It's been about another 6 months since Naruto and Sasuke had met Shisui, who they were surprised to see alive. Over the months, Sasuke has begun training his newly acquired dojutsu, the Sharingan. Currently it was still in its single tomoe state.
Said Uchiha's training partner hasn't been slacking off either. Naruto attempted to continue his training with his new kunai kawarimi jutsu, but it wasn't as successful as he had hoped. While he was still capable of using the jutsu earlier on in a fight, when his chakra reserves were higher, if he attempted to use the jutsu while he was low on chakra, his body wouldn't be able to handle it.
Because of this, Naruto attempted to further increase his chakra control, to decrease the amount of chakra he would use for the jutsu. Though he didn't make much progress, as he only knew the leaf balancing exercise which still attempted to used by just increasing the amount of leaves that he would apply to his body.
In the end, the chakra control exercise was helping him with all of his techniques besides his new jutsu. Of course, one of the biggest reasons he couldn't use his large reserves to their full potential was due to him always using small amounts of chakra to suppress the Kyuubi's chakra which he loathed.
Recently, Naruto added a couple of new Raiton ninjutsu to his arsenal. As well as a couple Suiton ninjutsu techniques.
Currently, at this time of the year, the time for the shinobi academy graduation was recently. In the results of the exams, both Naruto and Sasuke passed at the top of the class as expected.
There was news around the village that their assistant sensei in their class, Mizuki, had attempted to steal the scroll of sealing, but he was apprehended by the ANBU and was sent to the Interrogation Division.
Today was the day that the genin team placements would be revealed.
Inside of the Academy, the classroom was filled with all of the students who passed the test, and they were excited for their team placements. Even Sasuke who was already at his seat, before Naruto arrived, was also somewhat looking forward to it.
The young Uchiha pre-teen has definitely changed over the years. The 12 year old was about five-foot in height. Sasuke had fair skin complexion and had coal colored eyes, with no baby fat on his face. His black hair was long enough the frame his face, and looked like a duck butt in the back.
The boy was wearing a dark blue high collared Uchiha shirt with his forearms and wrists wrapped in bandages. He was wearing a pair of dark grey shorts, and he had his legs, all the way from his ankles to below his knees wrapped in bandages. He also had blue shinobi sandals, and a tanto strapped to his back.
The sound of the sliding door reached his ears, making him look over. He was met with the sight of his one and only friend and training partner.
The white haired 12 year old had his own changes as well. Naruto stood at about five-foot in height. His snow white hair was still as spiky as ever and was now long enough to have bangs which framed his angular face which had no baby fat, and he would have had his hair hang into his eyes if it weren't for the dark blue clothed forehead protector. His skin complexion was fair, and he had a dull shade of silvery purple eyes which were sharp and could pierce anyone he looked at.
His attire consisted of a dark blue fitted long sleeve high collar shirt. His sleeves had metal arm protectors which were attached by bands. He was wearing dark gray pants which went down to his shins and were tucked into bandages which covered his ankles and legs. He was also wearing simple blue shinobi sandals, and just like Sasuke, he had a tanto strapped to his back.
The Namikaze genin saw Sasuke and simply walked in, ignoring the commotion from everyone else and sat down next to him. The both of them looked forward at the front of class and saw their sensei Iruka take in a big inhale, warning them of the coming outrage from him.
"SHUT UP, BE QUIET ALREADY!" Iruka exclaimed loudly, making everyone hold their ears in pain, besides Naruto and Sasuke who covered their ears with their hands beforehand.
"Finally. Now, it's time to reveal the team placements..." Iruka began getting everyone's attention.
Their sensei began to go through the first couple of teams, before he started to name off the teams that had some of the more highly ranked students.
"Team 5! Misaki, Aoyama, and Touma! Your Jonin Leader will be Kanzaki." Iruka told group 5.
The first girl named off, Misaki, she was a brown haired girl with blue eyes. Aoyama, the first boy, he had blonde hair and black eyes. The second boy, Touma had black hair and black eyes.
"Team 6! Shikotsu Kurumi, Midori Ichiro, and Midori Jiro! Your Jonin Leader will be Shiranui Genma." Iruka listed off group 6.
