It's been a couple weeks since Team 7 had completed their first C-Rank mission. During the mission they had also took a pretty step in their shinobi careers by having their first kills.
Each member of the team had their own feelings and reactions on it.
The Uchiha member of Team 7 didn't feel too comfortable with killing at first. But he then realized that if he wasn't resolved enough to be able to perform a kill, then he wouldn't be able to stand before Itachi and kill him.
The Pink haired girl of Team 7 was definitely no comfortable with killing. Even now, she didn't like the thought of killing someone. She knew it was her job as a shinobi to kill, but if she could prevent killing, she would do so.
The White haired Namikaze of Team 7 tried to ignore the feeling that he had with killing. Whenever he killed someone, it made him feel hollow inside, and he hated that feeling. But it wasn't as bad as the feeling he got when he used the Kyuubi's chakra. Ever since he first used it deliberately against Rigo, he's never once touched the chakra.
The first week back, the entire team rested up after their new experiences. The next couple weeks after that, they finally got back to light training and a couple D-Rank missions to add to their team record.
"Collaboration jutsu?" Naruto questioned his Uchiha training partner.
"Yeah. I was thinking that we combine jutsu together." Sasuke suggested.
The two genin's conversation was then interrupted by the sound of their female teammate's and sensei's footsteps.
"Sasuke-kun, Naruto, we are to go to the Hokage office." Sakura told them.
"Another mission?" Sasuke asked.
"A C-Rank this time." Kakashi told them, getting their attention.
A couple minutes later, at the Hokage tower office, they stood at the ready in front of Sandaime.
"Kakashi, what will you guys be doing today? Another D-Rank mission?" Hiruzen asked.
"No. I think that we're ready to continue with the C-Rank missions, Hokage-sama." Kakashi responded.
"Hmm, is that so. Then if that's the case, then I already have a client outside who requires some shinobi to be his bodyguards on his trek back to Nami no Kuni." Hiruzen told them, catching their attention.
"That mission will do fine, Hokage-sama." Kakashi said.
"Good, I'll introduce you. Tazuna-san, you may come in now." Hiruzen called out to the other side of the door.
The door slowly opened up, revealing an old man, though no quite as old as the Sandaime. He was around five-foot eight in height, and his previous black hair and beard was beginning to gray. The most noticeable trait of the man, was the bottle of alcohol in his hand, and the fact that he was so drunk that he had to lean against the door frame to stay up right.
"Huh? What's all this? I asked for shinobi, not just a bunch of squirts. I mean like seriously, the dark haired one has a duck butt. The girl has hot pink hair that is noticeable from a mile away. And the kid with the white hair looks as old as I am with that hair." Tazuna said.
The three genin of Team 7 struggled not to kill their client on the spot, but they knew that wouldn't do.
A hiccup came from the man as he took another swig of his beverage. "I'm Tazuna, super veteran bridge builder. You'll be risking your life and your limbs to guard me to the max until I return to my land and complete my bridge!" he exclaimed.
His words brought upon suspicion from the team.
'Risking our lives?' Naruto questioned the old man's statement.
"Alright then, let's get moving." Kakashi told the team, as they made their way to Nami no Kuni.
It's been a couple hours since they met their client and were assigned the new C-Rank mission. Currently, Kakashi and Team 7 were making their way down a dirt road/path. Client in town they were in route to Nami no Kuni. Tazuna the bridge builder had requested a R-Rank escort mission back to his home country, located to the south of Hi no Kuni, Nami no Kuni needed Tazuna to complete his bridge to increase trade opportunities.
Though, there seemed to something missing about the entire situation, which the entire team suspects, they just didn't know what.
Team 7 was walking in formation surrounding Tazuna. In the back, Kakashi was watching the rear, Sakura and Sasuke were on either sides of Tazuna to keep watch of any enemies from their sides. In the front, was Naruto who was using his sensory ability to watch in front of him.
As they were walking Naruto's body twitched slightly, which was caught by Kakashi.
