I put the station on stand-by for an hour, I'll let you manage in the meantime."
"Agreed !" said the medic.
Bobby ushered Eddie over to the red 4x4 in the house, and drove off.
Cedar-Sinai Hospital !
X-ray showed Christopher had a broken arm. Buck wanted to punch a wall, but held back. He didn't want to scare Christopher. Being listed as his second person to contact in case of an emergency, he was able to stay with him.
"Christopher ?"
Eddie arrived in the exam room, and when he saw the pediatrician putting a cast on Christopher's arm, his heart almost stopped.
"Hey, Eddie !" Buck rose from his chair by the bed and approached Eddie. "Look at me. Hey it's okay. He has a broken arm, but he's fine."
"A…A broken arm ?" repeated Eddie, heart in his mouth. "But, but how could this have happened ?"
"Uh..." Buck saw Bobby in the hallway. "Bobby, would you like to keep Christopher company ?"
"Yes of course !" he said as he entered the room. He went to sit next to the boy, who was no longer in pain thanks to the painkillers. "So, what color did you choose for your cast ?"
"Red, like the fire truck." Christopher replied with a smile.
"Oh, that's a great choice." Bobby said.
…
Outside the hospital, Buck recounted what Christopher had told him.
"Ana did this to him ?" Eddie growled.
"Yes, she turned off the TV for him, then she told him to show her respect, that she would soon be his mom and..."
"She's out of her mind !" Eddie gasped.
"Christopher wanted to go back to his room to wait for me, but she grabbed his wrist and, as he freed himself, he fell, and he hit the sofa." Buck finished.
"FUCK !" Eddie burst out, clutching his head. "I asked her to leave him alone. Why the fuck was she so stubborn ?"
"Eddie, calm down !" Buck cupped his face in his hands. "Christopher is fine. It could have been more serious, it could have been the head but it was only the arm. The doctor said he would make a full recovery. I promise you, he's fine, so breathe Eddie. Your son needs his father to be calm when he goes to see him."
Shaking from head to toe, Eddie forced himself to calm down and lowered his emotional barriers. For the first time in his life, he broke down and cried. Buck pulled him into his arms and let him cling to his shoulders like a lifeline. But Eddie didn't stay in tears for too long. He pulled away and took a deep breath. Buck wiped his cheeks with his thumbs.
"Eddie..."
But what happened froze him. Eddie had just put his mouth on Buck's. A deep, spontaneous kiss, but one that ended too quickly for Buck's liking.
"I…I'm sorry…" Eddie apologized. "I… "
"No, it's fine." Buck assured. "I want to too, but you haven't broken up with Ana, and your son is getting a cast so..."
"Yes, yes you are right. This is not the right time." Eddie said. "Okay, we'll talk tonight, when I get home."
"Great !" Buck said. "I will take good care of Christopher."
"I know, you always do." Eddie said, his face softening. "And I'm sorry, it took so long to realize that everything I needed was in front of me. You."
"How about saving your declaration of love for later ?" Buck asked. "Not in front of the hospital."
"Yes, good idea !"
They laughed together, then, hand in hand, they went back to see Christopher, who had his left arm plastered and red in color.
"Finally !" cried Christopher, seeing his father and his Bucky holding hands. "Buck is going to be my other daddy now."
"Um yes." Eddie said, going to take Bobby's place next to his son. "I should never have left you alone with her."
"It's not your fault." said Christopher. "But I don't want to… see her anymore."
"Don't worry about that, we won't see her again." Eddie promised. "Buck will take you home until I get home from work."
"I even called for backup." Buck said.
And at the same time, Carla came through the door.
"Carla !" cried Christopher happily.
"Oh my darling !" The carer walked around the bed and kissed Christopher on the forehead. "Look what state you are in." Then she looked at Eddie. "If I get my hands on that woman, I'll..."
"I'll take care of her." Eddie assured. "Uh, I have to tell the school and…"
"We will take care of it." Buck reassured him. "The principal knows us well, Carla and I, and I am one of the people to contact at school, if ever Chris has a problem. We will talk to the doctor to get all the instructions and send them to the director by email."