The girl, Shikotsu Kurumi, she had black hair and red eyes. Midori Ichiro and Jiro were twin brothers who were identical. The two boys both had bright green hair and yellow eyes.
"Team 7! Namikaze Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura! Your Jonin Leader will be Hatake Kakashi." Iruka announced.
This caught Naruto and Sasuke off guard, as the two of them knew that they were both the top two students, they never expected that they would have been placed on the same team as genin. Of course, Sakura was excited to be with her crush and screaming something about love.
"Team 8! Inuzuka Kiba, Aburame Shino, and Hyuuga Hinata! Your Jonin Leader will be Yuhi Kurenai." Iruka continued.
This team was filled with clan shinobi. Kiba had brown hair and black eyes with red triangle marks on his cheek, he also had a small white dog with him. The Aburame bug clan boy, Shino, he had brown hair and his eyes were hidden by sunglasses. The girl of the team had black hair which had a tint of purple in it and she had pale lavender colored eyes.
"Team 10! Nara Shikamaru, Akimichi Choji, and Yamanaka Ino! Your Jonin Leader will be Sarutobi Asuma." Iruka called out the last team.
The secretly intelligent Nara boy had black hair pulled back into a ponytail which looked like a pineapple, and his black eyes had a lazy look in them. His best friend, the Akimichi boy was large boy who had light brown spiky hair and black eyes, and on his cheeks were red swirl markings. Their final teammate, the girl, had pale blonde long hair, and had teal colored eyes.
"Alright! That's all for the team placements. This is your first big step in your shinobi careers, good luck, and hold on to the will of fire! Your new Jonin Leaders will be here to pick up your team shortly." Iruka finished and walked out of the room.
The room instantly increased in volume, as everyone began to cheer and get excited about their teams and all.
The sound of the door opening once more caught everyone's attention. A woman in jonin garbs and a katana strapped to her waist walked in. She was about five-foot five in height and had long black hair in a high ponytail.
"I'm Kanzaki. Team 5, Misaki, Aoyama, and Touma, follow me." Kanzaki said as she turned and walked out, shortly followed by her students.
They didn't have to wait long before another came in. Another Jonin in normal garbs came in. The man was about five-foot ten in height and had shoulder length brown hair which was partly covered by his headband which he was wearing like a bandana. Another notable detail about the man was the long tooth pick that hung lazily in his mouth.
"I'm Shiranui Genma. Team 6, Shikotsu Kurumi, Midori Ichiro and Jiro. You three, come on." Genma said lazily, and left followed by his genin.
Next, two jonin came in at once. The first was a man who was about six-foot three in height. The man had black hair and a large beard on his face which had a cigarette in his mouth.
The second jonin was not wearing the traditional jonin garbs. It was a woman of about five-foot five in height. She had long curly black hair and ruby red eyes.
"Team 10. I'm Sarutobi Asuma. C'mon Ino-Shika-Cho." Asuma said prompting the legendary generational genin to follow him.
"Team 8. I'm Yuhi Kurenai, your new sensei. Inuzuka Kiba, Aburame Shino, and Hyuuga Hinata, please follow me." Kurenai said as she then left with her new students.
Silence filled the classroom as Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura sat silently, waiting for their Jonin sensei to arrive.
They sat there for about 3 hours. It was very uneventful. Sasuke stared out the window. Naruto read some scrolls. While Sakura continued to switch between laying her head on her desk, pacing the room, or asking Sasuke on a date, who refused.
The sound of the scroll of Naruto's being put away, made Sasuke realize he sensed someone, while Sakura remained unaware. Naruto looked over at the door which opened at the same time, finally getting Sakura's attention.
It revealed another jonin. It was a man who was about five-foot eleven in height. He had gravity defying spiky gray hair. His attire consisted of the normal traditional jonin garbs with an additional skin tight face mask. His headband was also tilted to the left, covering his left eye. From the way he was standing, and the lazy look in his single eye, it looked as if he just woke up.
"Uh...right...uh... Team 7, I'm your sensei... You guys seem pretty boring, meet me on the roof." Was all the man said before disappearing with a poof of smoke.
"Ugh. What's his problem?" Sakura said irritatedly, before realizing that her two male teammates were already leaving the classroom and she quickly chased after the two of them.