'This chakra... There are two chakra signatures up ahead.' Naruto thought and signaled to Kakashi using hand signs.
Over the course of Team 7's assembly, Kakashi had taught them simple hand signs for signalling each other.
After receiving the message from his sensory student he quickly signalled to the Sakura and Sasuke as well, getting them prepared.
Not too much later of a walk, they all looked ahead discreetly, and saw a puddle on the side of the road.
'It hasn't rained in days, there shouldn't be a puddle this one.' was the thought of the team, while Tazuna remained obliviously.
'Get ready.' Kakashi signalled to them, getting barely noticeable nods in response.
The group eventually passed by the puddle and continued walking, as to not raise suspicion from whoever their enemy was. The puddle then began to bend upwards, and two figures slowly found themselves outside of the puddle.
The two figures were around five-foot seven in height with shoulder length brown hair. They were wearing outfits that consisted of face masks and brown and black camo shirts and pants with both of them having a single clawed gauntlet.
They immediately blitzed Kakashi, wrapping him up in their spiked chain, before shredding his body into pieces.
"One down." the two said darkly.
The three genin were prepared, as they had already saw their sensei use Kawarimi no jutsu.
"Doton: Doryuuheki!" Sakura called out, and placed her hands on the ground, which then erected an earth barrier which encircled herself and Tazuna, to make sure they would be defended from any attacks.
The two brothers quickly appeared behind Naruto who easily read their attack and ducked under a clawed swipe from one of them, before he flipped around on his hands, before delivering a kick to the abdomen to one of them, knocking them back slightly.
A shuriken was quickly sent by Sasuke, which connected with the two brothers chain, hitting against the tree. Quickly, to make sure that they didn't get free, Sasuke threw a kunai to pin the shuriken and chain.
After the two were immobilized, Naruto landed with his hands on their clawed gauntlet arms before sending two kicks to both of their faces, knocking them backwards. While falling back, they recoiled from being connected to each other via the chain, before they disconnected the chains from their gauntlets.
The two brothers then ran separate from each other. The first one began to run at the earth dome which Sakura created, in attempt to most likely take out the bridge builder. Sasuke saw this and quickly reacted and chased after him.
The second brother seeing the Uchiha chase after his brother, attempted to attack him using his gauntlet, which was suddenly blocked by Naruto who used his tanto to deflect the blow. The cloaked nin attempted another swipe which Naruto ducked under and quickly sliced the man's gauntlet covered arm off from the bicep down, making his scream in pain as he held his right stump where his arm used to be.
The Namikaze quickly took advantage of his successful attack before he launched a roundhouse kick at the man's head, sending him far backwards into a tree, knocking him out. Naruto then looked over to Sasuke's fight.
While chasing the other brother, Sasuke quickly used a burst of chakra from his feet to blitz past the man, and flipped around, planted his feet on Sakura's earth barrier before propelling himself off at the man instantly knocking him out with a hard blow the head.
A sound of the air shifting, brought Naruto and Sasuke's attention to their sensei who flickered into the clearing next to them.
"Good job, you two. I'm impressed with how you dealt with the enemy." Kakashi complimented them, before he turned over to the earth barrier.
"Sakura, you can bring down the barrier now, we're all fine." Kakashi told the girl, who released her jutsu, revealing herself and the bridge builder.
"You did good too Sakura. You prioritized the safety of our client." Kakashi said with an eye-smile, making her smile back.
The jonin then adopted a serious look before he looked over at Tazuna, who began to sweat at his stare.
"There is something we need to talk about." Kakashi told him.
"W-What might that be...?" Tazuna questioned uneasily.
The jonin didn't answer him, as he walked over to the two men who attacked them and tied them up to a tree.
"Chunin from Kirigakure no sato. These guys are shinobi who are known for continuing to fight no matter the sacrifice." Kakashi said.
"H-How did you know of us...?" one of the brothers questioned, while the other was still unconscious due to his lost arm and blood loss.
"It's a bad genjutsu disguise to use a puddle when it hasn't rained in days." Kakashi said.