"We take care of everything." Carla said. "You go back to work and take care of that woman before I get my hands on her."
Christopher chuckled. Eddie kissed his son on the forehead, promised to bring him some ice cream when he got home, then, before leaving, kissed Buck on the edge of the lips.
"Well, a lot has happened." Carla laughed.
Eddie blushed. He left the room with Bobby, who didn't hide his smile.
Ten minutes back at the station, Eddie had told Hen and Chimney everything over coffee.
"I hope you're going to file a complaint ?" said Hen.
" Uh no. It would mean that I would have to see her again after the breakup, that I would have to confront her, when all I want is that she no longer comes near me, or Christopher, and not Buck. . She would be able to take it out on him."
"When are you going to talk to her ?" Chimney asked.
"After work." Eddie said.
"Or you could do it now." Bobby said, near the railing. "She's here."
"What ?" Eddie said, standing up.
Approaching the railing, he saw Ana looking around for him.
"Stay calm, Eddie." Bobby advised him.
"I make no promises." he grumbled.
Descending the stairs, Eddie went to meet his future ex-girlfriend. He knew that Hen, Bobby and Chimney were following him and would keep their distance, but would not hesitate to intervene just in case. No, Eddie would never raise his hand to a woman, even if he was angry.
"Edmundo…" she smiled as she saw him approach her.
"You have a lot of nerve coming here after what you did." Eddie said venomously.
"I…I wanted to hear from Christopher uh…" she said, having quickly become disillusioned by the firefighter's tone of voice. "How… how is he ?"
"what do you think ?" he spat. "He has a broken arm, and it's your fault."
"I don't know what Buck told you, but I didn't push Christopher." she tried to defend herself.
"I asked you to leave my son, mine, not yours, alone." Eddie said, feeling the anger welling up inside him but he did his best to channel it. "Why did you tell Christopher that you were going to be his mother ?"
"Edmund..."
"EDDIE !" he shouted, startling everyone. "My name is Eddie. How many times am I gonna have to tell you ? What made you think you would become Christopher's mother ? Hmm ? We haven't spent a single night together since we've been together."
"And whose fault is it ?" Ana replied, furious in return. "I'm ready to go further with you, but you hardly really kiss me, touch me. And Christopher disrespecting me and…"
"He shouldn't have yes, but you shouldn't have insisted so much this morning either. You are not his mother." he snapped. "I am his father, and I am the one who decides."
"Christopher needs a second parent and…"
"He has a second parent." Eddie cut her off. "And it's not you, and it never will be. I was planning to break up with you tomorrow, chatting quietly, and explaining to you why I wanted to break up, but you decided to do as you please and go against what I told you. He should be at the park with Buck, playing and eating Buck's packed picnic, not spending the day and the weeks to come with a broken arm."
"Buck, Buck, Buck !" Ana got angry. "You only have his name in your mouth. I'm tired of always being in the background. And Buck is…"
"Important for me. He is my family." Eddie burst out. "He is the person I trust the most with Christopher. What just happened proves to me that I made a mistake in going out with you. I wasn't happy with you, but I did it for Christopher, instead of listening my heart. I never want to see you again."
"Eddie, this is just an unfortunate incident, we can be happy." she insisted. "All you have to do is distance yourself from Buck, and we can be a family."
"Are you crazy ?"
Back, Chimney choked on his saliva. Hen bit back a laugh and Bobby puffed out his cheeks. He who thought that the situation could not get worse, Ana Flores had just proved him the opposite.
"Are you asking me to choose between you and Buck ?" He sneered. "But the choice is made, and I choose Buck. I would always choose Buck, because I love him, because I trust him with my life and with our son, and because whatever I do, whatever I say, he will always be there for Chris and I. And he will never, ever put him in danger."
"And the tsunami, then ?"
Ana regretted her words as soon as they left her mouth. Eddie's face fell.