Eventually the new 3 genin arrived on the roof of the academy to meet their new sensei. When they arrived they saw him leaning against the railing on the edge, while reading an orange book. He saw their arrival, and slipped the book back into his pouch. The genin sat down on the steps.
"Let's see here. How about you three introduce yourselves to me real quick, hm?" Kakashi suggested.
"Introduce ourselves? What would we say?" Sakura said, making them sweatdrop.
A sigh came from Kakashi. "Your likes, dislikes, your future dream, hobbies, those type of things." he said.
The Uchiha boy narrowed his eyes. "I don't introduce myself to someone who hasn't already done the same." Sasuke said.
'Good. That's a good trait for a shinobi to have, Sasuke.' Kakashi thought.
"Alright, fine then. My name is Hatake Kakashi. However, I don't really feel like telling you my likes or dislikes. At this point, I haven't really thought about my future dream or anything... As for my hobbies, I have many." Kakashi said, limiting the amount of information about himself.
Sweat drops came from the three genin. 'All we learned from that was his name...' They all thought.
"Yosh. Next is you guys. Let's start with you." Kakashi said before looking over at the pink haired girl.
"I'm Haruno Sakura. What I like... I mean, who I like is..." She started before looking at Sasuke who ignored her. "And, my hobby is... I mean... My future dream is... Kyaa!" Sakura finished, clearly showing her fangirl status.
A hidden sigh came from Kakashi. 'As expected. I bet that most girls her age are probably more interested in love, than the shinobi arts. Well I guess that just mean more work for me to fix that part of her.' Kakashi thought to himself.
"Alright, you?" Kakashi said to Sasuke.
"My name is Uchiha Sasuke. I have lots of dislikes, and very few likes. My hobbies would consist of training. And... My future dream... I wouldn't consider it a dream, but more of an ambition, because I will make it a reality. I will restore my clan by killing a certain man, and I will become the first Uchiha Hokage." Sasuke finished introducing himself, making Kakashi's single eye widen.
'Hokage? I guess he ended up a little bit different than I thought he would. Well, he most likely wants to have his clan's reputation return to what it was once in the past, and becoming Hokage would definitely do that.' Kakashi assumed.
"Good. Now finally, you." Kakashi said, looking at Naruto.
"My name is Namikaze Naruto. I don't have any interesting likes or dislikes. My hobbies that I enjoy would be training, reading and cooking. My future goal is to attain the answers I want. I also want to become a shinobi capable of protecting the village." Naruto told the others.
'Answers? Does he mean who his parents are?' Kakashi questioned, with a narrowed eye.
"Yosh. The three of you are all very distinctive and interesting. Tomorrow, we have our first mission." Kakashi said, getting their close attention.
"The mission will consist of something that just us four can do. A survival exercise." Kakashi told them, surprising them.
"A survival exercise? Why would we perform an exercise if it's supposed to be a mission? Didn't we already have enough exercises while in the academy?" Sakura questioned her jonin sensei.
"What we are going to be doing isn't any normal exercise." Kakashi said.
"How is this exercise going to not be any different from normal ones?" Sasuke questioned him.
A chuckle came from Kakashi, catching them off guard, confusing them. Suddenly the chuckle came to a halt and a serious look appeared on his face.
"Of the twenty-seven graduates, only 15 of them will be recognized as genin. The remaining twelve graduates will be forced to return to the academy. In other words, this exercise is an extremely difficult test with a failure rate of 44% or higher." Kakashi explained.
Sasuke grit his teeth, and Naruto clenched his hand. While Sakura seemed frightened.
"What was the point of the graduation test then?" Naruto asked after composing himself.
"That test was just to help us see who has the potential of becoming a genin." Kakashi told them.
"Alright. Anyway, I'll be determining whether you pass or fail tomorrow. Bring your shinobi tools. We will meet at five in the morning." Kakashi ordered them.
"Okay, we're done. You're all dismissed." Kakashi told them and vanished with a poof of smoke.
It was before sunrise. There were three figures all approaching the training grounds with all of their tools and supplies. The group stood around for about three hours with no sign of their sensei.
At this point, the sign had already risen. Sakura was sitting down, tired of standing. Naruto and Sasuke were standing still, waiting for their late sensei.
"Yo, folks. Morning." Kakashi said, acting as if he wasn't 3 hours late.