"If you knew that, why did you leave the fighting to the squirts?" Tazuna questioned the jonin.
"I needed to make sure that they weren't after myself... Or if they were after you." Kakashi told him.
The bridge builder began to sweat nervously.
"The content of the request was supposed to just be protection from gangs, thieves, and the like... But, with Chunin ranked shinobi being involved in this mission with their target being you, this mission is now a B-Rank mission or higher. We were simply supposed to guard you until the bridge is complete. But if we already have enemies like these this early on, next will be jonin shinobi." Kakashi explained.
"Kakashi-sensei, I know that we have grown stronger lately, but jonin shinobi is a bit early for us don't you think?" Sakura questioned.
"B-But! You see there's a good reason for this..." Tazuna spoke up frantically, getting their attention.
"You see, Nami no Kuni has been terrorized by the Gato corporation for years, and because of this we don't have enough money to pay for a mission that would be ranked at B-Rank or higher." Tazuna explained.
There was silence as they all were thinking of what to do next.
"Hmm, I wonder what you two think?" Kakashi questioned his two male students.
"I think we should help the old man. Isn't it Konoha's belief to complete their missions once they accept them?" Sasuke said.
"I see, then how about you, Naruto?" Kakashi asked.
"I am not going to go back on my shinobi way, and abandon my mission, no matter what." Naruto said.
This statement made Kakashi narrow his eye at Naruto. 'I hope that you'll learn that the mission doesn't always take top priority.' Kakashi thought.
"Alright then, I guess we'll continue. Right, Sakura?" Kakashi said, getting a smile and nod from the girl.
The team then got back into their previous formation and continued their way to Nami no Kuni.
A far while away from Team 7's encounter with the brothers from the mist, there was a hideout in Nami no Kuni. This hideout base was being occupied by the Gato corporation and his goons and hired shinobi.
"WHAT!? You failed!? How!?" the sound of yelling came from the base, from a man of 4'8 in height.
"I paid a lot of money for you guys because you guys said that you were hot-shot shinobi!" Gato yelled.
The man he was yelling at was sitting on a couch lounging.
The man was about six-foot in height and was wearing bandages wrapped around his neck and lower part of his face. He had his Kirigakure headband tied sideways on his head, and was wearing grey striped pants with no shirt. He had shinobi sandals covered by a brown and white camo pattern, as well as arm sleeve warmers with the same pattern. The most noticeable trait was the massive sword that he held onto, that was practically as big as him.
"Stop your annoying grumbling..." the man said before pointing his large sword at the midget man.
"Next time, I'll go myself and kill him this sword... Kubikiribocho!" he told the small man with a gravelly sounding voice.
"A-Are you sure? It seems that the enemy hired some good shinobi... On top of that, they stopped the Demon brothers." Gato said.
"Just who do you think you're talking to, huh?!" the shinobi responded in annoyance.
"I am the one who is called the Kirigakure no Kijin... I am Momochi Zabuza!" the man now known as Zabuza declared.
It's been a couple hours since Team 7's first encounter with enemy shinobi. They agreed as a group to continue on with the mission. Since then they met up with a man who helps Tazuna, who brought them into Nami no Kuni on a boat, and on the way they saw the massive bridge that Tazuna was building.
They were now continuing on another path, now fully in Nami no Kuni, on the way to Tazuna's place.
The rest of the walk was rather quiet, as they were all on edge after the previous encounter.
Suddenly, both Naruto and Kakashi sensed something to the bushes to their left, and in response Naruto launched a kunai into the bush, surprising all of them except for Kakashi who narrowed his eyes.
Not one to doubt Naruto's sensing skills they investigated, and found out it was just a bunny.
"E-Eh, it was just a bunny, Naruto." Sakura said with a the tone of a older sister scolding a sibling.
The bridge builder sighed, while Sasuke saw Kakashi narrow his eye at the bunny.
