BTW I DO NOT OWN NARUTO IN ANY WAY. MISASHI KISHIMOTO HAS THAT HONOR.
The sounds of crashing and banging and yells of frustration came from the deep within the Foundation facility under Konoha.
The source of this commotion turned to the ANBU in front of him. "So. What exactly happened? How could my plan have failed? What did your squad see at the hideout?! What do you mean the mission failed!?" Danzo demanded.
In front of Danzo, the ANBU in question was kneeling down. "Yes, Danzo-sama. Just like you had ordered me, myself and a group of highly specialized ROOT ANBU operatives were sent to Rigo's team's hideout where they were holding Namikaze Naruto. But...By the time we got there, it was already too late..." the ANBU told his leader.
A shift in the air turned cold. "What do you mean...'too late'?" Danzo questioned.
"By the time we had arrived, it seems that Hatake Kakashi was first. The other members of Rigo's team had already been assassinated with ease from Kakashi. And Rigo was dead as well, with Naruto gone." the ANBU answered.
Silence filled the room. Danzo glared down at his desk with so much hatred, one would be surprised that it didn't catch fire.
A sigh came from the war hawk, as he calmed himself down. 'I guess it's back to the drawing board for a while...I'll have to ignore Naruto for now, at least until an opportunity presents itself.' he thought to himself.
The office of the Hokage of the leaf village was occupied by two of their strongest shinobi. Hiruzen was sitting behind his desk staring at the young ANBU in front of him, Kakashi.
A raised eyebrow from Hiruzen, asked Kakashi the question. "Naruto is currently in the hospital. The medics said that he has severe mental trauma and has suffered from Marie Antoinette Syndrome." Kakashi reports.
"Marie Antoinette Syndrome? What happened to Naruto?" Hiruzen questioned.
"I'm not sure, but whatever it was, it wasn't pleasant. When I had eventually arrived at the hideout, I had found Naruto in what seemed to be a torture room. It was covered in blood, and there were plentiful tools that would be used for pain. Naruto himself was passed out already, but it seemed that he had killed his torturer, as he was dead with a hole in his chest." Kakashi informed him.
The Hokage was absorbing the report and analyzing it in his head. The aged veteran looked back up, "Was there evidence of the Kyuubi's chakra being used?" he asked
"Yes. Before I even arrived, I could sense it's monstrous chakra. There's no doubt about it, Naruto used the influence of the Kyuubi to kill that man." Kakashi responded.
"I see... So that's why he didn't have any injuries, the Kyuubi must have healed him." Hiruzen commented.
Hiruzen looked back up to Kakashi and saw that he had a worried look on his face. The young man before him was clearly having trouble displaying his emotions. After all, the son of the man that Kakashi saw as a father figure is being treated horribly, and there isn't anything he could do about it.
"What is it, Kakashi?" he asked.
"I... What is going to happen to Naruto after this?" the ANBU asked
The Hokage narrowed his eyes at this question. "I'm still determining that. But first I am going to visit Naruto in hospital once he awakens and question him about what happened, and ascertain what course to take." he told him.
The look of uncharacteristic determination in the eyes of the white haired ANBU threw the Hokage off. "Hokage-sama. I request to be allowed to take care of Naruto's well being from here on out." Kakashi requested with bow.
"I refuse." Hiruzen blatantly replied.
"Why!?" Kakashi questions in frustration.
"First. If word got out that Sharingan no Kakashi was taking care of a child who has a similar appearance to the late Yondaime Hokage, it could cause Naruto's heritage to be revealed. It would cause Naruto to have an even bigger target on his back than the one that our own villagers aim at." Hiruzen began.
"Second..." Hiruzen continued, getting Kakashi's close attention.
"You already have "them" to look after, don't you?" he questioned, making Kakashi look down at his feet.
"I don't need one of my top shinobi to be overloaded with more responsibilities than he can handle." Hiruzen told Kakashi.
Silence filled the office. Kakashi was clearly frustrated and upset. But of course, he couldn't defy his leaders orders that were given to him.
A sigh came from the man behind the desk. "However..." Hiruzen spoke up, regaining Kakashi's attention.
"Considering the amount of incidents that Naruto has been in recently, he will need someone to look after him, from the shadows to make sure no attempts to harm him." Hiruzen said, raising Kakashi's hopes.
"I will allow you to take this position. However, you are not allowed to approach Naruto, and you must not reveal yourself before him, no matter how much you wish to." Hiruzen ordered him.
A bow came from the white haired ANBU. "Thank you, Hokage-sama." Kakashi said, before flickering away.
The now alone Hokage stared at where Kakashi was, before looking up at the picture of Minato on the wall. 'Forgive me, Minato. I truly haven't tried hard enough to protect your son.' he thought to himself in guilt.