"You're late! Kakashi-sensei!" Sakura exclaimed.
"Mah, well you see, on my way here I passed by a black cat, so I had to take the long way to make sure I didn't get bad luck." Kakashi said with an eye smile.
"Liar!" Sakura once again exclaimed.
"Anyway..." Kakashi began before walking over to the nearby wooden posts. He then took out an alarm clock and put it on top of of the stumps. "Alright, this is set for 12pm!" Kakashi told them.
"For today's mission, you three have to take these bells away from me by noon." Kakashi said to them after taking out two bells which were tied to a red string which he attached to his hip.
"If you fail in getting a bell, you will be tied to one of those posts. And if you haven't already seen that I only have two bells... The reason for this is so that at the very least, one of you will go to the log. That person will then be disqualified for failing the mission... and will then be forced to return to the academy." Kakashi told them the rules of his test.
"There might only be one failure, or it could be all three of you. You can use you shuriken if you want, or whatever. But, you won't be able to take these bells from me if you aren't coming with the intent to kill me." Kakashi told them.
"But that's dangerous sensei! What if you-" Sakura began to say before turning to her teammates.
The both of them narrowed their eyes at the single eyed jonin with determination, showing her that they were prepared, so she shakily stood ready as well.
"In the shinobi world, those who aren't skilled enough... die." Kakashi said, silencing the training ground.
"Alright... " He began, putting them on guard. "Ready... start!" Kakashi exclaimed, prompting the three of them to flicker into the trees.
A sigh came from Kakashi. 'Fundamentally, a shinobi must mask and hide their presence.' Kakashi thought as he observed his genin. Sakura was the most visible of the three, as she was simply hiding under a bush. While Naruto and Sasuke both were in their own leafy trees.
'Good. At least none of them are stupid enough to not hide. I guess the first thing to do is to bait Sasuke.' Kakashi thought to himself. He then reached deep into his pouch, putting them on guard.
They didn't prepare for what he pulled out though, as he revealed his orange book once again. Sasuke grit his teeth at this. 'He's mocking us. Instead of focusing on the test he is reading his book.' He thought in annoyance.
The Uchiha boy watched closely. Right when Kakashi grabbed the next page to turn, Sasuke took his chance. 'NOW!' He thought as he quickly released multiple shuriken and kunai at the man.
The gray haired jonin simply flickered out of them way and reappeared with all of the shinobi tools resting on his fingers. Kakashi then turned his head in Sasuke's direction with a narrowed eye.
'Damn! He knew I was going to do that, and now he knows my location!' Sasuke thought in frustration and rushed through the trees.
'Sasuke-kun! Where are you!?' Sakura thought in worry and she ran through the forest in attempt to find her crush.
'This Kakashi isn't bad. There is no way any of us can get a bell if he is this serious.' Naruto thought to himself before he blended into the shadows.
Sounds of fast ruffling was speeding through the trees, along with a pink haired girl.
'Sasuke-kun! Where are you!? Don't tell me that Sensei defeated you!?' Sakura thought in worry.
She then tripped over a branch and landed on the ground, and looked forward. Kakashi was standing not too far away, looking at his orange book, and appeared to haven't noticed Sakura's presence.
A sigh came from the girl, 'Thank god, he didn't notice me.' Sakura thought.
"Sakura. Behind you." A voice came from behind her.
"Huh?" the girl said dumbly, before turning around and saw Kakashi staring at her. She then screamed.
The footsteps of the new Uchiha genin halted, and he turned his head to look at the forest.
'That voice... It seems that Sensei got Sakura.' he thought, while preparing to fight Kakashi.
Leaves were whirling around in a tornado formation around Sakura, who seemed to be half asleep.
"Huh? What was that? Hold on! Where did sensei go!?" Sakura said out loud in confusion.
"S-Sakura..." the familiar voice of her favorite Uchiha came from behind her.
The pink haired girl twirled around with a smile. "Sasuke-kun!?" she said cheerfully, before meeting the shocking sight in front of her.
The form of Sasuke was leaning against a tree, bloodied, with multiple lacerations and a broken leg.
"S-Sakura... help me..." The dark haired boy said.
In response, Sakura simply teared up at the sight in front of her before screaming and passing out.