"Oh fuck !" Hen breathed.
"You… I'm must be dreaming you… you didn't dare say that ?"
"Eddie..."
"Leave !" he said between his teeth. "Get out of here, and out of my life. Don't make me reconsider my decision not to press charges against you. Don't come near me or my family."
"Eddie..."
"Get out of here before I do something I regret."
She tried to approach him, but he backed away, and Bobby, Hen, and Chimney framed him in an instant like a shield.
"I think he asked you to leave."
Athena's voice rang out like the deliverance bugle of a great battle about to tip over. In her uniform, she came to stand alongside the firefighters, and looked at the young woman with a look that meant Don't you dare me or you'll quickly regret it.
"Officer…"
"It's Sergeant !" asked Athena. "Miss Flores, I advise you to leave and stay away from the Diaz family, or Evan Buckley. I respect Mr. Diaz's choice not to file a complaint against you, even if I find it perfectly stupid because you deserve to lose your job after your actions, and I would be happy to report you myself to the rectorate if you do not immediately leave this place. Stay away from this family, because believe me, you wouldn't want to deal with me."
Ana looked up at Eddie, who met hers.
"So it's going to end there ?" she asked. "Because I made a mistake ?"
"My son is in the hospital because of you." Eddie replied. "And it ends there, because I'm in love with someone else, and it's time for me to listen to my heart. Goodbye Ana !"
She wanted to add something, but a simple look at Athena dissuaded her. She turned on her heels and left the station.
"I'm going to make sure she's leaving." Athena said, following her.
"Eddie, get your things and go home." Bobby said. "You are in no condition to work, not after this discussion."
"I can work." Eddie assured.
"Go back to Christopher, and to Buck." Bobby insisted. "You need to be with them."
"He is right." said Hen.
"We'll get by." Bobby said. "I'll see if we can send someone to replace you."
"Okay, thanks Bobby !"
...
Putting Christopher in his pajamas had been tricky, but with Carla's help, it was easier. Tired of the events, the boy yawned and Buck put him to bed. He stayed with him until he fell asleep, which didn't take long.
"No getting up on your own." Buck had told him. "You call me, or you call Carla, okay ?"
Buck walked out of the bedroom, leaving the door ajar. He found Carla in the living room, going through the papers while writing an email from Eddie's computer. Buck read it over his shoulder, and nodded.
"What a talent !" he teased her. She smiles. "I will go down to my car and collect the picnic I have prepared."
"Ok !" Carla said.
He was barely closing the trunk of his jeep, cooler in hand when Eddie's car pulled up nearby.
"Shouldn't you be at work ?" Buck asked her.
"Bobby told me to go home." said Eddie, who was still wearing his uniform. "How is he ?"
"Tired, and he fell asleep." Buck said. "Carla is up there."
"I'm sure you wouldn't have left him alone." Eddie joined him in two big strides and kissed him. "Hmm, I'm going to get addicted."
"Ana…"
"It's over." he cut him off. "I'll explain everything to you in five minutes."
In the apartment, he went to see his son, who was sleeping. A lump formed in his throat upon seeing the bright red cast. Why did he leave him with her ? He should have called Bobby and explained the situation to him. The Captain would have understood. Arms slipped around his waist, and he closed his eyes.
"Carla is on the phone with Pepa." Buck whispered in his ear. "I think it's better for Ana never to meet your aunt."
Eddie swallowed a laugh. Christopher shouldn't be woken up. He closed the door halfway, and turned in Buck's arms.
"If only I had listened to my heart sooner…"
"Do not think about it." Buck said. "Come on, let's find Carla."
The carer handed him the phone, and he heard his aunt spout a couple of expletives in Spanish. Eddie took over and spoke to her in Spanish to try to calm her down. The discussion lasted a good ten minutes, during which Carla decided to leave, since Eddie had returned, but she made Buck promise to call her if necessary. What he did. He locked it behind her, and went into the kitchen to empty the cooler and put the sandwiches and juices in the fridge.