'That's a snow rabbit. But that doesn't explain why it's fur color is white. The coat usually only turns white during the winter when there is less sunlight. Then that must mean it's been raised indoors without sunlight to be used as a substitution.' Kakashi analyzed the situation and was now on guard.
Up in the trees not too far away. 'That shinobi... No doubt about it, it's him.' Zabuza thought.
The eye of Kakashi widened as he sensed an attack, and looked over to his team and saw Naruto sensed the same.
"Everyone, get down!" the two of them called out as they dropped to the floor just in time to dodge a massive sword fly through the air before being lodged into the trunk of tree, then a man flickered onto the handle and glared down at them.
They all got up from the ground, and Kakashi got in between the distance from the man and his genin.
'If I'm not mistaken, that man is...' Kakashi thought as he recognized the man.
"Mah, Mah. If it isn't the Kirigakure no nukenin, Momochi Zabuza-kun." Kakashi said in a nonchalant tone.
The two male genin tensed, ready for a fight before Kakashi's raised hand, halted them.
"You guys are in the way, back off. This guy is on a totally different level from the guys earlier." Kakashi told them seriously, making them back down.
'With him as my opponent, that means...' Kakashi began his thoughts, as he reached up to his headband, confusing his students. '...I'll have to become a bit more serious against him.' Kakashi finished his thought.
"I assume you are Sharingan no Kakashi." Zabuza assumed.
This statement got reaction from the boys.
'Sharingan!? How does sensei have my clan's eye?!' Sasuke thought with wide eyes.
'That's the same kekkei genkai as Sasuke. How does sensei have it?' Naruto questioned.
"Sorry, but... I'll have you hand over the old man." Zabuza told them.
"You three, get into manji formation and protect Tazuna-san." Kakashi ordered them, as they then draw their weapons and surrounded Tazuna.
The nukenin on the handle of his sword narrowed his eyes as he saw Kakashi fully lift his headband, revealing his scarred eye.
The gray haired jonin then opened his eye, showing off his three-tomoe sharingan. "You're opponent... is me." Kakashi told him, glaring his mismatched eyes.
'It's true after all... He does have the Sharingan.' Sasuke thought in shock.
"I never expected to see the rumored Sharingan this soon... When I was in the ANBU of Kirigakure, search information about you was in the Bingo Book I would carry with me. There was also something else... About a man who has copied over one thousand skills... Kopi Ninja no Hatake Kakashi." Zabuza said, glaring down at Kakashi glared right back.
"Let's end the talking." Zabuza said before he pulled his sword out from the tree and landed on the water in front of them.
"Kirigakure no jutsu." the man called out, creating a heavy mist which covered the clearing.
There was silence in the air, before suddenly a large mass of killing intent spread across the clearing, weighing down on the genin.
'W-What killing intent! It's even more than Rigo's!' Naruto thought with wide eyes.
The pink haired girl couldn't even speak.
'This is jonin level killing intent! I can't handle it! I'd rather kill myself right here!' Sasuke thought in horror as he held his tanto at himself.
Suddenly a blast of chakra from Kakashi cleared the mist, and blocked the killing intent.
"You guys, calm down. I'll protect you with my life. I will never allow my comrades to get killed." Kakashi said seriously with an eye-smile.
This statement calmed the genin down, before they felt it.
"Are you sure about that?" Zabuza questioned, standing in between the genin and the bridge builder with his sword at the ready, shocking them.
Even though the genin were caught off guard, Kakashi was prepared. He instantly blitzed over to them and sliced his kunai through Zabuza. The sound of liquid coming from the wound, made him aware it was a water clone which fell apart, as another Zabuza appeared behind Kakashi.
The new Zabuza swung his sword at Kakashi, slicing him in half. The body then turned into water as well, shocking the nukenin.
'He copied my Mizu Bunshin in that short moment!?' Zabuza thought in shock.
The real Kakashi readied his kunai against Zabuza's neck.
"It's over." Kakashi told him.
A chuckle came from the mist nin. "I'm not a fool." another voice of Zabuza came from behind Kakashi, surprising him.