Up in the nearby trees, a sigh came. 'Maybe I went a bit overboard... But according to her academy records, she is supposed to be able to at least detect C-Rank genjutsu, and the one I was used was only a D-Rank...' Kakashi thought in disappointment.
"Sakura was easily lured, using genjutsu." Kakashi said, while leaning against a tree.
"Genjutsu, huh?" Sasuke responded, while standing with his back facing his sensei not too far away.
"But..." The dark haired boy began, getting Kakashi's attention. "I'm different from her." he finished.
A chuckle came from the gray haired jonin. "Why don't you say that after you get a bell... Sasuke-kun?" he said with an eye smile.
The jonin then pushed off from the tree and walked towards the Uchiha, who turned around to face him as well.
Their stare off continued for a while, before Sasuke made the first move. He quickdraw multiple shuriken and kunai at Kakashi who easily dodged.
"There's no point in straightforward attacks." Kakashi said, as he saw a smirk from Sasuke.
The Uchiha then threw another kunai past Kakashi, and cut a rope.
'A trap?' the jonin thought before jumping out of the way of the barrage of kunai.
Suddenly Sasuke appeared in mid air and sent a roundhouse kick at Kakashi who blocked with his arm and gripped the leg. Sasuke then threw another punch at his sensei who caught it with ease. Finally, Sasuke used his other leg to attack, but Kakashi was still capable of blocking.
Another smirk appeared on Sasuke's face who twisted his body around and reached with his free hand towards Kakashi's bells. Right when his finger touched one of the bells slightly, Kakashi swiftly let go of the Uchiha and backed off.
'Not bad. He definitely is an Uchiha genius.' Kakashi thought before he saw Sasuke go through multiple hand seals he recognized.
"Katon: Goukakyuu no jutsu!" Sasuke exclaimed and released a large fireball at Kakashi who didn't bother to dodge.
When the smoke cleared, it revealed no Kakashi in sight. This put Sasuke on guard as he looked around the field looking for him.
The sound of the rock below him cracking put him on quick guard. Sasuke quickly activated his single tomoe Sharingan in time to be able to dodged Kakashi's Doton attack.
The single eye of Kakashi narrowed. 'I see. So he's using his Sharingan. But unfortunately, I still have one more student that I must test.' Kakashi thought.
"With my Sharingan, I'll be able to read your move now." Sasuke said.
"Hmm, is that so... Then, how will you counter this." Kakashi told him, before going through hand signs, putting the Uchiha on guard.
"Raiton: Shichu Shibari!" Kakashi called out, creating four earth pillars surrounding Sasuke before they generated lightning which connected to each other, which essentially trapped Sasuke inside.
The Uchiha was caught off guard by the trap, and quickly tried to run through the lightning which simply thrusted him back.
"I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to be dealing with you." Kakashi told him.
"Damn it!" Sasuke said in irritation.
"See ya." Kakashi said, before flickering away.
The sound of slow walking footsteps were echoing through the dark forest.
'Now... Where is Naruto?' Kakashi thought to himself, before the sound of a click by his feet caught his attention.
Suddenly a large trapping net sprung up from the ground and wrapped around Kakashi, before suspending him in the air. Then Kakashi's body went up with a poof of smoke, revealing a log in his place.
A sigh came from the jonin as he walked forward and watched as Naruto walked from behind a tree, and began to stare down his sensei. Kakashi looked at Naruto and saw his serious face, and it did truly remind him of Minato-sensei.
"Is that all?" he questioned his genin, who stayed silent.
Deciding to make the first move, Kakashi flickered in front of Naruto, catching him off guard and went to backhand his head, in attempt to knock him out. Naruto, in an impressive feat of speed dodged backwards, dodging the blow.
'I think he's faster than when I last observed him.' Kakashi thought to himself.
After dodging the previous blow, Naruto, with high-speed jumped at Kakashi with a fast roundhouse kick which Kakashi blocked. Kakashi then attempted to grab onto the leg he blocked, but Naruto saw this and let himself drop to the ground.
Landing on his hands, Naruto twirled himself around and went for a sweeping kick at Kakashi's legs who jumped back to dodge. Naruto quickly got up and grabbed a kunai and tossed it at Kakashi's head who tilted to the side to dodge.