"My aunt is pissed." Eddie said, walking into the kitchen. "I can't even imagine Abuela's reaction."
"And your parents ?" Buck asked.
"Oh, they'll take advantage of it to try to take Chris from me, but they can always dream." Eddie replied. "Okay, you and me, we need to talk."
"Changed your mind already, Diaz ?" Buck joked, a lump in his stomach that this is the case.
"Of course not." Eddie took his hand and led him into the living room, and sat down on the couch. "I love you, Buck. I've veiled for too long to change my mind. You know I've only had Shannon in my life, but I always knew deep down that gender didn't make a difference to me, but my parents...Damn, I had to spend my life at curbing my attraction to guys so as not to disappoint them, at the risk of being unhappy if the person made for me was a man. When I met you, I knew you would be special to me, but I had this voice in my head that told me not to do anything. When Shannon died, I withdrew despite the feelings I had for you. I focused on Christopher, and when I fell back on Ana, I heard the voice of my parents telling me that I had to think of Christopher. It was a bullshit !"
"You don't live for your parents, Eddie, you live for you, and only you." Buck said.
"That's what my sisters kept telling me, but the pressure from my parents was too much." Eddie continued. "Let's not be happy, as long as it made them happy. But when Taylor and you broke up, I realized I had to take my chance, but we kept working hard and, I couldn't find the time to break up with Ana, until Chris told me that he didn't love her. I am a bad father."
"Hey, I forbid you to say that, okay ?" snapped Buck without raising his voice. "You're a great dad, and if your parents don't realize that, that's their problem. You do whatever it takes to make him happy, and that's all that matters. And you are not alone. You have the whole team, you have Carla, Abuela and Pepa. And you have me."
"Never leave me, Buck." Eddie begged, clinging to his hand. "I wouldn't survive without you."
"You'll have to kill me for me to go away." Buck said.
They can't tell who kissed the other first, but who cares ?
"Come live…"
"Yeah, okay !" Buck said against his mouth. "Yes, whenever you want. By the way Diaz, I love you too."
Eddie smiled fully.
When Christopher woke up, Eddie took care of him, led him to the bathroom and then to the living room. The boy let out a shrill, excited cry when he told him that Buck was going to live with them.
"Who's hungry ?" Buck asked, planting himself in front of the TV, a tray containing the picnic sandwiches in his hand.
"Me, me !" Christopher replied, raising his unbroken hand.
"So we have grilled bacon, cheese or tomato and ham." enumerated Buck, like a perfect waiter.
"Bacon !" chooses Christopher.
The sandwich tray was emptied very quickly, but mostly by the two firefighters. Christopher fell asleep halfway through the Avengers movie, which he had wanted to watch.
"To believe that he will spend most of his time in bed." Eddie said, carrying him to his bed.
"Might be better to avoid moving it too much." Buck suggested. "The drugs will tire him out."
"Yeah !" Eddie sighed, stepping out of the room. "Damn, what a morning !"
"Come on, come here pretty boy !"
Buck pulled him to him and kissed him. Eddie immediately relaxed, and put his hands on his hips.
"Hmm, I'll get used to it very, very quickly."
"Oh yeah ?" Buck smiled.
"We have three years to catch up." Eddie said.
"Follow me !"
Buck led him back into the living room, and sat him down on the couch before sitting on his legs.
"We are not alone." Eddie reminded him.
"He's sleeping, and he knows he shouldn't get out of bed without calling one of us, so it's fine." Buck reassured him. "How long do you want to wait, before we get down to business, you and me ?"
Seeing him frown, Buck leaned into his ear and whispered :
"The two of us, naked in a bed."
Eddie's hands on his hips squeezed him tighter, and he could hear him gasp. Buck knew he hadn't slept with Ana, so since Shannon he hadn't made love once again. It was different for Buck. He'd had Taylor for the past few weeks, but while the sex with her was great, without the feelings it wasn't worth much. With Eddie, he knew it would be great in every way. They kissed, and during that kiss, their hands roamed the other's body. Eddie even went so far as to pinch Buck's ass.