Tired eyes fought their way open, only to close themselves shut upon the light of the room. Naruto grunted and reopened his eyes and looked around, and saw that he was in the hospital, once again.
The sound of the sliding door to his room opening caught his attention. The Hokage walked in with what appeared to be a saddened look on his face, and sat down next to Naruto's bed.
Hiruzen looked upon the child that he supposed to take care of and watch over. He had finally realized the changes in Naruto since his disappearance.
In place of his vibrant red hair, was now snow white. In place of his violet eyes, were dull silvery purple orbs. And there was also an exhausted look in his eyes, that made him appear 10 years older than his age.
One way to put it would be to say that Naruto is a shell of his former self, Hiruzen could already determine that without even exchanging conversation.
Naruto sat up, giving Hiruzen a better look at him.
He had tired bags under his eyes. His skin was pale, and if you looked into his eyes, it looked as if there was no soul left living inside of him.
"Naruto..." Hiruzen began, attempting to gain Naruto's attention.
The white haired child looked up slowly into Hiruzen's eyes. The sight of those lifeless eyes peering into his soul made his shudder.
"Do you wish to talk to me about what happened?" he questioned.
The response he received was silence. Hiruzen saw that Naruto clearly didn't want to talk about what happened. He knew that Naruto had always been a quiet kid, but he was also kind and intelligent, very similar to Minato. Though this was to be expected after a traumatizing event. He might never truly be the same ever again.
A sigh came from Hiruzen. "If don't wish to talk about I understand." Hiruzen said.
"My parents..." Naruto finally spoke up quietly, surprising Hiruzen.
"What was that?" the Hokage asked.
"My parents... Who were they?" Naruto questioned.
Hiruzen narrowed his eyes at the question. 'Parents? Why would he ask about them now? Did the torturer know something about Kushina or Minato and reveal it to Naruto?' his thoughts were running through his head.
"Why the sudden interest?" Hiruzen questioned carefully.
"My mother... That man who was there with me...he mentioned her..." Naruto told him.
'I see... If my hunch about the group who was holding Naruto was attempting to manipulate him, then I bet that they must have mentioned Kushina and took advantage of his mental state to attempt to gain control of him.' Hiruzen thought.
"There is no need for you to be worrying about such things." Hiruzen told him, attempting to change the topic.
A grunt of frustration came from the boy. "Stop... Stop avoiding my question..." Naruto demanded.
There was an intense stare down between the boy and the Hokage.
"Fine. I will give you a truth. I cannot tell you who your parents are." Hiruzen said.
"WHY?!" Naruto finally exclaimed.
"It's not that I choose not to, its that I am doing this for your sake. Naruto, you are a very special person. As I am sure that you are aware, as I know that you are not stupid, you are the Kyuubi Jinchuuriki." Hiruzen began.
The Hokage observed Naruto's reaction, and as he had expected, there was no reaction from this statement.
"As you know, the Yondaime Hokage was faced with the burden of sealing the Kyuubi into you to save the village. He attempted to make the village see you as a hero before his death. But we both know how that ended. To answer your question, your parents had close relations to the Yondaime." Hiruzen told Naruto, who was listening with wide eyes.
"If word ever got out that you were the Kyuubi jinchuuriki, or that your family had close relations to the Yondaime, then you would be targeted, and villages like Iwa and Kumo would be after you. As Hokage, I cannot allow that to happen." Hiruzen finished his explanation.
The hospitalized boy sat in his bed and stared down into his lap in comprehension.
"If there is one thing that I know for sure is that your parents loved you dearly." Hiruzen said.
Naruto's eyes widened at this statement, and before he knew it, there were tears falling from his dull eyes.
"Of course, as a shinobi you will become strong, that is your destiny. So I promise to give you terms in regards to the answers you seek after you graduate from the academy and become a shinobi." Hiruzen declared, shocking the boy.
The young Namikaze looked at the Hokage with hope. "If I become a shinobi, you will tell me who my parents are?" Naruto questioned his leader about the terms.
"Close, but not quite. If you become a shinobi, I will then enter into an agreement with you. A pact of sorts. We will determine the terms of the pact, and if you complete what is required then I will give you answers." Hiruzen told the young jinchuriki, before he stood up and began to walk out of the room.
The sounds of footsteps came to a halt once they reached the door. "I believe in you Naruto. As a future shinobi, always remember that if you have a goal in mind that you always work towards, you will become stronger." Hiruzen said before he continued out of the room.
The room was now occupied only by Naruto. Said boy looked down into his pale hand and gripped it into a harsh fist. "I swear that I will become a shinobi, not only to find my answers, but to protect myself, as well as any other who has experienced the same pain as I have." Naruto said with determination.