Before Kakashi's single eye, Naruto vanished, and in his place was a kunai, surprising him as Naruto appeared in the air behind him.
A wide eye showed Kakashi shock. 'Thats... just like Hiraishin no jutsu! I see, he must have used his high chakra reserves to his advantage to be able to switch himself with a small object like his kunai. He truly does remind me of Minato-sensei.' Kakashi analyzed the jutsu.
While in mid-air Naruto twisted around and was able to almost get his entire hand around one of the bells on Kakashi's waist, who quickly flickered away from his genin's reach using Shunshin no jutsu.
Not at all surprised by his failure, Naruto quickly through shuriken at Kakashi who dodged, but heard the snapping of a rope.
'Both Sasuke and Naruto love their traps, don't they?' Kakashi thought, as he then jumped away from a couple kunai, which landed at his previous spot.
He then saw the paper tags attached to the kunai. 'Paper bombs!' he thought as an explosion hid his figure from view.
The jonin then flew out from the smoke and slid to a stop. He quickly turned around an used his kunai to block a blow from Naruto who attempted to attack him using his new tanto.
The white haired boy pushed off of Kakashi's kunai and flipped over the man before running behind a tree, and then came running back and engaged in close quarters combat, and proceeded to repeat this process for a while.
'This is getting repetitive, what does he plan on doing? All he's doing his attacking before backing off behind the trees.' Kakashi questioned.
After running around another tree, Naruto swiped at Kakashi using his tanto. Kakashi used his free hand to grip Naruto's wrist, and then thrusted upwards, sending Naruto's tanto out of his hand.
In response, Naruto quickly backed off and landed on a tree branch, and looked down at his sensei. Naruto then reached into his sleeves, catching Kakashi attention as he then pulled out metal wire, which made a sharp noise, around him.
'This is...' Kakashi thought and looked around his surroundings and saw that multiple layers of wire was wrapped around the trees surrounding him.
'I see. So while he was running around the trees in between attacks, he was planting wire... But what does he plan to do next?' Kakashi questioned.
The Namikaze then wrapped the wire around his wrists, before he started to go through multiple hand seals.
"Raiton: Ikazuchi!" Naruto exclaimed, which generated lightning from his hands and wrists, which then flowed and channeled through his metal wire and surrounded the trees which trapped Kakashi in one location.
"Hmm... So, this hasn't affected me whatsoever, so what are you going to do now?" Kakashi asked.
"This." Naruto said before through more hand seals, which made Kakashi surprised after recognizing the jutsu.
'That jutsu... If I'm not mistaken that's a B-Rank ninjutsu.' Kakashi thought.
"Raiton: Raishinsen!" Naruto exclaimed and summoned a blue lightning in his hand which he then threw like a lightning bolt at Kakashi which created a large explosion, and a crater, in the process, it destroyed the metal wire he had placed as well.
Panting came from the boy, who dropped to his knees on his branch.
'Did I get him?' Naruto questioned as he continued to watch the clearing smoke.
Suddenly the feeling of cold metal was on his throat. Naruto turned around with wide eyes in shock, and was met by Kakashi who was clearly uninjured and had a serious look on his single eye.
'I didn't even sense his presence! How does he do that?' Naruto thought in confusion
"You lose Naruto, you can't beat me." Kakashi told him.
"N-No way..." Naruto said in shock, before turning back to the crater and saw a body of Kakashi which went up in a poof of smoke.
"Kage Bunshin no jutsu." Kakashi said, answering his unspoken question.
The white haired boy gained an upset look in his eyes and looked down at his knees.
He then reached down and gripped leaves in his hands. "I was... I was so close..." Naruto said in frustration.
A sigh came from the jonin who stood up. 'So close, huh? He truly does remind me of my past self as well.' Kakashi thought.
The sound of the alarm bell reached their ears.
"Come on, Naruto. Let's return to the others." Kakashi told him.
About ten minutes later, the entire team was back at the main training ground clearing, next to the wooden posts. Currently Sakura was tied to the post, with Naruto and Sasuke sitting nearby, with lunches in front of them.
"It seems that after that whole exercise, your stomachs are craving some food..." Kakashi said, after hearing their growling stomachs.