"I've dreamed of doing this since the first time I saw you naked in the showers." he confessed.
"Well, Diaz, I'm shocked." Buck joked. "You were eyeing me in the shower ?"
"Oh yes ! I had the boner more than once." Eddie admitted.
"Okay, you know what ? Next time Christopher's has a sleepover, I'll do you, Diaz." Buck warned him. "But I will be gentle, at first. You've never had sex with a man so I'll be careful."
"Stop talking about sex and kiss me."
Eddie cupped his face in his hands and pulled him into a fiery kiss, but they were interrupted by Eddie's cell phone. When he saw who the caller was, he closed his eyes and sighed. And shit ! He picked up.
"Hi mom !"
Buck grimaced. This discussion was not going to go well, he would put his hand in the fire. The longer the call continued, the more Eddie's face tightened.
"No mom, he's sleeping. I'm not going to wake him up just for you to make sure I'm taking good care of him."
Buck rolled his eyes, and decided to have a little fun. Luckily, Eddie would cut the call short and hang up. He saw the bulge in the handsome Mexican's jeans, and looking up, he met Eddie's, black with desire. Buck smiled, and stuck the tip of his tongue out from the corner of his mouth. He challenges the button of the jeans, then lowers the fly and slips his hand inside. Buck knew his partner was fit. Several times they took their showers at the same time when they returned from a perilous procedure that required washing from head to toe and a change of uniform, and several times, the nudity of each other's bodies was exposed. Time and time again, the young man had wanted to join Eddie in his stall and show him how badly he wanted him, but the fear that his feelings would not be reciprocated always took precedence over the burning desire that was taking hold of him. Today, Buck could give free rein to his fantasies.
"No, mom no…"
Eddie bit back a moan. The last thing he wanted was for his mother to hear him having fun, even though Buck was only using his hand. When Buck came down from his legs to kneel between them, he felt his heart pounding in his temples. Oh fuck, Buck was going to suck him. Here, now, while he was on the phone with his mother. Why did he find this prospect exciting ? He bit his fist when Buck kissed the tip of his cock.
"Listen mom, I promise to call you…" (He gulps) "when Christopher wakes up. I have things to do. Bye !"
And he hung up. There Buck took it all into his mouth and Eddie grabbed a pillow and bit into it to stifle his moans. Guttural grunts he had never made before. He was dying to see Buck take him deep in his throat, but he would have to remove the cushion from his own mouth and he might increase the volume of his complaints of pleasure, and so to wake up the little boy sleeping at the end of the hall. Instead, he tilted his head back, wrapped his arms around the cushion and enjoyed it. He let himself go shamefully – not so shamefully after all – and felt the sensation of Buck's mouth going back and forth along his length which grew thicker as he sucked him.
"Buck..." He pulled the pillow away from his face and forced himself to speak quietly. "Buck, I'm going to cum …"
"Don't be shy about me." Buck said, before taking him back in his mouth.
Eddie thought he was fainting and bit his fist almost until he bled, and he let his seed shoot out. Fascinated, he stared at Buck who gulped, then sat up as if nothing had happened. He even let out a sigh of pleasure. A bit like when we had eaten well and were stalled for hours.
"Evan..."
Buck licked his lips, reinserted his man's penis into the jeans he zipped up, then got up and took off his t-shirt. Oh dear ! The perfect body he had. Eddie bit his lip. He so wanted to lose himself against him and feel his skin under his fingers.
"We'll be better off in your room, handsome !" Buck told him.
Eddie grabbed his hand without hesitation, and through a fiery kiss, he could taste his own flavor.
"It's your room now too." he reminded her. "I'm going to return the favor to you."
"Oh I love you so much !" Buck said, pinning him against him.
"Te quiero, Evan !"
...
Two years later !