Its been a couple weeks since multiple incidents in the village occured. First was the death of Satsuki, a civilian girl who was enrolled in the shinobi academy. The second was the Uchiha Massacre, which the entire village was grieving and sad about, and they were all worried about the well being of the only Uchiha survivor, Uchiha Sasuke.
Something else that didn't go unnoticed by the villagers was that the target of their hatred, the Kyuubi jinchuuriki that they always glared at was missing as well. It seemed that Naruto hasn't made an appearance in over a month in the village. It was the same with Uchiha Sasuke. Ever since the massacre, the Uchiha hasn't been coming to the Academy either.
Even though two of the academy's top students were missing, they still continued classes without them.
"This is such a drag..." Nara Shikamaru said tiredly, sitting next to his best friend, Akimichi Choji.
"I don't really get it either. Want some?" Choji said while munching on some potato chips, offering some to his lazy friend.
Up at the front of class was their room's sensei, Umino Iruka. Currently said sensei was continuing his lessons even though there was plenty amount of talking and commotion. Though his boiling point was getting close.
Though normally the two fangirls of Sakura and Ino would be arguing with each other over who is true person that Uchiha Sasuke will marry and love in the future, currently they were actually talking to each other.
"Where do you think Sasuke-kun is?" the pink haired girl asked her ex-friend.
"I'm not sure, but it's to be expected, isn't it? After all, the entire Uchiha clan besides himself was killed. There is no doubt that Sasuke-kun is most likely grieving." the blond haired Yamanaka said.
"HEY! YOU LOT! SHUT UP ALREADY!" Iruka exclaimed in anger after reaching his limit.
The entire classroom quieted from his outbreak in fear. Iruka sighed and scratched the back of his head in irritation. "Jeez, you guys really can't keep quiet can you?-" Iruka said before getting interrupted by the sound of the sliding door opening.
Everyone looked over and saw their favorite Uchiha, who was avoiding eye contact. The class became overjoyed and started to make a lot of noise once again.
Iruka was surprised by his appearance but smiled sadly at the boy. "Welcome back Sasuke. I'm glad that you've finally returned to your classes, and I'm sorry about what happened." Iruka spoke up.
The Uchiha boy didn't respond and simply kept his coal colored eyes at his feet and walked over to the nearby empty bench to sit down, making everyone realize that he just wanted to be left alone and decided to be quiet.
Iruka after seeing the class remaining quiet decided that it was finally time to resume the lesson, before the sound of more footsteps reaching the door stopped, catching everyone's attention, including Sasuke.
When everyone looked over, they did not expect to see what they saw.
Namikaze Naruto. The boy who had disappeared about a month ago finally returned to class. Though something had clearly happened to him while he was gone. His previous vibrant red hair was missing, and was now as white as snow. His eyes which used to be violet were now a dull shade of silvery purple. Though not as noticable his skin seemed to have become lighter and close to a pale color, as if he had been sick recently.
At first glance at the boy, most would have simply approached him and started to question his disappearance, but there was something that stopped them. It was that look. The look in his eyes, that simply told people to leave him alone. His face was a simple straight stoic expression, and he hadn't spoken a word. While everyone knew that Naruto was a more subdued person, he always used to have a bright light in his eyes and was capable of a smile. But that previous interpretation of Naruto was completely gone.
Even Iruka himself didn't speak up this time, like he did with Sasuke, he couldn't help but stay quiet at the sight in front of his eyes.
Naruto didn't bother waiting for Iruka's permission either and simply walked into the classroom and began to walking up the steps towards his seat that he always used to sit at in the back left corner near the window. While walking up the stairs, he passed by Sasuke.
While near each other they both narrowed each others eyes at each other, clearly observing the changes in each other. 'Something definitely happened to him. I guess I'm not the only one... That pain that he hides in his eyes...even without the Sharingan I can see it clear as day.' Sasuke thought to himself.
'That's right... The Uchiha massacre. I guess Sasuke survived his brother's wrath. It seems that Kagami wasn't so lucky though...' Naruto though with a hidden grimace as he reached his seat and sat down in silence.
After what seemed like minutes of silence, Iruka coughed into his hand. "As I was saying, the importance of chakra control is essential to a shinobi's techniques..." their sensei continued their lesson.
Naruto tuned out what Iruka was saying and looked out the window at the Hokage monument, specifically staring down the Yondaime's mountainside face and gripped his hand into a fist under his desk. 'I will become a shinobi. I will find the answer I seek, and find out your relationship with whoever my parents were.' Naruto told the Yondaime in his head.