He swung his massive sword once again, which Kakashi ducked under, but was then caught by a kick which sent him flying towards the lake. Kakashi saw the water and prepared to use chakra stand on the water, but instantly sank.
'W-What? This water is heavy...' Kakashi thought in confusion.
A splash of water behind him, made him aware of Zabuza behind him, who went through hand signs.
"Suiton: Suiro no jutsu!" Zabuza exclaimed and formed a water orb prison from his hand which encased Kakashi.
'D-Damn it! I let my guard down!' Kakashi thought in frustration.
During this fight, the three genin and the bridge builder watched in shock of the skills of both jonin.
A chuckle came from Zabuza. "I'll deal with you Kakashi, later. First I'll get rid of theses guys." he said, glaring at the genin.
"Mizu Bunshin no jutsu!" Zabuza called out, and a water clone then formed out of the water from the lake and stared down the genin.
"You three! Escape now with Tazuna-san! As long as he has me in this jutsu, he can't run after you!" Kakashi called out.
The bridge builder was shaking in fear, and saw that the pink haired girl was as well but she still stood in defense of him. He looked further ahead and saw that both Naruto and Sasuke had their tanto at the ready as well.
'Once you got captured, that option was gone.' Sasuke thought.
'Even if we did run, his clone would still take us out. All of our options that include running, result in death.' Naruto thought.
The white haired genin turned to Sasuke and nodded, getting him to nod back as he activated his Sharingan.
"Oh... Another Sharingan. You must be that last survivor of the Uchiha clan." Zabuza commented, making Sasuke glare at him.
There was no movement, Sasuke started running at high-speeds to the side, getting Zabuza's attention. Though his attention was then brought back to Naruto who threw multiple shuriken at him, and went through hand signs.
"Ninpou: Shuriken Kage Bunshin no jutsu!" Naruto called out, making his shuriken multiply.
In response of the attack, Zabuza lifted his Kubikiribocho to block the shuriken. He then felt the presence of the other boy behind and saw Sasuke running at him with his tanto. Zabuza then turned and swung his sword horizontally at the boy who jumped over it and landed on the blade before jumping into a flip over the man and swung his tanto, which Zabuza still blocked with his sword, before knocking Sasuke back.
He then felt the charge of chakra from Naruto and looked over and saw him with a large blue lightning in his hand.
"Raiton: Raishinsen!" Naruto called out and threw his strongest jutsu at the man who jumped upwards into the air, avoiding the jutsu.
The man chuckled at the attempt, before he looked upwards and saw Sasuke even higher than him, going through hand signs.
"Katon: Goukakyuu no jutsu!" Sasuke called out and released a large fireball from his mouth down at Zabuza.
'Damn it! Since I'm mid-air I can't dodge. Even if I block it with my sword, I'm a water clone and I'll still be dispelled.' Zabuza thought.
The fireball eventually hit the clone, dispelling him back into water. Eventually Sasuke landed back down to the ground nearby Naruto.
"Hmm. They're not half bad." Zabuza thought as he prepared to make another water clone.
Both genin saw this and quickly rushed into the final half of their plan.
"Suiton: Mizurappa!" Naruto exclaimed and released a thrust of water from his mouth.
"Katon: Ryuuka no jutsu!" Sasuke exclaimed at the same time, as his fire jutsu collided with Naruto's water jutsu, creating a makeshift mist.
Zabuza narrowed his eyes at the mist before he demon windmill shuriken came flying through the mist at him.
"It's futile." Zabuza said with a smirk as he caught the shuriken with his free hand.
Suddenly his eyes, widened as another shuriken appeared from the other's shadow, and continued it's way towards Zabuza.
'T-This is... Kage Shuriken no jutsu.' Zabuza thought before he simply jumped over the shuriken.
Unexpected to everyone except Sasuke, the shuriken the transformed into Naruto who through multiple shuriken at Zabuza who looked at him with wide eyes in shock, as he was then forced to release the water prison jutsu on Kakashi.