They got married just months after they got together. None of them wanted a big ceremony. Just family, and it happened in Bobby and Athena's backyard. Eddie's parents, not accepting that their son had decided to make his life with a man, were not invited. Several times again, they had tried to convince Eddie to leave Christopher with them, but Eddie had simply cut ties with them, and the little boy didn't care at all. His grandparents treated him like a baby when he was eleven years old. He was a teenager now. On the other hand, Eddie's sisters had come, and had immediately got on very well with Buck.
The couple had swapped Eddie's apartment for a one-story house to make it easier for Christopher to get around. The boy, now a teenager, had been officially adopted by Buck after the wedding. With three bedrooms, a large bathroom, a kitchen that Buck used every day, and a garden where they had set up a small vegetable patch, and a swing for Christopher, who loved to grow there. The third room was for a future baby, which the three of them wanted. Buck and Eddie wanted to adopt, but they didn't want it to be wobbly and the parent coming back to take them back. Things were taking their course, and they both believed in it. If they had become foster parents, like Hen and Karen, they would have had to change their schedules, and work different hours, but they liked working together too much, and didn't trust anyone. apart the other to bring themselves home alive to their son.
Today was a day like any other at the station, when a medical call put them on the road. When they knew where they were going, Buck refused to be back.
"Bobby, it's been maybe two years but I still don't trust her." Buck told him, when he was designated to stay behind.
"He will find a way to join us." Eddie assured her. "And I confess to you that I prefer that he be with me."
"Okay, everyone in the truck." Bobby conceded.
None of them had seen Ana Flores since this incident two years earlier. The distancing had been effective, and she cared too much about her job as Vice-Principal to risk coming back into the Diaz's lives. Buckley-Diaz now. Eddie knew there was a good chance he would see her during this procedure, but he would still be professional and courteous.
The call concerned a nine-year-old boy, who had received a soccer ball too hard in the face. He had a large bump on his forehead, and he had hit his head as he fell backward in shock.
"The pupils are dilated. He's got a concussion, but he's reacting to light." Hen said as she began the examination.
Eddie and Buck arrived with the stretcher. Eddie quickly met Ana's gaze, who was standing next to the child, and she smiled a smile he knew all too well. No, she didn't seem to have turned the page. He ignored her, and helped the two medic put the child on the stretcher.
"His parents have been notified ?" Bobby asked Ana.
"Yes, I will call them back to tell them which hospital he will be taken to." she replied, before looking back at Eddie.
"We're taking him to the Los Angeles Memorial !" Chimney told her, pushing the stretcher to the ambulance.
Ana followed suit, to make sure the child was well taken care of, and when the doors of the ambulance were closed, and the vehicle pulled away, she took a chance and turned to Eddie.
"I'm glad to finally see you again." she smiles. "And thank you, for removing this distancing measure."
He had moved on in his life, and he no longer wanted to live in constant anguish that this woman would approach him, because this time he would have no qualms about pressing charges. But she was careful not to contact him. He also knew that he might cross paths with her through his work so… Now that he was looking at her, he knew he had made the right decision, even if dating her was not one.
"That doesn't mean I want to reconnect with you, Miss Flores." he said to her.
"Edmundo, it's been two years." she tried. "Maybe we could try again."
"I don't believe that's possible." Buck intervenes calmly, standing next to his husband. "He's not really available anymore. Come on babe…" he said to Eddie. "We have to go back to the station."
The babe was like a concrete block received on the head. Ana hadn't expected this. She would never have thought that her dear Edmundo… but she saw them walking away towards the red truck, and when Eddie brought his left hand up to Buck's face to furtively caress his cheek, she saw a golden ring on his finger. She had really lost him, and she had to come to terms with it.
Back at the station, isolated in the showers for more privacy !
"You've marked your territory." Eddie laughed, no less excited and who demonstrated it by sticking his budding erection against hus husband's pelvis. "Look what it did to me."
"We'll have to wait until we're home to satisfy all that. Buck said, kissing him.
Later that day, they received a call from social services. A three-month-old girl had lost her mother a few weeks earlier, and had no living relatives. Two days later, they brought baby Zoey home, much to Christopher's delight, and soon after, the adoption papers were signed !