"Oh yeah, by the way... Well! There isn't any reason for you guys to return to the academy." Kakashi said, surprising them.
"Then... Does that mean the three of us..." Sakura trailed off in excitement.
"That's right. The three of you... must quit your shinobi careers!" Kakashi exclaimed, shocking them.
"Tch! Why!?" Sasuke questioned, while attempting, but struggling to maintain his cool.
"That's because you're kids who don't understand or have the qualifications to become shinobi." Kakashi told them.
"What do you mean?" Naruto spoke up.
A sigh came from the jonin. "Why do you guys think that you're doing this exercise in teams?" he questioned them.
The three thought carefully. Sakura couldn't figure it out. Sasuke was still attempting to understand why they failed. But Naruto, he was thinking back to everything that Kakashi had said in the instructions of the exercise.
The widened eyes of Naruto, told Kakashi that he figured it out.
"It seems that one of you figured it out." Kakashi said, surprising Sakura and Sasuke who looked over at Naruto.
The white haired boy looked at Kakashi for permission to speak, who nodded.
"If I'm not mistaken... The answer would be teamwork, isn't it?" Naruto questioned.
"And why would you think that?" Kakashi asked.
"If this is an exercise as a team, then the purpose was for us to work together to fight you. After all, it's logical that no genin straight out of the academy would be capable of taking down a jonin. That's why there was only two bells, to make us work alone." Naruto explained.
"That's right. But despite this... you fools chose to work alone. Sakura! You were only concerned about Sasuke, and didn't care about finding Naruto. In addition you were caught in a simple genjutsu which you should have broken out of." Kakashi said to the pink haired girl.
"Sasuke! You ignored the both of your teammates and worked alone. While you definitely have individual skill, you must work together." Kakashi told him.
"Naruto! You're the same as Sasuke. But, at least you had a decent plan. It would have been better if you gotten your comrades involved in it." Kakashi scolded him.
"Individual actions that disrupt teamwork throw the team into crisis and lead to death." Kakashi told them.
A sigh came from the gray haired man, before he started to walk away. "I'll give you guys one more chance in an hour. Naruto, Sasuke, you two can eat lunch. However, you are not allowed to feed Sakura! I make the rules here, got it!?" Kakashi ordered them before flickering away.
A couple minutes later, Naruto and Sasuke were eating their lunch. They were then interrupted by the loud growling of Sakura's stomach.
"A-Ah. You can ignore me, I'm on a diet anyway-" Sakura said before it grumbled again, and she pouted.
The young Uchiha looked around the field closely, before looking at Naruto. "Do you sense anyone?" he asked.
In response, Naruto closed his eyes and placed two fingers on the ground, confusing Sakura.
"No. I don't sense anyone nearby." Naruto replied.
After hearing this, Sasuke then lifted his lunch at Sakura, shocking her.
"S-Sasuke-kun!?" she said in surprise.
"It would be bad if one of our teammates are weak from not eating once we fight sensei again." he told her.
The girl just looked in shock, before Naruto offered his lunch as well. The two boys then began to feed her.
Unknown to the three of them, not to far away was Kakashi who was adept at hiding his presence from Naruto's sensory ability.
'Did you just see that, Obito, Rin, Sensei?' Kakashi thought to himself, as he watched his his sharingan.
'I'll never forget you guys. But... I think I'm finally ready to move forward with some new comrades.' Kakashi told himself.
Now, deciding it was time to reveal himself, he covered his sharingan before appearing in front of his team shocking them.
"YOU THREE!" He exclaimed at them.
"...Pass." he finished, surprising them.
'Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura... I'm going to believe in you guys. And Obito, Rin, Sensei... I'll make a promise to you three. I'm going to continue to believe in my comrades and I swear that I'll never let them die!' Kakashi thought with determination.
"Yosh! That ends the survival exercise. You all pass. Team 7 will starts its first mission tomorrow!" Kakashi told them.

This is the first chapter that is finally on the og Naruto timeline.
The Graduation Genin Exercise with my own couple new additions.
I added a couple OC genin teams, that might make a couple appearances later on in this story. (That won't be for a while though)
I plan on making Kakashi stronger than what he was in canon. But I won't just suddenly increase his power, it'll increase over time in the story.
I also plan on having Kakashi train and treat his students with better training.