The mist nin then used the windmill shuriken he had in his hand and slashed at Naruto, who quickly replaced with a log, which got cut in half.
"Tch! Kawarimi no jutsu!" Zabuza said in annoyance.
The hand which held the shuriken was suddenly kicked, knocking it out of his hands. Zabuza then looked over and glared into Kakashi's cold eyes which glared back at him.
The sound of ruffling, came with Naruto coming out of the forest, after substituting. He then stood over next to Sasuke who smirked at him. The two of them then bumped fists as their plan was a success, freeing Kakashi from Zabuza's jutsu.
"Naruto, Sasuke. Your strategy was outstanding. Good teamwork, both of you." Kakashi said with pride.
The two jonin level shinobi then continued to glare down each other. Suddenly the two of them jumped back from each other and both landed on the water from the lake. Zabuza then began to go through hand signs, which Kakashi saw with his sharingan and began to copy him.
"Suiton: Suiryuudan no jutsu!" The both of them called out simultaneously, which created two massive sized water dragons which had glowing yellow eyes as they began to dance around each other before colliding, creating a rain of water.
The two jonin then rushed at each and clashed weapons, they then began a test of strength as they push against each other. They then pushed off of each other before looking at each other, and whatever move that Zabuza made, Kakashi copied him at the same time.
"Suiton: Daibakufu no jutsu!" Kakashi called out shocking Zabuza.
'W-What?! That was the jutsu I was just about to use!' Zabuza thought in confusion.
Before he knew it, the massive water vortex collided with his body, sending him far across the lake and into a tree. Before he was even able to move, multiple kunai pierced his limbs. Kakashi then appeared on the branch above him with a kunai ready.
"C-Can you see the future?" Zabuza questioned.
"Yeah. Your future is death." Kakashi told him, and was about to finish him off.
Surprising everyone, suddenly a couple senbon pierced Zabuza's neck, making him collapse to the ground instantly. The genin and the bridge builder were surprised as well. They all then looked up at the tree where the senbon came from.
The newcomer was dressed in a long sleeve brown striped shirt, and hakama style pants. They were also wearing a blue haori which was held together at the waist by a brown sash. They were were geta sandals. They were also wearing a blank white ANBU mask which had a red wave pattern. The person themselves was around five-foot two in height and had long black hair which was styled in a bun with two framing bangs.
"You're right, he's dead." they said in a feminine voice.
The others all came up to Kakashi as they watched him kneel down next to Zabuza and check his pulse.
"There's no doubt about it, he's dead." Kakashi said, after confirming no pulse.
"I thank you. I have been waiting for the chance to kill Zabuza." the feminine ANBU said.
"By the looks of it, you're a tracker nin from Kirigakure no sato." Kakashi assumed, getting nod in response.
'From the looks of height and voice, I suspect that she's probably the same age as my genin.' Kakashi thought with suspicion.
The tracker nin then flickeredf from their branch and landed on the ground next to Zabuza's body. They then grabbed the arm of Zabuza and put it over their shoulder before flickering away once more.
A sigh came from Kakashi who then covered his Sharingan, which he knew Sasuke was going to ask about sooner or later.
"Tazuna-san, is your house nearby?" Kakashi asked, getting a nod from the bridge builder.
They then began to follow the older man, before Kakashi stumbled before his balance was caught by Naruto.
"Sensei, are you all right?" Sakura asked in worry.
"Yeah... I'm fine." Kakashi said and stood back up on his own, as they then continued to Tazuna's home.
'If I didn't train to increase my chakra reserves, I probably would have passed out from using my Sharingan. I guess I'm glad that I've been increasing my training once again.' Kakashi thought to himself.
AUTHOR'S NOTES:
This is part 1 of the Land of Waves arc.
There are some changes so far, but the bigger changes occur next chapter.
I am going to have Haku be a girl, because I just can't see their character as a boy, I'm sorry if you find that weird, if you don't like it... then too bad.
As you see, Kakashi was able to handle his sharingan better than canon, due to his off-screen training.
